And introducing Cuddles!

Scaramouche Fandango
Cuddles smiled with glee as she laced the last of the holly shrubs with the glistening sinews of a freshly-disembowelled squirrel. She'd checked- it hadn't been anybody's friend. At least nobody important. Poor loveless squirrel. Ah, well. It was serving a much greater purpose now. The path between the bushes leading to her caretaker's den (and by extension, her den) was laced with lovely bits of tasty noms, a tempting trail of teasing treasure. How could he possibly resist? She sighed as she traced swirling markings onto her soft fur with blood. Little hearts dotted her fins as she daubed her eyes, cheeks, and lips with red. Oh, how beautiful she looked! Yes, he would find her, concealed in the bushes, lying weak and helpless, and his heart would melt. Had he found her bait by now? Surely he had. Fluttering her lashes, she practiced swooning as she waited for her beloved to waltz into the glen. Unfortunately, the day's mass squirrel homicide and decorating effort had been too much for the little lady. Head tucked into her paws, she dozed off, dead to the world.

Aurrific
The mass, squirrelly homicide hadn't gone completely unnoticed. In fact, it was the coppery scent of blood that encouraged the young otter to move in the direction of the glen. His creamy, chocolate fur bristled with delight as he searched for the source of the wonderful smells. His stomach, too, gave a bit of a hungry rumble. Fish, squirrel, it was the same thing, really. Just one had scales, the other fur. Both were delicious. The Demonic otter really wasn't sure quite what to expect, but the decorative rodent bits seemed too, well... Delicious. A scent beneath that caught his curiosity, however, and the want to dine on squirrel parts faded as he searched for the stranger, who was obviously an otter, from her scent. He poked his head between several bushes before he found the right little hide away. She was white furred and literally soaked in blood. Squirrel blood, by the smell of things. Was she sleeping? "Ahemmmm~"

Scaramouche Fandango
The noise jolted Cuddles from her dreams. "Wuzzat!" she hissed. "Who's there? Come out or I'll get you! I got those squirrels, I can get you!" Her voice was shrill and angry- how dare the intrude distract her from her dreams of Mister Darcy Rhett ButlerClarence! But when she turned to actually look at the intruder, teeth bared and eyes squinched angrily, her heart began to pound. "Oh!" she said, voice suddenly becoming soft and faint and breathy. "Oh... it's you... hello my love..." she murmured softly, batting her eyelashes as she gazed into his fierce, strong, manly eyes. "Oh, Ah do declare," she managed to breathe before daintily swooning over his paw. "Ah've waited my entire life for a big, strong, man like you!" And with that, she shut her eyes, pretending the shock of love had killed her. This would have been the absolute worst time for her caretaker to emerge from the den, so naturally, due to the laws of comedy, Opheliac poked her head out, attracted by the reek of blood and the commotion. What she saw was... less than pleasing. A large demonic otter in her territory, entrails all over her yard... and one of her little army covered in blood and limp in his paws. Horrified, the winged female could only stare, the expression on her face matching that of a furious mother grizzly.

Aurrific
He was slightly taken aback by her hissing, but not so much that he didn't crack a smirk. Mini-otters were a funny bunch and it felt so weird not being one, for once. The first several seasons of his life had been spent as a small, troublemaking mini. Thanks to a particular brew, he had become like the bigger ones he so admired. No thanks to the brew, he was a bit too large to enjoy gnawing on the bone he had often dragged around with him and he was in dire need of finding a new one. What she went on to say next threw the young demon through a loop. His sharp, blue eyes narrowed and be bristled. "What the 'ell you talkin' 'bout, little otter, eh?" Despite the want to let her hit the earth, he did catch her. His movements weren't exactly graceful, per say. He shook her lightly, scowling, as he attempted to rouse her. "Hey you, lil 'un, wakey-wakey." It was about that time that Opheliac emerged from her den. For being an Angelic otter, he felt she gave him a run for his clams. She looked damned dangerous. "Errrrr..."

