They didn't have time for this. Logically, Yuudai was well aware that every second wasted was another where their siblings were gone, possibly married but also possibly just living in sin, tarnishing their reputations faster than he had previously thought imaginable. What made the most sense was for the two of them to set aside their differences and immediately go to the marriage registry, but of course that wasn't going to happen. Not only had Jianyu insulted him in his own home, cornered him against a desk in his own bedroom, but he had used his superior height to drag him down the halls and out of his own family inn so that he could... fight him, apparently. He'd been stony-faced the entire walk, well aware that a commotion would draw the attention of customers, and he had enough dignity to keep familial squabbles just that -- between family members -- but that didn't mean he liked it.
This much was obvious when Jianyu finally released him, Yuudai's face darkening a shade in temper as the other man stripped away his armor. It was childish, but he was just angry enough that he didn't care anymore; motions jerky and hurried, he untied the knot on his apron and threw it aside, annoyed when it landed atop his opponent's armor. Well, that was fine, that was just fine.
"You are ridiculous and I pity you." Truth be told, he was equally ridiculous for agreeing to do this, for giving in to his temper when there were at least a thousand more important things to do, but he couldn't stop himself.
Maybe he didn't need to stop himself. Maybe if they simply got this out of the way, got rid of their anger and frustration at one another, they could work together and take care of their idiot siblings. He knew that he and Ran always felt better after their beat the hell out of one another when they'd been arguing, and this energy had to go somewhere. Somewhere.
"But fine." With that, it was like a switch had been flicked; Ran could have described it, perfectly, the moment of utter stillness right before Yuudai flipped his s**t completely. In the next breath, he had launched himself at Jianyu, not with the intent to kill, but with the simple goal of punching him as hard as he could.
Namely, a brother's brawl.

Jianyu let out a derisive snort, tossing his head the way an unruly stallion might. "Pity?" he repeated scornfully. "Pity is a not a phrase I would like to hear from someone younger than I am, especially when it is coming from your lips."
Yuudai had stripped off his apron, tossing it angrily to the ground where it fluttered uselessly atop of Jianyu's armor. He repressed a grunt of annoyance at that minute detail and instead folded his arms across his chest, glaring at the innkeeper.
Jianyu supposed it was quite idiotic for the both of them being out here, in the wide expanse of grass behind the Koga Inn. After all, they were just wasting time, weren't they? Precious time that they could have used to track down both of their ridiculous siblings and verify that they had, in fact, been married legally so as to prevent further embarrassment on their families. But Jianyu wasn't about to let Yuudai treat him as if he were a four year old child throwing a tantrum.
Besides, he was somewhat...interested in this fight, though he was attempting to keep himself from admitting that. It would be a good form of training, at the very least.
Yuudai was unnaturally silent. Jianyu eyed him suspiciously, uncrossing his arms.
"Cat got your tongue?" he asked peevishly just before the innkeeper threw himself forward, hitting him across the middle and sending the both of them staggering backwards. Jianyu's head cracked against the hard packed dirt and grass, and he let out a string of curses, blocking Yuudai's fist with his arm.
"You little b*****d - ow!"
Yuudai's other hand had managed to catch him across the jaw, sending spirals of pain ricocheting through Jianyu's head. He growled angrily, bringing his knee up to press against Yuudai's stomach. Shoving hard, he flipped them over, landing on top of Yuudai this time and seizing both of his wrists.
"That hurt, you know."

