I'm thinking about you so much...

xxxxxTime doesn't stop for me.

xxxxxxxxxxMy empty heart still can't find your feelings.

The seasons are changing. Autumn's last red-brown leaves have blown away with the chilly wind of the imminent winter and the cold is setting in. The shinobi of Konohagakure are steeling themselves for winter and the hardships that it will bring, aware of the ever-present threat of attack from other Lands. Squad 7 is training as hard as ever under the watchful eye of the legendary Mirror Ninja Kakashi Hatake, trying to complete as many missions as they can before the first snow sets in.

When it finally does and the world is bathed in a swath of white, the Hokage receives word from a far-off country, distant from their home of Japan. It is a scroll from a longtime ally of Konoha, Seiki Nomura, requesting that they dispatch a team of nin immediately to come with all speed to his residence in Spain. He does not state why, but it is clear that he stresses haste. The last ominous words of the scroll read: "I do not know how much time I have left. They are after me too. Please, send help."

Unfortunately, Seiki couldn't have picked a worse time to request aid. Almost every shinobi in the Village is busy with missions; even Squad 7 is caught up in the sudden torrent of assignments. Since Kakashi's skills are needed elsewhere and Naruto is far away training with Jiraiya, the only remaining available nin are Sasuke Uchiha and Sakura Haruno. With Kakashi's promise to follow them as soon as he can, the two inexperienced Genin are sent out to locate Seiki and aid him in any way that they can.

Sasuke and Sakura arrive in Spain, where it is the beginning of spring. The lakes, rivers and mountains all shaking off winter's cold bite and preparing for the gentle warmth the spring wind brings. Together they must track down the elusive Seiki before it is too late and discover why he summoned them, but since the young Uchiha seemingly can't stand Sakura, this task might prove next to impossible. But they must learn how to work together, and quickly, or else "they" will get to Seiki first.

My love song never ends.

I've already met you.xxxxx

It will never end...xxxxxxxxxx

Sakura Haruno
Women have to be strong in order to survive!❞

And she fights for her life
As she puts on a coat and she fights
For her life on a train,
She watches the rain as it pours
She pays for the bread
But nobody knows

For a Land of Fire, Konoha sure became cold in the winter seasons. Luckily, the packing pinkette wouldn't be in the cold for much longer. She was leaving with Sasuke on a mission in Spain! With no Naruto or Kakshi-sensei to interfere! "Take that Ino!" Inner Sakura cheered with a "cha!" as the outer failed at holding back a squeal of delight. Her bottom lip was nibbled on and pulled back as another set of clothes were folded neatly into the small pack. Clothes were officially done: a couple spares of her normal outfit, a similar one should her preferred dress be ruined, and a few other outfits suitable for a shinobi life, including a jumper for last resort.

Next on her list was weapons and equipment. Some kunai knives, shuriken and healing ailments were set neatly and efficiently as possible whilst inside a backpack. Lastly, there was actual survival things to be put in. A couple of lighters should Sasuke overshoot his fireballs-or not be able to do them, a flashlight, sleeping bag and blanket, basic and small cooking utensils, as well as dry, disgusting food should they not be able to hunt and/or cook. Sasuke was to be bringing similar supplies, though first aid was primarily up to her. Sakura knew basic healing from the hours at the hospital and chakra control. Unfortunately, it could only do very tiny wounds, such as a paper cut. Her skill in combat reflected the amount of weapons brought-enough to survive but not enough to be encountering many enemies. As far as the pinkette knew, Sasuke would be doing the close fighting, with she as support with illusions, healing and distracting. She refused to be useless again.

Absentmindedly, the jade orbed girl fingered her hair. She had recently cut it short due to exams, and it was beginning to grow back in a good style thanks to Ino's quick trim in the forest. Her bangs had fallen lightly, and were being pinned back by a couple white bobby pins. The length itself was awkward-too short to be put up, or be liked to Sasuke's apparent taste, but too long to be as much as a symbol as it was previously. In all honestly, Sakura was unsure if she should keep it short to signify she had changed, or to grow it back out as she liked it. What could be noted though, was that it wasn't at glossy or smooth as it used to be. Karin had given her quite the comment, making training come before conditioning. Now it was simply normal, no frizz, no supermodel gloss and shine, and just plain, bubblegum pink.

Groaning, the only Haruno of the current generation slipped her headband around her forehead to see how it was, only to deepen the frown. She looked to serious with it like that. Loosening the knot, the twelve year old slipped it back onto her head just as she once wore Ino's ribbon, giving the soft, feminine touch she was known for-unless she was near Naruto. Her attitude was a cold, hard rock top him. Grimacing in her unfairness-although she'd blame it for the setting sun reflecting into her eyes-Sakura took another sparing glance around her room. Now was not the time to be upset. She was going away for who knows how long with Sasuke in a foreign place! Slinging her bag over her right shoulder, the kunoichi gave a last grin to the mirror before scribbling a note to her parents and leaving for the West Gate. They'd be arriving at some city that would transport them over to their destination via advanced ninja arts.

Currently garbed in a simple pink top with a beige skirt and elbow pads, the kunoichi jumped rooftop to rooftop, hoping she wouldn't be late. It was better to be early, as Sasuke didn't strike her to like waiting. Despite being on Team 7 with him since they graduated the academy, she hadn't learned much about him.
"Perfect time to get to know him now I guess..." Landing before the gate, Sakura waved politely with a small smile to the Jōnin on duty. "It must suck to have the job. Waiting for nothing without anything to pass the time..."

During her wait for her companion, the emerald eyed girl leaned against the gateway door, reflecting on everything that had happened thus far. Kakashi-sensei trained Sasuke, and Naruto was trained, and is still training with Jiraiya. She, on the other hand, had the basic training from Iruka-sensei, as well as Kakashi-sensei in team training, but no personal lessons. Even when she volunteered at the hospital, the training wasn't personal, as she was taught like she was back in the academy. She wasn't any stronger physically or mentally. She stayed the same, only growing more of a backbone and becoming more focused on what Naruto and Sasuke focused on. So her chakra control was better than her teammates, and she was better at detecting illusions. Those were basic skills a ninja needed to be a ninja. Her far off gaze lowered with self conscious arms wrapping around her body as the breeze whisked past her. These thoughts weren't wanted, but couldn't keep away. Self pity was the last thing the cherry blossom needed; it would just put her back to square one.

{ Sasuke Uchiha } --------------------------------------------------------------- ----------

The sun was just barely rising above the walls on Konohagakure, casting a bloody crimson-orange light on the buildings, stretching shadows into elongated swords that pierced the dawn. The sun glinted brightly off the thick blankets of snow that had covered the world overnight, shimmering in the harsh lights of the morning. Shivering irritably, Sasuke Uchiha trudged moodily through the calf-deep drifts towards the West Gate. The black-haired Genin glared at the snow, detesting the fact that his feet were going numb despite being carefully encased in padded boots. He kicked lazily at the cold stuff, summoning a small amount of burning chakra and sending it out to his frozen extremities to ward away frostbite. Sasuke sneezed. Rubbing absently at his nose, he continued towards the Gate with a quickened pace now that he could finally feel his toes. But before long he slowed again, mentally balking as he reluctantly recalled the specifics of the missions. They expected him to take part in a mission that was halfway around the world to some place he had never been; he hazily remembered it being referred to as “Spain." He faintly recalled the name being used once or twice before at his education at the Academy when they were learning about the world, but it was pretty foggy. Needless to say he wasn’t thrilled about being shipped off to a foreign country with no idea about the culture or people there; he didn’t even know if they had a ninja system or not. Either way, that wasn’t the worst of it, far from it.

