(( PRP for Betula, owned by Darkmoon Dancer, & Lian, owned by Divena )) Secrets left, right, and center. They were all over, all around, and within. Why, why, why were there so many secrets in this world? Betula didn't understand why there had to be so many, but he did however, understand why others felt the need to keep them. There were just so many Soquili with so many problems that they felt like if they were to tell of their secret, their world would fall apart. He didn't understand how one could live a life of constant fear. It just didn't make sense to him. His solution was to keep others' secrets. If asked, he relieves another's burden and allows them to share it with him, letting them feel the freedom of not being the only one who knows. And this was a hard job, a hard undertaking... but it is who he was. He wouldn't change it for the world.
He loved to know and he loved to learn new things, but he was one of those intraverted Soquili. He kept all of this to himself, and though possible, it has always been hard for any other to make it through his barrier and get to know him.
Perhaps he would one day find a mare that understood him and his ways and would walk by his side forever more, in fact there was a mare that came to mind even as he thought about this thought. Her coat of lightest to darkest greys, flowing curls, and the brightest blue eyes this world has ever seen. But that wasn't the point. For now, he still walked alone, and he did so without regret, or woe. But sometimes, it was hard to find anyone that he could talk to. Someone that understood what it was like to live an intraverted life, someone that wouldn't judge his purposeful riddance of most of his emotions.

Lian stepped carefully over roots and stones, nearly prancing with joy. The young mare was filled with excitement and curiosity. The wide world was out there, just waiting for her to explore it, and she was tackling the challenge with a vengeance. She missed the only parent she had ever known, even after having just left him. But she knew that this was a journey she had to take on her own.
At least, she assured herself, she'd get to meet a wide variety of fascinating new Soquili. She smiled to herself at the mere thought. That, more than anything else, was what had inspired her to see what the world had for her. Though, she was a touch nervous. What if the Soquili she met weren't like her uncle Pachu'a? He was the only one she'd ever known. How would she handle a different personality?
It was something to think about, and think about it she did. Right up until she decided that she would deal with that when it came. First, however, she had to find someone to strike up a conversation with.

Stuck in his thoughts, Betula had been wandering blindly until he found himself at the edge of a ravine. He looked around, only half-seeing his surroundings until he saw movement. That movement was across the ravine from him and was probably nearly twice his size, or at least as far as he could tell from this distance. He saw a white and blue Angeni prancing, dancing about gleefully, he would describe. And she looked like she was looking for something, or someone for that matter.
Betula wasn't the sort to ask questions, so he stood quietly, watching her for a few moments, but it was not meant for him to remain unseen. Without any warning, the ground beneath his cloven hooves began to give way and slide towards the bottom of the ravine. He whinnied, and began to back pedal, trying to scramble backwards and to the solid ground he had been standing on earlier.
Eyes wide, the tiny cerynei began to panic, it seemed that no matter how hard he tried, this ravine was determined to meet him, and so he slid further and further down towards the water below. 'Damn being distracted with a million thoughts at once!' he thought to himself as he skid on all fours.

A faint, panicked whinny snapped Lian out of her perky little bubble, and her head snapped to the side, toward the sound. Before her mind could fully comprehend what her eyes were seeing, she had already launched herself into the air.
Really, there wasn't much thought needed. It was clear the small Soquili was in trouble. For whatever reason, he was sliding toward the river in the ravine, when he clearly didn't want to be. She flew as quickly as she could until she dropped down behind him and started pushing against him, flapping her wings and trying to plant her feet to help.
Ah. That would be why he was sliding when he didn't want to be. Regardless how hard she tried, she couldn't get a firm foothold. She shook away the current problem and focused on getting the other Soquili to solid ground. She could worry about herself later.

He had made it a good distance toward the bottom of the ravine before the commotion of wings came close. Everything was blurry and he couldn't really make out the details of what was going on, but he could assume that the big body in front of him was the very angeni that he had seen from the top of this embankment. Having more important things to worry about than politeness and hellos he gratefully accepted her help.
Betula tried to apply the same amount of force to the angeni that she did pushing up against him, hoping that it would help him begin to move backwards. And though it took a few moments to start working, slowly but surely the duo began to move back up the incline and towards solid ground. He made sure to keep track of each of his hooves so as not to nick the angeni that was graciously helping him out, because though he knew he probably wouldn't instill much damage, he didn't want to repay her with scratches!
After what felt like forever but was probably only a few minutes at most, Betula's back legs finally got some traction. The ground was still mushy and moving but definitely more solid. And before long it finally stayed where it was. Moments later his front hooves found their own place on solid ground once more, but he continued to back up a few more good paces to allow the mare space to land too.
Tired and still a little panicked Betula not-so-graciously plopped down to catch his breath while his stubby little tail twitched angrily back and forth.

