Sofiel and Sonnet.

----------------------------

User Image

Sofiel was enjoying some time in his small flutter form drinking the early morning dew off several flowers. He loved being this small, most simply ignored him or failed to notice him -more fool them, but he wasn't going to argue. Ever since he had taken the blame to protect his herd he had been in hiding and finding his pleasure in the smallest of things... dew drops for one.

The activities mere days ago with the Miakoda herd left him feeling slightly restless, part of him had been impressed how the herd had held its own. He especially appreciated the command of Maion, a dear old student who Sofiel was sure knew many tricks that his master didn't, that didn't mean Sofiel didn't have a few tricks of his own.

In particular Sofiel had seen potental in a young stallion by the name of Sonnet, Maion had spoken highly about him which suprised Sofiel since he knew that Maion feared that Chandra was in love with him... for Maion Chandra would likely always be his little girl, and little girls didn't find love. Sofiel never saw Chandra and Sonnet together to know for sure.

Strange how the insident still bugged him, the fact that skinwalkers had been brave enough to attack a much larger herd didn't bode well, Maion had insisted he would deal with it but Sofiel wanted to aid in some way.... but how?

Sonnet was pacing again, he had been pacing since he landed an hour ago. Before that he had been doing much the same thing but in the forest at the foothills of the mountains, pacing and thinking, talking to himself, though this was something he was trying very hard to stop. But even now he would catch himself talking to no one but himself and the trees and that's how it was going at the moment.

"There has to be someone..." Frowning at his hooves as he paced, unaware of everything around him, seeming to only turn because his nose would brush or bump into something. Stopping this time when his nose found a tree trunk and sighing the wings on his head drooping in defeat. "The only person I know that can fight is Maion and I really don't want to ask him for more lessons...." Liking Maion but he had already asked so much of him, not to mention that Maion seemed to be getting more grumpy about him and Chan. He didn't have much of a clue about it beyond that his own dad was the same with his sister.

Turning then, he paced in another direction, he missed Chan when they were apart, but they could fly now so he saw less of her and he seemed to get the impression Maion liked it that way. Rearing with a frustrated cry, his hooves striking an old dread tree carcas and knocking it flat. "Where can I learn to fight!?" Stomping the rotting wood to splinters. "I cant protect anyone..." Stood after the outburst of frustrated violence on the old tree. Head hanging feeling hopeless, just wanting to be able to protect the people he loved, his family... Chan... what good was he to them now?...

Instinct took over Sofiel as he heard a half familar voice, his ears twitched and he turned to spy the young Angenicorn that had been present when the skinwalkers had attacked. Sonnet.

Despite the fact Sofiel usually found it extremely rude to easedrop on the conversations of others, even if they where to themselves or to others he found himself curious. Usually he would have revealed himself somehow, rustle the leaves, shift back to his large size or talk -in his small form he found his voice came across squeeky, and he was forced to shout for it to be heard by others who where at any sort of distance.

Sofiel didn't like to shout. It was a pointless waste of energy.

Instead he watched and listened, and what he heard interested him. It seemed this stallion wanted to protect those he cared for, and after his aid, even if it was more for numbers than skill, deserved to get his wish. He wanted to fight, Sofiel could teach him. Sofiel had taught both Maion and Sengdroma of the Miakoda herd, but they had not been his first students nor they would be his last. Sofiel was a skilled ninja, and had been very close to taking over his clan before the allegations of breaking the sacred treaty were thrown, the old head was too weak to take the punishment that would follow although it had been his orders that sent Sofiel to slay the heir of their rival clan, the only problem was that he couldn't bring himself to kill the woman. In all his years he had never killed one, yes he had trained them just as hard as the men -but that was different, for their own protection, plus they had entered into their arrangement knowing what would happen. But killing an innocent woman.... he could not do it, especially one as beautiful as Sachiko.

Yes, Sofiel understood forbidden love, and for his inability to kill he would forever be labled a traitor.