He was intensely satisfied with landing a hit on Jianyu, even if his knuckles ached a little bit from the blow, as they always did. Hand-to-hand combat was not necessarily his forte, as he tried to respect his hands as much as he could: he needed them to cook with, after all. Still, a brawl between relatives was hardly any place for weapons, so he would take his lumps and bruises and hopefully not break anything in the process.
His triumph was short lived, however, when Jianyu rammed his knee into his stomach, flipping him over easily so that his head struck against the ground and he saw bright patches of light flutter in front of his face. Or no, maybe that was just the beads in his hair -- regardless, Yuudai gasped for breath, his stomach rolling from the hit that had caught him completely off guard, and he was annoyed to find his wrists restrained above his head.
Well, ******** glad it hurt," he managed, and then, because he was pinned, his options were limited. He began to thrash, bucking his hips and kicking his legs wildly, knowing that he would be difficult as hell to hold onto -- it was a tactic he'd employed with Ran's brothers many, many times in the past.
Of course, amidst his wild flailing he often hurt himself in the process of getting free, but when his forehead connected with Jianyu's again, he simply swore loudly, closing his eyes tight against the bright, blossoming pain. Head swimming, he dimly realized this had been a bad idea after all -- the fight had barely begun and already he was feeling the effects of it in his head and gut.
It was too late to back down, though. When he finally managed to throw Jianyu off him it was at great cost; he scrambled back on the ground, breathing heavily, and spat blood to his side.
Then he launched up again.

For a few brief seconds, Jianyu was satisfied with the fact that he had managed to pin Yuudai down. However, his satisfaction was demolished much too soon, however, when the innkeeper began to twist beneath him, jerking his body upwards in an attempt to free himself. Jianyu was losing his grip on Yuudai's wrists - hand-to-hand combat had never exactly been one of his strong points - but he gritted his teeth, his fingers tightening.
"You little - ow! Goddess Lunaria - !"
Yuudai had managed to (accidentally or on purpose, Jianyu wasn't quite sure) ram his forehead against his a second time, letting out a curse. Jianyu himself let more obscenities escape from his lips (he had been spending way too much time with Bataar lately) as a lightning bolt of pain shivered down his spine. His fraction of hesitation at that gave Yuudai enough leverage to throw him off, and Jianyu fell sideways, rolling onto his stomach. He coughed, wiping his mouth and stood, reaching a hand up to rub his bruised forehead.
"You have got," he hissed irritatedly. " - to stop doing that."
Jianyu was beginning to regret the idea of fighting Koga Yuudai. While it had seemed like such a good concept at the time, here, in the moment, it was merely an annoyance. However, he obviously couldn't stop right in the middle.
Jianyu scowled, just as Yuudai moved towards him again. This time Jianyu ducked low, barreling into the innkeeper and wrapping his arms around his stomach, sending him reeling backwards into a nearby tree, which they both collided with. Jianyu straightened, pulling his fist back and aiming it for Yuudai's face.

Being small and slender was very rarely an advantage for a man. In private, Yuudai cursed his figure nearly nightly, constantly annoyed that he would always be a lightweight when it came to battle. That was fine when it came time to be quick on his feet, and he'd taken more than one opponent by surprise in such a fashion, but the fact was, he took a lot of hits a lot harder than a more substantial person would have. He might win a fight but he would limp away from it, and in the end, that meant he had to train harder and longer than everyone else to be equally effective.
It also meant that when he was thrown bodily into a tree he felt it through his entire body. It shamed him, but he uttered a strangled cry, startled and disoriented enough that he bit down hard on his tongue. Blood pooled in his mouth and he coughed, spraying blood over Jianyu's fist as it connected and wrenched his head to the side.
Unable to do much else, he clawed at the other man, blood pouring down his chin as he took advantage of his untrimmed nails to rake scratches down his cheeks. He grabbed fistfuls of his hair, yanking on it as hard as he could as he drove his knee up, aiming for whatever was convenient and fleshy -- he didn't even care, his head was swimming and he had to do something to get the other man off him long enough so that his vision could settle and he could properly retaliate.
The brawl was turning ugly, fast. His body ached everywhere already, he could barely draw breath for the gnawing pains in his stomach, and he was certain that if they kept this up, Jianyu was going to have to help him walk away from the battle.
His pride would not handle being carried to the registry, however.

