(( PRP for Brackenhide, owned by Darkmoon Dancer, and Thosi Pandryl, owned by Divena & Divenasmom )) Brackenhide was spending time out in the open. Right then and there, he was standing atop a particularly tall grassy hill in the middle of a slowly yellowing field. From where he stood with his head held up high, he could see a thick band of tan sand on the horizon that melted into the deep blue of the ocean beyond. His hair was being whipped around his face and even his scales threatened to begin to move in the chilling wind that was cutting across these fields.
His face adorned a worn-in smile, looked like he didn't know any other expression, like his lips were meant to smile at all times. And he was happy. More than happy to stand there and look at the beauty unfolded before him.
Brackenhide appreciated Mother Nature for all of the wonderful, mystical and beautiful creations that she brought into this world and kept here. Especially the ladies. The only thing that could tear him away from this majestic scene... a female. Any female would do. In fact, he loved them all. He didn't discriminate. He didn't know how! If it was female and had a pulse, damn straight he was going to pursue her!
But just then, he was satisfied with just admiring the natural scenery on the horizon.

Thosi Pandryl was bored of flying. That was why she was walking. It had nothing to do with the soreness at the base of her left wing, or the fact that the storm she'd flown through had whacked the daylights out of her. She was simply bored of flying.
After all, when she was in the air, she couldn't appreciate the scenery below. Granted, it was faster, and more freeing, but still, a girl had to stop and smell the... grass. Right. Besides, her legs needed the exercise. Her wings were strong enough, but her hooves weren't quite used to the work out. It was time to fix that.
Her wing wasn't sprained. She was just resting them. She hadn't been foolish to fly through that storm. She'd managed just fine, thank you very much.
And if this hill she was trudging her way up was just a bit too tall, well, that was just another challenge for her to conquer. She could fly over it, but that would have been the simple, easy answer. Thosi Pandryl was not one to balk at a challenge, or to take a path just because it was the easy one.
So, it was with a great deal of focus that she finally reached the top and stumbled over the Soquili standing atop the hill. Well, where had he come from?
"Where did you come from?" she snapped, irritated. Thosi Pandryl had a tendency to speak her mind.

Minding entirely his own business, Brackenhide was suddenly stumbled into. He jerked forward a half-step or two to regain his balance and composure before turning around to face the intrusion. As graciously as he could he had applied a look of confusion to his face, but when he caught full sight of what - that is who - had been the cause, the confusion instantly melted into interest with a touch of apologetic.
What he saw was a red dragon, scales reflecting the orange sun, with a sturdy pair of wings and a precise-looking whip of a tail. But those weren't the important parts. Her face was crimson, eyes of glowing yellow and that brow was poised in a very intriguing scowl. Though her fangs and impressive plumage could seem intimidating, Brackenhide didn't see anything wrong with them. He thought that they finished the painting wonderfully. He almost laughed, thinking about the males he knew that really would be intimidated by a mare like this. What did they know!
Calmly but confidently, the kirin stallion answers her question, "I've been here all along. Admiring nature's beauty, though it seems the part that was missing is now present." He offered a small smile not cocky but an attempt at soft, before quickly adding apologetically, "I didn't mean to obstruct! I could move over a few strides, I suppose."

She eyed him, taking in the frou-frou adornments, the attempt at what was probably supposed to be a charming smile, and the single sharp horn. If he wanted, he could probably be a danger. But he also didn't look like the type who would want to. Still, it wouldn't do to let her guard down. Appearances could be deceiving.
"Moving would be acceptable," she agreed to his request, holding her head a bit higher. Show no weakness, that was the key. Her wing wasn't hurt. If she wanted, she could just take to the air. He wouldn't be able to follow.

He nodded in response and moved a few -small- strides to the side to get out of her direct path. He did note however, her lifted head and something about her wing. He tilted his head a little to get a better look from where he stood at that wing, not quite knowing what he was seeing, but he knew there was something different about one of them. Was she just holding it slightly higher? Lower? Closer to her body? He couldn't quite tell, but if he were to guess he would say that she was favoring it for some reason or other. However, catching no sight of blood or wound otherwise, he left it be. Why point out one's weaknesses unnecessarily?
"Brackenhide," he bent a knee and slightly bowed his head without taking his eyes off of the mare, "...at your service, milady." He hoped that she would respond with an introduction of her own, but by the looks of her, he figured she may be a little more difficult company than that. But there was nothing wrong with that! He would work for it if he had to!

Brackenhide was correct in his assumption that she wouldn't respond with her own name. After all, he hadn't asked for it. Why should she bother giving it to him? She did, however, notice that he was eyeing her wing, which was not sprained. She resisted the urge to shift and put her less than pristine wing as far from him as she could. That would only spotlight that it may not be in the best working condition. Not that she was ready yet to acknowledge that it might be hurt. Because it wasn't. But still, there was no sense in being foolish.
"Brackenhide?" she repeated his name, scowling. "What kind of name is Brackenhide?"

