It was a pleasant Autumn day, the chill wind of the coming winter was still in the air but the sky was almost clear with only a few puffs of white air and the sun was shining with a deceptive glow that would equal warmth in kinder months.
But it was still a nice day for the time of year so Taren had ventured out to the lake a few minutes away from his home.
Periwinkle slithered along beside him looking pleased with herself. Unfortunately his mother did not appreciated torn carpets and chewed on furniture. A fact that Wink did not seem to care about, and in fact seemed to relish twisting the screw of the women's nerves tighter and tighter.
Taren had therefore been forced to hurry out before frictions got to rough.
As they reached the lake Taren smiled gazing over the blue and dumped his bag off at the shore, shortly followed by his t-shirt and pants leaving him in boxers. It might be freezing but it appeared not to stop Taren from wanting to take a dip. "Come on Wink, I think its about time you learned to swim and its nice and sunny today so the waters not to bad."
Wink, looked frankly disgusted by the very suggestion. "Come on." Taren coaxed stepping back into the water. The Dragon moved back into a patch of sun and lay down. "Whats the matter? It's only swimming." the mole boy complained to his partner and just got a blank look which echoed something along the lines of 'you've got to be kidding' and a short snort to punctuate the point.

Miranda had accompanied her father to visit the lake but for the most part Valeri had come for reasons based on meeting a client there for a talk about something or another and look through pictures and thus it granted the rat-girl for just a little more freedom than usual, at least more than she was used to. The man had granted his daughter free reign just so long as she stayed within shouting distance of him so that when he called she would appear.
The rat-girl wandered a bit of a distance away wandering along the shoreline of the lake looking for interesting pebbles or something similar to pick up and add to some sort of arts and crafts thing she was working on when she heard a voice not too far away. Miranda paused and stared at the boy in his boxers and his dragon.
She raised an eyebrow while watching before she wandered a bit closer, "I'th'n't it cold?" Miranda asked curiously. It felt cold that's why she wore her light jacket and even allowed her hat to cover her ears a bit where she would usually let them through the specially made holes.

Both Taren and his dragon looked up as Miranda approached, hearing her kicking up peddles and other derbies as she walked. However seeing that the small slightly roundish figure walking towards them didn't look all that frightening the mole boy was able to hold back on his usual mild freak out.
Even if he tensed as she got closer, blinking rabidly as she spoke, what did she just say? It took a few moments for his brain to grasp the sentence again, pause and translate. He shrugged. "I...I guess so, b..but my fur helps keep me warm." he explained with a slight hesitant tone. Not many people knew moles were fairly good swimmers and the layer of fuzzy felt fur he bore acted as almost a wet suit.
Periwinkle meanwhile had lifted herself from her basking spot to slither closer to Miranda, it was rather alarming considering how snake like the dragon appeared. But she only put her head forward to sniff at Miranda quickly judging her a minimal threat, if she proved dangerous she could be eaten as well.
Taren eyed his dragon suspiciously knowing what she could be like when she thought she was protecting him, but relaxed as she did. "I..I'm Taren and th...this is pperiwinkle." he told her trying to quell the slightly nervous stammer.
