It had been several days now since Emiko had met that strange mare. Love, forgiveness... it was like a different language to Emiko. Worse than not understanding what Tequila had said... Emiko wanted to understand. She went against the terms of her punishment and wanted to know more of Tequila's sinful words. Especially... one in particular. You are too pretty to be upset. Emiko's face flushed deep red and she stopped her trek mid stride. Unfortunately, momentum kept her going, and since her foot was not on the ground yet, she stumbled forward a few steps, eventually righting herself after a bit of flailing and squeaking. She sighed, head hanging. What was Emiko thinking? Was she some glutton for punishments? The Gods knew what she was thinking, and if they caught sight of any sinful thoughts she'd have to repent twice as much. She didn't think her soul could take that.
Finally she arrived at her father's home only to find it empty. Of course it was, having her father where he belonged would be too easy. Easy is for the good Soquili. She trudged over to the banks of the river and sat lazily, looking into its reflective surface. In the current light, is was very easy to see Emiko's reflection in the water. She leaned forward, trying to find some hint of improvement. There was none. Just the same shadows under her eyes from sleepless nights, the same too thin cheeks from fasting, the same frightened eyes. Pretty... right. She sighed, unable to handle her appearance at that moment. A sudden thought struck Emiko. If she couldn't even face her reflection, what would her father think? She drew in a sharp breath and cast her eyes towards the ground. She would not deserve his pity... Emiko stood, suddenly not too keen on seeing her father.

Tequila wasn't sure why the mare had been so hard on herself. Everyone made mistakes and though they couldn't always be fixed, there were none that couldn't be made better. Teq's eyes had followed the mare as she had headed off.

Tequila struggled with herself, she didn't know if she should leave the mare alone or continue to try to comfort her. She sighed, she just couldn't let the mare go on like she was. She really was much to beautiful to look so sad. Perhaps Teq could cheer her up for a bit if nothing else.

Slowly Teq turned to take after the mare, hopefully it wouldn't take too long to catch up to her.

Emiko looked at the ground as she walked, something she'd taken to doing recently. She wasn't sure why, perhaps it was another aspect of the humility she was to practice while she was repenting. Still, she let her head hang, which made the muscles in her neck ache. Your pain will lead you to redemption, she kept reminding herself. Little clumps of dirt scattered as she dragged her hooves along the ground. No doubt that an outsider would see her as a pitiful creature. This was because she truly was. Emiko even pitied herself most of the time. When she was finished with her punishment, when her life went back to normal, Emiko would teach everyone that nothing, no vengeance nor pleasure, was worth this kind of torment.
Finally Emiko's neck could take no more of the extreme angle she held it at. With a creak of stiff muscles she lifted it, looking around at her surroundings with a wide-eyed stare. Of course the first thing she saw was bright green. Out in the open Emiko was certain Tequila had already seen her. Still, there was no reason she couldn't try and hide. Quickly she looked around, trying to find some shelter. There was only grass, perhaps tall enough to barely cover her. And she she dove, concealing herself poorly in the dying grass below her, hoping that Tequila would just give up and go home

Tequila saw Emiko as she moved quickly, almost seeming to dive into the tall grass. She cocked her head to one side, surely the mare knew that the green grass would not cover her dark colored coat. Shrugging it off, she took back to making her way towards Emiko.

"Emiko?" she called out in a soft voice towards the mare, "Emiko, it's Tequila...." she wanted to present herself in case Emiko might have thought she was someone else?

"I, I'd like to talk some more"

"E... Emiko has nothing else to say," Emiko squeaked from her belly, covering her nose with her hooves. So Tequila wasn't going to give it up. Why? Frantically she tried to shimmy away, unaware that the grass swaying as she moved gave her away. "And she has heard enough of your lies. Emiko cannot afford to hear such sinful speak." A thistle stunk in her elbow and she jumped up squealing. Her eyes watered as an itchy pain attacked the joint. "Curse Emiko's misfortune! Has she really so sinned that thistles have turned on her?" She leaned down and plucked it out, sniffling. "See what happens when Emiko does not repent correctly? Bad things happen to her.

Lies? Tequila's head shot up.

"But I have told you no lies, Emiko." she watched as the grass moved, then Emiko suddenly jumping up once stuck. Without thinking Tequila moved closer to the other mare looking at her elbow and area to make sure there weren't more thorns stuck to her. "Careful now, steady...."

"Okay, you got it." she was a bit ADD, she had trouble concentrating, even when she really tried. She took a step back and looked to Emiko.

"You don't have to talk then, just.... Lay down." she wanted the mare to calm down, to think about things. "You need to rest," she had seen the circles under the mares eyes. If nothing else, she needed sleep.

"No," Emiko urged with tears in her eyes. "Villain, that's what you are. Villain! You want Emiko to remain cursed! Did you know this stallion! Is this is another vengeance he is exacting? Why, haven't I suffered enough? Go and tell him that Emiko is two breaths from death and still hasn't been redeemed!" It was all the energy her malnourished body could take at that moment. She was forced to her knees, breathing hard and fast. "Two breaths," he gasped again, neck unable to keep her head up, laying limp on the ground. "You want my last two breaths, don't you? Emiko will give them to you. Perhaps... perhaps that is her penance. As Emiko took the life of that stallion, so the Gods must have hers."

She watched as the fragile mare fell to her knees. Tequila moved in trying to comfort her fall. "Dear, Emiko...." her voice was soft. "You need rest...You need strength,"

She laid down next to the mare, using her own body to help hold up Emiko's body. "Lay your head down, sweet girl...." She tried to coax the female to rest. She would watch over her while she was sleeping, leaving only to gather her food and water.

"You need not fret right now,"

Tequila was warm. Far too warm to be this close to Emiko. It wasn't even just where Tequila touched Emiko. It radiated from those points in frighteningly gentle undulations over her whole body. Sin, it's a sin. She kept repeating that mantra, over and over, trying to will herself to rise to her feet and leave. She had to. She didn't think she could take the weight of another sin. Her penance was already threatening to break her. It's a sin, a sin! Is it? It was a very strange thought. The voice that usually shrieked at her to avoid the bad was suddenly drowned out by a considerably more quiet, more gentle whisper. Is it? Is it a sin to be kind, after all that was all Tequila was doing. Besides, it seems to be more of a sin to reject such kindness.
Emiko felt sleepy, and all too warm. With a speed that, perhaps should have frightened her, the warmth from Tequila's body had created a heat that settled over Emiko like a blanket. It's a sin, get out. Hush you. Her head hit the ground, neck almost sighing with relief, no longer asked to hold it up. Sinner. Liar. After all, she did come after Emiko after she ran in fear. She was checking up on Emiko to make sure she was alright. How can such kindness be bad? Further more... how can something that feels this good be a sin? Emiko turned her sleepy head towards Tequila and watched her for a moment. Will you destroy me? It was a last thought before sleep overtook her body.