Shock. Shock and surprise overtook the stallion, but he was a quick recovery, and this reaction only lasted a few moments. His brow raised and his head lifted a bit as he stood taller. He hadn't been expecting that! ...But he liked a bit of bite in a girl! It was a nice change up from the usual cooing that he received.
A half-smile, crooked if you will, came over his muzzle and he threw out some wit instead, "I'm not sure about it being a kind of name, fair maiden. But it is the name I found myself given. Perhaps my parents were... hippies or drunks." He pondered the thought a moment and then added, "I'm not sure really. But what should I call you, fierce fightress of the winds?" Perhaps addressing her as something strong would win her favor.

"Ah, well, you can hardly be blamed for your parents, I suppose," Thosi murmured, though her tone made it clear that she wanted to. However, no one got to choose their parents, and not everyone was blessed with as regal a name as she had been.
"I am Thosi Pandryl," she answered his question. "You may call me Thosi if you wish." Thosi Pandryl was, after all, a bit of a mouthful.

"It is my pleasure to meet you, Thosi Pandryl." He added with the smallest of head bows. He thought about her name for a moment and decided to ask about it, "Your name must be something special for sounding so... distinguished. Is it a family name? Or does it mean something?" He didn't mean to sound as if he was interrogating her, so he also added, "My name pales in comparison, is all. I'd like to know more about yours if you wish to share."
There, that should get the conversation going. She seemed like one that would rather talk about herself than listen to drivel about others. And so he would cater to that, as any good male should.

"Thosi is the name my mother gave me before she left," she answered, simply. "Pandryl is the name that my father gave her before he left her. I believe that it means something like dragon or some such nonsense. What of you? Does your name have any meaning? Other than attempting to sound pretentious, that is."
Alright, she was willing to admit, to herself, that she was being a smidgen snappish, but she couldn't help it. Talking of her parents always put her in a defensive mood, and being defensive put her in a bad mood. It was something of a cycle.

"Oh..." A small lapse in his upbeat manner before he managed to regain it and try to repair that lapse. "No, no meaning. Though I have searched and inquired... just a plain, rather layman name that was given me by my mother. She's a vague memory really, always about with one male or another." He laughed, "She was something different, that's for sure."
He had never known his father, not even a vague memory. As for his mother, she was a lot of giggles and hair, warmth and nuzzles, but other than that just a kind smell of home. He had never learned about commitment, probably because his mother hadn't the head for it, but she did remember to teach him how to treat a lady. And that was something he would never forget.

"Well, then. Good for you." Thosi had no idea what else to say to that. Having not known either of her parents much, she didn't have much room for the thoughts of other parents. She'd closed that door in her mind and heart a long time ago. Otherwise, it probably would have hurt, and she had no intention of letting such a thing happen to her.
She knew she should have taken a step forward. She should have left this Brackenhide in the dust and kept traveling. But for some odd reason, that felt like backing down from a challenge. Though... he hadn't really challenged her yet. In fact, he seemed rather dim witted. Still, she wasn't one to ignore her instincts.
Of course, it was his turn to ask a question.

His mother had left him at a young age, she was a long-gone memory that he usually avoided thinking about. So it took him a moment and a good shake of the head to clear his mind.
"Forgive my boring ramble. That's not like me at all." A somewhat weak smile broke through as he tried to ramp up his usual upbeat personality to where it normally stood. But she was still here, so all hope was not yet lost.
Taking a step closer, he brought the conversation back to something more at-hoof. "If I may ask... Where were you heading when I so rudely interrupted you, Thosi?"

She considered pressing the parental issue, since that was clearly a weak spot for him, but ultimately she didn't. After all, that would just open the door for her own parentage to be questioned and, like him, she choose not to think of them when she could avoid it.
At his question, she looked toward the horizon. "The beach," she answered, simply. "Isn't that much obvious? It's the only thing in this direction worth seeing."

He was glad that she didn't push the parental issue, as he really wasn't in the mood to discuss his own feelings. Especially those ones since he tried so very hard to push them as far inside of him as possible. Those were not feelings that anyone else needed to hear about. Those were his own burden to carry.
The beach! He turned to look in the direction he had been facing when the mare appeared and then back at Thosi. "Ahh, yes! Forgive me, I thought that a winged goddess might be taking to flight to make it further than the beach that the grounded can only make it to. There is little activity on the beach today. Mainly side-walking crabs and some birds." He would know, he had just been standing there staring at it for who knows how long. He liked the beach, but he knew that many mares liked the beach too... which is probably why he liked it in the first place.
