G'brel was very much excited for today's mission. Now that she and Lifth could fly together, they were allowed to help out in the search for mystweed! Sure, they could only search in their own environs since they couldn't go Between yet, but who cared, right? She was also quite happy that her assigned teammate today was greenrider E'lai. She hadn't seen him and his infamous chatty green since she was a Candidate, and she was rather looking forward to it.

I don't see what the fuss is about. We're already surrounded by chatty greens as it is, Lifth pointed out, laying down comfortably while they waited for the other pair to arrive. His leathers were already on and ready, and well as his rider attached firmly in her saddle.

Heh, chatting with Eltimioth is only an extra bonus. I'm more excited to show you to them than anything else, she replied, stroking his spotted blue hide affectionately. Ah, how she did love her lifemate.

Lifth's eyes whirled contently under her touch. You truly are ridiculous, Mine.

The bluerider giggled. Hey, you chose me.

Yes. Yes I did.

Eltimioth rambled over looking quite satisfied, and though her leathers and saddle were affixed, her rider was nowhere to be seen--for the moment. She gave the blue a thorough lookover--he was about her size, perhaps a shade bigger, and not fully grown yet. Striking coloration, too. A bit haphazard; he definitely wasn't as pretty as she was. Her ego quieted, Eltimioth turned her focus to the blue's young rider, eyes whirling green. Belated congratulations on your Impression, G'brel. E'lai-mine says so as well. Though she hadn't precisely remembered, E'lai had sort of reminded her the girl had been waiting to hear her since she was a Candidate. Perhaps the effect was not so special now that she had a dragon of her own? Well, permission given was permission, and Eltimioth always did like a new person to talk to... You will be Lifth then. I have heard much about you from the one called Sleeth. Eltimioth sounded perhaps a little too amused as she name-dropped the blue's weyrling bunkmate.

"Hey there!" G'brel greeted with a grin, glad to both see and hear the green. "And thank you. I assume E'lai is on his way?"

Lifth had stood back up at the sight of the approaching green and watched almost boredly as she seemed to appraise him. From the recognition he felt from his rider, this must have been Eltimioth. Where was her rider though? That question was replaced in his mind by an internal groan at the mention of Sleeth talking about him. You two are acquainted then. Yes, I am Lifth. Well met, Eltimioth. He should have known that one chatty dragon would seek out another. He just generally preferred not to think on the matter.

Yes. The little one demanded food. So troublesome. Eltimioth looked back over her shoulder, seeking among the landscape for her tardy rider. She held this position for a quiet moment or two, and then seemed to sight something--but anything she might have said was disrupted by a golden firelizard appearing from between and promptly landing on Eltimioth's head with a scolding trill. Shush, tiny one.

The gold did not seem to want to be shushed, and in all the commotion E'lai managed to slip in most undetected, scrambling up Eltimioth's leg and into the saddle. "Sorry for the delay, G'brel," he apologized, strapping himself in for flight. When Kirel wanted something, it was best to comply...and quickly.

Almost as if summoned by the commotion, there was another faint 'pop' as G'brel's own green appeared from Between, settling down comfortably on the rider's shoulder before trilling a greeting to everyone. "So, decided to tag along anyway, have you?" she asked the green with a faint smirk, petting the flit's head before turning back to E'lai. "No worries. I understand how fussy these guys can get. It's good to see you again, E'lai."

Shall we be off then? Lifth asked, for the most part ignoring the presence of their extra passenger now. He and Mossy had a rather neutral understanding of one another. ... Mostly.

Don't see why not. "Shall we get going then?" she asked the older greenrider, seeing as he was the more experienced of the two of them. Even if he was still a teen himself, he and Eltimioth had been a full-fledged rider pair for a good while now.

"Ah, and you as well, G'brel," E'lai said warmly. He was a bit chagrined he hadn't managed to even really say hello to the girl in the months since the Hatching, but he'd been a kind of busy on his own, between Eltimioth's brooding (he sincerely hoped she would come out of her next Flight in a much better mood) and duties to the Weyr and all. Still, she looked to have become a capable weyrling rider, and no doubt she'd be an asset to whatever wing took her on in a few months when Lifth was fully grown.

"Yes, let's," he agreed, and Eltimioth was more than happy to take to the sky. He'd worried that she'd be complaining about the longer flights required instead of just popping between and back, but she seemed content with matters for now.

Or perhaps she was content because she was too busy getting an eyeful of the young blue. E'lai had to roll his eyes at the careful mental observations running through his head from his green. Surely she wasn't proddy again yet? No. But it does not hurt to be prepared, Eltimioth answered privately to E'lai. Though I expect Tereth will be participating again. Of course the brown would be more likely than a blue to win.

And I hope he wins this time, E'lai thought back--if only so Eltimioth'd give it a rest. Surely once she got what she wanted she'd back off her seeming infatuation with the brown, right? He could hope. Otherwise he and S'ren were in for some interesting times...

