Amrita had finally sucked up the courage enough to wander to the Maul by herself. She wasn't afraid of being alone; no she was quite used to that; but she was more afraid of getting lost, or being unable to find her way back. With a Zombie's brain, this was a rather legitimate fear for her! But she had done it, and proudly so! The trek to the maul was rather easy, and although her reversed toes had been stepped on a couple times there wasn't any other trips or falls to hinder her shuffling progress. It had gone very well! But her journey had a reason, and that reason: Pet food. Demon Cat was starting to consider Mini Golem less of a playmate and more of an appetizer...that was probably a bad thing. Probably.
The Pet store was sought out and located (with help from the very bored sounding Maul Map), and though she had what she needed held against her chest, she couldn't resist leaning in to look at the various fish swimming in their murky tanks. In fact, it was...rather hypnotic. Humming softly to herself, Amrita's remaining eye lidded a little, settling to watching the fish as though tranced.
Soon an attendant broke her out of her trance, reminding her of her purchases; she was more than happy to pay, but once she was back into the Maul itself...she suddenly couldn't recall which way was the way she had come: the way to get out. With a little whimper, the little Vetala held her bag against her chest, looking this way and that in hopes of jogging her whiteboard-like memory...

Lucien was just sort of floating around. He wasn't really sure exactly where he was. He had never been to this place before. The maul, he believed it was called. An infrastructure of many buildings with a purpose to keep the undead lively. He imagined other creatures could be kept entertained here as well though. He wasn't overly fond of being inside though, but there were so many things in the maul that kept drawing Lucien's attention.
So it was a big surprised when he suddenly floated into something that had crossed his path. It took him a moment to realize and snap out of his interest in the other things to realize that he had bumped into something. He quickly took a float back and apologized before finally finding out it was a just a pole. Hm... He turned around and just as he went to move forward he bumped into something rather small. He looked down to examine just what it was he had bumped into this time...

The little Vetala didn't notice the ghost the first time around. She was too busy looking at the walls and the shops to see the ghouls and boils around her. The second time though, she did notice...and only because she felt something bump into her. With a little cry of surprise she dropped her bag, but in her attempt to get out of the away she lost balance and fell to the side a bit, managing to catch herself with her reversed hands. Damn her clumsy backwards feet!
"Wuh-whaaaat..." Amrita breathed out in shock, drawing herself onto her knees to look up, staring with a wide eye at the boil looking down at her. Almost instantly her jaw closed tightly, what was left of her lips sealed themselves together. Ohjack! Someone new!
She stayed quiet, just staring wide-eyed at the boil; as always she was tongue tied until they spoke to her first.

It surprised Lucien when he realized what he was looking at was a small... child? He examined what he could see from her shorter stature. She had backwards feet, reversed hands. Was she undead? It seemed unlikely she was anything else in a body like that. He'd never met such a small undead before! She seemed absolutely in fright, he couldn't seriously be that scary. No, he definitely was not that scary. But he was new, and larger than her and she was only a child.
"Oh," he said, looking as close to face level as he could with the tiny ghoul. With her height, his hand unconsciously found its way to the top of her black hair, resting on her head for a moment before removing it again, "I'm sorry about that. I didn't see you there. I'm afraid I was busy looking around this strange place."

Amrita couldn't help the little flinch when his hand touched her head. He seemed too gentle for her to worry about being smacked or anything, but it was still a legitimate fear! The Vetala was really only a child in body, her actual self was a little older; but she had been in this body for so long she forgot how to 'act her age'. Her gray eye peeked open the longer the hand was on her head, and was fully staring at him again when he withdrew it.
"No no! M-my fault, really! I wasn't paying attention..." She murmured, climbing back to her feet and making a show of pretending to dust herself off, though she really didn't care. Green tinted fingers brushed some hair behind and ear, and with a glance at him she collected her (rather bitey) bag of pet food. "Um...Ha-have you never been here before?" She dared to ask, tilting her head to look up at him through a veil of black hair.