Scaramouche Fandango
"What. Happened. Here." The violet-red female took a few steps closer to the apparent murderer. The fur on her back bristled as her eyes blazed with the fury of an angry sun. Cuddles, for her own part, wasn't moving- not because she was trying to attract Clarence, but because playing dead was often the only option with an angry Ophie. She thought very hard about running away, trying to imprint the idea into the cocoa-colored demonic's head. It was quite honestly the only way they were going to survive this, and besides... was anything more romantic than eloping? See, she could be a pragmatic romantic! If only Seep were here to witness her masterplan coming to a head. The only flaw now was... ok, there were two flaws. First, she wasn't psychic. Second, her romantic hero seemed to be frozen in fear. She didn't blame him. She'd never seen Ophie quite this mad... not even the time when she and Seep almost collapsed the den. Or the time she and Seep kidnapped an angelic mini and attempted to pluck his wings. Meanwhile, the furious angelic was approaching ever nearer...

Aurrific
So, perhaps this was what fear felt like. The usually hardheaded otter hadn't exactly been approached in such a manner before. Usually, he was waved off, ignored, or moved on on his own accord. Of course, being a largeish otter was much different than being a smallish otter and he wasn't excused for his mischievous behavior quite as easily. Running was the first thought that came to his mind, but not because of the mini's attempts to become psychic and to stress this to him. In fact, he wasn't even sure what was wrong with her or what he should say. "She was like this when I got 'ere, lady, I dunno what's wrong wi'd 'er." He placed her on the ground as gently as he could manage given the circumstances, though it was a bit too rough to even be considered along the romantic lines. He took a step back, tail flicking as he debated taking off. Of course, he running from an Angelic otter wouldn't do much for his reputation as a big, bad demonic otter, after all the work he did to become one.

Scaramouche Fandango
As soon as he put her down, Cuddles wasted no time in running like hell. "Followmefollowmefollowmeeeeeeeeeeeeee!" she squealed, pretty much indistinguishably, before disappearing into the bushes. Her beloved Clarence could make things right with Ophie, and then they could run away together forever! She'd just need to flee before Ophie figured out that she'd decorated the clearing- perhaps that could be blamed on Seep?- and all would be well. (Cuddles was never known for her planning skills.) As Opheliac watched her friend flee, clearly screeching in terror, she slunk around the demonic, blocking him into the clearing. Whiskers a-quiver, she moved to back him up against a tree. He wasn't leaving this clearing until she had some answers. "Like that when you got here, eh? Then tell me, why was she screaming when she ran away? Why was she playing dead? She was probably hoping you weren't interested in live prey, you monster! Just look at what you've done to my clearing! What is that... that... that's intestine..." Her expression changed from RAGING FURIOUS to FURIOUSLY DISGUSTED. It was a very subtle difference, to be sure. "That better not be otter. Or turtle. Because you'll be joining it if it is." They say angelic otters are heavenly, but sometimes... sometimes it seemed like Opheliac might just be one of the ones that had fallen. Right now, it seemed like she was one of the ones who'd jumped.

Aurrific
He blinked with confusion as the little critter jumped up and high tailed it out of the clearing. He had half a mind to follow, but that Demonic Angelic otter was quick to block his path. Predictably, he backed up from her and found his rear to the rough trunk of a tree. He could try to fight, if it came right down to it, but he had never been much of a fighter, even after his transformation. He was the type that liked to skulk about and cause minor inconveniences. Fighting was never his strong point and this strange otter seemed like a little hellion. Did he want to risk it? Naaaaah. But he had to do something to get himself out of this rather unfortunate mess. "S'a matter of fact, it were. I dunno what made her pass out, but she was talkin' all kinds 'o weird right before she fell down. Y'know, I'm thinkin' she might be a bit cracked in the 'ead, if ya get my meanin' an' all. Don't smell like no otter or turtle t'me." He did his best to stand his ground, but he felt out of his element and worry was written clearly across his demonic features.

