Faraji was very very fond of his sisters. To him, they were the best playmates in the world, and excellent sources of snuggles when they slept all piled together. He treated them gently, though they did often romp and play rough games. If he ever managed to accidentally hurt one, he was mortified.

Today it was just himself and Parveneh during play time. Everyone else was off doing something else somewhere else, but Faraji didn't mind a bit. He bounded over and wrapped an affectionate paw over his sister's shoulders and groomed her ear earnestly. "Wanna play, sis?" His tail waved in wild gyrations behind him, showing that although he was being affectionate, he actually was feeling quite mischievious. As if to prove his interest, he suddenly wrapped his other paw around her neck and growled playfully, bowling her over.

Parvaneh was happy when her other siblings had gotten the chance to go out, but also sad that she'd been left behind. She wished her father had had time to play, if just for a little bit. Determined to wait for their return, she'd found a semi-shady spot that watched the direction(she hoped) they'd return from.

That was until her brother showed up. She giggled as he groomed her ear, "Faraji!" Her paws tried to wrap around, but just not quite reaching. She nibbled playfully on his legs. "Sure! Wha'cha wanna play?" Always Parvaneh was ready to join someone else's game. With her brother she knew it would be fun and he'd be very careful not to hurt her.

He paused in his gnawing and thought. "I dunno. We could play... uh...," he mumbled to a halt, blinking. What should they play? Something fun, of course. But what? He wasn't exactly in the mood for the everyday sort of games. He wanted something different! Thus it was that his imagination kicked in and he grinned suddenly down at her, clambering off so she could sit up and listen.

"I have an idea, but it means we both have to play by the rules," he began excitedly. It might not have worked with lots of cubs, because it just took one person not playing it right to spoil the fun. "One of us covers our eyes and counts to ten, and the other goes to hide." Of course everyone knew hide and seek, but he held up a paw to forestall any protest from her that she already knew this game.

"But when the seeking cub gets close, the hiding cub RUNS!" He hopped up and down in place out of excitement. "If the running cub gets away, they get to hide again! But if they get tagged, they gotta count." His enthusiasm was infectious, and he bounced around in a circle as a further show of his joy at the game idea. "What do you think? Wanna play?"

Parvaneh distractingly groomed her brother's chin until he let her sit up. She scrambled to her feet then sat down with her tail curled around her legs to listen. "Does that mean you wouldn't play by the rules if it was any other game?" She didn't think her brother would cheat, but it didn't hurt to ask.

When he started to describe hide-n-seek she opened her mouth to protest. Everyone played that game. Her jaw snapped shut when he held up his paw. Well if he had a different idea.... Her head tilted to the side. "But....." It was still basically hide-n-seek, though she was game to try it.

"Where do we run too?" Was it different than normal? If it was, then what decided they had run enough? These thoughts bubbled up in her mind and she shifted restlessly wanting to ask. "Will you count first?" She turned cute green eyes on her brother.

"Aw, a'course I will!" he declared valiantly. He'd do positively anything for his sisters. If Parvaneh wanted him to go first, he'd do so happily. He licked her once more in effusive affection, then hunkered his front end down, paws wrapped around his head. Despite how low his front end was, though, his hind end stuck straight up in the air, with his tail waving wildly in his excitement.

From under his paws, he called to her. "Now you go run and hide, and if you think I'm getting close, you run away to find a new hiding spot!" It occurred to him suddenly how funny it'd be if the one hiding could pounce the seeking cub and then run, but it was too late now to change the rules! "Ready... set... go!"

Paws over his eyes, tail waving in time to his counting, he began to count slowly. "One...... two....... free..... fooooor....,"

She beamed at her brother through his affectionate licking. Happy that he was going to be it first, she muffled her giggles and playfully pawed at his tail. Oh! She was suppose to find a new spot to hide. Parvaneh hoped it wouldn't be too hard.

A hiding spot. Pattering on soft paws, she went to seek a hiding spot. There was a tree! No, it was too small to hide her very well. She went further and found a fairly thick clump of grasses. It might work. Tilting her head she listened for her brother's voice. He sounded so close to ten.

Parvaneh wiggled into the middle and peered out with her green eyes. Would he find her?

"Ten!" he bawled almost at the top of his lungs and leapt up with a bounce. He'd heard which way she'd gone! Or so he'd thought. With a merry yowl he charged off... in the wrong direction! He bounded through some patches of dirt, a rambling viney weed, and then plunged head first into a flowering bush. "FOUNDYOoooo.....," he trailed off as he realized no, he had not found his sister!

He backed out of the bush, grunting as large, blunt thorns poked his fur. They didn't exactly hurt, but he wasn't happy to have braved the bush, only to discover he'd guessed wrong! He gave a huff once he was out, tail lashing back and forth. Where could she have gotten to? He gave a cubby growl, stalked ina circle, then spotted a low tree/bush. Maybe she'd climbed it?

With a happy trill he shot off towards the tree, which was even further from his sister's actual hiding place than the bush had been. With scraping claws and grunts of effort he hauled himself up the short trunk and onto the first branch that would sort of support his weight. "Pawva?" he called uncertainly, balancing precariously as he peered about the inside of the tree, searching in vain for her. "You here?"

