It was that special time of the month, it was time to stock up the house once more with groceries. Akuja found this special time to even be a bit more intensive now that she had two new mouths to feed, but lucky for her they weren’t picky so buying more food wasn’t all that bad. Seidh liked to help out and be “responsible” so thus when asked if she would go pick out some desserts for them over the next few weeks, she gladly accepted the task and was soon off to the dessert aisle and bakery.

The small girl would of course take this task very seriously, her fingers coming up to her chin thoughtfully as she looked over all the possibilities.

Vance and Donovan perused the grocery store, with Vance clinging to the front of the cart and pointing out things he wanted. Donovan merely humoured the boy with a smile or a short "aah". He was often pretty lax as a dad, but he wasn't about to let Vance live off sweets.
Eventually though, the constant begging was getting to be irritating. So a compromise was made. If Vance was quiet for the rest of the trip, then he could pick out one special treat.

Vance agreed, and sped off on his own to find that one special treat.

This adventure led him to the baked goods, which filled the area with an irresistible aroma that pulled the boy in. Vance looked over the rows of goodies with hungry eyes, before finding he had company. "Hi!" He greeted the girl without hesitation. "I'm Vance. Who're you?" Were her eyes.. black?
Awesome!

Seidh had been off in her own little world, very much focused on her important mission. She wondered about what they should have for dessert after they have a dish such as spaghetti. Also, what was she in the mood for? What was Fremere in the mood for? What was her mother in the mood for? Decisions, decisions, decisions…

She was startled out of her thoughts though when a chipper voice called out to her, causing her to blink and look over at the boy with green hair and red eyes. Her lips parted a bit in surprise at how fast this was all moving, from his introduction to now inquiring about her name. Wow…he was….really forward it seemed! This was a bit new to the small girl, aside from Fremere’s behavior. “He….hello…Vance…” She replied back softly. “My name is Seidh…”

Vance wasn't sure if he had met anyone shy yet. Therefore the girl's reaction seemed strange to him. He grinned as she introduced herself. "Seidh?" What an odd name, he thought. Not that he would say so. He was a bit rambunctious, but not quite rude. "I'm here to get a treat! I'm only allowed one though." He said seriously, crossing his arms and looking back at the goods. Such a serious decision! He wanted everything, so it was a tough choice.

"But theres so many good things! What are you getting?" Maybe Seidh knew of a good treat. If so, maybe he could copy the girl.

The small girl gave a nod of her head when he repeated her name to confirm it. Yep, that was her name, and it would be okay if he voiced that it was odd. It wouldn’t have bothered her, just as long as he didn’t think her eyes were odd. “Oh..!” She replied. “…I am here to get a treat too…um…a few.” Unlike Vance, she had to pick some out to last them for more than one sitting. She watched as the boy crossed his arms and then turned his attention back to the goods. Yes, it was a serious decision indeed! One she could agree with.

Um…” Seidh hummed thoughtfully for a moment, her fingers going back to her chin. “…I don’t know yet…but…I do like blackberry pie.”

A few? As in more than one? "Lucky~." Vance said, puffing his cheeks. How come he could only have one? Unfair. He would have to find a loop hole.

Blackberry pie? He tilted his head. "I've never had pie before. Is it candy?" He asked, looking at what seemed to be pies. They looked like healthy food. Berries were fruit.
The way the boy talked, one would think he hardly ate good food. This wasn't true, but Vance could stand to open up his palette to other foods. He was a bit of a picky eater.
"What does it taste like?" He thought out loud, judging the pastry intensely. It was big though. It could be made to last.. or eaten all at once, depending on how good it was.

Yes, she was lucky she supposed, but she also had to share the goodies with two other people. Not that she minded at all, she was really content with what she was given.

Seidh blinked a bit when Vance asked if it was candy. “Um…no…?” She answered back a bit uncertain. “It’s…a pie…a dessert…a pastry…?” She listed off as many words as she could think of to describe a pie when a thought came to mind. “Oh! It is like cake…except it has fruit filling?” She hoped that was good enough for the boy. She never really thought about describing exactly what a pie was. She happened to move down one of the aisles a bit to where she was certain there were blackberry pies and pointed down at it.

It…tastes…really good? Um…it’s…tangy at first when you bite into the berries…but then it gets sweet, it’s my favorite.”

Like cake? He loved cake. But it didn't look like cake. Cake had frosting. If he had to choose, right now he would pick cake. But was fruit filling anything like the filling in cake? He looked over the pie in question, examining the graphic on the package. So the whole inside was filling?

Vance furrowed his brow as Seidh explained how yummy the dessert was. Vance wanted cake now, so he was weary about wasting his one treat on a dessert he never had before. If the boy thought any more, steam might blow from his ears. "This is tough.."
He decided to check out the cakes instead. Maybe they looked better than pie.

