It was no lie that M'cel loved the hustle and bustle that was going on about his Weyr at this current state. There was the council, the speeches, all the forigen dragons (Who were behaving themselves so far), the flight (With that rather nice sized bronze from Benden of all places flying their little queen... The flight had been long, so he couldn't complain) and the following night in the Weyr... It'd been a good time so far for his beloved Lady.

There is much going on. Perhaps that Crimson rider will be here? Tairoth murmured to him, just waking up from the night. Of course, the big lazy Black was already heading out to the rocks to sun himself.

"Likely, beloved. But she'll be on business here, not for fun." He told his, sneaking towards the kitchens in search of a snack. He was nursing a morning after, and was probably still a little inebriated from the night before. Good, good night. He loved it when the Weyr was busy like this. So much fun to do.

"Hello, ladies~" He called, waving to those pretty faces that he knew as he searched for his breakfast. "Lovely morning I've been told. I hain't seen hide nor hair of it yet, though, so I'll reserve judgment~"

There was talk that M'cel spoke because he loved the sound of his voice. At the moment, it was more pleasant to hear that than the buzz of his head. Ah, well. There was always something annoying in his life.

Adine loved kitchen chores, even the ones that had her up early. And boy, things were busier than ever! All the hustle and bustle was exciting, with so many more people to feed than normal. Some might have found it stressful, but that was a word the teenager hardly even knew. Busy might as well have been another word for fun, since it meant she was always moving, something was always happening.

And someone was always wandering through, looking for something to eat. There was umm...one of the blackriders! "Morning, M'cel~!" she called back cheerfully, "Looking for anything in particular?"

She didn't know him know him, but she was in the kitchen an awful lot, and she had a mind like a steel trap when it came to people and their names.

"Mmm? Oh, hello Lass." M'cel smiled at the girl, far far too young to flirt with. She was still a sweet lass, though, and that more than deserved courtesy. "For sure, I'm needing Klah. There were festivities last night... That were amusing. All in the name of diplomacy!" He looked rather silly for a moment, so ferocious, so very, very hungover.

Then:

"Have you been enjoying yourself, dear? Have the foreign riders been kind to you? And, since we just had a flight, there'll be a clutch hardening on the sands soon. Excited for a chance to stand?" Even as he was, he was a cheerful, excitable man. He spotted a pitcher of Klah and helped himself. "Oh, and what do your recommend? It's always wise to ask those who know what they're doing." He said, winking at the girl.

Well, if he was hungover, at least it didn't make him grumpy! Far too many people didn't handle the morning after well, which was quite silly, in her opinion. They'd gotten there on their own, and they shouldn't take it out on everyone else! Sure, it sucked to have a headache - been there, done that! - but some things just weren't for sharing.

Adi started to move for the Klah, but he found it on his own, leaving her to answer his questions. "Oh, definitely! It's all so exciting, all these people and all this stuff going on. Some of them are a little crabby, but it hasn't been too bad."

"Of course! I can't wait to see the eggs. That sure was something else, wasn't it? So many dragons, all after one of ours! I'm glad none of them really ran into each other." That would have made everything altogether less exciting.

"Hmm." Hand on her hip, the teenager glanced around at everything on offer. "I always like the little pastries. They're really good with Klah, too."

If anything, a hangover made him more cheerful. Sure, he hurt like a dragon was blazing in his skull. But that meant he'd had a good night! He took a sip of his klah, winced, and looked down at the teen. "Love, when you get older, don't overindulge on the wine. You look to be a smart lass. Learn from the mistakes of your stupid, stupid elders." He grinned over the cup at her.

"Luckily, they've got some sense left in flight." Having never had a dragon who flew mating flights, he wasn't an expert on the feelings, but it couldn't been too different from being slightly drunk and aiming for a woman out of your reach. "It was pretty spectacular, though. So many in the air. Clever was the one what caught her." He took another sip, and snagged a pastry. Delightful.

"Good recommendation. And if any of those folk do give you trouble, you can always holler at me, love. I'm all always come running at a pretty lass' call." The flirting was, unfortunately, something that was part of his speech. He certainly didn't mean anything by it. "How old are you now, fourteen, fifften turns? I remember when you were running about knee high to a wherry. How time flies."

The girl chuckled. "You should remind some of the other candidates about that."

"So what do you think, about it being a Benden dragon and all?" The Old Weyr had to be pleased with itself, one of their own beating out all the others. "Good thing it wasn't Feynath, though. Can you imagine?" It was one thing for a dragon from another Weyr to catch a junior queen, but a senior? There'd be an uproar!

"I doubt they'll bother me. I'm just a little candidate, after all. But thank you, I'll remember that." She doubted anyone would decide to be troublesome; most of them seemed to be on pretty good behavior. A council really wasn't a good time to misbehave, especially considering what had happened at Trine.

"Sixteen, actually," she corrected with a good-natured grin, crossing her arms over her chest. Adi didn't mind his manner of speaking at all. It was pleasant, friendly and flattering. What girl didn't like it when she was called pretty? Even if it was followed up by a reference to the 'distant' past of her childhood.

"You're what, hmm..." Adine made a great show of thinking about it, studying his face to try and puzzle it out, and went high with clear intent to tease. "Fifty?"

"Eh, after hatching, it's a candidate's prerogative to have a wee bit too much of the stuff." M'cel said. He'd certianly been guilty of helping those along after a hatching.

"Eh, personally? It doesn't matter too much to me. I mean, it's not like he can take the eggs with him to Benden. The bronze seemed a good size, and the flight was long. As long as he doesn't pop Between and back here during the hatching to protest any Atypicals being born then there shouldn't be a problem. He flew well, so hats off to him." He shook his head and grinned. "Oh, shells above, I don't think Feynath would've let anyone from anywhere else fly her. I think those old ladies get very set in their ways after a time." He winked and laughed.