It had gone from just sort of violent to I will kill you within a matter of seconds. Blood from Yuudai's cough spattered Jianyu's face and he flinched away, reaching a hand up to wipe at his face, tasting copper on his tongue. Before he could react, however, Yuudai's hands were up, scratching at Jianyu's face with an almost desperate fury, his knee ramming hard into his stomach as he yanked on his hair. Jianyu let out a strangled cough, turning his head away in an attempt to avoid the onslaught, but Yuudai's anger was determined, and Jianyu let out a startled growl as he felt blood begin to slide down his face.
Snarling, Jianyu dropped one of his hands, looping it underneath Yuudai's raised leg. His other hand went around the innkeeper's back, and in one swift moment he had yanked Yuudai away from the tree and shoved him down to the ground once more. It seemed the only way to keep him from getting his eyes clawed out, and Jianyu's head was spinning, his vision wavering slightly as he gripped both of Yuudai's wrists. He sat back on his legs this time, to keep him from flailing about, keeping Yuudai's arms pinned above his head with one hand as he leaned over him.
"Had enough yet, brother?" Jianyu managed to get out, but it wasn't as nearly as mocking or taunting as it had been earlier. If anything, it was filled with a wary, almost vague irritation, and Jianyu coughed, turning his face to the side as he spat out a mouthful of blood onto the grass, staining the green stems red. He wasn't entirely sure if he was ready to give up the fight yet, however, so regardless of what Yuudai answered, Jianyu was half tempted to slug him right in the face to be obnoxious. But the other half of him knew the exhaustion and pain of fighting, knew that Yuudai was younger than he was, that fighting with him would most likely wear out Yuudai more than it would Jianyu.
Although it still hurt like hell. Jianyu coughed again, the movement spasming up through his stomach. s**t...

Breathing was a little difficult, thanks to the pain that was reverberating up and down his ribs, and normally Yuudai would have done his best to mask that. The fact of the matter was, however, he couldn't; his body ached, everywhere, and drawing breath was like raking knives over his lungs after the impact with the tree. Blood coated his chin, and his tongue was still bleeding from where he'd bitten down on it; his back was on fire, his stomach tight, head ringing. After his recent scuffle with Ran the very last thing he should have done was pick a fight with someone else, but his pride and temper had gotten the better of him, so there was little to be done, now.
It was uncomfortable with Jianyu sitting on top of him and he was acutely aware that his arms were pinned over his head again. He couldn't even thrash or buck the other man off, because he'd settled his weight atop Yuudai's thighs. Maybe if the fight had just begun this would be no problem, but he was hardly in the best shape at just that moment. Jianyu didn't pull his punches, something that Yuudai could reluctantly respect even if he didn't want to admit it, and as he was presently pinned beneath him, he had to admit that this battle was lost. It was stupid to keep going, stupid to push themselves past their limits when they had something so much more important to deal with, but --
But he still didn't want to just give up.
He jerked at his arms bad-temperedly, but Jianyu didn't lessen his grip. So, breath hissing painfully past his teeth, he managed, "You're a big man, Qian Jianyu, holding me down and taunting me."
Turning his head to the side, he attempted to spit blood, but his ribs and his stomach hurt so much that he only managed a half-hearted motion. Blood leaked from the corner of his mouth, sliding down his neck and into the collar of his shirt, and he groaned despite himself.
He hurt like hell. But still...
Because he was only holding him with one hand, Yuudai managed to free his right hand from Jianyu's grip. Even though he knew it was a bad idea, he swung out one last time, at least wanting the satisfaction of not taking his defeat lying down, though he was well aware this battle was over.