The worst part was that, since the Village couldn’t spare a single other shinobi to go along with him, it was just him and Sakura. It’s as if they were trying to kill him, pairing him with the most annoying, girly, and downright obnoxious companion on the planet. Hell, he would even take Naruto over her. Well, maybe not… But what he was really worried about was the caliber of the assignment. Would they, two fresh Genin, be able to handle a mission of this magnitude? Sasuke was certain that he would be able to handle it if he had a suitable team behind him, but just Sakura? They might’ve bitten off more than they could chew with this one. Something about this entire thing screamed suicide to him. Sasuke looked up to see that he had arrived at the West Gate. With a weary sigh and a sinking feeling in the pit of his stomach, he shoved his icy hands deep into his pockets and stepped forward, breathing out a small jet of flame to warm his chest.

Ignoring Sakura, he walked straight past her, onyx eyes sweeping the perimeter. While grateful that the sun was rising and thus lessening the almighty glare on the snow, it also meant that the time to leave Konoha behind was drawing nearer. He spotted Kakashi reclining easily against the trunk of an ice-slicked tree, single eye moving rapidly as he digested the words of his newest Icha-Icha Paradise book. Relief swept through him as he realized that he and Sakura weren’t going to be alone on this mission; the Village finally had enough sense to send along an experience Jonin with them. Not bothering to raise an arm in greeting, Sasuke called out to him. “Kakashi-sensei!” The silver-haired man’s exposed eye lifted from the page and fixed on the Uchiha and he inclined his head in acknowledgement of his words. Sasuke shifted his weight from his left leg to his right, his breath steaming in the frigid air. “Does this mean you’re coming with us?

Kakashi sighed and ruefully shook his head, shrugging off the tree and approaching, eye straying back to his novel. “I would prefer it, actually, if I could come along with you guys.” He expelled another short burst of smoky air before he continued. “But unfortunately, duty calls elsewhere. I actually just came to see you off.” He added unhelpfully as he flipped a page in his book. The lines around Sasuke’s eyes tightened and his relief evaporated. This was perfect. Now even his mentor was mocking him and his pathetic situation. Kakashi looked over Sasuke’s head to an unseen entity behind him, finally flipping the book closed and shoving it in his back pocket. “Ah, here we are.” Sasuke half turned to see a few more shinobi that he mostly didn’t recognize filter out from the Gate. A few of them knelt and, with a few quickly-woven signs, a large and intricate seal appeared in the unbroken snow. He glanced back towards Kakashi, who nodded. Surpressing the queasiness in his stomach with ease, Sasuke strode lethargically over to stand in the middle of the seal next to Sakura, whom he pointedly ignored.

He caught Kakashi’s slightly amused expression and suppressed the desire to roll his eyes at him. The nin gathered around the seal, forming complicated seals with their rapidly-flowing hands, the Mirror Ninja among them. Sasuke watched their progress with waning interest. Suddenly Kakashi looked up without pausing from the tiring seal-weaving, locking his gaze directly onto the young Uchiha. “Take her hand.”

Sasuke stiffened, feeling indignation rising in him. “What?” Kakashi might as well have asked him to stab himself.

Kakashi quickly explained his reasoning. “You both need to be touching for us to send you to the same location. Otherwise one of you might end up a thousand miles away from the desired spot.” Sasuke eyed Sakura’s hand dubiously, as though it might jump out and bite him. Finally, as light was beginning to emanate from the edges of the seal, he mustered up the courage to do the deed. Growling slightly, Sasuke shot out his hand and grabbed hers, trying to keep as little skin contact as possible. He jerked his head away from her gaze, grateful for his long, black bangs that covered his face and hid the blush that crept along his cheeks like a fire. A feeling of numb lightheadedness crept slowly into his body, and as consciousness became fuzzy and slipped away into darkness he thought he could just make out Kakashi’s signature chuckle fading into the distance…

Sakura Haruno

And she fights for her life
As she puts on a coat and she fights
For her life on a train,
She watches the rain as it pours

Sakura couldn't help but clench her fist as Sasuke blatantly ignored her, her inner self flaming up. As if it wasn't bad enough that she was having herself a pity party whilst freezing her pale butt off, her teammate shunned her and looked absolutely disgusted to be near her. Well that was going to change on this trip! Ignoring the yells of Inner Sakura and the burning determination to make her own mission a success, the girl nearly had a heart attack and narrowly escaped the humiliation of falling into the cold, white blanket nature rested against the ground. How could Kakashi-sensei tell him to hold her hand!? The guy had a hard enough time standing by her and he was somewhat emotionally distant, meaning said order would be taken as something else.

Letting out a breath and keeping her jade eyes occupied with practically everything that wasn't her team, the cherry blossom attempted and failed miserably to hide her blush. Sasuke touched her wrist as if she was some infectee.
"Jerk," Sakura was wounded with the gesture, but she smiled slightly as her wandering emerald orbs managed to catch the blush on his cheeks. The pinkette giggled to herself, covering her mouth with her hand whilst biting her lip. His hand was calloused compared to her's, meaning that he trained furiously, while her soft, unmarred hand proved her lack of battle training. Waving to her teacher, Sakura gave one, last smile before fading away into the emanating light around them.

It was nauseating to say the least about the experience. Sakura felt as if she had been poked and prodded everywhere, with things trying to rip her apart. Her stomach flipped and churned as the rest of her innards tightened in fear. When was this going to end?! The cold of Sasuke's hand could still be felt, but it was faint. He better not let go. What if there were ninjas where they landed? She was screwed should she have to engage in a close combat fight. Plus, she had most of the mission information her, meaning Sasuke probably wouldn't know where to start.

Finally, it was over. The preteen fell to her knees with a gasp, clutching her sides in pain. Tears had somehow formed in her eyes and were threatening to fall. Good thing they were in fresh air!
"Now I know why this method of travel isn't used often. . ." Their surroundings were eerie. Trees around were previously burned, maybe a few days ago. Leaves were ash or crunchy beneath their feet, no animals nearby. Her fingers had now given up at clawing her shirt, the pain subsiding into a dull throb that could easily be neglected. Was this Spain? Obviously Sasuke and her were not in the tourist areas. They needed to find out where they were. Otherwise, it could take days before getting anywhere near to completing the mission.

"We should get going. Making it to a village before sunset is our first priority. . . Afterall, we have no clue where we are. . ." Her voice faded out to a meek whisper, as the pinkette pushed herself from the recently burned ground. This place gave her the creeps! Glancing over to her crush, Sakura couldn't help but wonder of he too experienced the same pain she did through their travel. He probably covered it up again. It's what he was known for. Sighing, the twelve year old started ahead, pouting to herself. So much for the sweetest and most romantic and easiest mission ever. Hopefully her microscopic skills in Spanish would be somewhat useful.

There was a house up ahead, the road leading to it was littered with traps and feathers. In the shrubs lining the path was a dead raven, signaling bad luck. A shudder was suppressed, and other black birds in the burnt and crisped trees cawed and alerted the whole forest two Genin from Konohagakure had arrived. Sakura's legs shook and went limp as wet noodles as she made her way up the porch to knock on the door. Gut feeling told her that this was wrong, and the two members of Team 7 should be leaving this area. Slowly and unsteadily, her wrist lifted and flicked to get her pale knuckles to rap.
"¿¡Oiga!?"