Deciding he had heard enough Sofiel found cover and regrew to his original form. It took a lot of concentration, a flow of chakara, and for a moment Sofiel was always left feeling vunderable. Just as quickly as it started it ended, and hidden between the trees was now the full form of the fluttercorn, he was much smaller than most stallions but that was simply just to genes.... size didn't always matter in a fight, infact being small had given him the advantage on more than one occasion.

Stepping into the path of the other soquili he stood tall, and for a moment said nothing but took in his looks. He seemed like an elegant creature, a fine layer of muscles that had yet to be honed in to their potential. Sofiel could work with this creature. He could make him a warrior, a protector... he had done it before.

"Come," was all he said as he stared at Sonnet for a moment before turning to lead him to a clearing near by, they would need space. Sofiel never turned to check that Sonnet was following.
PostPosted: Sun Nov 14, 2010 6:09 am

Sonnet found himself blinking dumly at the fluttercorn that had kind of appeared out of no where and said one word before starting off somewhere else. Come.... That's all he had said... Two things hit Sonnet at once, firstly he realised he had been talking to himself again and his cheeks promptly went a deep pinkish purple as did the white end of his nose. And secondly he realised he vaguely recognised the flutter... Behind these two realisations he also realised he was going to loose him and so started forward, a little numb and confused but blindly following the command.

Soon catching up enough to have the flutter back in view, following him from the trees into a large clearing. Looking around, they were still flanked on all sides by trees but there was a good size area of clear ground. Wondering why they were here as he looked around, then again he had no idea if this was their stop. Catching up to the flutter some more and looking at him, deciding to try and be polite. "I know I've seen you before, I remember you from Chan's family's lands... But I don't think I know your name." He was usually good with names, but then he had met several people that day and not known what most of them were called.

Sofiel was pleased that the stallion had followed, pleased still that no words had been exhanged during their work to the clearing. It wasn't that Sofiel was silent, he just didn't speak often and prefered the silence to idle chatter. Yet, more importantly than any of that was the fact that the young stallion had trusted him enough to follow. In many ways Sofiel considered it slightly foolish, following someone blindly without knowing much about them... what if Sofiel had been leading the stallion into harm? Or worst? Of course that caution was likely disrupted by the fact they had met before, whether Sonnet remembered or not.

Finally reaching the destination he turned to face his new student, he watched how he held himself, the slight tug of his wings as he took each step, the way the muscle patterns rippled beniethe the surface.

Again he remained silent for a while, simply watching Sonnet as he disgested his question. The poor stallion must have been overwhelmed that day, the first time he had probably faced such beasts and seen such actions... but still, he held himself proudly and that impressed Sofiel, a stallion who was not easily impressed.

Eventually Sofiel spoke, "We have met before Sonnet. I am Sofiel, I was once mentor to Chandra's mother and father, Maion and I are good friends." The only reason Sofiel had said that much was to try and comfort the stallion, afterall if Sofiel had his way he would whip the boy into shape and give him his wish... he wanted to protect those he loves? Then he would start today!

He circled the stallion, once again simply observing everything. Then he stood before him again, eyes full of focus and seriousness as he spoke two little words. "Attack me!" Sofiel prepared himself, hoping he would not need to repeat his instruction and explain why he had invited Sonnet here with him. It wasn't every day after all that you where caught speaking to yourself and overheard by someone who was willing to come to your aid.

Sonnet's jaw about hit the ground at the next command that the flutter had uttered, going from unsure to outright nervous, his head wings giving him away as they fold tight to his head, his weight shifting it not having dawned quite yet that he was getting his wish. But of the things he knew, he knew the flutter was able to hold his own, as he hadn't come off the worse when the skinwalkers had attacked, and he doubted that the flutter meant him any hard despite his crazy request. So given that he was not prone to questioning his elders and the fact that this guy made him about as jumpy as Maion... Even after all those flying lessons Maion still made him jumpy, then again Maion said he did... That was how the lessons went, and if this guy had taught Maion it was probably where the dark stallion had gotten the trait....

