The light shone neatly throughout the grasses, hitting each blade sharply to create an almost blinding aura of brightness. It was nigh midday, and the equally bright white pelt of a travelling lioness could be seen stepping across the land. Her form was solid and her body lean, years of skilled survival marked clearly on her stature. Despite this strong image, the expression on her face, though intent in its gaze, still held some representation of virtue.
Gold eyes focused into the distance, and her paws began feeling the roughness of the ground as less grass graced the ground while the introduction of sandy dirt came. But this was perhaps what she had been searching for on her move. She had traveled for many years now, separate from others she had once known... But maybe it was time to go back to what she once knew. This lioness wasn't born to rest in solitude.
It was a little hard, however, looking for a land that could have undergone immense change since her absence. After all, she had been but a cub when she was most influenced by her heritage...
"It has to be near," she mumbled to herself as her black-striped tail flickered in mild anxiety of her future expectations.

Today mostly consisted of traveling because Shumusi was tired of the area that he had been inhabiting recently. He had already found food and now he was just wandering aimlessly. Maybe he would encounter new felines today and they would entertain him... maybe. The lion stood out relatively well against the yellow grasses of the Savannah but he wasn't too concerned about being spotted.
Shumusi loved rogue life and the ability to go wherever you wanted whenever you wanted. Sometimes he felt the pangs of loneliness but there were always others about that he could talk to. Maybe someday he would want to settle down.
Squinting slightly as the sun hit his eyes, Shumusi didn't even see the white lioness walking in the distance. He continued on his path until he was within an earshot of the other lion and he heard her muttering about something. He then saw her walking through the grass but he hesitated before greeting her as she seemed occupied with something.

It was a wonder that the experienced lioness, in all her years, did not notice the dark red blotch tainting the bright grasses sooner than she did. His colors made her tilt her head instinctively in surprise; had she been closer to the lands than she initially thought..?
One thing that didn't settle with her immediately, however, was his blatant stare; of course, she didn't have the conceited mind like her sister, Barakoa, to think that she was worth looking at. But neither did she think that she was unworthy of a glance from a stranger.
"You," she voiced brusquely, leaving no time for introduction, "You have the colors... Firekin?"
But it couldn't be. She could have been close, but not that close. As well, she could tell that there was some expression registering on the male's body that made him seem... lost, if she could call it that.
"Are they now just letting any ol' thing with a coat of red and black in these days?" she asked, perhaps not as intentionally harsh as it could have sounded.

Hearing her address him, Shumusi couldn't help but tilt his head at her question. Firekin? What was that? Even though he had wandered through most of the rogue lands, he made sure to avoid prides because they were all just trouble to him... "What's a Firekin?" Obviously, he wasn't part of the pride.
He wasn't used to being spoken to in such a harsh manner and Shumusi threw a skeptical glance at her. He wasn't stupid. "I really have no idea what you're talking about." Wow, that didn't come out quite as he had hoped and that made him seem even more oblivious and dumb.
Looking her over, Shumusi felt that he could take her if she got aggressive. There were too many unfriendly lions out there and she seemed abrasive even though he hadn't done anything to offend her.

"Oh," she said, letting it go as her forceful tone lessened.
She never meant harm in her words or actions, but she oftentimes found others to be taken aback by her display of straightforwardness. It seemed the male before her was silently and cautiously gauging her. It wasn't her fault that others enjoyed dallying around in their language. She preferred the precise, quick, and controlled actions she was prone to doing.
Her response to his skeptical glance was a glare of her own, except she lacked menace and power behind her eyes for the moment. Despite his words indicating that he was clueless, she accepted his presence as a rogue and decided that it was best to continue on her way without stopping for barriers.
"For one with no knowledge of the Motoujamii, you fit almost perfectly into their appearance profiles," she relayed, blinking at the situation.
But she decided to go on further, humoring the unknowing male, saying, "Firekin are large, well-abled lions of these lands. They are what I came from, and you look like a regular member... Being red, black, white did the trick. Maybe you have an unknown ancestor reigning from there."

Shumusi was a fan of word play so he wasn't exactly the most forthcoming with information especially if you were a pretty lioness. She didn't seem like she was aggressive or anything and maybe that was just the way he talked. Shrugging it off and relaxing his body, the lion smiled crookedly before responding, "I look like a Firekin? Never heard that one before."
He listened to her describe the Firekin and hey, it sounded like he would fit in there quite well. Though, Shumusi was rather skeptical when it came to settling down especially with a pride. From what she described of the Firekin, she didn't seem like she fit the profile too much but not every single member of the Firekin could fit those colors, could they? All of his travels, Shumusi had noticed that lions come in a large range of colors and many prides did seem to fit certain color palettes.
"You came from there? Are you not a part of that pride anymore?" Then why did it seem like she was looking for it? And Shumusi humored himself for a few seconds with the idea of him having ancestors that were a part of the Firekin. Based off their name and coloration, Shumusi interest in this pride was steadily increasing.

