Asylum Chapter 1
NEW DEVELOPMENTS
NEW DEVELOPMENTS
What is an Asylum? Where they keep crazy people right? Wrong. It's where they keep the people humans are afraid of, the Asylum inmates don't become crazy until they have been locked up long enough. Everyone in the Asylum has abilities, abilities humans are afraid of. One insane man stood out though. His name is Grin, and because of his actions, the insane are free amongst the humans but the Asylum wants them back especially Grin.
"Quick! There's one just down this alley." a guard from The Asylum called to his squad mates. They were chasing a thin figure in a tatter cloak. The figure rushed down an alleyway at hid in a dumpster. Luckily the Asylum guards walked on by.
When they were completely gone, the figure popped out of the dumpster and hurried down the street. The stars and moon blaring down, lighting the Asylum escapee's way. The person stopped in the middle of the street and removed their hood. It was a girl with inky black hair, skin so pale and white she could blend in with paper, and stitches everywhere. There was one small one on her forehead, a few on her neck, and the one that stood out the most was a horizontal scar that went from cheek to cheek just over lapping her nose. The only color this odd girl had to her was a pink blush in the middle of her face and the dark crimson tint in her eyes.
She looked from side to side then ran down the street again. She had no idea where she was. All the girl cared about doing was running anywhere. Without paying attention she ran into someone and toppled over. As she hit the ground she let out a bit of a moaning noise, almost as if she enjoyed the pain. "Watch where you're going!" the man she bumped into said. He looked over the girl admiringly and grinned. "Say? What's such a cute young girl like you doing out so late eh? I just might have to escort you." He said, reaching down at the girl. Quickly and ferociously she bit his hand, making the man pull back. His hand began to spurt blood uncontrollably. He soon became as pale as the girl and died from blood loss.
The girl stood up and walked away, completely emotionless to the whole scene. Moments later the girl found herself standing near a few houses, unaware of where to go. She looked around at the houses. All the lights were off except for one in a rather large house. The window was open too. Hurriedly the girl ran to the window, climbed into the room, and sat on the floor. She was now in someone's bedroom. Motionless on the floor with her bottom on hardwood flooring and her legs straight out. They were just as stitched together and pale as her face. Her knees were a pinkish color, like they were raw from abuse.
"Man! I'm tired." A teenage boy said as he came into the room. He was in gray sweat pants, a white T-shirt, and barefoot with a towel drying his wet red hair. For a moment the two only stared at each other. Five minutes had gone by and neither made any kind of movement until the boy finally spoke. "Who are you?" he asked. "Kumori Ookami." the girl replied as if it were a normal conversation with no tension at all. "Why are you in my room?" the boy asked, raising an eyebrow at Kumori. "Hiding." she replied in the same calm tone.
"From what?" he asked.
"Asylum Guards."
"Why?"
"They chased."
"Do you speak in complete sentences?"
"Sometimes."
The staring continued for a few more minutes. "Do you mind getting a different hiding place?" the boy asked. "Kumori is tired and doesn't want to leave. The floor hurts her bottom and she likes it." Kumori replied, awkwardly patting the floor. "You talk in third person and like that the floor hurts your butt? Yeah you gotta go." the boy said, grabbing onto Kumori's cloak to pull her up. She was resistant and with a quick tug her cloak was torn off. Underneath Kumori wore a black dress that went just a little past her crotch. It was big around the collar so it hung off one shoulder. More stitched scars and pale skin was visible now. Her elbows were just as pink as her knees.
"Holy s**t." the boy said, looking Kumori up and down. "What happened to you?" he said, sitting on his bed. It wasn't that he was scared or freaked out, he only saw the scars and paleness as a little weird. "Kumori gets hurt a lot. Normally she wouldn't mind but the Asylum hurts Kumori the wrong way." Kumori said, massaging her tender legs. The boy sat in silent contemplation, still examining Kumori. "My name is Dren by the way. Dren Ashburn." he said. Kumori replied with a smile. "Alright here's the deal. You can sleep here for the night, but tomorrow you need to find a new place to crash." Dren said. Most people would think he was an idiot for letting a stranger on the run sleep in his room, but Dren didn't really care much at all.