Stopping his shifting having processed all that in moments though it felt longer, wings folded tight as he lowered his head, he had a horn for a weapon so attack he would. Not charging right in, able to see the flaw in that idea right away. Taking a couple of bounds closer, then to the side, trying to get in close and away from the flutters horn... Taking a chance at a jab to Sofiel's shoulder when he thought he was close enough, though he never made contact, he was cringing away as he attacked, not comfortable with the idea of injuring someone that had not done anything to him... Well beyond surprise him and maybe be a little bossy.

]Sofiel didn't move, again he just watched and listened to the stallions every move. He could almost hear the dialogue going on in his head.... wondering if Sofiel had gone mad, wondering if he should be doing this, wondering how he should do this, wondering if he could hit Sofiel or not? Perhaps he should have given more information but that had never been Sofiel's way. No, jump in blind and figure it out had always worked much better, only then could he assess the true resorucefullness of another.

Sofiel would have been able to take any hit Sonnet had thrown his way, and would have done so gladly... but as the other stallion made his move Sofiel knew he would not be hit... close perhaps but no contact. He needed to do something about that.

Impressed slightly that Sonnet had not gone for the head on assault but instead had attempt to suprise Sofiel despite them being face to face and aware of the others present.... but he had not stuck him, and that meant Sofiel could not gage his raw strength.

Needing to know what he was working with Sofiel let out a growl in an attempt to appear more intimidating.... perhaps if Sonnet saw him as more of a threat than a companion he would try harder? Each student needed different motivation.... the key was finding it. Sengdroma's had been to a driving need to outshine Maion, to prove she could be stronger than him despite her ordinary appearance and make him regret leaving her -perhaps if she had known the truth she now knew her motivation would have been different? Maion's had been a need for vengence, he wanted to slaughter all those of a despicable race who had dared steal his mother away from him as a foal; yes Maion's hatred of Skinwalkers was more than his Angeni repulsion towards them.

He turned to his latest student attempting to figure him out. He nodded his head as a silent approval of his style of attack.... though that was merely a distraction while Sofiel flicked his tail towards Sonnet so that when it stuck the stallion would hopeful look towards it and give Sofiel a window to attack. The plan forming and racing in Sofiel's mind was to knock Sonnet off his feet, teach him that he needed to take Sofiel seriously!

----------------------------------------------
Feel free to do whatever you want to Sofiel! XD

1- Managing to distract Sonnet, Sofiel swiftly turns towards the other stallion and headbutts him hard.
2- Having distracted Sonnet, Sofiel roars as he turns his rump towards the other stallion in an effort to force him off balance.
3- Sonnet distracted, Sofiel jumps away from him and calls "Again! And this time strike me!"

Sonnet had looked at the tail as it hit him, having been somewhat surprised by the raw and the slap even more so by the impact of Sofiel's rear that sent him staggering sideways. He still wasn't totally sure on his feet but he was no longer as easy to push over (or fall over) as he had been when he was a foal. He had grown from all long un-coordinated limbs to a muscular youth. As he had grown he had grown his legs had not seemed so long and unruly any more, he had gotten bigger and learning to fly had taught him to be more aware of all of himself, now he just needed to finish the last little bit of growing and feel more confident in himself and his abilities, and that was why he wanted to learn to protect, he couldn't be confident when he was next to useless to the people he loved.

That in mind he got his feet back in order, having staggered quite a way. He starts to walk in a loop round so that he was facing Sofiel again though now they had more distance between them. Shifting his weight as he put his head down and broke into a run, going from still to gallop he was going to be near to full speed by the time he reached the flutter. But his eyes were on him, not lowered to brandish his horn better, he was going to give Soufiel a taste of his own medicine, he wanted to be attacked and so he would be, Sonnet was in a charge to ram the flutter, and if it went right there would be no punches pulled.

************Rolling**************

1 - Sonnet stumbles at the last minute and crashes into Sofiel
2 - Sonnet's aim is a little off and rams into Sofiel's chest instead
3 - it all goes right and Sonnet rams into Sofiel's shoulder at full force.

