 Amarante stood next to a tree. She had been here a long time. She wasn't so sure what to do...she saw two paths ahead one looked dark and scary and the other one nice and clear.
Amarante was afraid of adventure, she was delicate and thought that she could break. She just wanted to be careful. The nice path looked good, but what if that was deceiving? What is the darker path actually was the better path? Amarante shifted her weight from one side to the other in thought.

 Helushka had been spending his day exploring. He was one to get to know the land, understand it. You never know when having to get somewhere quickly how lost you can get if you don't know the land. New to this area, he made sure to travel around it and learn about it. Who lived near by, potential dangers, etc. Although not one to go looking for danger, Helushka was a warrior at heart. Brave and strong. Sometimes bored caused you to do reckless things. He had scars to prove it.
But this day proved to be interesting. A light breeze picked up and raising his muzzle to the sky a lovely scent filled his nostrills. A mare was nearby and she seemed to be in trouble in some form. Picking up his feet, Helushka trotted off his original path and towards the mare.
He slowed down upon sighting her. She sure was lovely. One of his kind too! He snorted in delight and trotted to her. "Goodday," he called to her. She stood by a tree that sat next to a fork in the path. Boy, looking at those paths he'd stand there for a good few minutes figuring out which way would make his day.
"Having trouble trying to pick a path?" he asked, stopping next to her. "A dilema if I must say so myself. If your feeling particularly adventurous...try the darker path. You can always turn back and take the other if it proves too dull." He grinned.

Amarante nodded at the stallion as he came up to here. "Hello." She then looked at the two paths and then back at him. "Adventurous?" She was never described as such. "Adventures are dangerous." She peered at him, "What if the other path is just a dangerous?" She wasn't big on danger, in fact she avoided it at all costs.

He chuckled. "If they wheren't they wouldn't be any fun!" he chided her gently, a small smile gracing his scarred muzzle. He eyed her and then glanced back towards the more clear and light path. He studied it for a moment. After a moment he said, "If it proves dangerous, then it would be a rather pleasent surpise indeed." He grinned and took a step forward and tossed his head back to look at her. "Take this path...I will go with you. I can deal with any danger you might face."

How can danger be fun? She didn't understand this at all. Danger could get her hurt or...killed. How was that any fun at all? She then nodded, "Ok, I will go with you." She felt a bit safer with him by her side. It couldn't be as dangerous with him there.

Helushka was thrilled that she took him up on his offer to escort her through one of the paths. She was quite lovely and seemed very feminine. He liked those traits in a female among many others. He grinned at her, tossing his head back, "I am Helushka. I'm sorry for not introducing myself sooner."
He walked with a boldness in his step and held his head high with confidence. Brave. That's what he was and why he considered danger fun. He knew he could handle it.

"I;m Amarante, I'm please to meet you." Amarante knew to be [polite at all time. She looked over at him as she walked next to him. He seemed so very brave and sure of himself, how did one become this why,
"Aren't you afraid of what might be out there?" She asked with a look that searched his face.

"That's a lovely name," he said while taking in the surroundings. He was alert to every sound and smell as the eyes are sometimes not the best of senses. His ears flicked before he answered Amarante's question.
"Sometimes I'm afraid. But I was raised...groomed...to be a warrior. To defend the herd. To face my fears. I know that as long as I have confidence in myself and my abilities I will be fine. And it is also good to be able to take in your situation and know if you can handle it or not. If anything...run. Run as fast and hard as you can. Never look back."

That seemed like senisble advice. Fiight or run. "You were raised to be a warrior, what was that like?" She asked as she tortted beside him.
Amarante didn't remember much of how she was raised. She just knew that the world was a very dangerous place and she needed to be on constant alert. She knew to stick to familiar places, that was why this trip seemed so scary...but it wasn't so scary with him near.

He smiled at her just as they broke out from under the trees. The sunlight was warm and bright and made his eyes seem all the more blue.
"It was hard and never easy. When I was old enough to eat grass my father started teaching me and having me build my endurance and strength. He taught me good values and morals that a warrior should know. Things like, protect the herd at all costs, be truthful and so on.
In my early years what helped me get through it all was when I came home to my mother. She was a gentle soul and kind. It created balance in my life.
But enough about me. Tell me about you, Amarante."
Helushka glanced at her just before stepping over a log. He turned back to make sure she made it over the log too while keeping a keen eye and ear about their surroundings.

Amarante listened to the story and smiled. It seemed rather nice. She looked down to step over the log and hoped nothing popped out of it. "Oh, I don't remember much of my childhood..." She was about to go on when she saw a dark shape in front of them "What's that?" She whispered as she stood stock-stillA creature came into view. The weird thing about this creature was it's coat; it resembled Amarante's in a way.  "Well, hello!" He said, not really thinking that his popping up on the trail would cause any problems what-so-ever.

Helushka's head whipped around, his eyes locking onto the creature who appeared. He could sense Amarante's fear. Well he would make sure that she is safe. Helushka's ears laid flat and he lowered his head and swayed it side to side so that the creature could see its opponent.
He snorted and made a false charge at the creature before backing up. Helushka stamped his hoof waiting to see how the creature would respond to his display.

"Whoa, whoa!" The little lion said as the male soq made a threatening display.
Amarante backed up and watched the two. She wasn't sure what was going to happen. She was scared for both Heluska and the lion. She turned her head not wanting to see what would happen next.
"It's ok, I'm not going to hurt you.." The lion said as he lay flat to the ground, trying to look as non-threatening as possible.

If there was one Helushka was not, it was being a "brainless show off jock". He was able to see reason and recognize true threat from a misunderstanding. He raised his head and looked upon the lion. It was in a submissive pose. If he remembered correctly, that wasn't something common among their kind.
He visibly relaxed and turned his head to look at Amarante. "It appears this is no dangerous creature. And he looks like you..." At this, he looked back at the lion with a head tilt. To the lion he said, "Who are you?"

Amarante opened her eyes and finally gave the lion a good look over. He did indeed look like her, what was the meaning behind this? "Why do you look like me?" She questioned with an hint of fear in her eyes.
The lion stayed in his submissive pose and looked from one soq to the other, "I'm Courage. I'm here for you Amarante." He knew he was there to keep her company, not really how he knew, but he knew.
