For the first time ever the JLPT is going to be held in my country, so I'm going to take the chance and do it~. I already registered for level 3. I was wondering if any of you is also going to do it, thinking of doing it or maybe even did it in the past?

Also, if any of you knows a trustworthy website from which to download the list of kanjis we are required to know for each level, that'd be great - thanks!

I did take the JLPT for the first time this year...and I am pretty certain it kicked my a**! Muzukashi!! I took level 5, been 'studying' for a little over a year. Look forward to seeing my results regardless.
Next year I am aiming for level 4. With another year and more drive I should handle the test better!

I took it two years ago, before they made a fifth level. I took level four, which was the lowest level, and passed. It was definitely a good experience. Good luck!

Hmm. . . I think it's too late for me to take the test. Maybe I'll take it in the new year when I am more familiar with Japanese skills. I mean, my Kanji is REALLY outdated. . . and my Kanji is reading is less than superb. My speaking. . . er, it's really awful. I need a study-buddy. . . sad

I really want to take it, but I don't have the time or money to take any preparation classes.

Are there any books that we absolutely need to take the exam? I live in Canada, and I think the only city in my area offering it is Toronto. What exactly do I need to know for each level?

I want to take it, already passed level 3 (that was two years ago, it's changed, and might have to take level 3 of the new one again XD), but I don't have the time to dedicate to studying it.

@Mikagi: The new level shifted things around, but I assume there's new lists of grammar and kanji up for the new levels.

Anyone take the JLPT N3 last year? I was tempted, but I left Japan, and my Japanese has done a backflip...