{ Sasuke Uchiha } --------------------------------------------------------------- ----------

When his feet finally touched the earth again, a cold flush of pain ran down his spine, but it was easy enough to push away. The Uchiha's onyx eyes hardened involuntarily as he surveyed the charred and ominous landscape around them. The air was still and lifeless; not a breath of wind laced the air. The burnt trees writhed motionlessly towards the ashen gray sky, their long boughs bare. Even the soil beneath their feet had been brutally burnt, a thick layer of soot blanketing the ground. Sasuke's senses automatically crept onto high alert, flicking his eyes upward to follow the path of a pair of ravens in their sudden, startled flight. Something wasn't right. A chilling, eerie wind swept through the remains of the once-proud forest, howling dejectedly in the young ninja's ears. His critical glare swept the clearing again, no detail lost to his perceptive gaze. This was no natural fire...

He wordlessly nodded at Sakura's suggestion, falling into step besides her as they weaved through the dead land, acutely aware of the feeling of being watched. His young body adopting a deceptively relaxed air, but both his muscles and his mind were coiled tightly, ready to spring.

Before long a small dwelling came into view, its outer woodwork in severe disrepair, a disrepair that Sasuke felt was quite recent. Soot covered the roof, mingled with black feathers that littered the entire area. As Sakura made her way up to the door, he remained at the foot of the stairs, staring intently at the burnt brush. A sense of anxiety in him rose quickly and sharply, traveling up his chest like a jolt of adrenaline. His unease evolved instantly into calculation, ready for confrontation.

Sasuke whipped around, running up the stairs. “Sakura, don't-

He was a split-second too late. Her knuckles met the coarse wood, a sharp rap echoing into the previously still air. Swearing under his breath he didn't break stride as the door slammed open, revealing a shadowy figure. Sasuke lunged as the figure inhaled deeply, hands rapidly moving in a complex jutsu. Fire Style! It clicked in his mind that this man must be the perpetrator that destroyed the forest. As he exhaled the first deadly jets of red-orange flame, Sasuke wrapped his hands securely around Sakura's waist and leapt to the side, narrowly avoiding being burned alive by the scorching burst of chakra.

His blood was roiling as he set Sakura down, every sense alive with adrenaline as he dumped his pack onto the ashy ground. "Don't let your guard down." His reprimand was short and agitated. The enemy nin had recovered and was charging towards them, hands moving in a pattern that Sasuke did not recognize. The raven-haired boy wove signs of his own, taking in a massive lungful of air just as his adversary did. They both expelled their justus in a blast of furnace-like breath, the great tongues of fire colliding and exploding in mid-air with a deafening roar.

Taking advantage of the temporary blindness of his opponent, Sasuke rapidly hurled two shuriken in his direction and skated to his left. Employing the speed he had adopted from the fierce Taijutsu training he underwent, Sasuke was able to catch the shinobi off guard and landed a solid kick to his side. As his enemy fought back and the two nin exchanged a series of blindingly fast blows, Sasuke artfully maneuvered the fight away from the house and Sakura while at the same time keeping all of the ninja’s attention focused on evading and blocking. Once they were a safe distance away was when he truly went on the offensive, his blows became more ferocious and frequent. Sasuke saw an unreadable glimmer in the opposing shinobi’s eyes and realized he had seen it several times before during the battle. It’s that same look… It unnerved him, giving rise to a sudden and disturbing thought.

Is he toying with me? The more he thought about it, the more he was sure. Sasuke eased off of the offense and began purely acting, feigning fatigue in an appealing display of heavy breathing and a strained expression. It worked, and the enemy nin nearly undetectably slowed his blows to match Sasuke’s decreased speed. Sasuke’s anger flared, his wounded pride stabbing fiercely at his consciousness, demanding revenge for this injustice. The Uchiha heir executed a long backflip and landed lightly on his feet, glaring into the expressionless visage of his adversary. For the first time he realized that nowhere on his body was a headband of allegiance to any of the Five Lands.

Who are you working for?” He had serious doubts that a rogue ninja would just randomly set an entire forest on fire and then choose to hold back during a death match. There had to be some motive behind it, namely in the form of payment by an employer. Neither shinobi moved, until finally the corner of the man’s lip twitched; Sasuke realized that he was laughing at him. Sasuke’s eyes narrowed dangerously, building chakra in his chest.

“That is strictly classified information, Uchiha.” Sasuke blinked in surprise; how did this nin know of his lineage? “My name is Gorro, and if you ever want a rematch…” Gorro trailed off and smirked, the offhanded gesture making Sasuke’s blood boil angrily. “Well, we’ll just have to see.” Acting swiftly, the black-haired shinobi’s hands melded into seals before releasing his Blaze of Glory. The golden flames blasted out in front of him, desecrating the already scarred landscape, but a high-pitched whistle tore his attention away from the assault. A kunai embedded itself, still quivering, into the ground as his feet and his black eyes followed its path of flight to the roof of the wooden dwelling.

Gorro still wore that annoying sneer as he spoke again. “That’s a map of these lands, just to make the game a bit more interesting…” With a wave of his hand he disappeared, leaving the air to settle and Sasuke’s nerves to unwind themselves. Sasuke set his teeth on edge, staring at the spot where the enemy shinobi stood moments ago for a few seconds longer before trailing his gaze down to the kunai. Sure enough, a small scroll was attached to its hilt. He retrieved and untied it, noting that Sakura walked up beside him during this process. Without looking up he spoke, “There’s a town a few miles from here called Grava. We’ll head there to regroup.” It wasn’t a suggestion, it was a command. He rolled up the scroll and recovered his pack, placing the precious item deep inside of it. Sasuke slung it over his shoulders, finally meeting Sakura’s jade eyes for the first time that day. “You alright?” A nuance of concern invaded his tone. “You look shaken.

And she fights for her life
As she puts on a coat and she fights
For her life on a train,

About to reply to Sasuke's warning, the sudden sense of incoming chakra cut her off--as well as Sasuke's elbow in her side from the tackle. He didn't have to lecture her at a time like this! Ashes smeared against her outfit and face, giving her a chill as to what else was inside the ashes. The blaze the two nins had made nearly blinded her from the dancing light, and the roar was enough to get her back to her senses. Some ninja she was. At least Sasuke was being somewhat gentleman-y. He was trying to get her out of danger! If it wasn't for the fact that her teammate was fighting a dangerous enemy perfectly capable of killing both with little to no effort, the cherry blossom would have swooned.

Dashing after the two men, Sakura frowned, keeping a good distance, knowing it wasn't her fight. Sasuke's pride was getting to him again. The girl could tell by his face. Sighing, Haruno stopped following, boredly watching the two. Whoever this guy was, he liked toying with Sasuke. Actually, now that she thought about it, many people did. . . With a map on the house and Gorro gone for the moment, the medical ninja in training dusted off her skirt with a glare. One outfit ruined, one match lost and one angry teammate. Sasuke claimed the scroll, and peering over his shoulder, she frowned at the map.
"We have our map of the area. Some of these places aren't on there. One is outdated. . ." Keeping her thoughts to herself, a small, curt nod was given as a reply to the command.

Her fist clenched at her side, Inner Sakura cussing him out furiously.
"I should be asking you that. Your pride seems shaken. " Her voice didn't waver in it's harshness, though her eyes shrunk, realizing she just slipped up in front of him. An inner most and generally tamed persona spoke through her to Sasuke, one of the most dangerous Genin to have graduated the Academy. Whipping around on her ankle to walk forward, her hands were brought up to her mouth, trembling digits clawing at her skin. Sakura was dead. He knew that she knew she was dead.