Kumori smiled widely and hugged Dren's neck. "Kumori is thankful." she spoke softly and happily. "Wonderful. Now please stop touching me." Dren said, peeling away from Kumori. He got a mat out of his closet and laid it on the floor. He also grabbed a spare blanket and pillow, then laid down on the mat. "Since you're in pan you can have the bed." Dren said, closing his eyes and turning his back to Kumori. The strange girl looked at Dren, then the bed, then Dren again. She stood up and got under the covers and slowly dozed off with a smile on her face.
The next morning the bright sun crept into the window and across Kumori's face. It tingled and she awoke. Kumori sat up, stretched, then got out of bed. "Is Dren awake yet?" Kumori asked, kneeling down and poking Dren. He grumbled and turned over to see Kumori staring at him. "Hungry?" Dren asked. It was the only thing he could think to say. Moments later Dren was in his kitchen where his mother, younger sister, and younger brother were. "Hey Dre!" Dren's little brother Mitchell said. "Did you sleep well?" Dren's sister and mother asked simultaneously. Dren's sister was named Eva and his mother was Sylvia. "Hi and I slept fine. I got school soon so I need to eat fast. Can I get a double helping mom?" Dren asked. "Why a double helping?" Sylvia asked. "I'm really hungry." Dren lied.
His mother gave him the two plates of food and winked. "You be a good boy with your guest." she said. "What are you talking about?" Dren said, trying to play dumb. He knew it was no use though. "I went into your room last night. I saw you on the floor and a girl in your bed." Sylvia said, smiling lovingly. She obviously hadn't noticed Kumori's scars. "Dre brought over a girl? And she slept in his bed? Dre's movin' up in the world." Mitchell said teasingly. "Shut it rat!" Dren said, leaving for his room. Once there he stared at Kumori weirdly. What he'd walked in on was an odd scene. Kumori was snarling and gnawing on her arm. "You're hungrier than I thought." Dren said, handing Kumori the plate of eggs, potatoes, and black beans. Kumori ceased her snarling and gnawing, and happily ate the food.
"So you're running from an Asylum? Does that mean you're crazy?" Dren asked. Kumori shook her head. "Kumori is sane, just different. The Asylum takes different people, non-humans and locks them up. They did it to Kumori and hurt her the wrong way." Kumori explained. "What do you mean hurt you the wrong way and non-humans." Dren asked curiously. "Kumori will demonstrate." Kumori answered. She put down her plate then stared at Dren. Kumori's crimson eyes flashed, then she bit down slightly on the palm of her right hand. Just then, Dren's right hand palm started to bleed. "You did that?" Dren asked, pointing at the blood. Kumori sheepishly nodded. She was ready to be screamed at and attacked like most people had done to her. "Cool." Dren said. Kumori was shocked and happy that Dren wasn't afraid or mad at her. Dren wiped the blood off on his pant leg and finished his meal.
"Dren honey. You're going to be late for school." Sylvia said as she entered the room. As this happened, Kumori's scars disappeared and the pink on her skin was gone. "Hello." Sylvia said to Kumori. THe girl waved back a bit shyly. "Well are you going to introduce me Dren?" Sylvia asked. "Oh sorry mom. This is Kumori, Kumori this is my mom." Dren said, feeling dumb. "Mom we need to get ready for school so please leave." Dren said, pushing his mother out. When she was gone Kumori's pinkness and scars came back. Dren paid it no mind though. "School?" Kumori questioned. "Yeah. If you wanna get to stay here more you gotta come to school with me to pretend to be normal." Dren said. Kumori just smiled and nodded. She watched awkwardly as Dren got ready for school. Minutes later the two were walking into a crowded high school building. The bussle of students was loud and fast, which fascinated Kumori. "Loud, quick.... why?" Kumori asked.
