Oh, it was so dark out right now! "Aw, no~" Maile cried out somewhat childishly with a small pout on her face, making her way through the dry grass. Such a shame that the sun had to go away. She had been taking such a nice nap out in the open, sprawled out over a nice, sun-warmed patch of dirt. Imagine her surprise when she had woken up to a darker view of the world around her. Had she really slept that long? Hmph. Impossib-... Well, actually, it happened to her a lot. She'd fall asleep and wake up confused as hell. And hungry. The lioness let out a soft yawn, jaws stretching a moment before they closed shut. Her eyes half-lidded, Maile cast a lazy gaze to look around.
Dark... More dark.. Ooh, neat~ Some glowing feline eyes! Was the thing looking at her? The female tried to get a better look at the smaller thing, tilting her head up and giving a sway of her tail.
'Oh, it ran off.' She said to herself in her head, ears twitching as she watched the mysterious creature skitter off into the grass. Everything was so dark!
..It was all starting to make her a bit drowsy. Again. 'No, Maile. You should get something to snack on before flopping off to sleep again.' She drummed her front toes at the thought, contemplating whether or not to seek out any of the sleeping birds that were bound to be around the area. Stalking up to one might be even easier at this time of night. And she was feeling lazier than usual, so.. Maile gave a lick at her lips as she reached her decision.
Yes, time to stalk some of those fine-feathered friends.

It had been a long day for the large lion, the trek across the barren landscape from his previous resting place had seemed endless, the river had been wide and deep, taking nearly all his imposing strength to swim across it. After dragging himself out the other side wet and exhausted, that damn hyena band had decided to use him for a bit of sport and had harassed him all the way across the territory till he ran into a rogue male. At least he had been all right, and the pair had finally chased the baying hyenas off with enraged roars and savage charges.
After thanking the male and getting directions, Sliabh had set off again, finally ending up here, too exhausted to bother to hunt, where he head flopped down on the dry earth that still retained the heat of the day as the shadows began to draw across the landscape, and soon enough, sleep had found him, drawing him into a deep slumber. The male's dark coat blending away into the coming night and the dust so thick on the rest of him that his pale markings were all but hidden from view.
Yet apparently, fate had not done with him yet...
"OOF!" A rough, sleepy grunt whooshed from him as a paw was planted solidly on his chest, startling him from his sleep as the breath rushed from his lungs.

"Oof!" Suddenly, she had stepped in something. Or rather, on something. 'The heck?' Softer than normal ground, muscled, and furry, apparent by the fur tickling at the bottom of her paw.. Wait, wait, wait. What? "Eh?" Maile pulled her paw back to her own chest, taking a surprised step back away from whatever strange carcass she had squished a paw onto. A child-like smile came over her lips as she shook her head. Gross. The female gave a glance at her paw, looking it over for any bits of remains that might have gotten stuck to it before shifting here eyes to see exactly what she had stepped on.
A lion.
'A-.. another lion. How... What? You're kidding me.' Her smile remained on her face all the while as she blinked in surprise. Setting her lifted paw back down, Maile looked the male over curiously. Was he dead? Hm. He didn't smell like it. And he had made a noise when she had gone and oh~so kindly stepped on him. Moving forward, she gave a snuffle at his mane before nudging his cheek with her nose gently.
That was good, he wasn't dead! He didn't look hurt or anything either. "Hey. Rise and shine." The female said with a wag of her gray tufted tail, raising her head away from his to look down at him from above. What on earth had he been thinking, just dozing off in the middle of the savannah?
..Then again, she had her fair share of odd sleeping spots.

Taking a deep breath as the weight lifted back off he groaned softly, woozy with sleep and barely even aware he was actually.. kinda awake now. It wasn't until something warm pressed into his mane and then his cheek that he blinked bleary, sleep-filled eyes open.
"Whaaaa...?" His deep voice rumbled, thick with sleep and barely making sense.
Licking his maw to try and regain his voice, he rolled his head over, looking up at the shadowy figure looming above him. A... lioness...? Letting loose a massive yawn he turned his head back, for she had come up behind him, and with a huff of breath, rose up onto his paws, massive body uncurling as he stood, shaking out the mass of thick mane that flowed over his neck and muscular shoulders.
The dark-coated lion was huge. Not bulky, but tall. Enough that he towered over the female as he blinked sleepy amber eyes down at her. After submitting to another healthy yawn he dropped his rear to the ground and blinked. "Greetings.... "
Not altogether sure where he was, what was going on or who this stranger was, he struggled to wake his mind up enough to be sociable, though after only an hour's nap, he was barely awake as it was.

Maile couldn't help but let out a soft chuckle under her breath as she slowly awoke. Males, well actually, anyone waking up unexpectedly was always sort of comical. Taking a step back as he rose, her mouth formed a small circle as she realized just how big this other lion was. Wow, he was tall! Thank goodness he didn't seem like the mean sort. Sitting herself down with a soft thump on the ground, tail going over the ground with a light sweep to curl around her paws, she eyed the lion with curiosity.
How interesting! His markings were pretty neat. Such pretty shades of blue against that black base coat of his. And then those orange eyes! They just popped out stunningly against those colors masking his face.
"Hello to you too." Maile said in greeting, giving a nod of her head and giving a grooming lick to the back of her paw. "I'm sorry for just going and stepping on you." She gave an apologetic smile, wagging her tail once or twice before letting it settle in front of her feet. "But you were lying there in the middle of everything. Why sleep there....?" Her voice trailed off as she came to realize she didn't know this stranger's name.

He felt her gaze roam over him, but only blinked sleep-hazed amber eyes at her, not at all upset by the slow curious examination as he worked on waking up enough to be compos mentis. At her greeting he managed a wan smile, dark mane falling across his face as he shook his head in reply to her apology, though before he could gather his wits enough to speak she continued.
Smothering another huge yawn he forced his mind awake, the cogs slow and thick with sleep, making his voice deeper than usual, a subtle rough texture that gave him a husky, rumbling tone. "The ground was still warm here...." Lifting his head he glanced at the large rock to the side that had been part of the reason he had chosen this spot, the rock face had radiated heat as the sun's last rays died over the horizon and it had been a nice place to lay down. Before he had realised, he had been fast asleep.
Lowering his shaggy head to rub a cheek against one foreleg, he took a moment to order his thoughts, only belatedly realising he hadn't introduced himself. "Ah... I'm Sliabh..."
