XXXIt has been over a week since Seymour had stayed in Imisus because of the Public Forums. The tall man could still feel the jitters from standing in front of the crowd and talking. It was not something he would normally have done, and he would prefer never doing such a presentation ever again. It was beyond nerve-wreaking! Seymour shook his head slightly, pushing the thought to the back of his mind. The presentation is in the past now, stop thinking about it. He let out a huff and stared at the road before him, partly covered by his bangs. Maybe he should get them trimmed? No, he would feel even more nervous if he could actually make eye contact…How long has it been since he had arrived here again? Oh yes! It has been over a week!

XXXHe should head home soon.

XXXBut first things first! Before a trip, he will need to get his supplies and where better to get supplies then from the market? This was the reason Seymour had ventured into the busy Imisus markets today. He needed supplies! He will need to pack food, possibly a few extra blankets, maybe he could shop ahead and bring back some new clothing. Do they sell things for winter or the cold in Imisus? Hopefully, Shyregoed is a rather cold place, even on the borders of Helios, the snow covers everything. There are those who travels from Imisus to Shyregoed right? So there must be stores here for such occasions...But where?

XXXLost in his thoughts, Seymour wasn't really paying attention to the road. He just kept wondering where he would eventually get all his supplies for his trip home to Shyregoed.

It was always best to start the say early, Shati thought. The market was buzzing before noon and started to die out by three or four, and the rich folk always sent their servants out as early as possible. She had packed her cart at five-thirty in the morning, and continued out shortly after in the cold. For now the woman was wrapped closely in a shawl and wearing stockings; the weather had taken on a distinctly cold tint, at least for her. She'd swear that the winters here were so much colder than those in Uque...

Either way, a girl had to make a living, and her wares were selling well. There were no baked goods today (oh, but she should have warmed the house with fire and come out late!), but just about everything else sat stacked neatly in her little cart: pears and raspberries in various forms and the season's last few pumpkins. She always payed attention to where she was going, it was the way of a mobile merchant, but others often did not.

There was a man traveling through the crowds: a big man with big muscles. He didn't appear to be paying any attention, none at all, and Shati couldn't think of anything to yell as he grew closer. She tried to wheel away, but the cart was heavy, so all she gave was a frantic "huh!" and held her arms out before he collided with the cart. A few pears shuddered but did not roll out, blocked by cans of preserves. Even after he had hit, all she managed was a little "enh...

XXX...Food, dried food possibly? Maybe he should get the food first and then get...

XXXCrash!

XXX Ouch! What did he run into?

XXXSeymour wheeled back and rubbed the bruise he would be seeing later that evening. He winced before brushing his bangs slightly to the side to see what he had collided into. Was that...? Oh man, he ran into a cart. He didn't knock anything over did he? He didn't run into anyone did he? He rushed over towards the cart and bit the inside of his cheek. Paling slightly at the incident he had caused. Seymour want over to the lady (whom he guessed was the owner) and apologized, "I wasn't paying attention...I didn't knock over anything did I? I'm sorry."

Now that the man had broken the ice, Shati was a little more comfortable with speaking. She made a thoughtful sound and peered into the cart again, double-checking unnecessarily.

"No, no, it's fine," she insisted, brushing her hands off for no good reason and letting the cart rest. It was then that she got a good look at the man, who had previously just been a threatening shape. He reminded Shati of the men back in Uque: tall, strong, dark hair and eyes. His ski was pale, of course, but the rest of him was comforting. Perhaps he'd like to strike up a conversation...?

"I'm Shati," she said, offering out a hand out to shake.

XXX"I-i'm Seymour." He replied, shuttering slightly, a little embarrassed with the earlier mishap still. He reached over and took a hold of Shati's hand, giving it a slight shake before letting go. In the depths of his mind, Seymour could still feel that sense of anxiety of being around people...even if it is only one single person. He swallowed dryly before letting out a nervous smile.

XXX"W-would you like me to help you with the cart?"

XXXIt was the least he could do. After all, it was he who had ran into the cart and almost knocked the poor woman over. And besides, they were in the middle of the road right now. They could carry their conversation else where and not in the middle of the path.

"Oh! Oh, no, thank you," Shati said, offering Seymour a smile. He could, in effect, leave her as she moved her cart out of the street, and then she'd be forced to just continue on her way. A disappointment, but not the worst thing in the world. To try and sway him to stay with her, she began to speak again.

"Where do you hail from, Seymour?" For all she knew he could come from down the street, but anything was better than nothing.

