Acacia was standing beneath an almost barren tree, her eyes skyward watching to see when the last leaves would fall. She stood there for hours, watching them flutter one by one dismally to the ground. It was just like all the leads for her sister. They were gone. Maybe she was alive, maybe she'd be gone for years. It was something to cling to, to hope for. She was the only family she had left. But she was blessed, she had life. She had Galahad who watched over her, and she had peace. It was strange how peace had come, not with thunderous applause or with shouts of triumph. It had come softly, carefully into the night and stole into her heart. It was so gentle she hadn't known it was there until she realized her tears were mostly gone. It was these thoughts that were on Acacia's mind when she noticed another mare not far away. Seeing the look of distress on the girl's face she approached and asked tenatively, "Are you okay? Can I help you?" Her voice was soft, lilting.

The sun was making its slow descent, and the day was getting cooler. It was the time of year when the trees began to shed their leaves and litter the ground, creating a light brown bedding of crispy leaves. The forest was getting darker and the sunset was casting distorted shadows, but Macchi didn't care. She trudged along, with no direction and no purpose.
Almost dragging her feet, she was completely unaware of where she was or where she was going. She didn't even think about how she would eat or where she would sleep. Her mother had left her a while back, and today, she had lost her brother. The two had never really been close, but it was nice to have a companion and be able to be with someone else. Now she was all alone.
Her eyes began to fill with tears, but she was reluctant in letting them spill. Deep inside her, she hoped that she could possibly run into her mother or her father and that they would apologize and take her back, and drown her with the affectionate love she'd never gotten. She stopped and looked up at the darkening sky, wondering whether she'd ever be happy again. "Hmm?" she answered to the kind voice. "I'm fine." she said sadly, dismissing the stranger. She hadn't even noticed the mare come up to her.

"You don't look find," Acacia's voice as even and soothing. She knew it was awkward, she was a stranger. Who wanted to talk to a stranger? But talking was better than not. Not talking caused lots of pain, she knew. It was agony.
The wind whipped through her hair and leaves blew in swirls around her. "I don't mind listening. I know I'm...just some stranger. But I want to help you, that counts for something right?"

Macchi shrugged. "Mmph. Whatever." she rolled over onto her side and faced the other direction. "Lose a father, lose a mother, lose a brother, wander around aimlessly, and maybe in a year you'll be where I am now." She couldn't mask the pain in her voice, although she hid herself from the stranger.
She'd come across many others that had wanted to help her, but she felt that there was no longer any hope for her. There was no one that she could associate with; no one that would understand.

Acacia's voice was low and pained. "I'll raise you another dead brother and sister, and missing little sister."
She watched the girl, she'd been there before. Not wanting to eat, or move...Death almost seemed welcome. But then one day, she had realized, she was still alive despite wanting to die...That meant something didn't it?

Macchi looked up in disbelief. Was this stranger trying to crack a joke? She was certainly not in the mood. She lowered her head again and replied arrogantly, "If you're not here to do or say anything worth my time, just leave."
She snarled aggressively and hoped this stranger would leave her alone. "What would you know about losing someone, and not having anyone you know in this world?" she argued back angrily. "I bet you've never lost anyone you were attached to!"

Acacia felt the hot flames of anger burning inside her body. She'd never been so mad....That wasn't true. She had...but she pushed that away.
"Are you stupid?" She never talked like this, but she was seething. "I just said I lost them. In a fire," her voice began to shake. "I know pain."

"Erm... no. You didn't say such a thing." Macchi thought of losing her entire family to a fire as opposed to them abandoning her, and wasn't sure which was worse. If they were dead, she wouldn't have to try to find them. But since they aren't... she still has this tinge of regret and sadness about it. If they were dead... she'd be able to make her peace with it. Then the worst occurred to her. What if her family that abandoned her had died? She'd never get to tell them how mad she was! And she'd never get a second chance...
"I should really be going now." she decided she was actually going to look for them. She felt a little bad about being so rough to a mare that was just trying to help, but she wasn't in the mood to be kind. Maybe in another lifetime they could be friends.

Acacia felt her anger deflate, she could see that she was being left again. Left to deal, left to herself...left to whatever. She felt bitter. Would things always be like this? Was she this horrid to be around, or was this girl not wanting to deal? Did she reach her, did she make any difference at all?
