"Elleryyy!! We shouldn't be out here! 'Specially not on Halloween; my Daddy says it's dangerous!!" Echo squeaked out nervously as he hurried behind his friends, eyes darting all around in fright. Unlike Ellery, Echo hadn't grown up on the streets -however short both their lives had been thus far- and was much more nervous than Ellery seemed to be. The further the both of them got to the edge of town, the more the buildings thinned out. In the distance, it seemed that there was nothing but a horribly barren desert filled with nothing but road and dirt. However, a few miles before that, there was a stretch of trees that had been cleared out to the edges of the road.
How far they reached away from it remained to be seen.
And that was what Ellery was keen on finding out.
As a band of rogue teenagers zipped past suddenly, cackling and cavorting, Echo squealed in both terror and surprise, dropping to his knees and letting his dark violet cape fall over his chubby frame. Meekly, he peeked his head out from beneath it, looking awkward and afraid before he pulled himself slowly to his feet against, his entire body trembling violently. "Ellery, please...? I wan'na go home..."

But Ellery shared none of Echo's fears. Having been more-or-less turned loose, he intended to make this magical night of mischief one to remember, and so was deaf to Echo's cries, only edging him onward. The confident faun scoffed and rolled his eyes as Echo cried, and reached back only to grab his hand and drag him onward. "Dun worry, Echo, ev'rythin's fine. I've already ben out here once 'r twice, 'nd youw daddy finks th't ev'rthin's danger'us 'n' you shouldn't do nuffin'." Logical argument made, the boy pressed on, eyes set on the copse of trees in his line of sight.
Despite his courage (and arguable foolishness), Ellery was still a child, and so was frightened just as Echo was when the howling teenagers darted near them, shouting up a storm. He yelped and fell to his knees, chest heaving as he looked at the band of hooligans. Instead of shrinking away and crying however, the small child only grew indignant, and he raised himself up, puffing his chest angrily. "Stupidheads!" he yelled after them, and then helped Echo up with a hand, muttering bitterly under his breath. "Stupids, knockin' kids over 'n' scarin' Echo 'n' yellin'... Dunchoo worry, Echo, I'm gonna get 'em good, you watch."
Grinning like the devil he was dressed as, Ellery made a great show of lining up his shot towards the teenagers, although in actuality he had next-to-no control over his ability. He gestured for Echo to come closer, locking their hands. "You gotta stay here wif me so you dun get knock'd over. My daddy said dat's how earfquakes work." The boy drew in a deep breath, and then firmly stomped one hoof on the ground, green eyes glowing with sadistic eagerness as he waited to watch the stupid loud kids fall over and get hurt.
But it all went wrong. First of all, the sound was not the typical rumbly noise, but a great and gigantic CRACK! that made Ellery gasp. His eyes darted to the ground beneath them, where a giant crack was forming under him and, more importantly, Echo. Panicking, Ellery shoved his friend aside, shouting at him fearfully. "Oh no!! Hurry Echo, get away, run run ruaaaaaaaaaaaaa...
OW!" The exclamation was shouted from the darkness into which Ellery had fallen, not a far distance but certainly farther than either of the two children could have scaled. He winced and shakily stood. After a quick inspection, he had noted two scraped knees and a bruise on his arm, but nothing else. Ellery panted lightly as he looked around his new surroundings, his instinctual fear quickly being replaced by wonder. There were walls, like building walls, but underground, and a thing with fire that lit everything up. The walls seemed to make hallways that led places. Excited once more at this new adventure, the faun called up loudly. "Echooooo!! C'mere, come see, come see, it's soooo cool!"

After confusion mixed with terror, Echo didn't hesitate to hurry over to his friend's side, clinging to the faun's arm tightly. He watched with wide turquoise eyes as Ellery lined up his earthquake, too young and naive to notice or even fathom the possibility that Ellery had no idea what he was doing, or that he maybe had as little control over his magic as Echo, himself, did. However, he was smart enough to realize that something had gone wrong when the ground beneath Ellery's hooves sounded as though it was hollow.
When he was shoved away from the crack that appeared in the Earth, it didn't serve to help him very much. Rather than gracefully running in the other direction, the chubby little nix squealed and fell backwards, eyes wide. In a fruitless attempt to save himself from the descent that his friend was surely going to suffer, he scrambled backward without getting back to his feet. Unluckily for him, that served him no luck as the ground ended up caving regardless, making him scream as he, too, was sucked into the bowels of the Earth.
"Eee- OUCH!!" Echo squealed, though he hit the ground much sooner than he had expected to. Whimpering softly at the surprising amount of pain that his bum was now feeling, he got to his feet awkwardly, rubbing at his tailbone and looking up at Ellery, before allowing his eyes to drift around the rest of the room. He blinked a couple times, letting his eyes get used to the surprisingly soft light, unable to pull his eyes back toward Ellery when he saw where they were. "Wow... hey, Ell'ry, where d'you think we are...?"