Not slowing her quick paced waddle on the ashen ground, the pinkette was having an intense argument with herself, praying that he would be Sasuke and ignore her and only speak to her when absolutely required. Salivating her mouth to disperse of the burning feeling in the back of her throat, Sakura exhaled mutely and shakily. Her fingers had now ceased their spasm, and went back to absentmindedly wiping off the ash professionally so no trace could be seen at parts.

Her struggle ceased, regaining control over her emotions, and began to think back to what just happened.
"Maybe, if I'm distracted enough, he won't say a thing, and think I'm just so shaken up I'm being delusional!" Hope could only go so far. Smoothing a crease in her shirt, Sakura tripped lightly, realizing Sasuke had grabbed her waist. Though his hand went slightly lower on impact with the ground. At this realization, the cherry blossom's face lit up with a vibrant blush, and her abnormally large forehead felt much hotter than usual. She wasn't about to say anything though. Only Ino could ever know about this.

{ Sasuke Uchiha } --------------------------------------------------------------- ----------

Caught off guard by her scathing retort, Sasuke’s pale features tightened in anger. His black eyes narrowed dangerously as a soft snarl escaped his set teeth. He glared venomously at her, doing his best to keep his anger, stoked from his fight, from exploding out at her. I try for once to be considerate of her feelings, and this is what she gives me?! Giving up with a pointed turn of his head, he began in the direction of the small town without a backwards glance at the pink-haired kunoichi. “Come on.” He ordered gruffly, his long strides placing him several yards in front of her. “I don’t want to have to save you again.

---

It was midday, and the Spanish sun blazed hot and high in the enameled blue sky. They had left the charred forest far behind, and now golden sunlight streamed in broken patched from the translucent green leaves of the trees around them, throwing dancing patterns of light on the mossy forest floor. Birdsong warbled from a nearby branch, and the sound of water bubbling over rocks hissed through the air. The Uchiha crouched by the stream and dipped his hands into the clear, rushing water, glad for its soothing effect after trooping through the muggy landscape all day. Capturing a handful of the liquid he brought it up to his mouth, cleansing it with his chakra before letting it pass through his lips. He savored the sensation of the cool water running down his throat and repeated the process a few more times before his thirst was slaked.

Sasuke stood, shaking his head to rid his hair of the water he had splashed onto his face. Halfheartedly he looked around for Sakura. He saw her standing nearby but said nothing, waiting only for her to drink her fill of the water before striding off again in the direction of Grava.

---

A few hours passed before the town came into sight. He crested a hill and spotted the tops of the quaint dwellings, the style of housing foreign but nonetheless welcome after an entire day of wilderness trekking. Sasuke stopped for a moment to give his burning lungs and heavy legs a short rest, unwilling to show any further signs of weakness. He stole a furtive sideways glance at Sakura, his wounded pride still throbbing from her added assault. She looked tired, but he didn’t have any intentions of stopping here.

Wordlessly he began walking again, pushing his own fatigue to the back of his mind and let his dignity take the place of his strength, trusting it to push him onward until they could find place of lodging for the night. They walked down the main street of the town, Sasuke warily eyeing each shadow for signs of threat. Few people were out in the streets at this time, but the ones that did gave the foreign youths curious stares at their strange attire. The violet sky was gradually darkening, and the soft glow of lights could be seen through storefronts and house windows. A chill swept through the air and Sasuke suppressed a shiver, silently willing that they would be able to secure a dwelling place before the spring night would be upon them.

A cursory glance at the signs on above the doorframes revealed that this was a relatively small town, with a bakery, an apothecary, and a few private dwellings among others. Sasuke emitted a disappointed sigh. This place was so small it didn’t even have an inn. He was about to abandon all hope when his tired gaze came to rest on a run-down old building, smaller than the rest. A sign rested on the doorframe, sighing under the weight of the ancient wood on top of it. It read: Inn; or at least, with most of the letters obscured by the peeling paint and the damage of the elements that’s what he thought it said.

Here,” He said briefly, not wanting her to get left out on the street gazing around, and stepped inside. It took his eyes a moment to adjust to the near-total darkness, but when they did Sasuke could make out a middle-aged woman sitting behind a counter. She looked to be asleep, but as he approached she sat up and smiled. He wished she hadn’t; most of her teeth were missing.

“And what’ll it be for you two youngins?” Her breath smelled of fish and rotting cheese, and Sasuke was then glad for the dim light so she couldn’t see him wrinkle his nose at the stench.

Just a room for two,” The black-haired boy slid a a few coins of the local currency across the counter, hoping that he had counted the money correctly. The greedy gleam in the lady’s eye told him of his failure, and the speed at which she gathered them told him he had overpaid by a considerable amount.

“Indeed…” She purred, stroking Sasuke’s now lost money with glee. “Here you are.” A rusty old key was handed over, and the Uchiha nodded curtly, berating himself for his loss. The stairs creaked dangerously, in serious disrepair as the young nin made their way up to the second floor. Sasuke opened the door for Sakura and followed her into the room, a wave of rancid scent hitting him full-on like a blow. He stopped in the doorway, looking over his surroundings with disbelief in his eyes.

The floor looked like it hadn’t been cleaned in weeks (if they were lucky), and the walls were the same story. From the ceiling hung a single lamp, dark and dusty, and Sasuke couldn’t even begin to image what kind of insects were breeding in there. Disgusted he threw the window open, letting in a blast of refreshingly cold air. It was a relief after the stagnate air they had been breathing. He shifted his gaze to the bed, and to his surprise and relief it wasn’t crawling with some kind of poisonous disease or bug population; it looked to have been made up yesterday.

With an unsuppressed sigh, Sasuke dropped his pack and sat down on the filthy floor, thankful at least that they would have a roof over their head. He ran a distracted hand through his hair, closing his eyes and letting his exhausted muscles relax. Then it hit him: He would be sharing a room with Sakura. He visibly shuddered and felt his face flush magnificently. “You can take the bed,” He muttered thickly, looked away with a haste born of desperation. “I’ll sleep on the floor.

Another frigid breeze bit through his skin, but there was no way he was closing that window. It smelled like someone had died in here; he fitfully hoped that wasn't the case. But if he didn't close it, it would be like sleeping out in the open. His eyes drew to the bed. The sheets looked like they were meant for the summer months and would offer no protection for the wicked cold he knew would be invading the room throughout the night. Maybe...

NO. Sasuke felt his whole body heat up with the force of his inner embarrassment at his thoughts. There was no way in hell he was doing that, especially with her. Sighing, Sasuke slumped to the floor, doing his best to dispel all thoughts of any kind from his mind that would lead to another suggestion like that.

Sakura Haruno
Women have to be strong in order to survive!❞

[Her song]

User ImageUser ImageUser ImageUser ImageUser Image

And she fights for her life
As she puts on a coat and she fights
For her life on a train,
She watches the rain as it pours
She pays for the bread
But nobody knows

"No, I'll settle this properly. . ." Her pity party came back and the remorse for the comment earlier that day had settled in. Glancing around the revolting room, her disgust wouldn't be masked. She had been raised in a primp and modern home, with nothing ever having a fleck of dust resting upon it. This just wouldn't do, and she wouldn't allow their lost money go to waste. The cherry blossom's jade orbs wandered to the tap in what could have been that bathroom under all the rust, doubtful that it actually worked. As her elbow pad slid, Sakura tugged on the rubber, allowing the material to snap against her skin. "Wait here." Turning on her heel and right out the door, the pinkette made her way down the stairs, clearing her throat to the putrid scented woman behind the counter.

