Aido sighed deeply from her spot under a fir tree, the same park tree she tended to land in when making a mistake Shadow Walking. Her breath emerging as a shock of white mist against the cold winter air and blew a few lazily drifting snowflakes aside. The sky was clouded over and a light wind rustled the trees, calling for heavier snow later on.

Using one gloved hand she flicked the page in the book she was reading from, eyes skimming the bands of printed words several times before she made a face and shut the book, resting her forehead on it.

There was nothing in this one either, nothing that she'd been looking for anyway. Why had she ever agreed to exhaust her mother's resources of books and maps before going back to Reit?

Oh yes, Rael. She toed her shadow in annoyance but her Companion wisely didn't rise to the bait.

Winter had definitely closed on the city. The streets where covered in a blanket of thickening snow, almost pure in colour except for littering foot steps taintingit's almost perfect existence. The sidewalks were crowded with people with dreams, trying to make a life for themselves. Some would fail, some would succeed, but most would just dream. Nalira was one of them.

Nalira felt herself being pushed aside roughly as she attempted to move through the gathering crowd. Perhaps, Nalira thought, I should just give them a shove. Smiling bitterly she continued to walk, ignoring the impatient pushes and shoves. She could feel their eyes on her, judging her, scoffing her. Closing her eyes, Nalira opened her mouth to breath in the crisp air, skillfully swinging her thin, white cane infront of her body.

As she moved from the sidewalk she felt her feet sink into snow-covered grass, causing her to let out a suprised yell. Shaking her head she crouched down, taking a handful of the untainted powder in her hand, feeling it slip through her fingers gently. Oh, how she longed to see snow again - it was breath taking. She straightened up and let out a heavy breath, her breath hovering before her frame in an icy mist before disappearing into oblivion. She ran her tongue over her dry, cracked lips, advancing to a nearby tree.

She listened for the comforting clunk of her cane hitting the aged wood, letting out a sigh of relief as she turned, resting her back against the trunk. She gently slid down the tree, pulling her legs up to her chest, leaning her head against the bark tenderly. She closed her eyes, feeling the cold wind cut against her skin viciously. She shrugged her jacket further over her shoulders, shuddering slightly as the snow slid down her skin.

Aido hadn't looked up at the approaching footsteps, anticipating that whoever it was would merely realize she'd already claimed the tree as her sitting place and move on.

The cane that swung up to knock neatly where her head would have been, had it not been resting atop her book, neatly proved her wrong.

Her halo rattled slightly where it'd been sidestruck, ringing with a an oddly musical sound and dropped to her head. Her toes and calves spasmed in cold while her hand instively grabbed at a shadow.

But no second blow came and she paused, tense with her hand still partially buried in the shadow the tree cast to look up and over to the owner of the cane. Instead of a looming figure the girl was merely leaning against the same fir tree she was, looking as if she hadn't even noticed Aido was there at all. She didn't look like she was aiming to attack her, just find her way to a nice place to sit.

Releasing the shadow she quietly placed her book into her satchel and snuck a look at the girl. She couldn't place her, but something in her shadow struck her with familarity.

"Hello," she greeted quietly.

It took Nalira a few moments to register that someone was speaking to her, and she seemed quite taken aback when she finally did click on. She looked over her shoulder, tilting her head gently, blinking snow from her eyes. That voice .. she knew it from somewhere. She opened her mouth to reply, but nothing came. She frowned, knowing she wasn't going to remember who it was anytime soon.

"Hello there." She replied dully, and with a sigh she shifted, laying her cheek on her shoulder, letting out an unsatisfied hum. She linked her arms together, resting them on her chest and letting out a huff. She hated knowing something, but not being able to remember exactly what she knew.

Aido shifted slightly, digging in her memory to match the girl's face and tone with someone she knew. It didn't come, but the familarity was there.

Of course.. how many people did she actualy know?

Not many, and most that she knew well enough to feel so familar with were, well, male.

She didn't respond straigt away, rather edged one hand over towards the shadow the other girl cast, dipping bare fingers into it.

She started as a name finally clicked, "Nala?"

Nalira sat there in silence for a few moments, her mind racing. How did they know her name? She turned around to face the female, or very feminen male - no, definately female - assuming she hadn't moved. She was staring directly at her, although, it almost seemed as if she was staring through her.

She still hadn't responded, confusion plastered over her face, a thousand thoughts running through her mind at once. She nibbling on her bottom lip tenderly, rubbing the back of her neck gently, frowning.

"Yeah, that's me. Uh, who are you?" She asked bluntly, raising her index finger to her mouth to bite her nail.

Aido's surprised smile faded at the lack of recognition from her old friend.

She leant back when Nalira turned to look at her and raked a hand through her hair, causing her halo to move yet again.

"I'm Aido," she replied quickly, working to keep the hurt at being forgotten out of her tone, "we haven't seen eachother in a while, so maybe you don't remember me, but we met at the Stationary shop..." oh dear, babbel, she trailed off and shook her head.