Dren had dressed himself in black jeans where the knees were faded white. He had a black short sleeve shirt with a cartoon fireball on it that was saying "Hawt!". His back pack was red and it had a hood attached. "Everyone is getting to class." Dren said, looking Kumori up and down. Her scars were gone and the pink on her skin was too. He only noticed it just now. "They're all going to learn?" Kumori asked. Dren nodded as a response. "Can Kumori learn too?" she asked hopefully. "Depends. I gotta sneak you into class." Dren said, shrugging. "I'll try." he added.
"Hey Dren! How's it man?" an African American boy said, walking up to Dren and Kumori. "Hey Malcom." Dren said, doing a quick handshake. "This is Kumori in case you were about to ask." Dren said. Kumori smiled and waved at Malcom. "Hello there." Malcom said, grinning and looking Kumori up and down. "Oh uh Char was looking for you." Malcom quickly remembered. "What does Charolette want?" Dren asked. It was obvious he didn't really care. "Something about lab work. I don't know." Malcom said.
"Lab work? Kumori doesn't understand." Kumori said, staring blankly at Malcom and Dren. "She speaks in third person. Weird yeah, but it's easy to get used to." Dren said. "Remember on the news how some Asylum had a breakout? She's from there but she's pretty sane." Dren explained to Malcom. "That's weird like all around weird. Don't let Char see her or you're gonna die man." Malcom said, chuckling. "Too late he's already dead." a girl with long brown hair said. "So you're hanging out with criminals again?" Charolette asked angrily. "Crazy person, not a criminal." Malcom corrected. Charolette shot him a dirty look and he backed away.
"Kumori isn't crazy. She's just different." Kumori said defensively. "Kumori can demonstrate." She added. Kumori bit down on her hand and Dren's started to bleed again. "Can you not do that?" Dren asked, wiping the blood on the wall. "Okay not crazy or a criminal. She's a freak. I'm calling the cops." Charolette said, taking out a cell phone. Dren took the phone and put it in his pocket. "No you're not. Quit being such a jealous a*****e. We're not even together anymore." Dren said, staring Charolette down.
"Kumori is in danger." Kumori said, sniffing the air. "Asylum Guards are here." she added. Just as Kumori spoke, a wall crashed inward. People screamed and scattered. "The wolf is here somewhere. I can feel it." a pale guy with silver hair said. He had on black pants, a gray and white stripped shirt, and a black jacket. He had grinning widely and someone was following him. "Cool it Desmond." a girl with long reddish hair stepped into view as she spoke. She had on a pink shirt that said "PuNk" in different fonted letters, a skirt with chains hanging off and fishnet stockings and combat boots. "Oh come on Jez. I only wanna have some fun." Desmond said, grinning even wider.
"Rune's gonna be pissed about this wall." Jezebel said. SHe smacked Desmond over the head and noticed Kumori. "You! Stitches!" she called out. Kumori sort of whimpered and hid behind Dren. He stood and stared blankly. "Who are you guys?" He finally asked. "We're members of Asylum's elite guard. Psycho Watch." Jezebel answered. "I'm Jezebel and this is Desmond. Psycho names are Demon Eye and Pins." she added. "Weird. We gotta go to class. Bye now." Dren said, pushing his friends away from the Psycho Watchers. "Not so fast buddy. You have something of ours. Give us the wolf." Desmond said, grinning manically.