XXXSeymour nodded slightly in response. Giving the cart a slight glance, the man frowned, pondering rather Shati really didn't need his help. That cart was huge compared to her. What if she gets into another incident in which someone knocks the cart off balance? His thoughts were cut off as she heard her question his origins.

XXX"I came from Shyregoed... What about you Shati? Where did you come from?" He questioned in return, curious.

In truth, Shati was of strong stock. She had lived her young years working fields and smithing and continued on to this day. She pushed an pulled her cart around nearly every day, and she was used to it at even its most laden. Today was, in all honesty, a rather light day.

She lifted her head when she heard the region and parked her cart off to the side. Felicity had been from Shyregoed as well, but she had looked so much more frail and sickly. Perhaps the region was not to lame after all? After realizing that she must look a bit odd, standing there in quiet concentration, Shati laughed slightly and shook her head.

"I apologize. My mind is elsewhere," she defended lamely, "I am from Uque, specifically the northern portion. It's a whole vast sea away, I'm afraid."

XXX"Penny for your thought?" Seymour joked lightheartedly, sticking his hands into his pockets and gave the kiseru within it a slight brush. He was still feeling nervous. Possibly because he was in the presence of a woman? No, that's not possible, he grew up with...Never mind. He was sure it was just the fact he wasn't used to having long conversations. Especially with someone he had just met.

XXX"Not from Panymium then? My grandfather was from across the sea...but I have never seen any land aside from this one." he replied, feeling a smile creep onto his face as he remembered the stories his grandfather would tell him. Grandmother was from Yirui wasn't she?

Shati was more or less used to carrying on conversations with total strangers. Rich women liked to talk about their families and their wonderful husbands. The working class liked to complain about their jobs and the plague. Whatever it was, she had to listen and had to talk back for minutes and hours all day long. Actually choosing to talk to someone was almost a treat. She laughed at his joke, even though it wasn't very funny, and nodded.

"I moved here as a young woman and started a life here, Shati shrugged. She didn't like talking about herself in a way that would make people ask questions. Truly she was just the same as anyone else, perhaps just more well-traveled, "Travel is...very satisfying. Were it not for the farm I would be constantly moving.

Sometimes, just sometimes, she regretted her choice.
PostPosted: Thu Nov 11, 2010 5:33 pm

XXXIt was rare for him to even hear himself talk this much. Something good must be shining on him today. Maybe it was because Shati didn't seem fazed by his largeness? People tend to edge away from him for some reason. He didn't like that. Apparently his silence wasn't helpful in making him less scary or so he had heard.

XXX"Did you move here alone?" Seymour asked, curiosity getting a hold of him.

XXXA farm, Shati owns a farm. He has never seen a farm before. Where they like the ones his grandfather would tell him? The ones with a barn and field? Ones that would change colors through out the season because of the crops growing? Did wild birds live in the barn roofs? Seymour was very, very curious if what his grandfather told him was true. But if he asked...wouldn't it just be nosy? He doesn't like being nosy, it's not very respectful of a person's private life after all.

"I did," Shati smiled. The small questions were easy, especially if they began at travel. It was the stuff before that bothered her, like 'did you eat raw meat' and 'did you live in a teepee'. People had the wrong views of her people a lot of the time, although she couldn't blame them. How could you learn about a country barely anyone moved to Panymium from? Either way, their ignorance was often bothersome.

"My tribe was a very traditional one. For me to leave was..." she paused to inhale and shrug, and then laugh, "...strange, to say the least. My family accepted it well, but did not necessarily understand. I haven't spoken to them in years. I have a kind of...wanderlust, you call it? How about you? Why did you leave Shyregoed?"
PostPosted: Thu Nov 11, 2010 6:02 pm

XXX"Nothing wrong with being different." Seymour replied, keeping the kiseru in his pocket in the grasp of his hand. He seems to be drawing his confidence from it...subconsciously. At least it seems to be helping him feel less strange talking to Shati. It was...nice to be able to have such a long conversation for once, and not cut it off quickly.

XXX"I didn't really leave Shreygoed." He replied. With all the talking, he had almost forgotten that he was here to shop for his return trip. "I'm actually heading back home soon. I came here for the Imisus public forums to hopefully get the magistrates to fund the Council of Sciences for our research to find a cure for the black plague."

Shati had noticed the hand in Seymour's pocket, but hadn't thought much of it. People had little fetishes for luck or power, and she figured he had one of those rather than him doing something dirty.

"Aha! I see. So you're a member of the Council, then?" In honesty, Shati didn't think she'd ever met a Council member outright. Certainly she should know more than mages? It didn't appear that way, however.