Scaramouche Fandango
Confusion crossed Opheliac's darkened features. "So... you didn't do this?" Stepping back, she let him breathe a bit. Even her furious state, she was willing to listen. Cuddles typically wasn't a normal creature at the best of times, but she'd never done anything that extreme... unless... oh my. "So let me get this straight. My lovely holly shrubs were strung up in sinew- sinew of unknown origin- while my little friend was pretending to be fainted in the middle of it... oh no. Oh you poor dear. Oh, I'm so, so, so sorry!" Compassion melted her fury away, and she reached out to pat the demonic male on the shoulder, hugging him to her. "Oh you poor thing! Oh my god you must be Clarence. I was assuming you'd be... much smaller, honestly. Much, much smaller. When she'd said she'd found her one true love, the champion of her heart and the father of her children, I'd assumed... oh, you must forgive me for being so angry. Had I but known!" She dropped her ears, smiling contritely. "Say you forgive me- please?"

Aurrific
He was so damned confused. He relaxed, but only just, as the other otter backed away from him. He had little to no idea just what was going on, so he could only guess. "Well, yeah, that's what I reckon, lady. I ain't no angel, but I ain't done this. She's gone and confused the 'ell out of me." He stiffened slightly as she pulled him towards her. He was even further confused by hearing his name. "What, ya know me? I used t'be smallish, long time ago 'n what not. But, uh... Sure?" He cocked his head, appearing genuinely befuddled.

Scaramouche Fandango
"Oh good!" she said, sitting down and patting the ground to indicate that he should do the same. "Sit, sit, and let me explain. I don't know you personally, but I've heard about you. All about you. You've had a mini spying on you, and she shares everything. Cuddles... well, she gets fixated on things, y'see. And she's been fixating on you for the past few days. She's, uh... she's rather taken with you. And she's been planning on seducing you for a while now... I just never realized it would be like this." She sighed and shook her head. "I'm afraid that she's a rather intense little girl."

Aurrific
While he was still hesitant, he assumed it would be best to follow suit. At least she wasn't acting as though she was going to try to rip his head from his shoulders, so things were running a little more smoothly than they were before. He sat alongside her, ears flicked back as he listened to what she had to say. Needless to say, it didn't really ease his confusion or worry that much. Sure, he was now aware of what had happened, but he found it creepy as sin, even for his standards. The little, blood coated otter had been spying on him? Damn, and he and Ankle Biter didn't even notice! "Y'know, I'm thinkin' callin' her intense is puttin' it lightly, lady."

Scaramouche Fandango
Opheliac shrugged. "She's not... Not normal. None of my little family is, really. At least Seep and Facebones aren't the sort to go out and cause trouble. At least it's not as bad as the time when she decided the Ranger was out to get her. She managed to steal clothes, and she's not even tall enough to open a door or sneak in a window. In your case, she's just in love with you, which means that she just watches you. And occasionally leaves you gifts. Lemme see... let's figure out how bad this is. Have you been finding dead animals in your territory? Like, animals that shouldn't be dead?"

Aurrific
Their names didn't sound that normal, either, come to think of it. Then again, his own little miniature companion was named Ankle Biter, so he didn't have much room to talk. The little thing stole clothes? He had been large for a mini, way back when, and he doubted he could have pulled that off. Truth be told, he was a bit in awe of her skills, even if it did creep him out a bit. "Errrr... Now that ya mention it... I did find a rabbit th' other day what was pretty darn dead, and it weren't natural lookin." Thing was tasty, though...

Scaramouche Fandango
"When she was trying to convince me to let her move in, she managed to down a deer. I haven't the faintest idea how she managed to do it." Opheliac patted Clarence once again. "It seems you've got a bit of a predicament here, my friend. It'll not go well for you if you reject her, but... well, I'm afraid her affections can be a bit dangerous."