He was exhausted. Fighting with Yuudai was somehow much more tiring than fighting with Bataar. Which was saying a lot, considering that Jianyu was constantly losing to Bataar. But maybe that was it. Maybe it was because he was actually winning this fight that made it more wearying.
Either that, or he was just getting rusty in his old age.
Jianyu reached up, swiping at his mouth with the back of his hand. It came away bloody; he had cut his lip, probably from one of Yuudai's violent and somewhat frantic scratching at his face. It stung when he touched it, and there was a rather unpleasant metallic taste in his mouth that was making his head spin. Jianyu coughed again, staining his fingers red.
"I never taunt." he said. "Merely state the truth."
Jianyu had not expected Yuudai to take that last swing at him. He jerked backwards automatically, only just barely missing the clenched fist the innkeeper railed towards him. It surprised him, caught him off guard. Jianyu's hand instinctively shot out, catching Yuudai's wrist again as he stared down at him. Jianyu had won - they both knew that - but Jianyu tilted his head, looking at Yuudai curiously.
"You're pinned, yet you still try...to hit me?" he said, as if trying to clarify something. The fact that Yuudai was unwilling to take his defeat laying down was somewhat...unexpectedly interesting.
Though Jianyu did not quite like that he was entertained by that. He slowly let his fingers fall away from Yuudai's wrists and leaned back again, resting part of his weight back on the innkeeper's legs, though not nearly as much as he had been.
"I think it best that we stop this now." he said. "Otherwise you might not be able to walk tomorrow."
Reaching behind him, Jianyu tugged at the sash around his waist until it came undone and fell away in his hand. He bent forward, pressing it against Yuudai's jaw where the blood was sliding down, attempting to wipe away some of the sticky liquid. If they were going to go to the magistrate's office, they had to at least look presentable, right? That was why he was doing it. Not because he felt guilty.
No. Not at all.
"Next time I won't go so easy on you."

The hit didn't land, but he didn't exactly expect it to. His temper simmered at that but didn't spike; he honestly didn't have the energy to be angry just then, not after the beating he'd just taken. He would have simply let his arm fall back to the grass but that was impossible when Jianyu stopped it, held his wrist, so he merely glowered from his place on the ground. Gradually, his heartbeat would stop hammering at his ribs, he was certain, but until then, he was quite content to remain just where he was.
If it hurt to be still, he could only imagine what sort of pain he would endure when he got up and tried moving around. It was his own fault, he knew, but he still wasn't looking forward to it. He would, however, get to his feet and go to the registry office with Jianyu, because that was his responsibility, and when they were finished he would return home and do all of his regular chores, even if he knew he would want to die a little bit as he scrubbed the baths that evening. You reaped what you sowed, though, and he was hardly going to shirk his responsibilities because he had indulged his temper.
If anything, it would be a good lesson for him.
It surprised him when Jianyu pressed his sash lightly to the side of his face, enough that Yuudai immediately jerked his cheek away. Color flooded his face again, but this time it was embarrassment -- he was generally the one taking care of others, not being tended to -- and his eyes were cautious, wary as the other man applied surprisingly gentle pressure to the wound, mopping the blood as best he could. It was an awkward silence that descended between them, Yuudai not knowing entirely what to say, until Jianyu broke it and he scowled.
"Next time, brother, I'll have to tuck you into bed when we're finished." Because he was embarrassed he didn't quite look Jianyu in the eye; he snatched the sash himself and held it against his face, muttering, "Thank you." in the most ungrateful tone he'd ever used.
Hmph.

For a moment, Jianyu was irritated that Yuudai had pulled away. After all, he had been trying to show him a gesture of kindness (all right, an unexpected one, but a gesture all the same!) and Yuudai jerking away made it seem like he was being ungrateful. He opened his mouth to say something, but Yuudai slowly relaxed, keeping his eyes turned away as Jianyu wiped off the blood. It was sticky and wet, turning the gold fabric a muted scarlet.
Jianyu wasn't exactly sure why he was doing it. Presentable, right? he reminded himself as he worked. I'm doing this so we can at least look slightly presentable when we go to see the magistrate's records for our siblings. That's all. That's it.
That nagging guilt in his stomach was just imagined. Right? Right.
Jianyu let out a derisive snort, pausing in his movements. "Good luck with that." he said, then blinked when Yuudai grabbed the sash from his fingers, holding it against his own face. Jianyu felt the beginnings of a scowl cross his face, but then he heard the muffled, irritated "Thank you" and almost smiled.
Almost. As it was he stood up, brushing off his pants and before he could take it back, held out his hand towards Yuudai.
"Let's go." he said.
"And I'll want that sash back, by the way. Cleaned."
