✬Moon-Viewing Festival✬

Location: The Field
Time: 11PM - 3AM

Why, it isn't called the Harvest Moon for nothing! In mid-Fall, just before the big Harvests, the moon is at it's fullest in the sky and glow of a faint orange. Folktales goes that this colour is because all of the fairies and the Goddess herself are out. Gather at night time to see this once in a year occurrence with your friends and family in the field, where the sky is the clearest!

Romane had arrived following after Cid, having waited by the door at the house for him to leave first despite being ready hours prior. She couldn't leave without him, of course! For one, they were meant to go there together and, as another point, she didn't want to walk alone. Sure, she could have brought Mauser or Korth or, better yet, both, but this was a friendship outing, meaning she was meant to go alone with Cid. Not with her animals. She hadn't managed to get any clothes outside of her uniform just yet, which suited her fine since it thankfully wasn't raining that day. Though, she left her hat behind if only because she wasn't technically an officer at the moment. Which.. surprisingly, suited her fine as well since she wanted to be a regular civilian that day. Just a civilian enjoying her time with a friend. That sounded very nice, didn't it? She sped up to stay as close behind him as possible without actually touching him when they came near the gathering. Out in the field meant trees and tall grass, which meant there were several hiding spots and being dark as it was, she couldn't spot any attackers before it was too late.

She bit her lip nervously and continued to jerkily survey the area, her eyes eventually landing on Cid. She looked down to where his arm was and frowned. Alright, she.. she didn't want to hold his arm, even if it would make her feel safer. Not at all – unless friends did that? She hadn't finished reading the book she had ordered on friendship, however, so she wasn't sure. It would be safest not to do it instead of doing it and making the monk feel awkward than regret befriending her a-and leaving her over something she shouldn't – ah. She should focus more on remaining safe. She shook her head lightly and went back to surveying the trees and people carefully. After they had entered the designated area, she spoke up, “The weather is.. pleasing for this time of year.” Speaking on the weather was the safest topic, correct? That was what she thought, anyway. Every conversation she had witnessed on television so far had begun with a comment on the weather in an airport. Unfortunately, there wasn't an airport – did that make this the wrong topic? She frowned. Damn it, she hoped not.

Oh, a topic on the weather. Yes it was safe for them to both speak of the weather without possibly bringing something up that might cause Romane to feel great sadness over her disappearance.. unless her disappearance was caused by a man who wished to control the weather and thus kidnapped her to prevent her from informing everyone of- no no.. that is silly.. someone who wishes to control weather could not possibly be bad. As who would honestly control weather to simply destroy things when you can help the farms by giving them rain, and keep everyone happy by giving them sunshine? "Ah, yes the weather is in decent condition for this sort of viewing to take place. As if it was raining or snowing by chance then there could be no moon viewing as the sky would be covered with clouds, but it is not so we should be glad of such." Stating the obvious.

Cid found a nice area to sit down at, setting his spade next to him. He sat down with his legs crossed and stared at the moon. It was veyr lovely really, all the other people seemed to have brought something to put on the floor before sitting, or even some lawn chairs.. but then you could not sit on the nice grass and experience a little of nature on your underside! Of course it was also rather moist, so it was probably why most people didn't just sit on the grass right now. Ah well, he can't un-sit now that he already sat on the wet grass now can he?

User Image Raiden needed to be social. He kinda hated it, but he needed to go do something. It was boring night at the house anyway. He only regretted leaving the house alone, he could have brought his sister. But, she said it was her turn to stay around the house, whatever that meant. He read the flier about going out with a friend, maybe he'd make one while he was there? Probably not, he knew damn sure he wasn't going to introduce himself openly. 'I should have had a ******** drink before coming here...' He thought, his hands shaking a little. He always did this. Super nervous, super ******** retarded. He absolutely hated new places, and a festival that seemed so smart when leaving the house, seemed so dumb right now.

