Lin watched with some amusement as Naida and her daughter sat on the floor of the portal room braiding little braids into each other's hair. Even though her parents could not come along (her father had muttered something about check ups and flu season), the mers were more than happy to come along. Just to the Borderlands of course.
Miyuki was very fond of Naida, not only did Naida play an instrument, but she was just as active as Miyuki. Which was a good, because then the two could play with each other while they waited.
Miyu, was also there, wanting to come along and visit. She still couldn't bring herself to visit by herself. Though she certainly had made leaps and bounds with her personality. Somewhat...
"Now.. just the neko trio..." Lin murmured, "And those braids are going to be a bugger to get out."
"Well at least her hair isn't wet," Feng pointed out in good humour, she would have the harder time of the two to get the braids out since Naida's hair would be wet from the water.

There was going to be a slight change this time around, however: Ura was not going to be joining the others on the trip. Shiro was trying an experiment, one that Ura was more than happy to volunteer for. Shiro would go to Arda, and Ura would stay behind, and they would see how much they could communicate together despite being in different worlds. If it worked, Shi would probably try to spend a lot more time in Arda and Ura would simply send him any messages that he received for him.
As it was, Shiro and Kaito showed up at the portal room with their bags, ready to go.
"We're set," Shiro nodded at Lin and the others, keeping his tablet tucked securely under his arm.

It was actually a bit surprising for Lin to see Shiro and Kaito but not Ura, but she was sure there was a reason for that.
"Alright then, time to go through the portal," Lin turned a bit, "Girls, don't run on ahead though once you go through."
She didn't want to lose either of them, not that Naida could run. Feng had finally gotten Naida to learn how to walk, and it had not gone over well.
"Yay!" Miyuki was holding her bag, as well as a little egg she had gotten just for her ada, because she thought he would like it a lot.
She grabbed Naida's hand and helped the other mer up, chatting on how she could be a fish again once they got to water.
With two children in two it took a bit of ushering to get everyone through the portal and onto the other side. Lin braced herself for the possible change in weather, as she didn't know what season it would be.

In Arda, it was late winter, and the snow was deep and crisp. There were no tracks in the area, but since it was snowing lightly that didn't mean that there hadn't been anyone around recently.
Kaito ruffled his feathers and wrapped them around himself. "Wow," he murmured. "Talk about a climate change."
Shiro pulled a sweater out of his bag and pulled it on. "Come prepared," he quipped. "You know the Borderlands has the coldest weather of anywhere we've been yet in this world."

"Miyuki, come here and put on your boots!" Lin called out.
She dug into the bag for her and Miyuki's boots and cloak. Looking around, she noted that while the snow was deep, it wasn't like they had to dig themselves out, which was a good sign. Otherwise it would be hard to find the houses.
"Awww....." Miyuki trotted over to her mother.
She really couldn't say no, since it was much colder here than Amon Darthir so she couldn't say no to boots.
"Your toes will thank you for it later," she told her daughter as she helped put the boots on and tightly secured the cloak.
"We're going to have to make holes in the ice, unless someone will let us crash in their tub," Ryu murmured looking around, "Unless the river runs quite fast, I can't remember now."
Like the other mers he was unaffected by the cold, but it was clear as say that it would be hard to get in and out of the river unless it was running fast enough.
Once Lin put on her own cloak and boots, she was ready to continue onto Haven.

"We'll come with you to Haven," Shiro told Lin once he and Kaito were ready. "I do want to check sometime and see if Adonai is back, but for now I'd like a guarantee of warmth."
For the most part, he was all right, but his wings didn't have feathers for protection like Lin's and Kaito's, so his wings were often cold. And they didn't fit inside a sweater or jacket comfortably.
"Let's get going then," Kaito nodded, starting off towards the ranch.

The trip to the ranch was a quiet one, well as quiet as it could get with both children wanting to play in the snow. Naida was always up for play, but Miyuki didn't remember seeing this much snow before. The fact she could pick it up and mold it by packing it was just fascinating to her.
In the end she ended up walking along side the group, holding snow and packing it into a ball and then trying to shape it into a heart.
Once they got to the ranch house, Lin had to make Miyuki leave it on the front porch instead of bringing it in.

Shiro led the way into the house, and once he was inside he called out, "Hello? Anyone home?"
"In the playroom," Haradhel's voice answered back from the direction of the playroom. "Come on in."
Kaito left his bag at the foot of the stairs and headed in, followed quickly by Shiro.
Haradhel was sitting cross-legged on the floor with a small mocha-skinned child on her lap: a little girl with dark eyes and blond hair, who couldn't be more than three or four years old. It seemed that Haradhel was reading to the child, because she had a picture book in her hands - a new one, because most of the original books that had come from Gaia had rotted away by this time.

The others followed suit, the toy room had changed since the last anyone had been there, which wasn't surprising. Toys didn't last forever after all.
Lin though was looking at this little child, it had been a long time since Haven had a little child about, "Hi Haradhel, who's this little one?"
Naida was already making a beeline for the little girl and Haradhel, and Miyuki followed suit just because Naida did.

Haradhel smiled widely when she saw the group that had arrived, and she greeted them warmly.
"This is Brooke," she introduced her. "Timaeus and Alyse's third and youngest so far. I'm just babysitting for a bit while Timaeus is hunting and Alyse is schooling Jasmine and River."
Her eyes sparkled brightly as she looked at Miyuki. "And I see that's not all that's new. Earendil told me you'd grown, Miyuki, but I couldn't imagine until now just how much you've grown. My, but you're growing up so fast!"

Miyuki blinked, she was use to people knowing her even if she didn't know them.
"So... we've met before?" she asked.
She didn't know how little she was when she had been here last.

Haradhel laughed. "Indeed. This is the place you first visited in Arda. You were here when you had one and two tails, though you left soon after you grew your second tail."
She had learned from Earendil that Miyuki counted her age by tails, rather than years.
"Speaking of which," she added, looking at Lin, "if you're looking for him, I believe he's out with Aethos somewhere. I'm not entirely sure where ..."

"Hmm...." Lin looked thoughtful, she wondered how Aethos was doing, "If he's out with Aethos, maybe it's showing him something, but on the other hand I have no clue how long they've been here."
"Maybe ada is teaching Aethos how to play in the snow!" Miyuki suggested happily.
She thought it would be fun to play with Aethos, even though past experience dictated that playing with him might be a bit hard.

Haradhel couldn't help but giggle at Miyuki's enthusiasm.
"It's quite possible," she winked. "They've been here half a year already - and what a half a year it's been! Poor Luk ... it took over a week for all the ranch hands to meet him, and just about every time he ended up almost jumped on!"
Though it was probably hardest for Arthael, finding out what she was after growing up with the values of the Westlanders.

Lin shook her head but she was smiling, she had forgotten how rare it was that humans came around Haven at all.
"How is Luk doing? Or Arthael for that matter?"