"You never know. Some people aren't very nice out there." M'cel waggled his finger. "We riders owe it to our Lady Malvern to protect those that reside within her halls. People can get all sorts of uppity.

Ah, now where did the time go? They all seemed to grow so fast. For a moment, there was a stunning feeling of.. Regret? It was momentary and passed nearly as quickly as these girl's turns had. When she guessed his age, he groaned and faked a blow to the heart, rocking back and covering his chest with a hand. "Darling, you wound me! I've yet hit forty turns, let alone fifty! Though, I'm naught but two shy of forty... It won't be long before you younguns are tossing me and Tairoth out to pasture."

Toss me out to the rocks. Tairoth told him sleepily, already in his favorite spot. It's warmer than a pasture.

Hush, you. He thought fondly, then laughed. "Tairoth is of the opinion that we can retire, but only if it's someplace warm. He's a creature of comfort."

That was something Adine had never quite understood, getting into some depressed fit because you didn't Impress. Maybe if it was your last Hatching, but if it wasn't, there would be more! Either way, there'd be plenty of opportunities of some kind or another. Whining and complaining and bemoaning your bad luck didn't help anything. It just made it worse, really.

"I guess that'd bother them, that there might be Atypicals." Another thing Adi had difficulty wrapping her mind around; what was wrong about saving dragons from dying? It didn't make any sense to leave them in their shells to die! "They'll just have to get over it, though."

The young woman giggled at his reaction to her pretend guess. He wasn't that old-looking, of course, just in that middle-aged group that was 'old' to younger people, but not old old. "Aww, we wouldn't toss you out! I'm sure we could find some use for you."

"What Weyr's got the best weather?" Malvren was nice, but it did get cold in the winter.

"That's the spirit." It was likely M'cel was just doubly prejudiced from having Tairoth. He loved the big stupid dullglow. "Like it or not, this isn't Benden. We're much more civilized here."

"Oh, really? I'm sure I'd be of use in Search if they'd let me out among the holders. For some reason, I don't think they think It'd be wise." M'cel grinned; he was known for being a bit ornery. "Or teaching you whipper-snappers what for. My glow won't go dull for some time. I'd be around to pester pretty young things like yourself for turns to come."

"Hmm...." He thought about this for a bit. "I do like here, of course. Trine is very nice; they've got lovely vegetation there, but they don't have our caves. Southern is very mild and lovely. I haven't been up north much, but I've heard nothing but horror stories about how cold Benden and Fort are. I've old bones, I need my warmth!"

"Candidatemaster, huh?" Adine chuckled. "Sure you could handle us?"

"Snow's fun to play in and all, but I'm glad we don't get it much." The candidate shivered at the thought of Northern weather. Though she wasn't one to complain about it, Adi really didn't like being cold. It was one thing that could keep her inside, at least to some extent; it didn't take long for her to get tired of being cooped up and go out anyway.

"Trine has nice vegetation, really?" That piqued her interest for sure, not that she'd ever leave Malvren. It was home!

"Ah, Lass, I've more energy than I can spare most days." M'cel teased, grinning at her from over his klah cup. "And Tairoth's a just a huge hatchling."

"I'm not fond of storms, m'self. Love being near the sea and all, but I've seen the squalls pick up so bad... Makes me glad dragons have sense to go between. They can come up on you in a moment's notice if you're out flying." He shook his head. Scary stuff!

"Oh, aye! They've got a good ammount of wooded area, and some big grassy plains. I was out searing for th'weed in their area a while back. Met up with one of their riders, nice lass." If one could describe Sanza as nice. He liked her, and Tairoth had liked her Maomith enough to remember that she exsisted, so all in all it'd been a good day.

"I dunno, there's an awful lot of us to keep in line. Or maybe you'd help us get into trouble instead?" M'cel seemed like a lot of fun...it was hard to picture him being any kind of a disciplinarian.

"They're nice to watch, but I sure don't like being in 'em." Getting soaked was tolerable and even potentially fun as long as it wasn't cold out, but storms could be dangerous. "I can't imagine being in the air. They're bad enough on the ground!" The wind was probably terrible.

"Ohh, did you find anything?" The whole mystweed affair was fascinating and exciting. To think one little plant could be so important!

"Hah, I suppose I'd help more than I'd hinder." M'cel grinned. "What can I say, I've always been a troublemaker? My poor Weyrling Master.... He was always chasing me from where I shouldn't have been. But, on the flip side, I do know a lot about getting into trouble. You'd be hard pressed to be a few steps ahead of me. And I know what it's like to get in trouble from them already..." He stroked his chin thoughtfully. Huh!

"Inland storms are nice, but the ones on the sea... Shards, they're horrifying. Tairoth and I wound up under the water once. Scariest sharding thing. He got us out of there, but I was drying out my leathers for what seemed like forever...."

"Ah, nothing live." M'cel frowned. "Saw some dead samples, but never found it alive. Hopefully with all of the going ons that are going on, we can get the egg rolling and do something about this whole situation."
PostPosted: Sat Nov 13, 2010 2:08 pm

"I bet you have some good stories." Adine giggled. M'cel sounded like he'd have been a handful for whatever Candidate- and Weyrlingmasters had been stuck with him. But there were some in every group, for certain. There was, after all, an endless supply of Weyrbrats.

The teenager's eyes widened at what M'cel described next. A storm so bad they'd ended up under the water? In the sea? That was, really, really dangerous! "That sounds awful. I'm glad you made it out of there."

"I hope so, too. What d'you think it'll be? I think the little greenhouses sound pretty cool. Like...like ancient Farmcraft."