Aurrific
"Well, that's maddeningly unhelpful." He found himself feeling sort of, well, cross. That mini was dangerous, whether or not he rejected or accepted her and both options sounded bad for his health. He didn't put so much effort into getting that potion simply to have a rather violent falling out with a creature smaller than himself. "Y'got a miniature otter what's takin' down deer and y'don't got anything a'lil more useful advice for me?" He shook his head with dismay and kept an eye peeled for the blood spattered critter. If she had been watching him for that long, he doubted he would notice her now... Then again, now he was aware that she had been watching him. Awell, hopefully he could get things to turn out well enough, right?

Scaramouche Fandango
"Oh, how I wish I could be more helpful!" the female fretted. "It's just that usually she doesn't fixate on other otters! And certainly not a romantic partner- I honestly don't know where she got the interest. I certainly haven't been pointing her in that direction." Opheliac put a paw to her chin. "Perhaps... perhaps you could simply convince her that you aren't a big strong demonic otter. That you're not brutal at all. I know that scaring her off wouldn't work... and the only thing she fears is fire... Hmm. I think I might have a plan!" She grinned. As friendly as the grin was, it was absolutely horrifying. "Can you scream like a little girl? That'll be necessary. I'll need you to meet us at the old campground at sunset." She winked at him, conspiratorially. "I'd tell you more, but I need the fear to be real."

Aurrific
He gave an exasperated sigh, almost a hiss through his fangs. What about him had caught her interest? He didn't find himself particularly strong or handsome, so why did she think that way. Opheliac seemed to have an idea, though, and she lived with the mini, so she must have had some sort of knowledge pertinent to shaking Cuddles free from holding such an interest in him. Come to think of it, he wasn't too fond of fire, either, and he didn't think it would be too hard to scream, even if he wasn't scared... Right? He could do it. "Right, I'll be meetin' ya there. Almost worried 'bout what you're cookin' up, lady."

Scaramouche Fandango
"Excellent! You just be there at sundown. I'm off to go find Cuddles." Leaning in, Opheliac hugged the male, squeaking excitedly. "I know how to fix this!" And with that, she disappeared into the shrubbery, calling for Cuddles, leaving the brown male confused and befuddled. She was being clear as mud, but she was too excited about her plan to be any less confusing.

Aurrific
"Errr..." He stood, more than just a bit confused. "I sure 'ope yer right, cos I ain't got the faintest." But she was already gone, out searching for the demonic little miniature otter. He shook his head in an attempt to clear his thoughts, but that didn't help either. He turned from the scene and slumped away from the clearing in an attempt to search for Ankle Biter and a bit something to eat before sundown.

Scaramouche Fandango
Sundown came, taking its sweet time to do so. Opheliac had managed to find Cuddles, yell at Cuddles, feel bad about yelling at Cuddles, attempted to explain to Cuddles why she shouldn't be in love with Clarence, gotten attacked by Cuddles for "dishonoring mah one true lahhve!", consulted Seep about Cuddles' newly acquired accent, made Cuddles clean up the clearing, found Seep's lighter, learned how to use Seep's lighter, and pretended to have received a message from Clarence all in the span of the afternoon. The miniature otter was driving her completely insane, but she knew that all would be ruined if they left early. Finally, it was time to leave, and so she let the mini out of the den. Cuddles sprinted ahead, Opheliac following quietly behind her, not letting the mini know she was following. The pair headed for the abandoned campground, home to loads of dry leaves and rubbish and trees. Nobody lived there- if something was going to burn, this was the best place for it to happen. And it'd only be a small fire. Totally controlled. Yup.

Aurrific
Clarence wasn't too thrilled about this. While the Angelic otter was busy getting her mini in line, he was doing his best to relax before this "mystery" thing that would make him scream like a little girl. He had spent his afternoon leisurely paddling in the river, catching fish for he and Ankle Biter to eat. He was quick to tell the red, white, and black otter to remain in the den, for fear of him getting into a scrap with the obviously troubled miniature otter. He found himself at the abandoned campground, a bit more than just worried. His paws caused several of the fallen leaves to crackle. Wincing, he sat quietly, waiting for the other two to arrive.

