It had been the longest week of Inaari's life. Eirlyn had done the best she could to prepare her young, innocent Junior Weyrwoman for the eventuality that Ianath would glow and rise to be chased. T'ron had removed the largest barrier in this problem, though the Holder girl had massively underestimated the emotional onslaught that would come with a proddy dragon.
Inexperienced, she had perhaps made an inappropriate comment to a Weyrleader without thinking, and had since gratefully excused herself from making too much noise at the Summit. It was the worst possible time for Ianath to rise, but to the gold, it was perfect. So many dragons to choose from, all of them important, and they would have to chase her!
Oh yes, the gold was in her element.
Thankfully, Inaari had been in her own weyr, blessedly alone as she had tried to be through the past week. Too many things could go wrong when she wasn't in iron control of her own emotions, and it was absolutely the worst time for things to go wrong. Ianath had become blinding over the past day, and looking out, she was convinced that this was the day.
So it was with little surprise, and a great deal of panic, that the mid-sized gold abruptly roared and threw her body into the air, swooping down into the pens of the Weyr. Claws and teeth closed around a herdbeast, and the words echoed in her mind. Control.
'Blood only! If you are fat and cannot fly, they will not be able to see you in all your glory, my beautiful one. Show them you are the best queen, Malvren's queen!' Appealing to her vanity, her need for recognition, these were the tools to sending her wheeling into the air. Wings spread as she denied the ground and the meat her presence, flipping her tail at the collective of males.
They could catch her..if they could! None were good enough for her!

... Galvanth was blooding his kill.
...
This was neither the time nor the place for-- Galvanth, what is the meaning of this-- Oh. Of course. Of course it would have to happen while S'raid and his Bronze were at a foreign Weyr. But S'raid would not prevent his Bronze from chasing the Queen. I go! Galvanth bugled, taking off after the Gold with a great thunder of wings.
In this moment, the man was perfectly meshed with his dragon, the action instinctive, instantaneous. His preferences, his concerns were thrown out the window in the first blaze of heat, in the call that neither dragon nor rider could ignore. A Queen Rising, with Galvanth so close by? No, the opportunity could not be passed up.
His mind had been on speeches, upon the problem that they were faced with, but caution had irrevocably been thrown to the win. In this, he would be only rider, and S'raid after. You will fly well, Galvanth. You will fly high, and fast. Knowing, as he knew himself, that Galvanth needed to hear those words, he let his thought escape him, let them fly with the hulking Bronze.
He would pity, almost, any male who flew against him, but this was on place in which the pair were perfectly in agreement. Ruthlessness was occasionally necessary in a Flight, and as the Bronze beat his wings and searched out air thermals, they knew that they would do what needed to be done to give themselves the best shot.
Letting out another fierce bugle, Galvanth tore ferociously after the Queen, after Ianath, testing his own strength and skill against the Gold's greater endurance and wingspan. This was not a contest with the others, but with the Queen herself, for she would decide who caught her with her actions alone, and the brilliance that each male brought to the Flight. But, mostly, it would be her.

B'nas was smiling like a great fool, a Gold was rising, a new Weyr gold at that too. His dragon would prove that even a Benden Brown was better than their dragons combined.
Milnth on the other hand wasn't thinking logically, there was a female, rising, he had to give chase. Of course he would catch her, there would be no doubt about that at all. Milnth bugled loud and clear then dived down and started to blood his kill, he needed no restraint from B'nas he knew what he was doing perfectly well.
B'nas found himself in the crowd, his thought mixed with Milnth's as the handsome Brown leapt into the air after the fleeing gold, narrowly avoiding a collision with a Bronze.

((Repost, I rolled 100-sided dice like a derp. XD)) A Queen. A Queen was rising now - while they visited Malvren, while nearly every bronze dragon in all of Pern was at Malvren. It was immediately both the best and worst possible thing that could have happened for Pipith. The competition was huge and intense, lowering his chances significantly...but if he caught this young Queen, he would be indisputably the best. Anywhere. The small bronze bugled eagerly and launched himself into the air, taking off after the gold at top speed while his rider was left to brace himself.

"Gold a'glowing! Hearts aflame! Taste the blood, oh rider mine, and chase with me!"
All sobriety, all restraint, all thought thrown aside. Hot salty blood, his mouth watering as he tasted Brumath's kill... Forign Weyr. Forign gold. Their chances were slim but if they... but if they... Thought was too hard, he could not analyse. Just the gold leaping into the sky. Just their bugle of challenge to other males. Just their wings unfurling, their muscles throwing themselves into the sky. So many other males, all around, and one half of them had thought something about that until a few moments ago... Had worried? No. Resigned, had been sure that... that...
No. No thought. Waste of effort. Everything for the chase. Everything.

