"Clarissa darling, Be careful, it's dark out there." Alice said from behind the counter.
Flashing her a easy smile, "You needn't worry, Alice." Clarissa assured her, with a smile. Sliding her slender arms into her prada coat, shrugging it on ease.
Scoffing, Alice set the wine glass down with a loud thud. "At this hour? Anyone would worry!" The words were followed by an exasperated sigh. "Are you certain that you wouldn't want to talk alone? Matthew could accompany you to your car.."
Her concern for the girl was obvious- aut as heartwarming as it was, Clarissa gently refused it. "Thank you for your concern Alice, but no thank you." Clarissa laughed, as she turned towards the door. After a party, she knew how tired they both were, and in good conscience, couldn't possibly impose on the two. "Matthew is busy enough as is, there is no reason to inconvenience him." There was no room to protest, as she quickly took her leave of the club.
The tingle of bells followed shortly behind her, as she slowly walked away.
The night was darker, and colder than she had imagined- winter nearly on it's way. The streets were empty, and eerily silent. A quick glance revealed no one around. "That's.. strange." Her pace quickened, the soft sound of her boots hit the pavement. Wrapping the coat tighter around herself, she began to wish that she parked her car a bit closer.
Hesitantly, she stopped in her tracks. She had a bad feeling- thought she blamed it on paranoia. "Perhaps, I should have listened to Alice.." Then all of a sudden, she felt a burst of wind hit her. But then it died down almost instantly as it arrived.
"W-what just happened?" She voiced the thought aloud, somewhat confused.
Unknown to her, was there a youma lurking in the shadows a few feet away.. It's mouth hovering only a few inches above her head.

The darkness and quiet of a cold night in the city had a way of amplifying every sound that cut through the crisp air -- a leaf pushed by the breeze could become claws scraping on the concrete, a sigh from someone hidden by shadows would be transformed into a beastly hiss. It was almost like magic. Something that was perfectly normal during the day was a source of potential danger once the sun had set.
So, really, the breeze that hit Clarissa may have very well been just a breeze. Nothing harmful, something that could be shrugged off, moved on from and forgotten the next day.
It would have been forgettable enough -- were it not for the breathing that became more audible as the creature drew nearer, warm pulses of air teasing the hair on the back of her head.
"Hey, watch out!"
The unfamiliar voice cut through the darkness strongly enough to at least distract the youma for a few moments. It jerked its head in the direction of the sound -- one of its serrated teeth caught on a few strands of the girl's hair -- and there was a tall boy standing at the mouth of a nearby alley, sporting a gold circlet and a shirt that seemed almost impossibly white. "I promise I'll explain in a few minutes, but please, you have to move now!"

The curve of her neck was left vulnerable, the hair on her neck parting forward. A warm burst of air tickled, but led to chills on her spine. Inhale.. Exhale.. Inhale It sounded suspiciously like breathing. But that couldn't be.. right? Before she had the chance to turn around—
"Hey watch out! I promise I'll explain in a few minutes, but please, you have to move now!"
Normally, such a random command would have her eyebrows raising. But the urgency in his tone had her stepping forward, as she soon realized what lurked behind her. There was a painful tug on her scalp, but in her haste, she barely noticed the pain. W-what was that?! Jerking forward, she ran as fast as her heels could take her.
Clarissa's panic had caught the youma's attention; growling ferociously in the realization that his pray was escaping. It's predatory instincts kicked in, as it leapt forward in pursuit. Stepping within range of the streetlight, the youma was revealed to be a giant crow like animal, with red eyes, bared fangs, and a dragon-like tail. It's long neck snaked forward, lunging and snapping at it's victim.
I need a place to hide, but where?
There was nowhere else to hide, except behind the cars on the street or the alleyway behind him. Instinctively, she dove for cover behind the cars. Her sudden disappearance confused the youma as it momentarily paused in it's tracks. Sniffing the air, it began to make it's way closer and closer. The alleyway was a few feet away, where the boy stood. "Please, don't just stand there. We should run." She whispered, not wanting to see him hurt.
"It's not a monster that we can deal with—"

This youma was definitely one of the larger, bulkier, and altogether-more-threatening-looking ones, but if Atlas had learned anything throughout his senshi career, it was that this type of foe in particular was the kind he was equipped to deal with. The bigger they are, the harder they fall, after all, and after encountering so many of these monsters he found that he wasn't quite as afraid of them as he used to be.
It was their masters -- the Negaverse -- that really scared him. Cruel and calculating, they were the real monsters as far as he was concerned.
"Just stay right there," he responded to the girl, "I got this." Which made him cringe a bit on the inside to hear himself say: it was that classical superhero stand back, citizen! attitude he never would have expected himself to employ, not in a million years. If Alcyone, the Pleiades, or even Castor saw him now, they probably would have been a bit puzzled.
Then he threw his hand outward in his attack pose, gritting his teeth in anticipation for a second before his voice went to work again. "What goes up, must come down! Crushing Force, Gravitation!"
The ground beneath the monster momentarily flashed with a dark purple light -- and then with a meaty crash it was slammed down to the ground, contorting as it was pulled towards its own center of mass. Short work.

She observed the battle with a quiet stare. She had initially taken the boy for an heroic idiot, a lack of common sense to face a monster several times his size. He had absolutely no chance. Despite her words, he had chosen to go against the impossible.
And against all odds, he had won.
She had not realized the boy possessed magical powers, not that she believed in it for a second. ..Or did she? By yelling out a phrase, he had caused the ground to collapse beneath the monster's feet paralyzing it's movement! Or it could have been a mere coincidence; that some sort of miniature earthquake that happened to occur at the same time. "It is a possibility.." Clarissa told herself, though quite a far-fetched one.
Naive and ignorant.. Clarissa would soon learn that there was no such thing as coincidence in this world, there was only fate.
A glance around revealed the monster slammed to the ground but out of the corner of her eye-- she spotted some movement. Nearby was an overturned car and beneath it was a cat. Struggling to call for help "Mrowww. Mrrooooooow!" It whined. It was far too dangerous for her to expose herself now.. But the cat's cries were too pitiful to Clarissa to ignore despite her attempts to do so.
I'm sorry. You told me to to stay but..
She simply couldn't. Running for it, she found herself running towards the cat— and the monster.

It was one hell of a magic trick, alright. Before Clarissa's eyes the monster was being crushed by the magnified force of its own weight, giving strangled roars of aggravation as its bones cracked and popped out their sockets, and bits of carapace broke. Atlas was regarding the spectacle with a slight grimace, grateful that he'd managed to catch no people -- or God forbid, buildings -- in the well of high gravity his attack created.
And then the girl had to go set off running straight towards the danger zone.
Atlas really didn't like having to play the hero.
"Wait, stop!" He broke off in a dash towards Clarissa, hoping at least his attack was letting up a bit just in case she got too far before he caught up to her. "That's dangerous--"