Obvious, but at least Romane knew she hadn't made a mistake by asking that. Good, she was on her way in learning how to start and maintain a conversation! She watched him sit down and hurriedly followed suit beside him, instantly regretting that action. It was.. uncomfortably cold, but she could handle it. For friendship! She crossed her arms and looked up at the moon as this festival's main activity was intended to be that. ..Why would so many people gather to do only this..? It was rather dull. Ah, but, this was her first friendship outing – she needed to look as though she was enjoying it and receptive to conversation. Remember, S-O-F-T-E-N. She hadn't read through every one of those principles, but she did know that she had to smile or else she would appear disinterested. ..But, she was disinterested. This was a boring activity.

No, she wasn't going to ruin her friendship over something like this. So, remembering every step, she forced a smile, uncrossed her arms, leaned forward, and.. 'T' was for 'Touch', but what kind of physical contact did the book mean? Her smile dropped and she cursed herself for not finishing that book before. She had been torn that night on either staying up and reading it or getting a good night's rest so that she may be prepared to leave. Obviously, she had chosen the latter and assumed she would have time to read it during the day. But, most of it had been spent getting ready and pacing nervously about. ..What else had the book said..? Take the initiative, correct? She should do what felt to be the correct maneuver! She set her hand over his quickly before she could hesitate. That was a touch, correct? And she took the initiative! The author of 'How to Make Friends' would be proud! Next was eye contact, so she looked over at him in his eyes and nodded. Why did she nod? She wasn't sure, but she knew that that was what the book said to do..

Only problem was that she had no clue what to do now. Did she say something? “I am glad of such.” There, conversation procedure completed successfully! Cid wouldn't want to not be her friend now that she had proven herself to be an open, receptive – ah. She should lean, correct? She leaned towards him almost mechanically and stopped the moment their shoulder's touched. Now, how long was she to do these actions? She wasn't sure on that either. She didn't like that at all, but she was in a tight spot here! She had to do it or else she may have given Cid the incorrect signals.

Cid very much enjoyed seeing the moon, though many other people seemed to find it rather dull. The moon was a valuable part of Cid's life! With the light from the moon he has always been able to see at night, and seeing at night is an important part of surviving in the mountains. Just as the sun lit the sky in the day, the moon helped him at night~ Sadly there is no 'sun viewing' festival as that might hurt everyone's eyes greatly... How sad it must be for the sun, to know that all who wish to view it cannot as it caused their eyes pain!

He then felt something on his own hand. Oh a spider. Yes, a spider. It was rather clammy though, so an odd wet spider? He does not mind spiders, as they are creatures of equal importance to all others, he is not one to judge one's life on what type of animal they may be. Cid looked down at his hand to meet his new spider friend, and noticed Romane's on it. It appears he was mistaken assuming that it was a spider, it was only Romane's hand. Should he inform Romane that her hand seems rather clammy and odd as if that of a spider? No, Romane does not appear to look like she would be the kind to enjoy that interesting bit of trivia and instead find it to be a bad trait and thus no longer have her hand over his. Which was oddly nice.

The sudden eye contact made Cid's face feel oddly warm. A strange feeling he was not very used to. Almost as odd as that 'anger' feeling that he has only experienced once when a panda ate his bowel of rice after he spent the last week in a deep meditation to try to find himself. (Which if you want to know, really only made Cid go; "Oh, while I understand how a hungry animal could steal one's food, I am rather disappointed as now I do not have something to consume myself.") Her leaning on him just made it obvious what was going on. Ms Romane was attempting to woo him! Something she knows she cannot be doing to a man such as Cid, being a monk. But.. Ms Romane was also ignoring him/missing for a month. He did not wish to do the wrong action and cause her disappearance once more! Nirvani would fall into chaos with only two competent law enforcers on duty once more! It was bad enough last month when Cid spotted some litter! Cid didn't even notice that all his embarrassment and shyness at what Romane was unknowingly doing made him not speak at all.