Scaramouche Fandango
As Opheliac hid herself, Cuddles looked 'round for Clarence. Where could he be? Was that dark shadowy shape him? No, that was a twisted old camp chair. How about that soft thing? Nope. That was a sleeping bag with all the stuffing gone. How about that brown spikey thing? Nah, that was... no wait! That was him! "Mah laaahve!" she shouted, barreling towards the demonic male. "Oh, we'll never be separated again!" But before she could reach him, Opheliac had sprung into action. Flicking the lighter like she'd been shown, she attempted to light a nearby trash can on fire. However, her claws made it... difficult to operate, and she accidentally dropped it on the ground. Pretty soon, the leaf litter coating the ground was completely engulfed in flames. Oops. Panicked, she leaped into the air, flying above the flames, trying not to fan them as she looked for her little companion. Cuddles was determined and determination made her stupid. She wouldn't put it past the mini to continue into the flames, trying to rescue Clarence.

Aurrific
He wasn't completely caught off guard this time, as he was expecting the arrival of the white miniature otter, though he was hardly looking forward to it. "Uh, sure, never apart. Right." He bobbed his head, anxiously keeping a wary blue eye out for the much larger otter that he was expecting... Only he wasn't expecting the flames like they came. They shot up, eating away at the dried leaves, and he didn't have to fake the high pitched screech that left his maw.

Scaramouche Fandango
Never apart! He'd said it with his own lips! Oh, glorious day! Cuddles was so very, very excited... and then the blaze started. Her heart broke. Not because she was afraid of the fire (well... she was, but that wasn't why her heart was broken), but because fires didn't start spontaneously. Clarence must have started it- the heat of his passion igniting the leaves. And that could only mean one thing. Clearly, he was a fire wizard. And as Seep had told her many a time, fire wizards were the enemy of all mini-kind. As Opheliac swooped down and picked up, she waved a tearful paw at him, not even caring where her winged friend had come from. "Goodbye, mah laaaahve! Ah'm sahrry we can neverrrrrrr beeeeeeeeeee!"

Aurrific
"Right!" He could hardly think clearly, but he did catch and remember the part words Cuddles had given him, and at least that was pleasant. "Y'sure ya got it? Watch yerself!" And with that, he dropped to all fours and shot off as fast as he could in the opposite direction of the flames. He hoped that the fire wouldn't be anything serious.

Scaramouche Fandango
"Got 'er!" the angelic female shouted as she glided towards a tree, catching a nice thermal from the blaze. Depositing the little mini high in the branches, where she couldn't get into any more trouble, she thought about how best to put out the flames. That trash can she'd wanted to burn seemed pretty light-weight and it still had its bottom. The river was close- she could get water from there. And the blaze was already dying- dead leaves burned fast but not long. It didn't take her long to control the damage. As she worked, she glanced off into the distance, hoping that Clarence had gotten away quickly enough that he hadn't been singed.

Aurrific
He dipped into the river, speeding away back towards his den. He hoped that the little mini had given up on him for good, but he felt an intense desire to carve himself out a new den, anyways, once the day began. Fortunately, he wasn't singed badly, just a few slightly charred patches here and there on his flanks, but nothing more. He dragged himself ashore on the opposite side of the river and glanced back. The flames seemed to be dying, which was a good thing for certain.

Scaramouche Fandango
As the last of the fire died, Opheliac flew back to the tree, landing beside the distraught Cuddles. "Cuddles... you ok?" The shellshocked creature stared out at the night. "He... he was so beautiful... so strong... so perfect..." Tears in her eyes, she looked up at her friend. Only one question raced through her mind. "Why'd he have to be a fire wizard, Ophie? Why? Why are the ones I love always fire wizards?" Shaking her head, Opheliac snuggled the mini close. "I guess we'll never know," she said, tucking the lighter deep into her fur. Crisis averted. "I guess we'll never know."
