User ImageTime passed in the blink of an eye for the once lost members of the Mwezi'Johari to accustom themselves to their old pridal life once more. After the celebratory greetings, the welcomes, the introductions, and everything else that helped their group come back to their ancestral home, life seemed to go back to normal... to when some of the lions were just youths.

Some things were different, though. The pale lioness was then an aspiring priestess. And now, she was reduced to a humble guard. She was, however, also married, which brought more joy to her days than she really realized. Uchanjaa was a stable pillar despite all her concerns, and she felt more at ease and relaxed about her disposition because of him. Truly, she was grateful.

His tendency for shyer interaction must have leaked into her, however, because the now-guard could still walk around the pride with a slight hesitancy in greeting others by their full name. For this, she was ashamed, but promised herself to get better at it.

Oftentimes during her new duty as a guard, she would purposefully make wider strides and paths to see more individuals in view. Under her breath, she'd name them until she could acknowledge someone else without thinking about it. True, some were easy, and recalled well when she was a cub. But still, it was hard to do it instantly because they, along with her, had grown into bigger paws.

Nyota'shuti, on the other hand, did not have a specific task within the pride. Not thinking herself particularly apt with any one duty, she had chosen instead to help a little with all of them. It meant she could sneak free time here and there, visiting with family and friends. Today was a little different, however. She was curious about the new arrivals, and wanted to find out more. Wandering about...well, that seemed as good a way as any to find one of them.

Aha! "Hello!" she called out, hoping to catch the guard's attention.

"Ah!" she said in an alert tone, the thought that maybe her title of a guard didn't exactly fit if she didn't notice the blue lioness that was situated so closely, "H-hello!"

She turned, eyes combing over the primarily blue fellow pride member. Her mind registered the familiarity of some of her colors and markings, and memories of the once king she knew as a cub leaked through her head. Of course, she had heard all about that situation when she came into the pride, was shocked at the drastic change... no, opposition of tradition! But then again, it wasn't as much as an opposition as much as it was an inconceivable "fall" of their kind and good ruler. Their young queen Alcmene was, from her current impression, adequate for the title, but... For the king to have turned from his position to a place where the Great Lion watched over him less was confounding.

"You are..." she began quietly, hoping her next words would instinctively capture the right answer.

Yet, she found herself speechless, mind still wondering at the past that brought so many historically challenging things in motion. At least, she remembered, this litter found grace in the eyes of the Great Lion.

"Sorry," she said reluctantly, "You are the daughter of Unyezi, but I haven't quite acquired your names..."

"I am indeed daughter of Unyezi and Nerit," Nyota replied, dipping her head in confirmation before looking the other lioness over. While the name had escaped her, she recognized her as one of the new, yet not new, arrivals. "My name is Nyota'shuti, and you would be one of those who came home recently?" Came home, yes, that was a good way to put it. It acknowledged that Nyota realized this lioness was something more than simply a new member. She was one of their own, thought lost yet returned.

She nodded her head in acknowledgement at Nyota'shuti's response, and a tail flickered with faint interest in her specific presence. Curiosity sparked, provoking a desire to ask this child of a once-king slave on how she felt about the Great Lion and his watch over her siblings in contrast to her parents. While it was not far from her own status, being the child of two middle class parents, it was still a far stretch from being born of slaves.

The pale lioness was composed, however, and held all the manners in the world to prevent herself from speaking outright. She had been issued a question herself, as perhaps Nyota'shuti was also unaware of her identity.

"Yes, I've come home," she answered, a feeling of warmth coming from her heart when she said the word "home".

It was a comforting and peaceful feeling still, as their trajectory had been hard and enduring, especially for the pale lioness. Great Lion knew she would have given almost anything to have her parents make the journey as well, but it was not so.

"I am Kibetinyota," she smiled as she introduced herself in case Nyota'shuti needed, "Anhur and Maha were my parents. If I remember, they knew your parents well, although Nesibindi ruled when I was born."

She began to think that perhaps it was even an honor to have Nesibindi's granddaughter here, running into her watch. Unyezi's father must have had great trouble in the time of the war and separation, and to bring forth the new generation of royalty despite the turmoil was a notable achievement.

"It is great that the Great Lion looks with favor upon you and your siblings," she added, choosing to not elaborate on that remark else she find herself in a potentially offensive position.

"It is good to meet you, Kibetinyota," Nyota dipped her head slightly in affirmation of her words, her green eyes bright, friendly, and curious. While the other's lineage was unfamiliar to the young lioness, her ears perked with interest upon hearing that they had known her own parents. Curiosity piqued, she was about to ask more, but she paused at Kibetinyota's next words. "I was fortunate to be born in a time of his favor, yes," she agreed carefully, but she wondered. Her parents had never been anything but honest with herself and her siblings, but there had been the rare awkward moment with others that perhaps were not so immediately accepting. What did this lioness think?

"My parents weren't... slaves," she said the word in more of a whisper, "But they were middle class, and it definitely meant something to them when they learned the Great Lion had great things in store for me."

"But now, in the position of a guard, I am... unsure of what my parents would say now," she expressed.

"Perhaps we can talk another time when I am off duty."

Nyota suppressed a small inward sigh at Kibeti's lowered voice. Slaves might be the least favored by the Great Lion, but they were hardly so shameful as to be spoken of in hushed tones! "It is good, honest work," she said firmly. "You are still as much in the Great Lion's gaze as you were when you were born, aren't you? Why should they not still be proud?"

Kibetinyota had used the word in more of cautious tone than disregarding - she was anything but - but she was unsure of how the other lioness felt towards the fact that her parents were slaves. While Kibeyinyota did not have a critical view of slaves, it was not really supportive, either.

"True, Nyota'shuti," she said, smile appearing on her mouth as she began walking to where she was to be appointed for the day, "I thank you for your kind words. I hope we can find more time to speak in the future, but for now, I must attend to my route."

And she walked away, feeling some renewed respect for her past king and his family.

Nyota watched the other lioness for a few moments as she walked away, a thoughtful expression on her face. This new one, at least, was...interesting. "I shall look forward to that," she murmured to herself, before turning to head back to her den. For now, she wanted to mull over this conversation, before perhaps seeking out another of the new group.