..This action was getting awkward fairly quick. Cid had informed her previous to this – if she recalled correctly, which she was certain she was – that holding hands was a means to show affection. Affection normally meant a positive feeling of like, which she was certain she had. She did like the monk, after all, or else she would not have a friendship with him, correct? Still, this was rather.. nerve wracking. He wasn't speaking at all – there hadn't been a comment or a smile or anything to show that she was doing the correct action! For all she knew, she was doing something terribly wrong, which was why he was being quiet! She hadn't read the whole passage on being friendly or how S-O-F-T-E-N was meant to work.. She frowned at herself and, after a moment of debating, she righted herself, scooting aside to give them a proper distance and setting her hand in her lap.

I apologize if that was inappropriate.” She finally said after a minute of uneasy speculation on her own actions. Cid was an idiot, but he should be capable of knowing when something wasn't safe.. Well, he should be aware of boundaries, at the very least. Then again, he did pick her up and then there was that strange occurrence when his face was getting far too close for comfort.. Now that she thought on that, she couldn't see what she had done to make him uncomfortable, for that was the only reason she could come up with for his silence. Though, they were friends now – this new status on their relationship could have caused him to be more aware of their personal space. “If you wish to retract our friendship as a result, then I would understand.” She wasn't very educated on 'friendship', anyway, she doubted she was much of a candidate. Her shoulders sagged slightly, since – well! She was about to lose her first friend! She had barely had him for a week! It was her fault for not reading the book to it's entirety before proceeding with the friendship maneuver.

Cid would wonder why Romane was saying that if he wanted to not be her friend it would be alright.. but he knew Romane enough to expect her to assume such. He did not wish to end their friendship, but clearly Romane wanted a romantic relationship, which he could not do properly. He did not expect himself to live here his entire life, and he highly doubted that having a relationship was something that one would allow a monk to do. "I enjoy being your friend Romane, I would not end our friendship over such an action. As I greatly enjoy your company." He responded to her. Cid could not think of another reason for why he enjoyed being her friend, or else he would have gone into further detail. But the simple point was that he liked her. In a completely platonic way.

"However, if you wish to have a romantic relationship..." Cid figured that if he did not address this now, then all it will do is complicate things later. If he waited too long Romane could possibly suffer greatly from having the idea of them being partners for too long! So really, he wanted to let her down now instead of having it build up and having to tumble it all over. "...While the thought would be one that I would enjoy with such." Cid wanted to say something to make it clear that he was rejecting her, since he assumed she wanted that type of relationship, but took a bit too long thinking. He did not know how to word this out properly...

(XD A few moments ago you said it was because 'the day hasn't ended for you'!)

Romane perked up when Cid replied – he didn't want to not be friends..? So, then, she still had a friend! She was just wondering how she would manage to get home alone without having a heart attack, since asking someone who was not her friend to walk her home wasn't something one should do. It was invite danger in, after all, and she could very well make Cid annoyed with her if she were to do that. Then there was the issue of where she would live, since she couldn't live in a home with someone who didn't want to be her friend and she wouldn't force Cid out of the home he built.. But, now that she knew he was still her friend she could get home safely with no worries on her residence. In fact, it sounded as if she had been upgraded to a better friend! He wasn't using 'miss' anymore with her name, which meant he was being less formal and saw her in a better light. Was it because she had apologized? That children's book she had looked over had said that honesty was a trait of a good friend.

But, Cid was still talking. She knew he was the sort to talk a lot, so she didn't see much of an issue in it, but what he was saying proved to be.. strange. 'If she wished to have a romantic relationship'. Had Romane said anything about romance? It was absurd of her to be in a relationship since it took time away from her work, which was why she would have to figure out how to maintain this friendship when she was working again. A romantic relationship required more time and attention that she didn't have – ample more! Then, why..? She caught what he said next and blanched. Was he.. implying that he wanted to date her? But – that – what, how.. She didn't know how to react! She didn't want to lose a friend, but Cid had done quite a lot for her.. But, she didn't have the time! Well, she did for now, but having a short term romantic relationship was.. crude.

