Xavier had arrived a solid 30 minutes before the time they'd decided on - just so he wouldn't be late. He had had no plan at attending this night, given that well... Halloween and being startle-prone... Yes, it was a bad mix. He'd planned on staying in the comfort of his apartment and work on one of his songs in progress.
Funny how his plans were being blown left and right lately. Now he was standing at the entrance, waiting for Bell to show up. He'd arrived much too early, and it was giving him enough time to worry.
His costume looked pretty good for something he had worked out extremely last minute - a few trift shops and a wrecked pair of jeans later, and he looked fairly convincing. He would have preferred Neku, but it had proven to be out of his reach given the time and his complete inability to sew. Sho had been easy to throw together, and he figured it did the job. If it didn't, well... He'd tried.
He leaned against one tree. It shouldn't be long before she showed up now, or at least he hoped so, because he was slowly driving himself crazy. After all the time it had took him to work the balls to call her, he didn't want to get... stood up.
Was it called being stood up if one wasn't dating ? Not that if he was even sure if this was a good idea. Or if this was what was feeling.
One thing was sure. Xavier would stand all evening quietly waiting for Bell to show up, if he had to.((I will edit the link once I get the art I ordered... hoping the artist didn't run on me :/ ))

((Bell's costume, though I'm still coloring it.)) Fifteen minutes passed before Bell arrived. She had known since word of there being a Halloween Carnival that she'd be dragging out her costume from last year. She had sewn it together herself - something she was used to doing for the theatre - but last Halloween had been interrupted, and she hadn't gotten to show her work off. She hadn't planned on dragging it out of the box and seeing as many wrinkles as it had, so some last minute ironing had to be done. After that she carefully hid her henshin pen - just in case - and headed out. Upon arrival she glanced around for Xavier. There wasn't much of a crowd - yet - and was able to spot him against a tree. Dancing through the crowd, Bell wondered if he'd mind that she was early - even if it was by fifteen minutes? Ah, well -- "Hello~"

And so she arrived - early even, which only meant that it had been a good thing that he'd arrived early. Making her wait probably wouldn't have made for a good.. second... impression ?
Argh.
He walked away from the tree when he saw her coming, and her costume made him feel a little subpar. She'd clearly spent much more time looking than he had been ! Oh well.
"Hey." He grinned, when they eventually met up. "Your costume looks very nice, did you make it ?" It had that... touch that most commercial costumes lacked, really.

Bell nodded, "It was actually intended for last year but I was a little busy." Understatement of the year. It was nice to get to do something normal for once. She didn't understand how some senshi did it - balancing home, school, hobbies,...a general social life, and she only had two of those at the time! Now she had her own apartment, but it didn't count as 'home.' Not like other people had anyway. Ah well! Chin up! In the words of Jonathan Larson and the entire RENT cast, 'No day like today!' She wished she could also say 'La Vie Boheme!' but her apartment was on the higher-end than the simple bohemian life would permit. "I'm afraid I don't recognize what or who you're dressed as though," oops.

"Ah... Well, im glad you get to wear it this year. It looks really nice." Bell had to be quite the seamstress, really, to pull off something this nice.
"It's fine !" He grinned. "It's from a video game... A character from my favorite." It was really the only thing that he could think about, as last minute as the whole thing had gone down, but he wasn't about to admit that. Not that people would be inclined to question it.
...What was he supposed to do now ? Take her hand, led her in ? Let her lead ? Crap.

Ah, a video game! Well then, of course she wouldn't recognize it. Bell took a step towards the carnival entrance, "Well then, let's see what all the excitement is all about, ne?"

"Well, for one I expect a whole lot of candy." He chuckled. If not, well, he'd have to make it happen. There was indeed one part of halloween he liked, and it was the candy - it wasn't a proper celebration if he didn't spend most of the day after in a sugar daze.
He turned then, starting to walk toward the entrance. Then, almost shyly, he held out his hand, wondering if she would take it. Or if he was getting ahead of himself.
Sooo awkward. Xavier really had no damn idea of what he was doing.

Candy brought to mind one of the things Bell missed out on as a child - and it wasn't because of being a senshi - trick or treating. It was too late for that now. When kids do it, it is cute. When someone her age does it, it is just plain creepy. "It wouldn't be Halloween without it!" Bell said with a bright grin, which turned into a shy smile as he offered his hand. She took it, and tried to suppress a light blush.