Her Spanish was atrocious in oral form, and most likely in written as well. And the lady seemed to have understood English from what Sasuke spoke, so her relief couldn't be any greater than at this moment.
"That room is filthy! We payed you greatly expecting results. Do you even know who we are? That boy up there is of the highly prestigious Uchiha clan from Japan. And it isn't in the least bit acceptable that he has to bunk in that grime!" Holding her head high, she was thankful for the blonde she used to hang out with all those years ago. Her demands would not be unmet.

"And what about the heating? Sure it's a beautiful season through the day, but at night it's freezing! Don't you have some sort of heater? The least you could do is provide cleaning supplies and better sheets. We specifically asked for a room fit for two. The bed is a single. There isn't a pull out bed and do you really think a member of one of the most esteemed clans would sleep in a sleeping bag? I think not. And how old do you think we are? Two beds this time. I expect you, unless you wish to return our money with interest, to comply."

Crossing her arms to further her act, she didn't at all mind allowing her inner self to speak to the disgusting creature before her. The woman couldn't help but grumble, and slowly, almost begrudgingly set down their money, sifting through the keys behind her. Now, she only hoped Sasuke hadn't followed her out of curiosity and step in. This kunoichi would rip him a new one if he ruined their shot at getting a decent place to stay their first night. The preteen had her own agenda to follow whilst here and could not allow anyone to delay her.

As the overweight disgrace to womanhood turned back to face her, the shadowed face growing ever more furious, one slender arm stretched out slowly for the new key, her other going behind her back to grasp a kunai. These people were the farthest from normal villagers. They may have been working with Gorro, or just trained in ninja techniques, with no real system to abide by. Although, these thoughts were meaningless. Her guard would not fall, not again. She wanted Sasuke to watch her back in the fight, and accept her as he did Naruto.
"And the cleaning supplies?"

Her light, trimmed eyebrows rose, her eyes reflecting expectancy from her senior. The growl from the plump form hadn't shook her in the least, for Gorro, and Orochimaru in the Forbidden Forest were far more terrifying. Allowing her armed appendage to come back into view, the cherry blossom twirled the small ninja knife through her fingers, the blade catching the stray rays of the setting sun. Breathing deeply, her normal mind was praying that everything would work out, Inner Sakura challenging the bat to a duel. There were few hours left to shop, clean and set up traps in the room, so the Genin prayed the innkeeper would move her stubby legs quicker than they were.

The knife had silenced any further menacing growls and grunts, the supply closet creaking open once the lock clicked undone. Keeping her eyes on the woman, Sakura stepped forward, tentatively reaching for one of the three brooms, testing it's durability and weight. Next she carefully selected a bucket, the best scrubbie and soap. A top the highest shelf in brand spanking new plastic packages were fleece sheets fit for the night. Setting down the cleaning supplies, her weapon never leaving her left digits, the green eyed girl reached for them, a triumphant grin adorning her face.
"Now that wasn't so bad, now was it?"

Faintly registering another set of eyes on her, the pinkette turned her head, half expecting Sasuke, half expecting some crazy murdering accomplice of the middle aged woman. "I trust there's hot water?" After receiving a nod, Sakura took everything she asked for back up the stairs and down the hall to their new room. Now, to send Sasuke out for some food so he wouldn't see her on a cleaning rampage. But first, the window needed to be opened. The stale air was taking it's toll. "Next time, I choose the inn. . ."

Glancing back to her partner, she gave a soft smile, once again rolling up her elbow pads and retrieving rubber gloves from her chosen bucket. "Mind going out to get some food? I'll clean here. And. . . I'm sorry about what I said. . ."

Her smile fell at the mention of her comment before, but shook it off. They needed to focus on surviving the night, not what went on prior to their arrival at the town. Housewife skills kicking in, the preteen thanked her mom for the annoying chore lessons mentally, turning the faucet on the bathtub, waiting for hot water to kick in. First were the floors, then the walls. Next was the kitchen area, and last was the bathroom, for it would be the hardest to scrub. All the rust and stains would be saved for last, when Sasuke may come back to help.

{ Sasuke Uchiha } --------------------------------------------------------------- ----------

The young Uchiha twisted his neck to look at her, eying Sakura quizzically as he registered the firm tone she spoke in. Sasuke knew the look in Sakura's determined green eyes. While he wasn't particularly inclined to listening to any command she had to give to him, nodded absently to her request and stood quietly as her footfalls retreated down the stairwell with her presence. Sasuke cast a glare of disgust around their repulsive room, mentally reprimanding himself for finding so insufficient a place to meet their needs. Some caretaker he was. With a snort, Sasuke rested his elbows lightly on the windowsill, letting the brisk wind draw its soft fingers through his long, raven locks. He half closed his eyes, gazing out into the Spanish countryside bathed in the bloody light of the afternoon sun. Steams glittered as their surfaces flashed in an ever-flowing rush, the millions of leaves on the distant trees swaying in the same wind that brushed past him now.

Lulled by the gentle caress of the breeze on his skin, Sasuke's mind began to wander. He wondered how Sakura felt about his abysmal skills in the shelter-picking department. The black-haired boy had never been much good at taking care of domestic affairs such as cooking, cleaning, and especially not housekeeping. Those had been sacrificed for hours of training to keep his mind and body in their top form, and the strength he had gained from the rigorous routine had pushed every aspect of himself to realize a whole new meaning of power. Sasuke involuntarily tightened his lithe body as a recollection of his brother momentarily crossed his thoughts, closely followed by a surging wave of unbridled anger. He gritted his teeth with unnecessary force and beat back the unholy passion for his kin's blood. In the end he succeeded, but not without a price. The aftermath of the wild emotions pumped adrenaline through his veins and he was glad that Sakura was downstairs; he didn't want to have to explain his reasons for his form shaking in anger.

Blowing air out of his mouth in a long, controlled breath, Sasuke slowly opened his tightly shut eyes. Sakura's stern voice could be heard from downstairs, terse and demanding. His pale lip twitched upwards in a ghost of a smirk; she could be quite the slave driver when she chose to show her true colors. The faint gesture vanished from his face as a new noise reached his sensitive ears. Sakura was coming up the stairs. Sasuke stiffened, a pang of suppressed panic flashed through him as he desperately tried to regain his composure before the pinkette reached their apartment. The Uchiha breathed deeply and felt the last of the angry color drain from his cheeks as the door creaked open to reveal Sakura armed with cleaning supplies.

He felt an instant rush of gratitude for her careful thinking. It was logical, after all, to make the room adequate for human habitation as soon as possible, yet he had been fully prepared to brave the night with the room in despicable condition. What was wrong with him? Sakura was a girl, and thus couldn't be expected to endure the conditions that he would deem as fine. Sakura's voice brought his thoughts back to the present situation, sounding surprisingly tentative as she addressed him.

His face remained impassive as his teammate apologized for her harsh words, but the words resounded impressively in his heart. Since when does Sakura apologize? Sasuke's clear eyes studied her in silence for a small stretch of time, reading all to well the masked fear of rejection and the more visible repentance written in her orbs of pale jade. He sighed, shoving his hands into his pockets. "Sure." Striding with an air of one who had just performed a deed of great service, Sasuke reached the open door frame when a thought froze his progress.