I also enjoy being your friend. However, I would decline if you wish for a romantic relationship as it would not be a very committed one considering we both would have duties to perform in a short while.” He did have his travels.. Which saddened her since she enjoyed having a friend, but she wouldn't force him to stay on her behalf. Then, there was her job, which would resume eventually. “Though, I understand you have done a great deal for me.. I apologize for not accepting the offer to advance our relationship regardless.” If only because she had been taught to be efficient, Romane was doing much better with letting Cid down! She did truly felt bad for having to do it, but it was for both their benefits.

((Well, yes~ >:'o But it's much easier to blame Lone. Sounds better, oui? :'D ..It was both. XD ))

"Ah.. uh..." Cid was going to say something, but had to think about that now. Did Romane reject him? But she was the one who wished to be in a romantic relationship, not himself! Now that she rejected him, with perfectly understandable reasons that he fully understood, he felt a little.. odd. Disappointment? No, no disappointment would imply that he had expectations, which he did not. No, it was more of a saddening feeling that he could not explain but started in his chest. Hmm.. a possible heart attack? Would that not hurt more? "I am.. glad you understand Ms Romane. But I must comment that I was merely trying to inform you that I did not wish to have a romantic relationship myself, as you were currently showing signs of such."

If Cid understood what he was doing, this would be one of those; 'you're not rejecting me, I'm rejecting you!' kind of things. "..However out of curiosity, are our current duties the only thing which keeps us from being in a romantic relationship? I, being a monk, would never do such, but I am very curious as to what.. erm.. how I do not meet your expectations."

Romane had barely noticed the moon starting to sink as he searched for something to say. It only made her feel worse to know that she had stunned him – had she lead him on? She knew that it was already a popular opinion – or seemed to be – that she was the sort to like short relationships of the intimate nature, so she couldn't blame Cid for thinking she wo – What? Her thoughts stopped in their tracks as he replied, but it wasn't the answer she expected at all. He was declining her? She didn't have a large ego, really, but she thought she wasn't that bad. He had said she was more suitable than the woman found on TV, which were intended to be suitable to all males, so she thought that to Cid, at least, she was adequate.. Finding that he apparently didn't wish for a romantic relationship – no, wait. She didn't want a romantic relationship, it didn't matter to her at all if he didn't either! ..That was the correct reaction, at least, though it didn't feel very genuine.

She frowned at his question, “I could ask the same. However, since you were the one to inquire first, I will answer first.” She thought on it for a moment or two, considering it. It was hard to think of a decision without her job in mind, but she somehow managed to with enough concentration. “I do not believe it is only our duties. A romantic relationship requires time before it can be initiated, eight months is the expected time to wait before any such title can be rightfully used.” That was what she had been told, anyway. “There are exceptions, however, I do not know what they are so I can not properly inform you of them.” Her father had never given her that second 'talk' he promised, after all, and she couldn't call him up now.

If we are to speak of expectations – ah, your suitability to be a partner..” She looked at him in study, pondering on how to answer that. ..Really, Romane hadn't even thought on dating until Ginger had done that.. thing with her. Her last talk had been when she was twelve and she didn't have any opportunities to attempt to date at the time – it had just slipped her mind once she started working. But, if she were to think on who would be a proper life partner.. “..I do not see any expectations you have not met physically. You have attributes which are largely considered attractive and you are physically fit. Mentally, however, you are lacking. You are too trusting of a person and naïve, you are clueless when it comes to certain boundaries, and you assume too much.” She stopped for a second and let out a breath, “Though, that is why I enjoy your company.” She wouldn't trust him very much if he wasn't like that..

She turned towards him and crossed her arms, “Now, I ask that you inform me what about me is inadequate?” She told him, now it was his turn! She could name several things, of course, but it would be nice to hear someone else's critique.. She hadn't had one in a long while, after all.