How are you finding flying, G'brel? Eltimioth said, figuring she wasn't living up to her reputation of being a chatty green if she wasn't making conversation. She didn't think Lifth would be particularly amenable to chatter; not from the impressions she'd gotten from Sleeth. Sleeth was a dear, but the older green guessed she wasn't the brightest egg in the bunch. No doubt her presence was taxing on the somewhat-serious-minded blue.

G'brel didn't mind that she hadn't seen E'lai or Eltimioth is so long, for as a Weyrling she had been quite busy herself. Especially in the beginning when Lifth was smaller and couldn't hunt for himself, for carving food alone took quite a bit of time from the day. She and Lifth took off right after the greenrider pair, and the flight was an easy and enjoyable one.

The teen blinked a moment when Eltimioth addressed her, but then smiled and answered back, Loving every moment of it. Been looking forward to this for Turns. And truly she could not have asked for a better partner than Lifth. It was hard to remember how she had endured life without him.

The green was not wrong in her assessment of his willingness to 'chat', and he was quite content to fly in relative silence while His and the green bespoke one another. He was glad at least that this one was more willing to leave him alone than Sleeth. Ugh, that green was such a headache.

You fly well. I am sure you will succeed in what little training remains to you and yours, Eltimioth said, praising. They did make a pretty pair.

"About here is where we want to start, I think," E'lai said, gesturing below them. "Let's go down, Eltimioth." The green complied, finding a large enough gap in the brush to head for the ground. He gave the ground a thorough look from dragonback. There was something that might have been the right thing but--

No, it is not the right shape, Eltimioth said regretfully, having craned her neck down to investigate the planet closer. We shall move on.

Heh, no worries there, but thanks for the vote of confidence, she replied, glad that the green thought well of them. G'brel nodded at E'lai's remark, and she and Lifth carefully made their decent as well, landing not too far from the greenrider pair. "Alright! Let's find us some Mystweed." You remember what we're looking for, Lifth?

I remember it just as well as you do, he replied, eyes casting about to see if he spotted any in the immediate area. When that turned out to be a no, he said, I will search from above. You keep hunting on the ground.

Fine by me. Just don't fly too fast and pass over any, she said as her blue jumped back up into the air to begin his search.

Noted.

The next patch of maybe-green-plants was also a resounding failure. I think this may go better if we follow their lead, and you search by air while I search the ground, E'lai admitted, removing straps to dismount.

Very well. I shall see how the little blue flies unencumbered, eh~? Eltimioth teased, nudging E'lai's head lightly, before moving off to get enough distance to take off again. She glanced around for Lifth's position, and, noting it, circled off to cover another way, though true to her word, she did keep an eye out for Lifth in between scanning the ground.

Lifth only gave Eltimioth a very brief glance as she became airborne, but otherwise paid the green no mind. She was decent to look at, but it likely ended there. In any case, they had a plant to be searching for. Even if they were unable to find any, they had to at least be able to say that they throughly scanned the area.

G'brel made an equally through search on the ground, but thus far every plant she was finding was not what they were looking for. This would probably take a while...

E'lai traipsed further into the brush, once again spotting something out of the corner of his eye that might--well, no, it wasn't Mystweed after all. He sighed. How many mornings and afternoons had been spent on this wherry-chase now? Some of the other riders were having luck. He just wasn't one of them, apparently. Seeing anything?

Not a single spade-shaped leaf, Eltimioth reported, with a sigh of her own. Lifth? Are you having success?

Not thus far, no, he replied, multi-faceted eyes still thoroughly scouring the land below. There is much diversity, but nothing of what we seek.

"Think we should check out another area?" the younger teen called back to the greenrider, having heard Lifth's half of the conversation. "I'm not having much luck over here either."
PostPosted: Sun Oct 17, 2010 12:08 pm

"Sounds like it," E'lai agreed. It was shaping up to be another wild chase, but they at least had to try. Duty to the Weyr and all. And at least this time they weren't running across Benden dragons...

Reminded of her gossip, Eltimioth's wingbeats grew stronger as she hurried back. Lifth! Have you heard? Benden Hatched a crimson! The green sounded gleeful, though no doubt she'd be a bit put out if he'd already heard from elsewhere.

Now that actually succeeded in capturing Lifth's attention. Did they now? he remarked, interested as well as faintly amused. Whom did you hear this from? It seemed like something that could have easily been spread about by speculative gossip, but if it was true then that would create quite an interesting situation between the Weyrs.

What happened? G'brel asked her partner as he flew in, only having caught part of the conversation. His change in moods though indicated that whatever they were talking about wasn't just regular old chit-chat.

Supposedly a crimson has been born at Benden.

"What?!" she exclaimed in surprise, causing Mossy to jump off of her shoulder and flutter about excitedly. The teen laughed then, and turned to her search partner with a grin. "Oi! Why didn't you tell me the news of Benden?" This was awesome! Not only was it poetic, but perhaps with one of their own having an atypical now they might finally soften their views on the matter. A dragon was a dragon, right? And with their recent fertility issues, they needed all that they could get.