Nalira couldn't help but grin as she leapt forward, instinctively grasping Aido's shoulders to pull her into a tight embrace. She registered the tone in Aido's voice all too soon and moved back, frowning.

"Oh, I'm sorry, please forgive me. I haven't and didn't forget you," In and out, stay calm. "I just cant see you, and I'm not really good with voices and .." She trailed off, looking over to her friend guiltily. She wrung her hands together guiltily, feeling all of a sudden very horrible indeed.

"Oh, but it's good to see you again!" She pressed on, hiding her shame with a toothey grin. She pulled Aido once more into an embrace, giving her a squeeze, hoping to put the awkward ordeal behind them as quick as possible.

Aido flushed but smiled happily, returning the embrace whole heartedly.

But... Nalira couldn't see?! Just before she was pulled into the second embrace she took in her friend's face, noting that something was off in her eyes.

In the back of her mind Kibeth registered it as a sign of blindness and Aido felt like hitting herself. Of course, that was why Nala had been walking around with a cane!

"No! It's perfectly fine, really! I just.. didn't realize you couldn't see," she rushed to reassure the other girl. For a moment the desire to ask what had happened and if there was some way she could avenge it rose up, but then she mentally beat it back. She now knew first hand how awkward it could be to be asked to explain things and didn't want to ruin their meeting with even more awkwardness.

"It's so good to see you again," she returned the squeeze and chuckled quietly, "and somewhere behind the Stationary Shop besides. I keep forgetting that we all have legs and don't solely live at the Stationary Shop."

Nalira chuckled gently, burying her head into her friends shoulder. She didn't really want to pull back, but she did, just incase Aido felt a little awkward. She itched her cheek gently, flashing Aido another grin.

"Don't worry about my lack of vision, it doesn't make me any less of a person. Oh, it's really good to see you again. I've really missed you.. How have you been? What have you been up to?" She asked excitedly, leaning against the tree gently and staring at, or rather, through Aido with a great interest.

Aido returned the smile and nodded, leaning back on her hands, despite the snow, "I know, I just didn't even realize..." she still felt stupid for missing the signs and shook her head in aggravation.

What had she been up to? 'Oh yes I've been doing massive amounts of reading hoping to stumble upon something about a creature that tried to kill me a couple months back so I can deal with it, that way it doesn't try to kill anyone else and/or come after me here.'

It even sounded weird in her head.

"I've been alright, just been up to more of the same," she said after a moment, raking a hand through her hair before she realized what she was doing. Her left wrist, left to handle her weight on its own, twitched and crumpled and she ended up falling on her backside in the snow with an 'oof!'

Pushing herself back up she looked over to Nala, "what about you?"

Nalira stared at Aido, nodding as she spoke. She sounded a little unconvincing, but if she didn't want to say anything, she didn't have to. Nalira tensed slightly at Aido's question, letting out a heavy breath.

Oh, just peachy. My mother was taken away by wolves as a lure for them to kill me yet again. Then, for some strange reason, I lost my vision. How about that? Not to mention the death threats I got through the mail. Oh, and my hair is now blonde and cut short enough for me to pull off being a guy. "I've been pretty good. Nothing out of the usual, life's been pretty uneventful."

Nalira leant her head against her friend's shoulder once more, closing her eyes. She reached her hands up to wrap into Aido's clothing, snuggling into the frabric. It was cold, and they both could use the body warmth and comfort. Besides, Aido seemed troubled; mentally exhausted.

Aido sighed and leant back against Nalira, resting her head against the other Tale's. Nala sounded like she was saying just as much as she was. Editing everything to the bare minimum or maybe just straight out lying.

And that was all stupid because they were supposed to be friends and friends told eachother things.
"Nalira... have you ever been to another world?" she asked quietly.

Nalira shifted uncomfortably, moving so that her back was leaning against Aido. She was silent for a moment, pondering the question. Her mind wandered, diving into memories she'd rather forget. Shaking her head, she finally spoke, and did so slowly and deliberately, as if she was weighing every word.

"I suppose you could call it another world. I've been to the Wolves world. I'm afraid to return there, though .. I never want to go back. Next time I might not escape .." She replied heavily, closing her eyes. She didn't like speaking, nor thinking of the them, but Aido was her friend -- she could trust her.

Aido nodded slowly, shifting and throwing the tail end of her scarf over her friend's shoulder, a small offer of unspoken support when her friend's mood seemed to darken.

"Why..." she paused, biting her lip. She'd always wanted to know why the wolves were always after Nala. But maybe it wasn't her place to ask.

She sighed instead and pawed at the end of her scarf that was still wrapped around her neck, she could smell the dust from Reit on it.

"A while ago... I was trapped in another world..." she murmured quietly. She wasn't trying to downplay what Nala had been through, or put her own problems first. Rather it was just an attempt to get the empathy she felt across and let her friend know she wasn't alone in that kind of experience.
