When it came to a school that was steadily growing in population it was difficult, if not impossible, to find a place where one could study in peace and quiet. Oddly enough the library seemed to be more quiet than usual, though he attributed that to it being later in the day; most students tended to only use it when absolutely necessary. However Caellum's addiction to knowledge was worse than his addiction to nicotine sometimes which often had him browsing through the various texts available for loan. Science, history, lore... All of it appealed to him and he couldn't seem to keep himself from reading despite the fact that it immediately got him stamped as a book worm.
After wandering the library for several minutes in search of the ideal table he finally settled on one on the second floor in view of the stairs. Despite how anti-social he seemed at times he didn't find it particularly appealing to tuck himself away in a dark corner of the library. He enjoyed the light and the quiet murmurs from the floor below, the sound soothing and making it almost easier to read than pure silence. Perhaps deep down he did enjoy the presence of others... They just had to not be mean, annoying, boisterous or arrogant. That and he preferred his company to be that of the more intellectual sort... At least most of the time.
Setting his backpack on the table he began to rummage through the contents, setting his water bottle aside and pulling out a few books he had collected. Next came a blue notebook, worn at the edges from use along with a mechanical pencil, also blue, that was set neatly on the notebook. Next came his MP3 player, the best thing that his trainer had ever gotten for him, and his large, over-the-ear headphones. However he slipped one behind his ear so as to still be able to hear everything that was going on around him, his foot tapping a little to the soft, classic rock coming from the headphones.
"Finally." he breathed, flipping open one of his books and flipping through the pages until he got to the official beginning of the book. He reached out, pulling a cigarette from his pack and slipping it between his lips, chewing a little on the filter as he read.

There were many things that could contribute to the idea that Kiyoshi was not what one would call normal.
Perhaps reading on the floor was one of them. Though, Kiyoshi supposed, this had to be that "one step too far" that his guardian had always spoken about. But there was a valid explanation, really there was. After a relatively bad attempt at a fight with the sheep on the floor one afternoon, a poor unfortunate soul had landed himself in the hospital wing, and Kiyoshi with a fresh forming realization that library floors weren't always as innocent as the libraries themselves. And because of that, the Ampharos had found a new hideaway. A place where no one could get to unless they were playing their own twisted version of hide and seek. Tail glowing with a dim, gentle red, Kiyoshi tilted his head downwards, eyes skimming the trail of chinese characters down the page. A pile of books lay beside him in the dark, though after scouring the entirety of the library, he'd come away with only a very small list of books written in the language he was most familiar with. Though he could read english, it wasn't as well practiced as his words, and getting a headache over a novel was not the ideal way for him to spend the day.
Kiyoshi let loose a soft breath, his eyes hazing with a far away look, fingers loosening around the edge of the page. His mind drifted, and the gem fell in and out of glowing, like that of a light switch being turned up and down. It was only when the sound of weight on the stairs echoed through the otherwise empty library that Kiyoshi roused himself from his own mind, his tail instantly flickering out like a dead lightbulb. His breath caught in his throat, a deep twisted tangle of air, and it took the Ampharos's will to keep from coughing on the knot in his throat. Ears flexed forward, the electric type waited in silence, his eyes curious, his legs curled to his chest. He was hidden, he was safe, but ah, just where was he in fact? A chair pulled out in front of his legs, and the familiar voice from above signaled a Squirtle he'd never quite understood. Caellum? The Ampharos might have laughed. Hidden under a table being occupied by the one person he'd yet to actually talk to for more than a few short minutes, Kiyoshi could only wonder what kind of spite fate had with him.
Suddenly, Kiyoshi realized that escape was impossible without being caught, and he'd rather be the one to inform the Squirtle of his hiding place rather than encounter a painful kick to the side ( something that had happened on more than one occasion in the past ) because he was too confident that he had nestled himself far enough in. Slowly, the gleam of the gem began again, glowing a dull, iridescent crimson that decorated the darkness of the space beneath the table. Swaying it back and forth, Kiyoshi watched transfixed for a moment, before stretching out the appendage and curling it loosely around the ankle of the tapping foot. He watched for a reaction, ready to yank his tail back if danger rose, or if he'd mistaken the person up above. But that voice was certainly familiar enough, wasn't it? Carefully, Kiyoshi tilted his head, his knees still bent to touch his chest and his hands still resting on their bony tops. His hair had been pulled into a high ponytail, and his striped ears swiveled and flexed to and fro, trying to catch onto sound and silence.
"Caellum?" The voice still tasted foreign on his tongue. He paused, wondering for a moment just how odd he would look. A smile curved onto his face and he rested his chin on his knees. Oh well, an encounter was an encounter, no matter the oddities of it.

Caellum was glad that of all the choices he'd had for books, he'd picked this one. Usually he didn't judge by author, but by the quality of writing in sections as he skimmed through the pages. It was a book on philosophy this time, written by a virtually unknown author, yet he found it incredibly fascinating. Unlike many of the text books he read, this was not dumbed down to make it easier for the less intelligent students to read. It was full of large words and difficult words that he soaked up greedily as he read... However his intent focus on the book left him at a slight disadvantage as it left him completely unprepared for the tail that coiled around his ankle.
As he'd been so incredibly focused he hasn't noticed the red glow from beneath the table until he stiffened, straightening immediately, the cigarette falling from between his lips to roll into the crease at the center of the book. With a startled sound, something between a grunt and a quiet yelp he jerked his chair back and, eyes a little wide, glanced beneath the table. His surprise was slowly giving way to his more typical anger, something that most of his emotions seemed to spiral down into, only for him to pause, staring, blinking at who was underneath the table.
"....Kiyoshi?" he questioned after a moment, staring at the other man before visibly relaxing, his shoulders slumping a little.
He wasn't certain why but Kiyoshi seemed to always disarm his normally volatile anger, leaving him a little perplexed and, typically, at a complete loss when it came to dealing with him. Caellum had never had any reason to really be annoyed or angry with Kiyoshi, as he always seemed so innocent and kind. It was... Extremely odd. Never mind that his mannerisms themselves simply seemed endearing as opposed to annoying. Mentally he shook himself before sighing softly, feigning exasperation.
"Kiyoshi... Why are you under the table?" he questioned softly, his eyes slowly sliding over to the pile of books next to the Ampharos. "...Reading?"