Trick-or-treating had been a very big part of his childhood, and most of his Halloween nights had been spent with Tallulah in tow, more than willing to protect him from all the big scary monsters that lurked in the dark. Xavier had grown out of being so easily scared, of course, but he still hated being startled. Halloween was a thing almost sorely based on startlement.
He'd been about to answer, but then he noticed something very, very important.
Oh my god she actually took my hand.
His blush was neither light, and neither easily hidden - his free hand went to adjust his collar in one pathetic attempt to do so. "There's bound to be a ton. Just gotta find it." Oh god. Oh god, oh god, oh god, ohgodohgodohgod.

A small giggle, then "So, a candy hunt then, hn?" It would give them a reason to look and see what the carnival had to offer. Any games or anything that caught their eye, they could come back to. It would also allow a little time to get used to this situation. After all, girls in Crystal didn't have dates. Just being seen with a boy was warrant for gossip out the ear. Now she was graduated, and it opened up a whole can of awkward. Didn't most girls get their first boyfriend in highschool or something? Wait - they were just hanging out together at the carnival....holding hands. They weren't... right? Oh dear~ Mind-racing time!

Amusingly enough, Xavier seemed to be just as clueless to her mind-racing as she seemed to be about his own - and really, he was praying to whatever deity that might actually exist that if he had to run into Tallulah tonight, that it would be sometimes where he hadn't taken on the color of a tomato. Please, please, please...
Perhaps she would have been relieved to know that his one and only girlfriend had been in freshman year and that it had been an attempt at looking good on the girl's part, but that would have to be a topic for another time. "Wow, it's alot bigger than I thought..." Also attracted much more people than he thought. He just hoped nothing would happen, but that was probably hoping for too much.

With so many people gathered in one place, this would be a prime target for negaverse-ers to attack. Bell didn't like to think of that, but it was a thought that invaded her mind. Bell tried to turn that around though - it was a shame there was only one festival a year; "You know, I don't know why Destiny City doesn't do a Fair or something. With so many people coming to something like this, I'm sure it would bring some revenue into the city. Animals, games, rides, talent shows- This is nice and all, but something like this only happens once a year. It'd be nice to have another big event like this to look forward to." And goodness knows the city needed the revenue - they sure had to do enough repairs due to Youma v. Senshi and Negaverse v. Senshi antics. All of this though was from Bell's own memory of a county fair she had gone to once with a friend. She was a little girl then - probably eleven. The crowd seemed to grow thicker as they walked deeper into the carnival. To avoid running in to people Bell found herself walking closer to Xavier.

Oh, Xavier had a good idea why - this place was basically begging for youma to hit it - but right now, he was playing the role of the oblivious 18 years old. He wasn't supposed to know any of that.
"They should do some kind of summer festival." He mused out loud, continuing to walk down toward the main bunch of stalls. He wasn't in a particular hurry to go anywhere, really. "It would be a big hit, really.
She was walking closer to him, he noticed. And then he reddened again. Xavier was not the king of subtility. "Oh, look..." He peered toward a stall with ducks swimming in what looked like a kiddie pool. "That looks like one of those catch-a-duck thing !" Oh, hey... Yeah, that was Lulu ! "Shall we ? Il'd like to say hi to someone."

Bell reckoned that things would be safe enough - she was sure there were other Senshi out and about ready to spring into action if there was a youma attack, and there were plenty of places behind tents to henshin up in. Her initial fears reasoned away, Bell nodded and smiled. "Sure!"

Xavier made for an awkward... company (he refused to call this a date just yet, as he was very, very clueless as to what Bell was considering this to be), but he was trying his best. Really, he was !
"Lulu !" He called out to Istas. Would she remember him ? "Your costume is adorable !" He grinned at her. He was oddly good with children, strangely enough. "What's going on, hmm ?"
He reached toward the booth. Well... it happened in every show and movie, that the boy won something nice for the lady accompanying him, yes ? He had to at least try - maybe he'd actually be lucky.
"Three tries, please." He handed off his money to Istas' mother, and then went on to fish his ducks. Come on, be something awesome... !!!
