Daniel Jackson holds the record on number of deaths in a series...to the point where the last time he 'died', they held off the service for two weeks...whereapon Daniel appeared again. I believe the current count is around 7 or 8, almost once a season.

Well, he was 'dead' for an entire season (with only two guest appearances). In show, he found out some things while he was ascended that made him want to return to being human.
Out of show, the people running the show realized they lost a huge fanbase when Michael Shanks quite so agreed to raise his salary and expand his character more if he'd just come back.