"Sakura." He braced one hand on the wooden wall, glad that his back was completely towards her. The prodigy made no move to look back at her as he spoke. "Thank you." Not quite sure why he had chosen those exact words yet unwilling to retract them, Sasuke quietly continued down the agonizingly noisy steps that loudly accented his descent.

It was only when he stepped onto the dirt main road of the town that he began to breathe again, a sense of shuddering relief and embarrassment churning inside of him like the turbulent waters of the sea. Why was that so hard? It was a simple thanks to her for being so patient with his temper and stubborn pride, but it had been more painful than pulling teeth. He put a hand to his face and found to his horror that it was burning hot against his cold fingers. "What the hell," he murmured, straightening his back and taking a long draw of the cool spring air. Sasuke ran a quick hand through his hair and opened his eyes.

He let his heart slow to beat a pace that ceased to excite his senses and blinked calmly. Whatever those feelings were, they were firmly banished from his mind as he began a slow stroll down the street.

And she fights for her life

For her life on a train,
She watches the rain as it pours
She pays for the bread

A ghost of a smile at the soft thanks was sent to the ninja's back, before green eyes hardening to the new room, and daunting task before her. Scribbling down the order of how she wanted to work, with boxes to check once the task was completed, the pinkette nodded in approval. Her feet led her to the tub, her whole body going into the motion of turning on the faucets for water. Squeezing at least a cup of detergent in the bucket, Sakura crinkled her nose in disgust, suppressing a shudder of what her flesh just came in contact with. Yuck! To think Sasuke was prepared to sleep in such a disaster, made her curious about what happened to his family's estate. Praying for the boy's health, the kunoichi attempted to keep mental images out of her mind.

Filled to the rim with smoking water, the bucket was hefted with difficulty to the main room, some sloshing about, spattering, and was that sizzling on the floor? Ew. Raising the mop to a decent height, the cleaning utensil was brought down swiftly, sending the disinfecting cleanser in all directions. Scalding to her bare arms, Sakura let out a low hiss before squeezing out more water from the mop's head. Dropping the thing to the floor, chakra built up in her arms, flowing through the broom like it would a bomb accompanied kunai knife. Swirling through her legs simultaneously to the balls of her feet, the teen's heels lifted, before a charge forward occurred. Something ripped, and another something fell with a thud. Ever slow, Sakura twisted her neck to scope out her prey, another sound of disgust emitting from her throat. Wavering on the floor was a three centimeter thick layer of grime, rocking to a halt with pieces crusting off. And Sasuke had sat on it. Triple yuck! Slumping her weapon against the wall, the pinkette snatched up her to-do list, adding another bullet. Laundry. Of the clothes they were wearing. No questions.

Another powerful-or at least decent-chakra infused scrub was made, peeling off more crusted dirt, and others followed suit. It would have been easier to probably make clones and keep at it with triple the power, but her chakra would be drained before she fell asleep, leaving her vulnerable to any perpetrator.

The rampage continued for a good two hours, and the lack of Sasuke had worried her. What was going on? Food shouldn't have been hard to find, with a bakery down the street. . . Road she supposed, as streets weren't usually this desolate, devoid of buildings and people. Collapsing onto the bed behind her, the fresh sheets soft against bare legs, a sigh pushed passed her lips, the only noise aside from the wind outside the now nearly closed window. The only thing left to do on her list was laundry, but without Sasuke there before her, it was hard to do. Jade eyes surveyed the surroundings once again, tired pride shimmering. The floors were of a light oak, everything metal pr ceramic sparkling, the rust absent. Would her companion be proud she at least made a decent apartment for the night?

Moaning in frustration, her stomach growling in hunger, the cherry blossom stood unsteadily, her lack of chakra from scrubbing so hard taking its toll. Leaving the room, all their stuff secured by traps and a lock, Sakura deserted the inn, not sparing another glance to the woman behind the counter. It was time to find Sasuke. Just like a training exercise, in a new environment. Fun.

"Sasuke? Where the hell did you go? It's not like we needed a whole meal. Something small would have been fine. . ." Complaining to no one, her feet dragged, only to freeze in the middle of wherever she was. She didn't know what it was, but it wasn't right. There was too much chakra in this area. And it wasn't Gorro's. Nor Sasuke's, though it was similar in feeling. So who? Clenching her fists, mentally taking inventory on her personnel. Toes spread, her feet beginning to rise, more chakra was focused to the extremities before she exploded from her spot, chasing after the signal received. There was another shinobi here, most probable to skew their mission.

User ImageThe Spanish night was enchanting. Isako's tawny-colored eyes traced the starscape above, losing herself momentarily in the glistering beauty of the heavens as a warm night breeze rustled gently through the thick foliage of the surrounding forest. The fair-skinned woman felt a thrill as she gazed up at the crescent moon, it's pale light casting an eerie, silvery sheen on her dark violet hair, the lilac tips softly catching the wind. The dappled moonlight rippled on her Akatsuki coat, custom tailored by herself to be form fitting, showing off proudly the toned lined of her body. Isako blinked and looked away from the dazzling moon, turning to her task at hand as her expressionless visage scanned the darkened wood. "Why cannot the world always be like this..." she whispered to herself. "It is so beautiful." The Akatsuki member pushed aside her personal feelings and rose from her crouch, the thin tree branch swaying slightly beneath her. Normally a shinobi wouldn't have been able to balance on such a slight branch, but Isako was a slender woman and had always been able to find her center of balance quickly enough to make landing on this small of a target possible.

Her beautiful face remained unchanged as she sailed silently through the forest, her long, silky hair flowing and snapping behind her in the wind. Some part of her missed the great trees of Japan. These oaks and maples were much too short, much too young. For Isako, the sensation of flight, usually induced when jumping form branch to branch was destroyed by her proximity to the ground. Nevertheless she forged ahead, the call of the nightlife soothing to her as she remembered why she traveled towards the small village of Grava. Gorro had been late in reporting back to them about his raid on the old man's cabin in the northern forests.

-----

Neither of the Akatsuki members were outwardly agitated; both of them merely turned empty eyes onto their mercenary, their dangerously silent airs asking the question that no words needed to speak. Why.

"A couple of Konoha brats held me up," the nation-less shinobi claimed, his confident air faltering in the chilling presence of Isako and her partner, Itachi Uchiha. Isako took a sideways glance at the Uchiha. His scarlet eyes closed and opened slowly, an unspoken affirmation of their mercenary's tale. She turned her gaze back to Gorro, who continued at a slightly more hurried pace, as if eager to prove he was right. "Yeah, there were two of them! A little pink-haired wimp." Gorro folded his arms and rocked on his heels forward slightly, his expression growing even more anxious as he talked faster, in a more urgent, lower voice. "And then there was that boy you told me about: Sasuke." Isako's ears pricked up, a flicker of interest lacing her features as once again her eyes strayed to Itachi's face, studying it intently for any betrayal of excitement. There was none.

Itachi said nothing, and his silence encouraged Gorro to continue, his speech even softer than before, yet Isako's fine-tuned ears had no problem picking up the words. "He could fight like no other nin of his age, let me tell you! Like a lion." Gorro was impressed, evidently. Isako let a soft chuckle pass her lips.

"Did you give them the instructions?" Itachi spoke at last, his low baritone causing Gorro to stiffen slightly. The mercenary nin nodded, a smile forming on his lips as he shifted his weight from one foot to the other.

