It had been months since he had seen any members of his family. Time with the flock seemed to have flowed together into a lump of time and memory in the stallion’s mind. His time as a slave was filled with interesting new information and he was able to learn about a new culture; that had been his goal from the beginning. But now as he looked back at the time he spent living with the harpies he felt as if he left something of importance behind; nothing clear came to mind.
While he was a slave, a slight worry had settled over him about his mother, it had been over nine months since he last saw or heard from her. He believed it was due time for him to visit her, the only problem, Isabliss was constantly on the move. The great detective knew that he would be able to find his mother in record time, since all the clues where in place and they would be easy to follow.
As it turned out the clues lead to a small clearing that Isabliss had visited the night before, her chamomile like scent still hung in the air. Soon the son would be reunited with the mother.

Night had passed and the new day had begun; the sun rose slowly into the sky and lit up the autumn filled world. The scent of dried leaves tickled the angeni’s nose as she made her way through the woods, enjoying the peacefulness that settled over her like a cloak. Time had passed and it slowly healed the wounds that had been pierced into the mare’s heart, but she knew that more time would need to pass before she would be completely healed and no longer wander with a broken heart. As she wandered, her mind would wander as well; it would veer toward her two sons and wonder where they were now.
Have they experienced the feeling of love? Have they felt the sting of heartbreak? Was she already a grandmother? All these questions she had, and yet they could only continue unanswered. She was not a detective like her son, so how would she find her two babies? She could not; they would have to find her.
Isabliss gave a resigned sigh, and her heart lifted at the whisper of the wind, one of her sons was on his way and he was close. The mare stopped where she wandered, there was not any clear points of reference to help determine her position in the woods, even the sun was blocked out by the think leaves of the branches above.

She was close, her hoof prints were becoming fresh, she had only walked this path an hour before. Wystan shook his head, causing stray red and black stands of hair to fall in front of his eyes; a slight smile crossed his continence, his mother constantly traveled and never did she sleep. As a foal, he would wake in the middle of the night to see his mother standing a distance away staring at the stars. Wystan always wondered what his mother thought about on those nights, even he, the detective did not know. He had made an educated guess that her thoughts were on his father and Wys did not want to upset his mother by asking.
In the distance a grey figure stood in the middle of the path, her long hair barely touching the ground; to her son, the angeni looked relaxed, calm and truly happy to see her son.

Wystan, she should have know that he would be one to find her, he was a Great Detective after all. Isabliss gave a joyous smile to her son, he looked healthy and he had more muscle than before, “Wystan, honey, it is lovely to see you!” Isabliss had long gotten over the fact that Wystan looked like his father, her son was a cross between his two parents and very different in personality. The mother’s thoughts traveled to her other son, “Wystan, have you seen your brother?” The last Isabliss had heard about Alistair was that he had gone to search for his father, but that had been months ago.

Wystan shook his head sadly, “Sorry Mother, I haven’t seen him since we went all our separate way. And I have been unable to search for him these past few months.” His mind went back to the months in the Flock and a soft smile appeared on his face as he thought about the blue harpy mare. Anya, her icy blue appearance and her commanding personality that was hard not to enjoy, life in the flock was an experience he would not soon forget. The Angeni stallion really did care for her and knew he could have embraced the Flock lifestyle, but the escape of the males just muddled his quick firing mind. Would he have stayed if the Griffins had not attacked?
The Angeni shook his head, there was no point in thinking about what ifs, that was the past and there was nothing left but the present and the future. Wystan looked over his mother, she looked as well as a mare could who did not sleep, “Have you seen any interesting lands lately Mother?” The detective in him was thirsty for tales of foreign lands and mysteries that she may have stumbled upon.

Isabliss gave a slight nod, she knew that it was fruitless to ask, but she wanted to know if her sons had kept in contact with each other. Her eyes sharpened on her son, he was not telling her what had kept him from searching; his words were clue enough that he was caught in some sort of situation, “Wystan, what happened?” Worry began to fill the Angeni mother, what could have happened to her son in those months past?

“Mother, there is nothing to worry about,” he had noticed her brow move as she tried to contemplate what would cause him to be unable to achieve anything, “I was captured by the Harpy mare Anya, I had actually wanted to be captured by her, because I wished to learn about the Flock customs. Anya made me her pet and I spent months learning the ways of the Flock and actually started to form feelings for the lovely blue mare… but the enemy of the flock attacked and in the confusion I was whisked away with the other captive males.” He looked closely at his mother, waiting to see her reaction. He was sure that with all her travels she had heard about the Flock, the herd of Harpy Mares who captured males and had the stallions become their pets; the detective was not sure about what rumors she had heard, and he was prepared to tell her the truth of the Flock: that it really wasn’t that bad to be a pet.

The information that her son just gave her was a surprise, he had spent months as a pet to a mare known as Anya. In all of her travels Isabliss had yet to encounter a harpy or the Flock; the north wind had not called her in that direction, but it appeared that destiny had her son take her place in that area. With only the eyes of a mother, she was able to see that her son had feelings for the mare, “You loved her. Why did you leave if you felt so strongly for the harpy mare? And son, please do not say it was because of me.” Isabliss gave her son a hard stare, she had walked away from love once because she was too afraid of what would happen if he did not truly love her; she did not want her son to suffer the same fate.

A slight blush appeared on the stallion’s countenance, did he truly love Anya? Yes he did. “I told you why I left; I was carried away with the crowd.” He looked chagrin when his mother continued to look at him, “I do not know why I did not turn back and go back to her, I know I should have, but something kept me from returning. I am not sure how to describe it Mother, it is almost like I was not meant to be a part of the flock for more than a short while. But that is silly, just a feeling that has no place in scientific inquires.” His thoughts returned to the mare, what was she doing now? Did she have a new pet to keep her nest warm at night? Why did that thought hurt him so much? He had left her, and he had to accept that cold hard fact. Was this what his mother felt, when she left his father? This pain, the sense of betrayal? Wystan shook his head, he was over analyzing himself and it would not lead to a solved case, but to a severe headache.

She frowned when Wystan began repeat what he had previously told her, but as she continued to stare down her son, he finally unleashed the reason. Her heart went out to her detective son who did not believe in the mystical of the earth, even if his own mother spent most of her life following the wind. “Do I have grandchildren?” It had been awhile since her two boys were foals and she missed the youthful exuberance of younglings.

Wystan froze in his internal musings, grandmother? What made her ask that question? He turned his icy blue stare to his mother, his eyes in shock at her blunt question, “N-no.” For once in his life he stuttered, completely caught off guard and not sure what to say to the sleepless mare standing before him, “No, you are not a grandmother, I did share a nest with Anya, but she was not pregnant when she left. If she was heavy with child I would not have left her, I would have gone against the flow of males to be with the mother of my children.” He was positive that Anya was not pregnant, he would have noticed if she was and she would have expressed her discomfort at being fat and that he was the one who caused the bulginess. “Do you think I would leave my own babies behind?” He was not sure whether to be hurt or angry at his mother; he let out a sigh, “I’m sorry mother, I did not mean to snap, you just caught me by surprise. I have this fear deep in my stomach that she was pregnant and I abandoned her in her time of need.”
