Home! That was the one place that was foremost in Naim'Namir's mind. While he was still learning to be a healer he was quite proficient in what he knew. That wasn't why he could not return home yet. He hasn't found a banu yet to bring home. He has met many but so far there was none that he felt a serious connection, although there was one... His mind drifted off to think of the encounter between himself and this lioness that happened a few weeks ago. She was nice and sweet and they played together but when he met her he was still learning and not yet ready to find a banu. Now the circumstances were on the other paw and Namir was starting to feel a bit dishearten.

Ampalaya was also homesick; not that she had ever had a permanent home, but she wanted one. Desperately. Until then, she was determined to take care of herself, just as her mother had been responsible for the two of them alone. She had been strong, and Ampalaya would be, too.
As she walked, she kept an eye out for any animals on the horizon- preybeasts, although she had just eaten, and other lions. Companionship was welcome thing. Not far ahead of her, to the left, she spotted what looked like a youngish lion. Even if she wasn't, she was starved for some conversation. Getting closer, she decided to risk startling him.
"Hello there!"

Namir was jogged from his internal thoughts when someone called out to him or at least called out to someone near by. He took a quick look around and spotted a green lioness coming his way. "Hello," He called back hoping that she meant him since he didn't see anyone else out there in the sun.
Namir waited to see what the lioness would do or say but as he waited a thought flickered in his mind, maybe they would click. Even if that thought never came to furitition the conversation and company would at least take Namir's thought off his home for a little while.

Upon catching up with the young lion, Ampalaya realized she had nothing to say - at least nothing of import. It was easy to talk to yourself or tell yourself stories in the days that could go by without seeing another lion, but it felt stupid to just flood him with words. She could try and sound intelligent, at least.
"I'm Ampalaya. I was just happy to see another Lion out here. It seems like days since I've talked to anyone except myself and the lizards. What brings you out here?"

"Hello Ampalaya" Namir smiled glad that she was friendly seemed to want company almost as much as Namir. "I'm Namir and I know what you mean. Sometimes it seems like your the last lion on the earth. Honestly I'm doing a coming of age quest for my pride but right now I'm just staring into space wishing I was at home." Namir wasn't ashamed to admit that he wanted to be home although he would not admit to why he was still out in the rouge lands unless pushed, after all what male would want to admit that he couldn't get a female to come home with him? Besides Namir had a another reason for not going home just yet... or he did before he became at least proficient in the art of healing. He was no miracle worker but at least he could care for the typical injuries that most had.

In that knack some individuals have to ask exactly what others don't want to be asked, Ampalaya was interested in what he had to do. Hearing "pride" really perked her up. A pride was what she was looking for - what she really needed. Ampalaya was tired of being alone. Maybe if she helped this guy out, he coud help her find a place in the pride?
"You're on a coming of age quest? What do you need to get done? Maybe I can help you out."
Ampalaya liked to be helpful anyway - more then once being helpful had helped to fill her own stomach. But if she got a pride out of the deal, all for the better.

Namir wasn't really shocked that she asked what the quest was but he was a bit surprised that she offered to help. He thought a moment trying to form how best to say it and who knew she might actually be able to help its not like they didn't get along or at least right then they were being friendly. "Well you see I have to find a female to bring back." He smiled shyly with a touch of embarrassment before rushing on, "But I wanted to learn to heal first but now that I am good on that front I have to find a mate before I can be considered an adult but I dont want any girl I want to find a girl that makes me happy and vise-verse, and one that will be happy in the pride, and will love my family, and wont have any issues with any other females I might bring back, and really I just haven't found anyone like that." He took a deep breath after such a long run on sentence and smiled hesitantly. "So you see its not quite that easy." He was willing to tell her more though only if she was intresed in it, after all she might well agree to return with him and then he could go home.

"Wooing is always hard, I think."
Ampalaya turned her head and looked at Namir strangely. What kind of coming of age ritual was it to find a girlfriend? Honestly, unless wicked good charisma was all that the pride cared about. There had to be more important things out there. Or maybe there was some shortage of females?
"Did something happen to all the females in your pride that you need more? It's just . . . well it seems strange to send out young lions just to bring back home a female. I guess it could be pretty difficult to find the perfect girl though. There are an awful lot of lions in the savannah."
Ampalaya paused. She still thought there was something weird about the entire situation. Namir was still pretty young; maybe he just needed someone to show him girls weren't that scary.