"Wolf? You mean Kumori?" Dren asked, confused. He remembered hearing that Ookami was the Japanese word for wolf. "Seeing her current state I don't think that'd be fair." Dren said, keeping Kumori behind him. Charolette and Malcom didn't understand what he meant but they kept quiet. "Doesn't matter. The b***h is Asylum property. We're taking her." Jezebel spoke harshly. Before another word could be said, another crash stirred up dust. "I got captain smiles you take care of b***h-of-the-year." someone said from the dust. A bolt of lightning collided with Desmond and sent him flying like a rag doll. Then what looked like a chunk of the floor was flung at Jezebel, knocking her away with Desmond.
Without warning someone grabbed Dren and Kumori and drug them off after knocking them out. Charolette and Malcom both ran away and the Psycho Watchers left angrily. About an hour later Dren woke, feeling dazed and confused. He looked around his surroundings, but couldn't find any noticeable landmarks. "Kumori?" Dren called out, but there was no response. When he finally tried to move, that was when it hit him. Dren was tied to a chair and in the sewer. "What the hell? Kumori are you out there?" Dren called out again. This time he heard footsteps. Soon he saw a boy not much older than him with blue spiked hair. A chain around his neck said "Insane" in shiny metal letters. He had on baggy cargo pants and an army green tee. "You're loud you know that?" the boy spoke.
"Where am I?" Dren asked, not sounding scared at all. He wasn't. Nothing in life really scared Dren, something that worried a few people. "You're in the sewer. My name is Jolt and you're our prisoner." the boy answered, trying to scare Dren. "Our?" Dren asked, confused. Before Jolt could answer he was thrown aside by a smokey and furry hand. Dren was a bit glad to see Kumori, a little weirded out by her hand though. "Is Dren okay?" she asked. "Yeah. Can you untie me please?" Dren replied. Kumori nodded. Her hand went back to normal and she untied Dren. He stood up, rubbed his wrists, and then grabbed Kumori and ran.
"Oh no you don't!" Jolt yelled, getting up and shooting electricity from his fingers at Dren and Kumori. The two ducked and dodged the incoming attack. Just barely. "Kumori can stop him." Kumori said, getting ready to use her power. "Watch out!" Dren said as he pushed her aside. Dren was hit with an enormous muscly fist and knocked out. Kumori was stunned. Dren had been helping her a lot even though he didn't know exactly who or what she was. She felt bad, like she didn't deserve his kindness. "Stop! Leave Kumori and Master alone!" Kumori yelled. She grabbed the muscled man who hit Dren and threw him at Jolt. Kumori proceeded to beat the living tar out of the two, wanting only to protect Dren. "Hey hey hey! Calm down!" Someone yelled, soon after coming into sight.
It was a girl who looked exactly like Jezebel only her shirt was black and had "PrEp" on it. "Stop killing my friends please." the girl said. Kumori stared, feral anger searing inside of her. "I'm Angel Eye, Angel for short. Those two are Jolt and Bulk. I don't know what they did to you but you're safe here." she added. Kumori turned to Dren who started to wake up. She ran to him and helped him. "Is Master okay? Is he hurt anywhere?" Kumori asked. Dren was going to ask her what she was talking about, but Angel spoke first. "This guy is your Master? Sorry, if Grin knew that none of this would've happened." Angel said.
"I'm Kumori's what?" Dren said, dumbfounded. "Dren is Kumori's Master now. As thanks for being so kind and caring so much." Kumori answered. Dren stared at Kumori for what felt like an eternity. "I'm your what?" he repeated. "Dren is Kumori's Master. Forever." Kumori answered happily. Dren didn't know what to think other than what was suddenly happening to his life. In only one day Dren had been attacked by weirdo cops (as he saw the Psycho Watchers), kidnapped by super powered sewer people, and declare a badly scarred girl's new Master. "What in the hell?!" Dren yelled out, only being given strange looks. All from except Kumori who was only smiling lovingly and hugging an uninjured Dren.
"Quick! There's one just down this alley." a guard from The Asylum called to his squad mates. They were chasing a thin figure in a tatter cloak. The figure rushed down an alleyway at hid in a dumpster. Luckily the Asylum guards walked on by.