He swiveled his head a little too far, tipped his balance further than the branch could handle, and found himself falling. With a rather more frantic yowl, he clawed at the low trunk in a panic as he slid to the ground. He landed with a thump, unharmed, though feeling rather like he was having less fun at this than he had thought he would. His breath was knocked from him, and he sprawled in a furry heap for a moment, slightly stunned.

The little lioness cub quivered as she heard her brother bawl his last number. He was coming for her! She tried to control her excited quivering lest the grasses sway and give her away. It took her a moment to realize he'd gone the wrong way. A paw covered her mouth to stifle her giggles. Her brother was so funny!

She tried peeking through the grass tuff she hid in to see what Faraji was doing next. Her ears could barely catch his voice as he called trying to find her. Stay low, keep hidden, and keep your butt down. She thought to herself. It would be ironic if her buns sticking out over the grasses gave her away.

When he climbed up a short way into the tree, she held her breath. He could so easily spot her from up there. Should she try to move or stay put? The black cub was just about to bolt from her hiding spot when she saw her brother loose his balance.

"Faraji!!" She squealed in panic and bolted toward him. As she reached him, Parvaneh frantically licked his face. "Faraji speak to me!"

"Mrph," he responded in a mumble, "hard to talk when yer sister is givin yuh too much luvins!" He pawed at her gently, both a caress and a way to get her off him. His head kinda hurt in an achey sort of way, and he didn't think he was up for following her at a run anymore. He rolled to a sitting position and gave a grunt of discomfort. "Can we play somefing else now, Pawva?" He brushed dirt out of his topfur with one paw. "I don't think I wanna play that much more." Nevermind that it had been his own idea! He eyed her speculatively. "Though I did catch you!" He lightly tapped her shoulder with one paw. "Tag?" He broke into giggles that seemed to magically make his head hurt less. Yes, sisters were the best medicine, surely.

She gave a soft giggle, but politely backed up when he spoke. He was alright and her heart stopped pattering. "You shouldn't have climbed up there!" She watched him for other signs he might have injured something.

"Course we can Fara. It's hot anyhow. Lets go get a drink first." She gave another giggle as he tagged her. "Yup! You won that one." Her tail flicked against him affectionately. Parvaneh pondered hard. What could they play that wouldn't be high activity.

"What about I spy?" She looked at him hopefully.

A drink sounded heavenly just then. He clambered to his feet and set off in the direction of drinkable water. Truthfully he didn't much feel like playing I Spy, but it was only fair. He'd chosen the first game, as disastrous as that had turned out, so it made sense to let her choose their second game. Besides, making his sister happy was of greater importance than making himself happy. So he nodded his head in agreement. "Okay Pawva," he answered her. "You go first."

His head was still hurting some, and the bright sun seemed to make it worse. He strove to keep this from her, though, so that she wouldn't worry. Bad enough he'd frightened her once already. So he bravely squinted about as they padded along and waited for her first clue. He opened his mouth to pant faintly, cooling himself but making his tongue even drier than it already was. Oh yes, water sounded wonderful right now!

Parvaneh purred happily. I Spy was much safer! Her brother was so nice to let her go first. She pattered along behind her brother. Now what should she pick? The cub peered around thoughtfully. Just then the waterhole came into view. She stifled her giggle lest she give herself away.

"Alright. I spy something blue!" She was sure he'd never pick something right under his nose. Once at the water's edge she crouched down for a good long drink. Finally sated she sat up with water dripping from her chin.

He made sure his sister was getting a drink before he plunged his own muzzle deep in the water and pretty much inhaled the thirst-quenching liquid. Slaked, he gingerly laid down and stared up at the sky a moment, not particularly feeling like looking for something but knowing he'd agreed to it. He flipped his tail around a bit and pondered without much effort on her clue. Blue. Blue. What was blue?

It occurred to him he was staring right up at something that was very definitely blue. Feeling clever, he announced after a random space of time, "The sky!" She thought she could pull one over on him like that... ha, not he! He rolled so he could see her, a playful gloating look on his face. He'd won, and on first try!

Parvaneh gave a playful giggle; she'd tricked her brother. Her front paws danced a little as she sat. "Nope! Guess again Faraji." She gave a happy grin. This was a good way to spend the day.

The little cub paused for another drink. It sure was getting hot. Maybe after this they would go take a nap somewhere shadey. Her brother looked like he was uncomfortable too.

He sat up and his tail went limp when she'd crowed the negative. He wasn't right? Not the sky? With a huffed breath that made the tips of his forelock float upwards, he glanced around in exasperation. If not the sky, what else was blue? There wasn't much around here that wasn't brown or green... or maybe yellow... but at last his eyes fell on the lapping water at his side. Granted, it didn't look very blue right here. In fact, it was sorta... well, it didn't seem to have any color! But in the distance, it did indeed look blue.

"The water?" he hazarded more carefully than last time. No sense in getting all worked up if he was only going to be wrong again. Maybe it was time to stop playing and start snoozing. He yawned again, whiskers swept back against his face and eyes squeezed shut, ears pinned back. It was a monster of a yawn, long and loud.
