You know how the captain of cruise ships can marry people? Could the same thing apply to pirate ships? Could Luffy marry someone?
(And if so, how ridiculous would that wedding ceremony end up being, knowing Luffy? XD)

As hilarious as that would be, I'd hate to shoot down your dreams ahah
Pirates couldn't legally get married, so they couldn't marry people themselves either. Since they're outlaws and marriage is a lawful binding, they're out of the equation.

Lol well if you're talking about the OP world, then it makes sense for the shichibukai to be able to get married since they're working with the government. For other pirates though I imagine it'd be illegal, aaaand they're just arrest them instead haha.

I kind of didn't consider the fact that they're fugitives when I thought of the question originally, but you've got a point. Then again, the law doesn't need to recognize a pirate marriage, now does it? wink
But what I meant was--if you're getting married on a cruise ship or some other kind of boat, the captain in charge of the crew of that boat can marry you, if a priest is unavailable. Would it work the same way on a pirate ship? Like, hypothetically, if Usopp and Nami somehow decided to get married, could Luffy marry them, technically? Or would they have to find a priest (that isn't afraid of trouble from the Marines for marrying pirates)?
(You can see I'm spending way too much time thinking about this. XD)

Lol now you're making ME spend too much time thinking about this! xD
Buuut I don't think the captain of a pirate ship has the same rights/privileges as the captain of a cruise ship does. Since, you know, captains on cruise ships are actually paid, and legit, and LEGAL xD And even if a priest wasn't afraid of having his a** thrown in jail, if he married two pirates and word got out the government back then probably would have just nullified it after arresting the priest.

they get married by pirate priests in pirate chapels and its called a pirate--
wait, does that mean Usopp's mom and Yasopp didn't get married? Because Yasopp was a pirate long before Usopp was born.
THIS TOPIC IS NOW ABOUT USOPP'S INNER CONFLICT AND TURMOIL OF HIS LIFE AS A b*****d

Actually, if you are qualified to marry two people together, I don't think they can just take that away. Sorta like being a judge. And plus, I also don't think that anyone aside from the married couple can nullify their marriage.
Now I'm really interested in this...I can't find anything online though.

Actually Ora, you have a point... so I guess if a priest did go through with it, then it wouldn't be nullified. BUT, you DO have to register to get married, which means the government could find out really easily and show up, intervene, and arrest everyone before the marriage even takes places. So I guess they could, it's just not likely considering pirates are kind of wanted.

Puh-lease. If there were wedding, I'm sure they used fake names for the legal documents, and held their weddings in inconspiculous places.

I really don't think that pirates would want to be married...I mean They had like a dozens of women at their side at most times anyway. lol..So basically pirates were like the first pimps ever! mrgreen

The in real life Blackbeard (Edward Teach) was legally married while he was a pirate, had papers and everything. And besides, back in the pioneer days who went out west of America, they just said they were married and that would be that. I think the same case would be for pirates because they don't live in an established civilization. So technically speaking in legal terms, many pioneers were not married, and technically had b*****d children.