Sofiel was instantly more impressed with the boy's actions this time, the determind glint to show Sofiel what he was truely made of was a curious change from the usually gentle soquili. Curious....!

Sofiel stood his ground, watching as the boy stumbled slightly but managed to keep himself upright. "Good." It was the only compliment Sofiel gave, understanding the boy didn't need more right now. The fact that he had not lost control showed Sofiel that Sonnet was aware of his own form, knew most of its strengths and weakness, and although there was much he could do to aid the boy increase his natural talents it was a good workable start.

As Sonnet approached for his second attack, this time more determind and appearing as if he was actually going to strike, Sofiel forced himself to stand still. His natural instinct was screaming at him to jump aside, to escape harm but the whole point of having him attack was to see what Sonnet was made of, and how hard he struck was all part of the initial package.

Sofiel watched as the boy stumbled, his eye contact breaking for the first time as his front hooves collasped under him, Sofiel knew exactly what was going to happen next.... collision... with him! He didn't have enough time to move and so took the hit, bending his knees ever so slightly to absorb some of the otherwise dead blow.

The hit forced his knees to bend more but his body took the impact, cancelling out the hit and reducing it to nothing. The area that the stallion had hit stung and he was sure he would have a Sonnet shaped bruise in the morning to accompany the scratch from the boys horn that now gleamed red with blood across his leg. Not bad... for a stumble.

Enough games though. Sofiel took a single step back and watched the boy for a moment before finally saying. "Task one... find us some food. Task two... find me!" Again that was all the warning he gave before he shrunk to his tiny form, floated around Sonnets head for a few moments before heading for the tree line.

While tiny Sofiel knew it would be harder for Sonnet to find him, he would have to rely on his other sences.... smell, hearing maybe even touch. Of course first he would have to find food.... merely a distraction, and an excuse for Sofiel to observe Sonnet using his sences..... how would he find the food in an area he had never visited? Well, soon Sofiel would know.

Sonnet lifted his head, surprised they weren't both in a painful heap on the ground, but his shoulder hurt and was sure that Sofiel was probably sore too from the crash. Seeing the blood from the scratch on the other male, guilt washing over him, it clear on his always expressive face. Opening his mouth to apologuise when more orders were issued, find food and him... find him?! Blinking again surprised as the stallion was now tiny and buzzing round his head, trying to follow him with his eyes, never having known a flutter before, at least not one that had ever changed size. Grinning like a fool for a moment, not because tiny Sofiel was cute... (though he was) But because seeing something like that was enchanting to Sonnet, he had magic of his own but had no idea how to use it. That was the only thing that made him angry about his mother having left him and his sister, they had missed out on learning to fly and use their horns from her, as it was he had no idea if his sister could use her horn but he had never had any luck with his.

"Food..." Looking around once Sofiel was gone thinking things through. "Food for two.... I need a bag..." Not having the sling type bag that his family used for food gathering, but he could keep an eye out for some cloth while he looked for food. And with that he started walking round the clearing inspecting the trees and sniffing, clearly looking for something. Food gathering had been his chore since being small so he was quite good at it, though he usually knew the area he gathered in. But he knew the signs by now, and so when he found a tree and the right smell he headed into the forest again. Pausing by a bush with red berries at one point, nipping one and spitting it out, knowing enough to check what you find first especially if you aren't sure of it. Now and then he would scratch at a tree with his horn, not wanting to find himself going circles. His eyes and nose doing a lot of the work though his ears kept moving there might be preditors out there.

Sofiel watched with interest as the younger stallion made his way, it was clear that he had a plan in mind, was making use of all his strengths but at the same time was trying not to let his guard down. Good, good, good.

Staying in his small form was sometimes a challange, it took a lot of effort and energy to maintain but Sofiel had had years of practise, and his stamina was greater than the average soquili. If Sofiel had been given the task he would have shifted to his smaller form as his sence of smell was more intune with nature, then he would have located the source -similar to Sonnet- before shifting back and collecting them, because the task required food for two and a seeking of the mentor, Sonnet needed to find something that he could carry them back with. The forest was full of natural beauty, and Sofiel had faith that his newest pupil would find something... a leaf or something similar would do the job, the question was... how long would it take him to figure it out?

