Hey!
So I'm in a woodwind quintet outside of school and we have a lot of potential to be really great. We're thinking of sending in an audition tape for Fischoff chamber music competition. Only problem is, is that if we make it I'll have to miss my senior prom. Right now if I had to make the decision I would totally go for the competition and skip prom. I'm worried that I might regret it later though because I was unable to attend homecoming (sick) and I am unable to attend turnabout (concert) so I'm missing every single senior year dance.
Fischoff is an amazing opportunity. They only accept 24 groups so if we are accepted we are definitely going. We need to decide now if we should send in a prescrening audition tape. Just being in the competition looks amazing on a resume and I'm sure it'd be an unforgettable and amazing experience.
What to choose???

Prom is just a bunch of people freak dancing. The audition? Totally worth missing prom for if you make it. :]

prom sucks D: It's like marching without the instruments, accept extremely worse! If you do get in and they only take that many people, heck yeah you should go! You would regret it more if you let this opportunity go by without trying it.

Very tough decision... If you don't make the audition then you would have missed out on a one day of your life party celebrating your achievements then on the other hand you can nail the audition and and do something more with your life and achieve greater things. Both are a unforgettable experience that will leave with good or bad memories,i won't chose for you beacuse i think it's really your voice on the matter and since i'm a million miles away from where you are(over exaggeration) to give you some proper advice i think this is something for you to think over. Hope your decision is a good one.

well, i think it depends on you. are the kind of person who usually doesn't like most of the music at dances? i personally really enjoyed my prom. another thing to consider would be: did you go to your junior prom? cuz if you did, its probably just a repeat (unless your school's prom is separated and the senior prom is more epic than the junior one...unlike mine which is combined smile ) i'm not saying one way or the other, but its still way in advance. i'd send in the tape, that way if you don't get accepted (not that i'm doubting you biggrin ) you'll know for a fact that you didn't just pick prom over the competition.

I would go ahead and send in the tape and try it, like you said they only accepte 24 and it is a good thing to go for so try it, yes prom is a good thing but its only one night, where that could be your life

I'm not gona say you should do one or the other, but just remember when making you decision: If you go to the prom, all you will have is memories. But if you make it into the comp, it will be soemthing you can be proud of.

Prom is actually quite fun if you want it to be. =] Maybe because I loooove to dance, and dress up. (and I had a great date)
But anywho passion>dancing xD Unless your sole passion is dancing! ;P

Send in the tape before hand. You'll know before hand if you'll make it or not. If you have a shot, go for it. If not, go to prom. It's the best Senior year. You don't want to miss it.
Think really hard if you're just doing it because of the off chance you'll get in, or if you think you're actually one of the 24 best trios in the country.

Just my opinion, I'd say try for the competition. That is an amazing oportunity to do something unique and special with people who really matter to you. Senior dances are horridly expensive and suffer teh repercussions of over-blown expectiations almost always. After having gone to my senior prom, I say I would have skipped it to just go watch a band compete.
