Charity events were incredibly common this time of year, and it seemed this year was no exception. In fact, in light of the recent chaos that had hit Destiny City there were more than one person could possibly handle. And so Jason Perses, Adira's father, had asked his daughter if she could show face at several of the overlapping events. She'd felt bad denying him previously, so when the chance came up to do something in town Adira simply couldn't say no.
So she found herself in a modest but tasteful room in someones home, dressed in the tradition black cocktail dress greeting business acquaintances of her father's. It was mundane, after a while, even for a practiced socialite. Her smile felt like it was going to fall off. Sighing to herself, Adira found a moment to slip outside onto the balcony. The air was cold, but nothing she couldn't handle. In fact, it felt refreshing to get away from the heat and hypocrisy of the party. Though, being inside at a nice mundane party felt better to her tonight than patrolling in the cold. Adira's intense eyes turned up towards the heavens to gaze at stars. She could wait a few minutes before she returning to her place as smiling sociable daughter.

He'd come to the party as a favor to his mother, but in truth it was to keep her from making a fool of herself. These days he swore she was more prone to it than EVER before. He talked to people he didn't know, was polite about things he had no interest in, and smiled though he didn't mean it. But soon enough he just needed air... Let her grab too much Champaign ... let her laugh too loud and too long at things that weren't funny at all... just let him outside.
He slipped out into the cool air and took a relieved breath before starting, dissatisfaction rippling through him as he realized...there was someone already there.
"I'm sorry...I didn't realize there was someone here already." He said, polite of course, and he meant it...

Adira turned at the sound of the balcony door opening, hoping it wasn't some eager partygoer trying to get her to come back inside. The short stature confused her, but he didn't seem to be ushering her away from her balcony spot.
When she actually got a look at him though, she paused. Something about the boy struck a cord in her head, something familiar at the back of her mind. As much as she was excellent at remembering names and faces, who this boy reminded her of would not stick. "It's alright, the balcony is certainly big enough for two." Adira smiled at the boy. "My name is Adira, Adira Perses. Pleased to meet you." She was in full on party mode, afterall.

He paused for a heartbeat before saying anything in reply, as though unsure... Something about her rang familiar but he couldn't for the life of him think where he might have met anyone quite like her. "Zac, Zac Bantock" he said as formal as he could though he knew the family name carried little if ANY clout, this was an event they had been fortunate to be invited to attend...her last name seemed terribly familiar though, but just for the moment he couldn't quite place it.
On a whim he reached gently for her hand and took it with a small bow as though he might kiss it, though he did not.

Adira was a bit shocked at his boldness, but nevertheless let her hand be pulled forward. Out of courtesy to his bow, she dipped into a practiced curtsy as well. "Well Zac Bantock, it is a pleasure." The gesture was strange, but not unwelcome. Certainly more welcome than any of the other gestures she'd received by some of the more drunk patrons.
The girl retrieved her hand gently after the exchange had happened, once again turning partly to the view of the sky and Destiny City beneath it. "So what brings you to the party tonight?" He didn't exactly look like the type that frequented social gatherings like this, and as far as she could remember, Adira hadn't met him before.

"I'm here with family..." He admitted and waved a hand towards the inside where he heard the first familiar overloud cackle from his mother and winced slightly. At least she probably wouldn't start sobbing about his father, it was a business meeting of sorts after all. "And you?" He added searching her face... there was something so very...
And then it clicked. He thought his heart might have stopped in his chest and he prayed it didn't show over much in his face because he knew EXACTLY where he had seen her before...only that time he'd been in Uniform...

"I'm here at the request of family." Not with them though, unfortunately. Adira always found parties more enjoyable when with her father. To a lesser extent with her mother, however, because her mother was meddlesome and liked to play matchmaker. "But mostly for business reasons." The overloud laugh made her pause- it seemed someone was having a little too much to drink. Which meant they probably had a lot to drink, considering most of what was served had been wine and champaign, not hard liquor.
Adira had turned her gaze on the boy only to see a rather strange look pass over his face. She couldn't place the emotion though, which made it all the stranger. "Are you alright?" She tilted her head quizzically at him.

"Just.... realizing where I'd heard your name before" He said glancing down at his shoes as though utterly embarrassed at his previous boldness. "I, believe your father own's the company my mother works for, or might as well." He dipped his head at the word Mother as well, as though that too were some bother.

Turning completely away from the view behind her, Adira leaned against the railing. She had to smile, seeing how he looked so embarrassed. "Its very possible, then. My father doesn't necessarily own anything to himself, but he is on the board and oversee's several companies." He had a hand in most everything the company did, but he specialized in international affairs and relations. It explained, at least, why Adira was so well traveled.
One of the attendee's of the party shut the sliding door, upset with the draft apparently. It reduced the background noise significantly, and you could hear some of the city sounds below. "But I don't wish to sound pretentious. Do you live in Destiny City? You look familiar, but I don't think we've ever met." Maybe, perhaps, she was getting the feeling of familiarity because Adira had seen him in the background somewhere? It was a viable option.

He tensed slightly at her words but tried to remain calm, she could NOT recognize him, if he hadn't known Scheelite was Demy there was no way she could know he was the same person she'd hauled out of the alley. "I do... I'd be surprised if it was actually me that you remembered though I'm afraid, I am far from a 'socialite', preferring books and chessboards to people for the most part.

"Ah, your lucky then. I'd prefer to be reading most of the time, but, well family duties and all." Her eyes were still locked on his face, as if trying to figure something out. With a sigh, she broke eye contact and shrugged. "Sorry for the intrusion, then. You just remind me of someone, but I can't place it. I thought maybe, perhaps, I'd seen you somewhere."
Adira couldn't necessarily say that she didn't like her status as a socialite, but sometimes it was more tedious than a simple party. Even family interactions were formal. Cards and gifts were sent through secretaries, tea time and light chatter were about as personal as it got. In being a socialite, Adira had lost out on close family interactions. Growing up, she had talk to the house staff for advice about personal problems rather than her own mother.

"Hardly an intrusion?" He said turning slightly pink but could clearly not tell her she was right. "If you did see me, I must have had my head in a book, I hope I'd remember such... " He stopped himself glanced out into the evening. "That is, I have a good memory for faces normally."

"I do as well, its why I felt compelled to ask." Adira tried to put it out of her mind, for the time being. It was unbelievable frustrating to have the answer dance away from her fingertips when she wasn't even close to remembering. To be honest, she'd never had this much trouble recalling a face before. But perhaps he was correct, and she had just seen him at some coffee shop or in the library (though, she didn't frequent the library as much since her unfortunate book shelf run-in).
"So, since you live here, I'm going to go out on a limb and assume you go to school here as well?" After all, this was a party. Small talk was mandatory.

He paused and nodded but there was a hesitance there. "Yes... but I think you will be less than impressed as to where I'm afraid." He offered a humorless grin. His school's reputation he was sure proceeded it as a grounds for troublemakers.

"Ah, Hillworth then, I presume?" It was the natural assumption based on how he'd described it. Hillworth wasn't all bad, however, it seemed. Whatever had landed Zac in its halls clearly wasn't (hopefully) truly reflective of his personality. Either way, Adira preferred not to judge based on thing like school alone.
Everyone makes mistakes, afterall. Hell, if her father knew what she was up to most nights he would probably try to enroll her in some kind of boarding school oversea's. Or get her mental help. Or both. The thought made her a bit sad, but it couldn't really be helped. "Well, either way. You're here now, and I find you much more enjoyable company than most of the people I was talking to inside. Will you stay and chat for a while, if its not too much of an imposition?"
