Woot. Well with Uta's permission I have made this thread for phic writers to bounce ideas off of each other.

I'm working on one currently which is rather odd and is more inspired by PotO than actually based on it. But it's still in my mind a phic... okay, okay, I came up with it in the middle of a black out with candles burning all around my room looking for a ring I have which was part of a set I gave my gf... and I also have inspirations from those pics of Yoka Wao and more...

But I'm working on a modern PotO story, taking place at an arts college in 2006... Christine, Erika, and... I need a female Raoul name but yes it's a yuri story... Um... whomever my female Raoul is going to be is kinda a gender bender... pretty butch looking but still femme-ish attitude... But I plan for it to be long and angsty and... I wanna know if people would read this lol.

So here is your place to respond and pitch ideas for your own phics.

Oooh, that's a good thread. I don't write phanphics, but stupid ideas keep going through my head. xd

I have this one of a serious ALW(musical or movie)/Leroux crossover:

After Erik frees Christine and Raoul, they move to a nearby city to wait for the Persian's "Erik is dead" message. There's a theatre called "Opera Populaire" in that city, and Christine, who still loves to sing, is doing small parts in some performances over there.... and being stalked by ALW!Erik. Shortly, he kidnaps her.

Meanwhile, Erik is waiting for Christine in his cellars, almost dead. He plans on drinking some kind of instantly-killing poison as soon as he hears Christine's footsteps. After a few days, Erik is worried and go look for her. Yeah, he somehow got better. xd

There would be changes in ALW's story, while Leroux's would remain intact. For starters, ALW's Madame Giry, Meg, Firmin Richard, Carlotta and Buquet would be substitued by other characters; ALW!Phantom was unknown to the managers until he kidnapped Christine, and his past is like Movie!Phantom's, and, of course, ALW!Christine and ALW!Raoul wouldn't be there. xd

I also had an idea for a crossover between PotO and The Beauty and the Beast, but I bet that something of the sort has been made already.

@Tulip's idea: I don't think your phic would have many readers, since most modern phics readers wouldn't be too fond of yuri, but I bet someone would read it. xd

I have a few readers now actually and I like that idea too ^-^

Takiko-chan... ALW, not AWL. You're driving my inner spelling-nazi bananas.

But your idea sounds interesting enough. Though... Just off the impression I got from your summary, it seems like it would also make a good humor phic. Christine getting kidnapped by another Phantom. Leroux vs. ALW: Showdown of the 19th Century. Hm.. But I suppose it could be done seriously if you acknowledged the inherent comedy there and worked around it.

I once had a little plot bunny of a similar colour, but it was more or less abandoned for other, more important plots. That and I don't know if POTO can be done in a sci-fi/comedy way. confused A council of Phans convenes and decides to remove the Forsythe adaption from the POTO continuum, but it causes a big rift and all the different versions are jumbled together with characters in the wrong adaptions and the wrong Christines being abducted and lots of general chaos. RE!Erik and Argento!Christine were shacked up somewhere, Swan was trying to turn Gerik into a rock star, Animated!Christine kept bickering with Kay!Erik...
It kept me amused on rainy days.

gonk I can't believe I made such a mistake! It's Harvest Moon's fault... There's a game called "A Wonderful Life", so the abreviation is AWL, and I'm so used to typing and reading it that I ended up misspelling Webber's abreviation. Really really sorry. sweatdrop

I also thought about that idea as a humor phic, but since I don't like them too much (with the exception of Price of Fame: that one's good, and the characters aren't that much OOC yeah, with the donut-addicted Erik...) I prefered it as a serious one.

The versions mix up seems interesting... But since I'm not able to put my hands on most PotO adaptations, I would be really confused. (I'm limited to ALW's musical and movie, half of Argento's movie -it sucked too much to make me watch it to the end, plus, I can't stand excessive gore- and Leroux's book. I'm gonna order Kay's soon, however. Even with the 30 dollars or something shipping fee... sweatdrop )

Price of Fame is awesome. I love Angel. That authoress was so cruel to leave us with a cliffhanger.

If you were going to do it seriously you'd have to be careful... Just because, as I said, the concept is a little funny inherently. But if you kept the tone of it serious without being meladramatic it might could be pulled off. Hmm.. The other thing is that the feel of those two versions are very different. Leroux is a lot more arcane and classical, whereas the movie-verse is very glitzy and pop-rock-ish. Transplanting the Christine and Raoul from Leroux into the movie could work if their characters were tweaked just enough to make them fit the new 'verse, but without changing them into their movie counterparts. And there's the problem with L!Erik just randomly getting better... Maybe you could keep him healthy and just have him read about Christine getting kidnapped again in the paper or something...

Et, yeah. That's another one of the reasons I abandoned that plot. A lot of the humor would be missed if the reader didn't know that Swan, the Raoul from Phantom of the Paradise, was a scheming record producer, or that RE!Erik is a manslut... I'm way too detailed with my humor phics, it's ridiculous. I have over fourty references to various phic cliches in that one parody of Mary Sues.

About that phic idea of mine, I know I'll never, ever write it. I can write good original stories, but I'm not good with fanfics, no matter the topic. I often get ideas for the beginning, but I can never think about an ending, or even the middle of the story... And even if I could write fanfics, my first language isn't English, so my phic would be flooded with poor vocabulary, grammar and spelling mistakes. There would be no point in writing it in Portuguese (my first language), however, since so very few people would read it.

Angel is my favorite character from Price of Fame. whee When he first appeared and Erik wouldn't stop asking "Who are you" I laughed my head off when he said "I'm not an angel, nor a genious, nor a ghost... I am Erik!". Apollo's Lire (sp?) is my favorite chapter of the book, and I'm always quoting that phrase, so it was amusing (and hilarious, due to the context) to see it in a phic.