Staying hidden Sofiel continued to observe.

Sonnet had been picking random bits up as he came across them, no food yet though he had found some trees that had fruit, but he had made some marks to remind him where those places had been. Having found and tucked by his wings on his back, a large piece of old bark, some large leaves and two bits of branch. Seeming rather pleased when he found some vines. Taking his treasure off of his back and proceeding to pull down some of the vines.

Measuring out one of the vines and biting it off at a certain length, pulling a face, the vines bitter and bad tasting but not harmful. Cutting at the other vine with the sharp tip of his horn, wanting the more plyable fibers inside the plant. Having found a few uses for the hours spent with his dad learning all those annoying and fiddly knots, not as good at them as his dad, though the older stallion had years more practice at them, but for this Sonnet knew he could do these knots well. So bit at a time he started binding things together, starting with the branches, making them into a vague basket shape, then fastening the long bit of vine to them, having spent a while fiddling with the ends of the vines so it was secured well enough to take weight. Then lining it with the bark and some leaves to protect the fruit. Ducking his head and working the vine handle down his neck, the basket sitting against his chest, big enough to hold food for two.

The whole process having looked fiddly though it hadn't taken him as long as it might have done another who attempted it, and the fact the knots were tight and clean showed he had some practice with them. Trotting back off to go to where he had found the trees with fruit. All the fiddling with the bad tasting vines making him need to get the taste from his mouth, having used a mix of things to make the nots, though the key seemed to be a strand of his hair that he had looped enough so that it could be pulled through the knots, a task that his hooves had no real ability for.

Sofiel had watched silently, perched on a branch so that his littles could take a break while the younger stallion worked. It seemed that Sonnet had done this before, Sofiel would never have bothered with such a thing, a giant leave with the edges brought up so he could carry it in his mouth would have surficed for him. Yet, he was impressed with all the knots and patience that Sonnet showed in making his little basket.

Resourceful -check
Imaginative -check

It seemed the young stallion was off to a good start as far as Sofiel was concerned.

As Sonnet made to move Sofiel siftly took flight again, hiding behind the tree had been perched on moments before as he listened and waited for Sonnet to move on, staying hidden as a small flutter was usually not difficult but he didn't want to give Sonnet an advantage in learning his patterns and noises. Every flutter made a distinctive sound, the way their breath came or the way their wings fluttered with the speed needed to keep them in flight.

When Sonnet made his way to search again Sofiel followed, moving to a higher position so that he was almost above Sonnet but covered by the canopy of the forest and the branches that where much thicker than his tiny body.

Sofiel had been right, this stallion was full of great potiential... and as Sofiel watched him he knew that he was destined to do great things. He wondered if the world would even know what had hit it?

Once he had his basket, it didn't take him long to gather a large amount of fruit, having marked where he found the food while looking for the bits to make the basket. Though before he started gathering the food he munched on one of the smaller apples looking relieved that the smaller more bitter fruit had taken away the terrible taste of the vines. Once he was done with the small apple he proceeded to gather some of them into the basket. And soon the basket was filled with a couple of small branches laden with blackberries, several large ripe apples, even a few carrots that he had found growing wild.

Stopping when he had a basket full, that was more than enough for 2 of them. Stopping as he looked round assessing things and thinking. "How to find a flutter... Might help if I knew anything about them..." Hits tone good natured as he thinks, having only met one flutter as a foal and she had asked him to take her flying, so he guessed that there was something wrong that made it so she couldn't fly, or shrink, one or both... Either way it wasn't relevant, the day wasn't going to last much longer and he had a tiny flutter to find. Thinking hard trying to dredge up anything he knew about flutters that might help, the staying still making it easier to hear things, so maybe now he might pick up on Sofiel's noise if he moved.

Looking around, there was a lack of flowers at this time of year, tilting his head back, the brown leaves made it hard to see the flutter that would blend perfectly in with said leaves. "Hmmm..."