Though she thought it odd that the fabled existence of the Motoujamii had not reached the rogue male, she simply nodded it off in stride. Perhaps he simply had come from a place far away. His clear blue eyes at least signaled the only obvious indicator that he could not quite entirely have been from the pride.
When he asked his questions, she quickly thought to herself, a feeling of vague embarrassment washing over her.
"Not exactly," she began, instinctively peeking over her shoulders, as if someone she knew threatened her future if they heard.
"I have rogue blood. I was born near the lands, and I have the Motoujamii's blood running in me, but our... family wasn't really in the pride. I have, however, grown up listening to all the tales of the pride's legacy. I've seen some from there pass by sometimes, too. Then, when our family... separated, I've mostly been out on my own. I'd like to find a home in my ancestral grounds, after all the years of wandering," she explained.
"You can tell," she explained, "At least, that's what I've been told - if someone was born on the lands or not. My name is Karatasi, but has no affiliation with the Motoujamii's fondness of the sun, fire, or heat. Children are usually named after similar things on their lands. What is yours? If it has a connection, perhaps you are more than what you know of yourself."

Honestly, Shumusi had no idea about his family let alone his ancestors so they really could have come from the Firekin and he wouldn't have known it. His family obviously wasn't very close but in no way was he bitter about that. He just accepts the fact that he pretty much only had himself in this world.
"I see. So you're actually looking to join this pride?" Tilting his head curiously as she told her story, Shumusi couldn't help but wonder what the Firekin was like because it seemed like were potentially very powerful.
Pausing, the lion had to think about where his name had come from and then it hit him. "My name is Shumusi and it means the sun." He remembered his mother musing about it when he was younger saying that he would grow up strong and as powerful as the sun. The more Karatasi talked about the Firekin, the more Shumusi wanted to learn about this pride. Even though he wasn't looking for a place to settle down, even he was curious about his potential ancestry.

"Yes," she declared, almost a bit too abrasively; the rogue's question seemed skeptical of her intention, but perhaps what made her unsettled was that even she was not sure of what she was truly looking for in joining a pride.
But the future was always unknown, and Karatasi couldn't very well see what was to happen to her, could she? For now, she was sure life would be better if she went back to her heritage, even if she did have diluted blood.
"Shumusi the sun, huh. Well, that is something to think about, isn't it?" she replied back, confused herself at the obvious connection.
But it couldn't be. The rogue male was too oblivious to himself to be more destined than she.
Before frustration could hit her, Karatasi simply stated, "Best to not follow me, I believe joining for you would be a strict and taking process."

Glancing at her, Shumusi could barely tell what her intentions were and why she seemed to be getting more and more irritated towards him. He hadn't done anything wrong? Unless something about the Firekin irritated her? He would probably never know and that was fine with him.
Prides were just full of... drama. A large amount of felines inhabiting a relatively small space is enough to drive everybody mad. While he was thinking about the Firekin, Shumusi kept having to remind himself why he hadn't settled down yet but then he couldn't help but think that this was potentially a new adventure. Whether he found out something about his family or not, it would still be something for him to do because it's not like he had a lot on his plate at the moment anyway.
Furrowing his brow slightly, Shumusi couldn't figure out this lioness! One moment she seemed alright with his mere presence and another she seemed like she was about to turn on him. "I wasn't planning to. I wish you luck if you're attempting to join the pride. I don't want to intrude on your presence any longer."

Potentially to Shumusi's surprise, Karatasi actually gave a sincere smile and replied, "My gratitude."
And then, as a side thought, Karatasi mused to herself, after having observed the odd glances from the male. She comprehended quickly why they were given, and it didn't take someone half of her intelligence to be aware of these things as likely reactions to her presence. Luckily for Shumusi, Karatasi was neither irritated or annoyed. She just had no more business with the rogue, though if future dictated it, then she would have relinquished her time once more, just like the present.
"I may have had different things to say if I were the pride's guard, but not quite yet! Don't let me ruffle up too much of your fur. With my family, I've had to learn how to be... very forthright, if you can say that."
Karatasi bowed, then turning her tail promptly, bid her farewell, "Perhaps another day. Enjoy your travels."