But details in humor stories make the best jokes. That's why French comedies are the best. The problem is, if you get distracted for a second, you don't understand the joke. sweatdrop

"I'm not an angel, nor a genious, nor a ghost... I am Erik!".:

Dude..personally the best part of the book was "You know who I am, I am the Persian!"

....well THAT was specific.

Looks like the people of the 19th century loved dramatic introdutions.
PostPosted: Sat Feb 04, 2006 8:50 am

They did... I always get the urge to go, 'dun dun DUUUUUN!' when the Daroga introduces himself.

Angel rules. We need an Angel phan club for Price of Fame. He's so very L!Erik, and at the same time he's so amusingly random with his donut obsession. I love when the Daroga is trying to convince him to rescue Raoul. *snrks*

Takiko-chan, the same thing happens to me. I'll just get a beginning, or an ending and nothing to flesh the story out. Really, writing it out helps. Sometimes you get good ideas as you go along. If that doesn't work, mentally blocking the story works for me. And just because you type it up doesn't mean you have to put it online. Write it just to practice the language.

Certain people might laugh here, but I've actually been working on a movie-based phic lately. Yes, with Gerik and everything. And it's not a humor or a parody... But it is going to be very dark and macabre, and involve Christine discovering that she's been ensnared by an a-typical serial killer. (And no, it isn't Gerik... Though he's involved. *evilsnicker*)
My concern is, should I bother publishing it? It might be too dark and out-there for anyone to like, what with the fixation on fluff in movie-verse.
Well, that and I'm poking at the idea of it having hints of E/R slash. *evilsnicker*

E/R! If it's limited to friendship, I'd love it. It's funny, at the same time I enjoy they being rivals (like in I Fought So Hard To Free You... I believe you were the one who told me about this phic, Fox.) I'd like to see Erik and Raoul getting along. But if they got into a love relationship... *shivers*

Dark and morbid phanphics are awesome, but I don't know if I would read a movie one. Anyway, there are many movie phans who read macabre phanphics, so if you write it, I think you should publish it.

Maybe writing my idea would be good... I know I'll have nothing to do until my computer is fixed, so I might try it out. Thanks for encouraging me. ^^

I love when Angel begins teaching Erik so he can go back to his old self. Anyway, I bet he'll use a certain trick on Dracula next chapter... I love predicting stuff, even though I'm often wrong.

No problem. ^__^

Oh, I do hope that's what Erik is up to in Price of Fame. I swear, I was ready to leap out of my seat at the end of the last chapter. Curse you, cliffhangers!

Mmmyep, it's possible I linked to that one.. I know the authors, so I'm always pimping out 'I Fought So Hard To Free You'. That one is going to be good, from what I've heard of the plot planned. If you like them getting along, check out 'A Story of Love' by the same authors. There's a funny scene in which Erik gives Raoul a violin lesson.

I probably will publish that phic, just to see how many people I can shock. Basically, what I was planning for it was something like 'The Robber Bridegroom' crossed with CrimeLibrary. And it involves... Evil!Raoul. But not a stupid evil!Raoul, a cool, intelligent, charming evil!Raoul, somewhat reminiscent of Ted Bundy.
Christine elopes with himimmediately after leaving Erik, only to find out that the two men have staged her entire abduction and rescue as part of a morbid game. And for novelty, Raoul is the one entirely in charge, while Erik is relegated to play his Passarino.

Yes, my brain is diseased, why do you ask?

I already read A Story of Love. Really liked it, but the autors haven't updated in a while. Can you threaten to punjab them if they don't update their phics soon? The violin part was one of my favorites. When Erik entered the attic, I laughed along with him. XD If I was Raoul, I would die of embarasment... Imagine your rival catching you in the most awkward moment of your life?

I hate when people make Raoul dumb only because they dislike him. Well, he was innocent and blinded by love, but Raoul is definitely not stupid! An evil, cool, intelligent and charming Raoul will be so hot. *phangirl giggle* Anyway, with that plot, you will freak out many movie phans. That will be so... amusing.

I like that scene too. Raoul's a good comedic character if you actually keep him in-character. He can be somewhat bumbling in a good-natured sort of way, but he usually catches on pretty quickly. He's definitely not stupid. It's when they turn him into an abusive alcoholic b*****d that annoys me the most, though. Rawr.

*snickers madly* The message has been relayed to the authoress that is currently online. She begs forgiveness, whines that she's terribly lazy, and says that she has been preoccupied with working on rewriting the beginning chapters to make them suck less. Shall I still punjab her?

That's what I was going for, freaking out the movie-phans. *evilsnicker* But in that case, would the hintings of R/E be too much? I know a lot of people hate that pairing, but it just seemed to *fit* in the story. Especially with Gerik being such an uke... At the very least he's going to get bossed around a bit by Raoul.

Gerik bossed around by Raoul? *falls off the chair laughing* That would be the ultimate movie-phan-freaker. And what kind of R/E hints? If it's simply their morbid came, it's not much. But considering the plot of your phic, a stronger hinting could be interesting... <--Might be reading too much shounen-ai manga.

Hoshit. Abusive alcoholic Raoul? Wow, and I used to be annoyed when people made him dumb. Some writers go way too far when they want to force E/C. I admit, I love reading E/C but there's nothing more important than characterization. In my whole phanphic-reading life, I've only seen one IC E/C. gonk

And yes, yes, punjab the authoress. *insert Erik's maniacal laugh here* I think Leroux is influencing me...