Lucien shook his head, but decided not to argue about whose fault it was. It really didn't matter and it wouldn't change by arguing about it. So instead he just watched her picked up her things before adjusting his position. Now instead of looming over her so much as he was before, he sitting much closer to the floor. He crossed his legs, now looking at her eye to eye.
"Never." He admitted, his blue eyes staring back at the Vetala's gray.
It was the truth, even if he had been here for such a long time already. Lucien wasn't really an indoor sort of person and rarely ever was in his own dorm. He only usually went inside when he had class, or something.
"What about you?" He asked.

Amrita had to admit that she liked it when he got down more to her level. It was always intimidating to have to look up at nearly everyone; the gesture to go down towards her was appreciated, even if that steady blue stare of his was unnerving. The Vetala was a big fan of avoiding eye contact, and he was making it very hard to do. It didn't stop her from smiling lightly, a little pleased blush on her cheek!
"Umm." She started, looking away when keeping contact got too uncomfortable, nibbing gently on what was left of her lip. "Sometimes, to get...food." She said lamely, shrugging to bring the bag back into focus, plus the store behind her. "The pretty clothes don't fit me...so..." Was murmured next, accented by a soft and disappointed sigh. Damn this child's body! One day, she would get a better one, and she can wear really cool things like Tahki and Lizzy could! She never did finish the rest of her sentence.
"Don't...let me keep you from wanderi---uhh, f-floating?" Scrunching up her nose a bit, she tried to figure out just which he did...but she really didn't want to keep him! He was being kind to her, it would be very rude to make him stay if he didn't want to.

Lucien tilted his head a bit, looking at the smaller ghoul as she spoke about pretty clothes that didn't fit her. He wondered why they didn't. Clothes weren't one size fits all, were they? That would really suck, and with that Lucien's mind wandered to thoughts of creatures in clothes that didn't fit. Too tight, and too small; too large and swimming in fabric.
"Why do they not fit?" He pondered, out loud. "Perhaps you could take up sewing?" He suggested. If they didn't fit, she could just tailor them so they fit better on her than they would normally on anyone else! He was going somewhere else with this thought when she suddenly told him that she didn't want to keep him from... floating?
"I have nothing else to do," he said, hoping he hadn't forgotten anything he was supposed to do. "Allow me to accompany you? But first, allow me to introduce myself. My name is Lucien."

Why didn't they fit? Good question. Of course, while she thought about it, her wandering gaze caught sight of a child's clothing store. There were some cute things in there, definitely! But...
"Um...Not 'won't fit'...more, 'won't look nice'?" She hummed, absently tapping the skull half of her face. Since possessing this body it had stopped actively rotting, but there was still the odd mistake. "Can't keep them clean like everyone else." Amrita went on to explain, her voice a little quieter.
"But I---!" She started, then stopped when he introduced himself. Her toes wiggled and curled against the floor in an almost nervous habit, and she went to tuck more hair behind her ear. "I'm Amrita. It's nice to meet you." Rita smiled a bit, looking up at him again.
"I...I was kinda done here." Oooh man this was going to be embarrassing! "I...can'trememberhowtogetbacktothedorms." Embarrassing enough to speak really really fast, apparently. "BUT IF YOU'VE NEVER been to the maul I can show you around!" Clearly, this was an attempt to be less embarrassed about her poor memory.

Lucien looked at the smaller creature, inspecting the exposed skull on her face when she absently tapped on it. He wondered just how that had happened, but not just that. He also wondered how her feet ended up backwards and her hands reversed. He didn't judge the smaller creature when she mentioned not being able to remember how to get back to the dorms though. After all, he didn't even know why he came here. He nodded to her before he stood up from his sitting position.
"I could show you back after you show me around this... place." He suggested to her. He couldn't get the thought about her figure out of his mind though, curiosity flooding his mind and thoughts.
"Amrita," he said, a blunt tone arising. "How did your feet and hands end up like that?" He found himself tapping on his own face before giving a little, "And this?"