(( OOC NOTE: Was told to keep this moving at a few hours' pace if we got a lull. Anyone who signed up can still join and roll, but you are officially late to the chase. :3 ))
First in the air was one of the larger bronzes, but Ianath paid him no mind as she tore away in the beginnings of her energy. He would have to fly harder and fly faster to catch her, and Inaari's laughter echoing through the weyr as the presence of men intruded on the communion with her rider. "Faster, faster!" It was almost better than flying, every inch of her skin alive and aching as if it were glowing itself!
The laugh was short-lived as a wing brushed the gold's, her bugle of surprise almost a curious little sound. Was that a brown?! A brown was trying to catch her, and was close? Oh, the indignity of it! This was not the prince that Ianath sought, and she spun away in a tight roll to throw him off.
Inexperience was taking its toll, however, as this put her within the clutches of bronze Pipith. "No! Get away!" A human foot stomped with the dragon's indignity as Ianath dived and looped with all the grace and fury of a challenging gold on a mating flight. She wouldn't be easily caught!
She must be the pride of Malvren!

The insolence of the young Queen was no surprise to Galvanth, who was used to Golds and their ways. In ignoring him, she opened herself up to his pursuit... or so he hoped. Could he be blamed for wishing to prove himself, and to show this Queen what a Benden Bronze was made of? Of course not. Tied intrinsically together by bonds that could not be broken in this moment, S'raid-and-Galvanth chased the Queen together, using their greater (than the other males, surely!) wingspan to their advantage as they sought out a heat thermal.
She was young and inexperienced, but he was canny, and inclined to ignore her foolishness in favor of narrowing the gap if he could. His answering bugle told all that needed to be known: that he was watching, that he was waiting for her to give him the opportunity he needed. S'raid-as-Galvanth would look for that very opening, whatever his more violent impulses might be. It was tempting to taunt the others, but no, no effort was to be wasted.

Milnth roared, he had almost caught the Gold but she had spun away, rolling out of his claws, Diving after her he saw that a very small bronze also almost caught her. His eyes whirled as his wings beat strongly, trying to work out a way of catching her, she would be HIS this day, Milnth was determined now that his competetive side was being drawn out.

I have to catch up! Gimaeth bugled, frustrated as he threw himself belatedly into the chase. The immediate pursuit given by other dragons had darkened the air, and C'iden and Gimaeth both had, although caught up in the moment, been afraid of collision. Now though the dramatically striped pale brown flung himself into the air to give chase, determined that, even if he couldn't catch the beautiful young queen, he would give the best showing he possibly could.
Fly for all you're worth! C'iden encouraged him, craning on his tip toes to watch the pursuit as Gimaeth struggled to join in the chase. He was certain it was absolutely no coincidence that so many fine dragons were here at this time, but for once he found absolutely nothing he could really argue with in the conspiracy. After all, how many would willingly pass by the chance to chase a Gold

A brown? Pipith's disdain - really, the only dragons who had any business chasing a Queen were bronzes - was only momentary, as he had other things to focus on, because he too came close for an instant. But the gold dived away, forcing him to drop quickly in his pursuit. That other bronze might be bigger, but he was more agile.

She slipped away! Others ahead. Younger, or larger, or both, but not as clever as brown Brumath. As he changed course to race after the young queen once more. She would be his! Larger, or younger, or both, but not as experienced. Never had he caught a queen, here today were so many of Pern's great males, yet he would chase. She would be his. He was not giving up yet.

Capeth surged after the knot of bronze and brown ahead of him in the air. They were not why he was here. Ianath - there she was - glowing golden, beautiful, most desirable of all. He would chase, and he would prove himself; prove that even a Malvren brown could outfly all the others in the sky, win the queen.
L'tan shoved into the room, far below and behind; his eyes and mind were elsewhere, Capeth sweeping up his sight and thought and emotion.

(( *curses being on the opposite side of the world* X'D I will post as often as I can, lol. ))
A queen rises. It was a simply stated fact, but a meaningful one nonetheless.
I can see that, S'ren replied, hearing the cries of the gold and the pursing dragons. But there was something different about the way his brown said it, an sort of intensity and longing that he could feel within him from his partner. You wish to chase? He had never seen the other interested in attempting a queen's flight before, but perhaps with all of the other Weyrs present his competitive side had been stoked.
Yes.
Well then you had better fly quickly to catch up.
That was all the encouragement that the brown needed before he too leapt skyward to join into the fray. He may have been behind, but he would do his best to catch up quickly.
