I've been watching it from the beginning, and ever since Hazel (the youkai-hating churchy dude with the funky hat whee ) showed up, I've been confused for the most part, especially lately.
What I think I know:
Hazel has been hired by Nii to get the Maten Sutra from Sanzo. He also informed Hazel of Sanzo's past, which, I believe, Hazel is using against Sanzo to get him to leave the Ikkou and join up with him.
Hazel, like Sanzo, had seen his master killed before his eyes by youkai. I'm guessing this is what stemmed his hatred for all youkai in general. He has this pendant, that, after killing youkai, he absorbs their souls and... I 'unno, does stuff? I don't quite get it.
Now, at ep. 20, Hazel was successful in convincing Sanzo to leave the Ikkou. It was in RAW, so I don't know what they all said, but Goku got quite upset and walked away, and Gojyo followed, after unsuccesfully trying to get Sanzo to call him back. Hakkai tried to reason with Sanzo, but failed, and this quite noticeably upset Hakkai, who, after muttering a "wakarimashita" (I understand), walks away as well. Sanzo then turns away and walks away with Hazel and Gato, while the others drive away.
crying Really freakin' sad stuff, I tells ya. I wanna know what happens next!

But yeah. You all must watch it now. GUNLOCK = teh awesome, regardless of how crappily-animated it can be at times.

Waaai, my neechan (who goes by the name Anthey Oom) sent me a link of 1/3 of that episode 20 - the best third that is. I wanna cry, seriously, when I saw the interaction between Hakkai and Sanzo.
Maybe it's just me being a krezie 383 fan but I could've sworn Sanzo seemed to be 'pushing' Hakkai away more than he wanted to. I mean, when Gojyo left and Hakkai talked to Sanzo, viewers can't see the blonde's eyes and when he told Hakkai to just leave or go away (something like that), wasn't he gritting his teeth, like he didn't want to push Hakkai away but he had to?
Ok, ok... just my imagination, perhaps. But hey, I did say I am krezie 383 fan!!

And yeah, you know Sanzo totally wanted Hakkai to freak out at him and force him to stay. wink