That worked! She watched him stand, as always shifting her attention from Lucien to the floor. Hooking the bag's handles on one of her twisted wrists, the Undead girl once more started to play with her hair, waiting for him to give the go ahead to start the little tour. Granted she didn't know much, but she knew enough...or at least hoped she knew enough. On occasion, her white board of a memory tended to clean itself off. It was annoying, but it happened. Even more annoying that it shouldn't happen. Any Vetala worth their weight shouldn't be doomed to such a horrid body. Amrita had lapsed into a momentary dark place, but was pulled rather forcefully by Lucien's blunt call of her name.
"Y-Yes! ...?" She gasped out, her eye wide as though startled. For a while she could only stare at him, a moment or two passing until she looked down at herself, her twisted and reversed hands held out in front of her as though being inspected; her heels where there should have been toes. "Umm..." It was by luck she glanced up and saw him tap his face. THAT one she didn't mind answering so much!
"I don't know...decaying, probably." She murmured, gesturing down to the holes in her sari; more specifically her open chest and right shoulder, where one could see clear through to the bone. As for her hands and feet...maybe he'd believe she just forgot he had asked!
"So...are you ready for that tour...?"

Lucien nodded as Amrita had suggested decay for the cause of her visible skull. He had never had to face the idea of decay, and the idea of it was really rather bizarre to him but he understood the general idea of it and how it was caused. He found himself staring at Amrita's chest though, his big blue eyes glued on her chest. He could see right inside of her! That was probably really uncomfortable.
Lucien was so enveloped in staring at her chest that when she spoke about the tour again his shoulders jumped and he completely forgot about his two unanswered questions. You could always sway a man's mind off track from with a big chest... hole to stare into.
"Oh," he said. "Oh!"
He nodded.
"Yes, I am ready."

It was quite clear to her that he was staring, but considering she was the one that pointed it out...she couldn't really tell him to stop. Instead she sunk her head closer to her shoulders, fidgeting with one of the folds on her old, ripped Sari. The longer he stared the more nervous she got, and by the time he answered her she was looking away, torn lip caught between her teeth and a pretty obvious blush on her fleshy cheek.
Her relief was as subtle as a brick to the head.
"G-great!" She sputtered out after a pretty deep sigh, doubly happy that he seemed to forget she didn't answer his questions. She looked around, swaying her free arm to the store she had just come out of. "I get pet food here...or at least toys for Demon Cat. And...um...W-what kind of things are you interested in?" The small girl settled for poking the tips of her index fingers together, still very much not looking at him.
"It'll help s-so I don't bore you with things...you're not interested in." She wasn't sure why she had to clarify, but she did.

"It is great," he said in reply to her as he found himself looking around, his eyes narrowing in the direction she had pointed: to the store she had just come out of. There were stores for pets? While Lucien had many animal friends, he didn't know there was a store for them. It was probably a good thing she told him otherwise one of these days he'd have to feed them and have nothing! Maybe he'd get them a toy later, if he remembered.
"Hm," he said, noticing the girl was talking to him but not even looking towards him when she directed questions at him. He was interested in knowing why! They should start with that. Then maybe there was a place for goggles! Or goggle cleaner! Goggle polish?! He had almost forgotten what he wanted her to explain when she once again said the word interested. He was interested in that, oh yeah!
"Why do you not look at me when you talk?" He asked, straight and to the point, floating around so he was now facing the direction of her sight. "I'm interested in that, then maybe goggles. Is there a goggle emporium here? But first, what I asked before."

"Umm..." She started, trying to think of a way to once more avoid the situation. At first she was pleased that he suggested goggles; it gave her a way out of the previous conversation, but it also gave her something else to think about. Then, of course, he had to bring back the older question, making her very unable to escape it. Awww maaaaan...this sucked!
"Umm..." Repeating herself seemed pretty common. "I...don't...know?" She lifted her shoulders in a shrug, glancing up at him when he put himself in her line of vision. Her gaze shifted again, more out of nerves now than anything. "Habit, maybe...probably." Habit which started out of disappointment in herself, she added mentally. BUT since she answered his question, she was free to move to the next one!
"I don't think there is a goggle emporium...but some stores might have goggles! Probably this way..." She gestured down one of the halls before she turned and shuffle-walked her way down it. Because of her backwards feet she didn't often lift them off the ground; it was much easier to drag her heels forward then to actually take a step. "Do you always wear your goggles? I have a friend that always wears headphones." Maybe they were alike!