Namir nodded in agreement, wooing really was quite hard. He looked over at Ampalaya when he felt her eyes on him. "What?" She was looking at him strangely, like he had grown another head or something. "Something happened? No, well not really but that happened a long time ago, sort of." The pride's history was long and to be truthful Namir only remembered some of it, although he did remember the part of the females causing a war between the males because that was why the pride was where it was now and why it had the rules it had.
"Its just that finding a female to return with you is a mark of an adult and that you are capable of fulling the roles of an adult. It also gives the pride a chance at new blood since after a while most would become related to everyone and that's just not healthy." He smiled glumly at her statement of it being difficult. "Tell me about it. I have met a few that I feel I have connected to but she just wasn't ok with the pride and it's rules and I was not about to force her to do something she didn't want to do." Namir scuffed his paw into the dirt at his feet, making nonsense shapes and patterns as his gaze turned back to the wide plain of grass. "I know I guess that is one of the only things that makes this quest possible but it seems quite hard from my point of view."

Ampalaya nodded. New blood into a pride made sense. "Did you really like her? The one that wouldn't come back with you?" Ampalaya could not actually sympathize with losing someone special - but she had never really had anyone special. She moved around too much. "If you really aren't happy without her, maybe you could come to some sort of compromise and find a way to be happy. If you don't think you need her, maybe you should just keep looking. The one you want might be over the next rise." Ampalaya paused while she tried to think of anything else that would encourage Namir. "And complement her when you find her. Ladies love complements. And to be made much of. At least, a lot of them do."

"Well," Namir had to think, it really wasn't all that long ago but so much had happened since. "I thought I did. I enjoyed her company and I thought she enjoyed mine but I can't really blame her about not liking the idea of the pride. For me and my family, a male having multiple females as mates is just a extended family but I know others don't see it that way." Namir really had learned much in his time in the rouge lands and not all about healing.
"I guess what is more surprising is I truly had to think about the answer to your first question." He smiled sadly as he came to the conclusion that he had jumped to the conclusion as to the compatibility of himself and the other lioness but now he knew what he was looking for. He wanted that feeling that he got when he talked to Farrah a few months back. That questioning, worrying, gut churning feeling. He laughed at her suggestion of complements, "Thank you Ampalaya I shall keep that in mind." He smiled and with a glance at her said, "You are looking quite lovely this evening Ampalaya." His grin stretched nearly from ear to ear.

Ampalaya laughed at Namir's sudden compliment. He was a sweet kid, as far as she could tell, but she wasn't going to fall over for that. Nor was she especially keen on a pride when she'd have to share a mate with who knew how many other females. "Charmed, I'm sure, Namir, but I don't think I'm the right one either. I'm not much good at sharing. Why don't you tell me more about the one you really liked? Maybe we can figure out a way to make her fall into your caring paws."

Namir smiled and shrugged, "It was worth a shot." He figured that Ampalaya would turn him down but at this point it never really hurt to ask. "Yeah that seems to be the sticking point for the few I asked. Honestly I'm not sure if it was just infatuation with her, we seemed to click but now that I think back to it I know that she wouldn't be happy with me in the pride." He sighed and watched as a lone cloud drifted across the sky. "I just really want to find a female who makes me happy and would be happy with me and any others I have." His mind flashed to Farrah, a lioness of his pride that made him wish he was home already.

Ampalaya smiled again. "Well, you can either go back and woo her, find someone else to woo, or kidnap someone." She laughed, obviously not taking her last suggestion seriously. "But I do think it's time for you to move on. Why pin your hopes on one girl that just makes things difficult?" Ampalaya started pacing around him. "It would help if your mane filled out a bit more, just to impress the girls. And buck up a little bit. Chin up. Act like your confident, even if you aren't. Try to be a gentleman. And keep your eyes and ears open. Maybe you won't find another one that makes your heart beat fast- but if you find someone you can befriend, that's a good start, right? Find a friend. If you're allowed to have more then one mate, you'll find another that makes your heart beat soon enough."
