When is national wolf awareness week? It happens every 3rd week of October. It serves to educate the public about wolves.

Post one wolf fact, even if its a simple one, and you'll be entered into our raffle for one of the prizes. Easy right? No wolf fact will be rejected (unless of course its not true).

You get one ticket for every wolf fact. Number each of your facts. You do not get to choose your ticket number (keeps things less confusing and hectic). So, if I said 1. Wolves have dew claws just like dogs, 2. Wolves have webbed feet to keep them from sinking into the snow like snow shoes, I would get two tickets. Your fact does not improve your chances of winning, winners are random. So if your fact is impressive, you still don't have a larger chance to win. If someone already posted your fact its okay, you can post it again. Just don't copy all of someone's facts, so you can use one or two. If you put the post in your own words then you do get tickets for all of the facts. You can use resources like wikipedia for your facts, its just all about learning. smile If you do though please include a link to your source.

Tickets will be drawn at the end of wolf week (23rd). Winners will be chosen with a random number generator.

Ooh, yay! I forgot it was wolf week! Arg, I'm trying to get nightmare. Lesse. Well,
1.wolves change colors. They have a lighter colored coat in the winter and a darker coat in the summer often times.

Oh! oh! and....

2. Wolves have a really interesting relationship with ravens. It is sort of a wary and respectful relationship. They don't want to hurt each other or eat each other, but they will sometimes play. The ravens will sometimes accidentally get killed, but the wolves won't eat them, seemingly acknowledging that they are ashamed that they did it. But the ravens follow the wolves around to eat what is left over from their kills.

3. A really good way to draw the bottom of a wolf's paw is by drawing a pentagon first. Then you divide up all the toes.

4. Wolves, like many dogs, eat grass to help them digest stuff and "clear out their systems". Yay for fiber.

My two favorite wolf facts

1. In the Alaskan or Canadian Wilderness the territory for one pack ranges from 300 to 1,000 square miles while in the continental U.S. the territory is between 25 and 150 square miles.

2. A Wolf in a hurry can go as fast as 35 miles per hour for short distances

1. In 2009 hunting of Wolves during specified seasons and in certain areas is now legal in Idaho and Montana. This is unprecedented in the history of the ESA(Endangered Species Act).