Lian stumbled a bit when the ground stopped shifting under her. Solid land! What a wonderful thing! She made a mental note not to take it for granted again as she collapsed next to the ceryni she'd been helping. Her wings flopped to either side of her limply. She'd fold them neatly in just a moment, as soon as she regained her breath.
"I'm Lian, by the way," she said, once she had caught her breath enough to speak.

His tail twitched until the mare alighted next to him. He stopped moving altogether to get a look at the mare that had just saved him from what would no doubt have been a nasty tumble. She was tall and pretty, an angeni. His breathing slowed as he calmed and he could finally catch his breath just as the mare introduced herself. He nodded politely at her and added his own, "My name is Betula." Took him a moment, but he quickly added, "Thank you, Lian." With a slight bow of the head, he closed his eyes momentarily to show his thanks. He didn't want to think about what would have happened if she didn't come by to help him when she did.
Eyes and head raised once more, he looked over the mare and his sight strayed for a few moments on her wings, taking in their power and details. Such powerful appendages, he would imagine. And he wondered what it was like to fly. He shook his head. No, he would stick to land, seeing as even that was falling out from under his feet.

"You're welcome," Lian smiled as she laid her head down, trying to get her heart rate to slow. The whole experience had been something of a terrifying rush. "I would love to say it's a pleasure to meet you, Betula, and I have a feeling it will be. However, I wish the circumstances had been a little less... heart racing. May I ask what you were even doing there?"
She was curious, wondering if he had been actually trying to accomplish something, or if he had simply been in the wrong place at the wrong time. Either way, she was incredibly glad that she had been there to help. The whole event could have turned out very much worse if she hadn't been.

A small chuckle and a sheepish grin. The first being rather a rare thing for him to share with anyone, Betula took a moment to think over what he had been doing, suddenly finding it very hard to remember anything but the blind, flailing panic. Oh yes...
"Well..." He glanced over at her and contemplated giving a completely vague answer... but eventually he just decided to go with the truth, if still a little bit vague. "... I was caught up in thoughts, and... just walking. Then I saw you below and stopped to see what you were doing. And then... well."
Quite a mouthful for he little cerynei to pour out all at once. But she deserved the truth, if only for saving his life.

"And then the ground decided to give you a scare," Lian nodded a bit, understanding how curiosity could put him in the wrong place. Of course, this meant that his near accident was, though indirectly, her fault. If she hadn't been wandering below, he wouldn't have stopped, and thus he wouldn't have been there when the ground crumbled. "Well then, I'm sorry I was there to distract you."

"Oh!" He softly exclaimed, at her taking the blame for his fall. He hadn't thought about it that way, and now that he did, he wasn't sure he really agreed with it.
"It was an accident, that's all." A soft smile to try and ease her into accepting that instead. He didn't want her to blame herself for his fall. And she had saved him, too, so as far as he saw it, there was really nothing for her to feel sorry about!

"Yes, an accident," she nodded an agreement. If he had no interest in blaming her, then she wouldn't encourage it. She didn't quite agree with him, either, but what was done was done. The point was that she had been there to help him and no harm had been done. She smiled at him to show him that, like him, she was willing to put the past behind her. Even if it just happened a few minutes ago.

Happy that she had accepted the matter as an accident, Betula is silent a few moments, trying to figure out what to say next. Rather an awkward situation they had fallen into, but he thought that he could atleast try to start up a conversation so that the mare could rest for a bit.
Clearing his throat politely, he began, "Do you rescue many cerynei from dangerous falls?" A touch of sarcasm or teasing could be found in his voice. Jokes were not his forte, but he did try every so often.

Lian laughed a bit, taking his question as a joke. "No, not very often," she admitted with an impish grin. "You're just special."
Normally, Lian would have been content to just rest in silence. After all, her Uncle Pachu'a believed that idle chatter was a waste of time, energy, and breath, and he had done his best to raise her not to pester him with such things. Of course, Lian had always liked to hear the words said aloud, especially since it wasn't always clear what her uncle was thinking. But, when it wasn't necessary, she did her best to be quiet for him.
However, at Betula's question, she took that as a sign that he was willing for some idle chatter.
"I would suggest that you avoid cliffs for awhile," she said, sagely. "They don't seem to like you much."
Okay, so she wasn't that great at idle chatter.

An impish grin of his own twitched at the edges of his lips, but he didn't really have any sort of response to her playful prod. A slight touch of red found it's way to his cheeks, but that was about it. So much for him striking up a conversation.
He glanced up at her and then turned his head to look down at the ravine below. There were several branches and logs that could have caused a decent amount of damage. He agreed that cliffs didn't like him very much, and he also thought that avoiding them, or at least giving them a wider berth and a more attentive eye, was a good idea.