"Yes, exactly as you told me too." The smile widened. "Although I don't think they'll be able to figure it out." Too late Gorro realized his mistake, his face paling as Itachi's gaze pierced him. "I m-mean... Of course I'm sure you're brother will get it, you being related and all," Gorro laughed weakly, waving his free hand casually with the other jammed nervously into his pocket. "But the girl might not..." Gorro trailed of weakly, leaving a feeling of disgust in the pit of Isako's stomach towards him. How disdainfully common of him, to squirm in the presence of two beings of such power and beauty. Isako's lip curled somewhat as she counted his flaws: his posture was off, he habitually rocked back and forth on his heels, there was a scar beneath his right ear that marred his already blemished skin, his eyes were too close together...

"Very well." Itachi brought her out of her musing. "Gorro, continue to scout out Seiki. He couldn't have gone too far." A self-confident smirk found its way to the mercenary's face and his arrogant air returned.

"You've got it." In a brief flash of smoke the shinobi disappeared, much to the former Kumo kunoichi's relief. If he wasn't a skilled sensory type he would've been dead long ago. She felt Itachi's eyes upon her and she turned to face him, glad they that were alone. Isako looked expectantly up at him, and the Uchiha's face didn't change as he spoke. "You know what to do. Find them, then report back."

Isako faintly licked her lips and drew closer.
"Does it have to be all business, Itachi?" She reached a small hand and cupped the side of his face, staring into his Sharingan eyes. "You work too hard. What if we-" He deftly moved his face from her hand, turning his body away so his back was facing her.

"You know what you need to do." Isako wavered for a moment, debating whether or not to try again or obey. In the end common sense won out, and she nodded slowly.

"Yes, Itachi..."

-----

Isako alighted soundlessly on the earthen floor of the forest, not half a kilometer from Grava. Brushing a loose strand of hair from her eyes, the kunoichi spared a quick glance upwards at the sky. The night was still young. A sudden chakra signal slipped into her senses, drawing Isako's bright eyes towards the direction of the village as it rapidly drew nearer. A smile twitched around the corners of her delicate mouth. So the prey was coming to her, as it would seem. This made things less complicated by far. In a smooth, fluid motion Isako stepped back into the shadows cast by the trees, masking her chakra signal from detection all at the same time. She reached out and sensed the incoming energy, able to tell immediately it was the girl that Gorro spoke of. This chakra was too soft, too feminine, to be the brother of Itachi Uchiha. Plus, she had been informed that Sasuke's chakra was azure, not green.

As the girl stopped, Isako was mildly surprised. This girl was indeed from Konoha, but she looked exhausted and ready to drop where she stood. The Akatsuki member raked critical eyes over the pink-haired kunoichi, vaguely intrigued by the pretty girl's features. They weren't as flawless as her own or Itachi's by far, but that was to be expected. After all, this girl looked to be about thirteen or fourteen. Isako stood quietly for a few moments longer, watching as the girl cast about for something, kunai at the ready. With another bought of slight surprise Isako realized that the kunoichi was looking for her.

Perceptive brat.

"You have the potential to become quite beautiful, like a blossom just waiting to sprout." Isako remained in the shadows, glad for the echoing effect of the woods to mask her exact location. "Tell me, what is your name?"

Growling at the sultry voice, the pinkette couldn't help but be irked. Gazing around for its shadowed owner, Sakura grumbled about being called a "blossom." Damn Ino and her damned metaphors spreading to damned creepy kunoichis across the world. Whomever spoke was concealed well, their chakra nonexistent, an their body well hidden. Too bad they couldn't throw an echo without the forest. Carefully taking a step backwards, green orbs scanned every tree, closing off all senses but her hearing to hopefully catch the faintest of breaths. Her chakra reversed on flow, becoming concentrated in her eardrums to aid in the search.

"Show yourself," Her voice now hard, her eyes still unfortunately tired. How did cleaning take this much out of her? Oh, right. The apartment she cleaned was dirtier than a sewer. She didn't want to play, but she would if it meant finding Sasuke sooner. Was this kunoichi with Gorro? If so, she was far out of her own league. Aside from basic academy training, Sakura only had advanced chakra control-though that was not worth noting if her chakra was barely even on the radar- and little healing knowledge. The teen cursed herself for not bringing many weapons along, and prayed this mystery woman would just leave.

But what kind of douche would Lady Luck be if that happened? Sucking in a deep breath, the last Haruno squared her shoulders and brushed her bangs aside. Being afraid wasn't an option. Sasuke said so himself, he didn't want to save her again, so she was on her own whether she liked it or not.
"Ill prove to him my strength. . . I'm not totally useless!"

Next, her feet spread to her shoulder's width, heels rising. A kunai made its way to her fist, already pale, knuckles losing colour. Her free arm bent rigidly in a standard defensive position, digits wiggling in anticipation. Chakra still swirled in the innards of her ears, the desolate forest becoming much more alive by every passing second. The breathing of Sakura's opponent was masked well with the critters waiting anxiously for the two to move away from their homes. "Where's Sasuke?"

User ImageThe skin around Isako's perfect lips tightened at the girl's heated order, having every intention to do the opposite for as long as she possibly could. "You do not seem to be in the position to be making demands, girl." Her emotionless voice rang through the clearing, and she noted that despite her tough talk, the kunoichi would be no more of a threat than a wayward animal. Isako could tell from the forced defensive stance, absent of any real energy. Tawny eyes narrowed critically, Isako began to silently ghost about the edge of the trees, circling the girl. It was a tactic that she had used before to keep her enemies guessing to her exact location, and even though Isako seriously doubted she would need it to mask her presence from the Konoha Genin, she decided not to forgo caution.

Isako detected increased chakra output from the girl and her lips twitched in momentary amusement. It was painfully obvious that this Genin had no idea how to hide the quantity of her chakra use from outside forces. The pink-haired nuisance was trying to find her, but it would take a lot more than a pitiful attempt like that to outwit an Akatsuki member. Isako drew breath to speak again, but the kunoichi's next words caught her off guard. Her eyebrows rose slightly.
This girl does not know where her own companion is? Isako suddenly had an idea that, if executed correctly, would throw both Genin off the Akatsuki operation's trail. Stilling her movements, she spoke slowly.

"Would not you like to know. No doubt you are looking for him, blossom." Isako let the clearing settle with silence for a few moments. "What if I told you that I knew where he was? He has been gone from you for many hours, has he not?" She lowered her voice to a barely audible whisper, then uttered: "Choose quickly, blossom, or I might change my mind."

Sakura Haruno
Women have to be strong in order to survive!❞

[Her song]

User ImageUser ImageUser ImageUser ImageUser Image

And she fights for her life
As she puts on a coat and she fights
For her life on a train,
She watches the rain as it pours
She pays for the bread
But nobody knows

". . ." A small noise, not quite a grunt nor a gasp left the preteen's mouth at the information. However, Sasuke, like usual, wasn't part of the equation until Sakura had mentioned him. "I wouldn't call it many hours. . ." Muttering to herself, Sakura wished to cross her fingers in luck praying the other presence would just tell her where her partner was. "Oh Sasuke, Kami, help me," her mind deflated in an exaggerated sigh, her hope dim. If this was an ally to Gorro, she was utterly screwed, for lack of a better word. "I can find him without your help," Refusing to add the "hopefully" to her careful and unsure reply, Sakura willed her knees to stay in place.