"What's your favorite cake?" Vance asked, assuming the girl knew cake, seeing as she used it as a comparison. "I like vanilla! With strawberries on it."

Seidh had been so absorbed into her own thoughts about how yummy black berry pie was, that she had startled once more upon hearing Vance contemplate about how tough this was. The small girl was obviously a pie person, but she still liked cake too! Not everyone had to love pie like she did, after all. As the boy shifted over to where the cakes were, Seidh actually tagged along right now. The boy wasn’t bad company at all!

My favorite cake…?” She looked thoughtful for a long moment before replying, “I like strawberry cake with chocolate frosting.” She especially liked them when they were in cupcake form.

"So you love strawberries too? I love them! It's the only yummy fruit. I don't like apples. Oranges are too yuck." The boy was probably just rambling. Surely there were other fruits he liked. "Chocolate is awesome." He agreed with a nod. "I like chocolate bars too. But I can only have them once a week." He puffed his cheeks again. "I have to eat carrots and veggies every day instead. They're okaaaay but not as good as candy."

"Are you here with your mom or dad? I'm here with Dad! He makes stuff with old metal things. And he fixes stuff." The boy had somehow gone off the topic of food for the moment. He looked over the desserts, licking his lips at the choices.

Seidh couldn’t help but blink as she was suddenly barraged with questions and chattered at. She did her best to keep up though! “Yes…I like strawberries too.” She agreed. “O…oh…I like apples and oranges too….especially caramel apples…it’s like a candy?” Seidh mused. Yes, chocolate was awesome, she could definitely agree with that, nodding her head in response to Vance. The small girl did giggle softly as Vance pouted and puffed out his cheeks. It was obvious he liked his sweets but she understood, she had to eat her veggies too, she just took it more gracefully that’s all.

The small girl noted curiously that when Vance asked his next question, he said mom “or” dad. Did he only have one parent too? Her question was soon answered of course. Huh! Someone who had a dad! That was a bit different than the other kids she was meeting thus far. “I am here with my mother and brother.” She replied and sounded a bit awed as the boy described what his dad did. “My mother works at the funeral home.” She murmured. She…fixed dead people?

Caramel apples? It still had apples in the caramel though. Strange.

So she was a kid who had a mom then? And a brother? "Oh, really? A brother? What's he like?" Vance asked curiously, giving the girl his full attention. In his mind, all mom's were like Xai or Tyyne, a warm and nurturing type of person. So he felt no need to ask.

How little he did know.

Funeral Home? A home for funerals. So every day... they had... Vance looked a bit pale at that. "S-so.. are there dead... bodies there.." He asked, trying not to let on he was a bit freaked out. "They don't.. come alive, do they? They zombies?"

When asked about her brother, Seidh took a moment to think about how to properly describe him. Not that words would do him justice but she had to try. “He is…a little older than I am…um..very outgoing…and he likes to make new friends and is very, very friendly.” That really didn’t sum the boy up, but this was his sister after all, and she probably wouldn’t describe him the way someone else would…

The small girl blinked as the boy seemed to be a bit uncomfortable and even pale when she told him where her mother worked. She gave a nod of her head when he asked if there were dead bodies there. Of course there was! Not that Akuja would let them see when they were this young, but she had sat them down and explained to them (as nicely as possible) what it is her job was, and it didn’t bother them. She looked a bit surprised when he asked about zombies. At the funeral home?

Oh no…there are no zombies there…um…none of them come back alive…”

This brother sounded awesome. He liked making friends too! "Woooow... having a brother must be cool." He said with a nod, and a deep look.
Vance decided he wanted a sibling. For now he had Boxer the cat, but a sibling would be nifty.

No zombies? Vance supposed he would have to believe her. He nodded a bit and swallowed hard. "Oh.. okay." Still, he wasn't sure if living with dead people would be cool or not. He had never met a zombie, or a dead person. TV told him they were scary though.

Vance studied the cakes some more, scratching his head at the choices. "Are they here? Did you come by yourself? I go out on my own a lot, but I'm with my Dad today."
He looked at Seidh as he spoke, staring into her black eyes. He found them to be a bit spooky, but incredibly fascinating.

The small girl blinked at Vance’s awed tone. “…It is.” She agreed quietly, but at the same time she really didn’t know what it was like to not have a sibling, so it was something she was just use to. She did love her brother though, and she couldn’t imagine being without him.

Seidh tried to give him a small reassuring smile about the subject of dead people and zombies. Those weren’t things she was worried about because she didn’t see them on the television and Akuja assured them that they really had nothing to be scared of. “…Oh yes…my mother and brother are doing the rest of the shopping here while I pick out desserts.” She informed the small frog boy quietly, blinking a bit as he seemed to be staring at her rather intently.

Oh, he wandered by himself? She usually didn’t…and if she did it was because Akuja was somewhere close by.
