ATTENTION FACEBOOK USERS! Ya know, I was upset when Gaia first started linking to Facebook and giving people the option of finding their friends through it. . . . btw, OPSEC = Operations security This is from an e-mail sent out to military members: Sent on behalf of the 86th Communications Squadron -------------------------------------------------- Attention All Network users: Facebook has recently enabled a tracking "feature" in the form of an app named "PLACES I CHECKED INTO". This app is automatically active on all Facebook accounts until explicitly disabled. This application utilizes the IP address or mobile phone GPS data to identify the precise location where a user logs onto their Facebook profile. The application posts the status on the wall of the user's profile including a map with a push pin showing the user's exact location. Obviously, this has significant OPSEC implications and removes much of the effort of electronic stalking. Included is a guide on how to properly configure this app to ensure the account holder's privacy is protected to the fullest extent possible. Facebook users should properly configure this app's security settings immediately, for both DoD employees and our families, due to the inherent risks and privacy concerns.Hmm. Just what we need. Thanks Facebook! Now every time my sister plays Farmville to pass her down time (She's in the army and up until 6 months ago was in Iraq) the bad guys can know exactly where she is with the click of a status! biggrin All it takes is one hacked account or innocent friend request from an "old classmate" and BAM! Insta-stalking! What it looks like How to Disable