Her jade eyes were slowly inching across the scenery, ever cautious and wary. She was in danger, and she had to be prepared for any movement. If there was one thing a ninja shouldn't ever be, it was blind. . . Or nervous. . . The cherry blossom's teeth ground together, still hoping to focus on the slightest footfall, or a leaf crunching. Whirling in a semi-point pirouette, the kunai was released from Sakura's dry grip, grazing the bark of a few trees before lodging itself farther back into the forestry. Her opponent wasn't careless, the young girl knew she was lucky. A small something, had crunched. Bug or whatever, Sakura was grateful. Doubting the knife had actually sliced the mystery woman, a light step was pressed forward.
"Don't underestimate me."

Was she still circling? Or had she paused? The kunoichi was blind and now deaf. Screw looking for the woman, Sakura would have to fight like Naruto on impulse if she wanted to survive. Focusing her chakra elsewhere, her left ivory appendage reached behind her hip to enclose around two thin, black leather gloves tucked away in her survival pouch. Dropping one between her teeth, the other accessory was tugged gently in place over her dominant digits and snapped into security around her bony wrist. The action was repeated over her left hand. Flexing her fingers, under worked knuckles cracked, allowing the release the young Haruno desired. The trees were working against her, and for that, they had to go.

With a grunt, the pinkette launched her body forward and down, her fist planting itself within the soft grass before her chakra exploded the ground up haphazardly a good kilometer out within her radius. If the sneaky little creep refused to show didn't pop up before the dusted subsided, next was the other side. Sakura began her personal training, and learned the bare basics of inhuman strength. Maybe she wasn't doing it right;at the moment, she could care less. Explosions of chakra would surely send a signal to her partner-wherever he was-and maybe get the weirdos of Spain off her back. At least, that was still hoping he wasn't as this kunoichi said and being held hostage.
"Let's play," Sakura's voice murmured through the deforestation, her weary eyes hardening in defiance. The least she could do was try, and weed out information before totally complying to the voice's demands.

((I'm assuming this is AU so Sakura can have a little kick a**-ness and not be a total D.I.D? Also, EDITED!!!))

I've always considered myself to be a true ninja . . .

. . . But those were just empty words, because Sasuke and Naruto were always in the lead!

But now it's my turn to take the lead, and all of you can watch me from the background!❞

{ Sasuke Uchiha } --------------------------------------------------------------- ----------

With a grunt, Sasuke landed somewhat heavily on the thick bough of one of the numberless trees on the outskirts of Grava and lifted his dark eyes to the town, where the soft glow of lamplight spilled over the rooftops into the night. He sat there for a while, collecting his thoughts and letting his breathing still, dreading the inevitable tongue-lashing that would come from a certain pink-haired teammate when he returned to their room. The comforting weight of the food-filled pack he wore assured him that his endeavor was worth it. He briefly reflected on how his wanderings in search of food were almost met with failure. As it turned out, the consequences for excessively overpaying the hotel were more far-reaching than he had first realized, for his currency always fell short each time he had tired to haggle with the food vendors that lined the street. Just as he thought his search had been met with miserable failure, a vendor took pity on his plight and pointed him towards one of the local farms a half a mile walk down the south road.

The young Uchiha was subsequently rewarded in the form of an elderly farmer whom, after being impressed by Sasuke's proficiency with Spanish, cordially agreed to let Sasuke fill an old rucksack with as much food as it could carry. But there was a catch: the boy would have to spend several hours helping the farmer tend to his fields first. After a bought of reluctance, Sasuke agreed, his hunger and desire to provide for his teammate winning out over her potential anger at his disappearance. Sasuke approached the many tasks the elderly gentleman presented him with with a cool acceptance and a knack for quick learning, and thanks to the many years of shinobi living that made his young body stronger than the average adult's, the duo was able to complete a considerable amount of work before the sun's dying orb had slipped beneath the trees. The old man profusely thanked Sasuke to the point of discomfort of the young nin's part, but as he accepted the bulging rucksack from the weathered hands of the farmer, Sasuke found himself feeling pleased that he was able to aid the man. Sasuke nearly smiled as they parted ways, the elder retreating to his house and Sasuke venturing back to Grava.

Now Sasuke's thoughts were turned to his painfully empty stomach. He felt a twinge of guilt, knowing that Sakura probably hadn't fared much better, but took heart in the fact that he had spent a full day of manual labor and knew his hunger was amplified because of it. He braced his legs to launch himself forward again when a deep rumble behind him caught his attention. He spun around and leapt into the air just as the tree beneath him shook with a ground shaking force that threw huge clouds of dust into the air. Coughing, Sasuke alighted on the ground in a deep crouch, his senses snapped to alert. What was that? An earthquake? His bewildered thoughts quickly gave way to order, and order gave way to a startled conclusion. Sasuke took off silently towards the epicenter of the quake. That was a jutsu, absolutely. Sakura! He willed his feet the move faster, and soon he was flying through the darkening forest. Sasuke stretched out his awareness, trying to trace the fading chakra signals back to their source. Suddenly a foreign, dark purple signature draped over him. He stopped dead. There was someone else here, and in his haste to find Sakura he had nearly stumbled into their awareness. Cursing silently, Sasuke advanced with cautious steps, warily sensing the foreign presence as he following the strengthening jade of Sakura's chakra signal.

Sasuke grudgingly accepted the fact that to get to his teammate he would have to expose himself to the awareness of the unknown party. Highly alert, he stepped into the clearing and instantly located Sakura. "Sakura! What are you doing here?" He demanded, stalking up to her, ignoring the swath of broken ground and felled trees. "I thought you were back at the hotel."

"She was," purred a voice that made Sasuke freeze. "Then she came looking for you." He raked the trees with an intense glare as his body slowly steeled itself for combat, but neither his eyes nor awareness could pinpoint the location of the the stranger. Sasuke knew the voice was feminine and knew the unidentified chakra signature belonged to her, but he wasn't satisfied with that.

"Why are you here?" Silence greeted his question for a few moments, then the woman spoke with an audible smile.

"To greet the fresh blood from Konoha, of course." Sasuke gritted his teeth. This was going nowhere. The longer this nin kept them talking, the more vulnerable they became. Her power was plainly sensed in the volume of her chakra and the fact she concealed her presence with such ease, and he uneasily toyed with the notion that she could overpower both of them if she wanted to. "But fear not. I come only to greet you, and welcome you into this game of shadows."

"Game of shadows?" Sasuke echoed, feeling himself being drawn on by his need for information.

"Indeed, Uchiha." A chill of dread ran up his spine.

"How do you know my name?" He demanded, frustrated that even here the opposing party had already gained the upper hand in more ways than one. But the woman simply let out a bone-chilling chuckle and avoided answering him.

"You will know in time. For now I bid you farewell..." He heard a ruffling of leaves, and as quickly as it came it faded along with her signature. Sasuke sighed, feeling as though he had lost somehow. He mulled over her words, a deep frown etched into his features. How did she know so much about us... We had only just arrived. Unless, she's working for someone... An image of Gorro flashed into his mind. Sasuke turned and looked at Sakura. "Now it all makes sense. That woman and Gorro are obviously being paid by someone, and they're after whatever we're after. That's the only reason they're so well informed." He paused, feeling the vague need to apologize. Sasuke hesitated. "Are you hurt?" He ventured uncertainly.

(I apologize! It's long and terrible. I'm trying to get back into the groove of writing. The school year really did a number on me...)
