"Wow..."

It was the first time she had visited the common room in the Demon Dorms, since she never really had to time to look around the school after classes started. However, now that she was finally finished with unpacking, the demon decided that it was time to drop in on the common room, having heard great things about it from some of the third years. While she had expected some great things from the decor of the room, she was unprepared for such a high class and well-furnished room. Carpeted floors, comfortable looking armchairs arranged around a few coffee table, a huge sparkling chandelier in the middle of the ceiling and two - yes, two - grand pianos. Ah, how she wished she was gifted in the area of music! The atmosphere in the room must be perfect for making music!

The admiration and delight Lizzy had for the design of the room was shown plainly on her features as she strode in, making no efforts to hide her feelings. The smile on her face widened whenever she spied another noteworthy detail in the decor, and there were a lot of noteworthy decor. While it puzzled her where the school got the funds for all of this (the Dorm's front gates, for example, looked like they cost more than the furnishings in this room combined), she wasn't about to question the taste of the designer they hired.

When she finally decided to do what she had originally came here for, Lizzy flopped down on one of the armchairs, placing her handbag beside her. She then slipped out of her shoes before sitting cross-legged, making herself comfortable as she pulled out a book - a romance novel - from her bag. Pulling the hem of her skirt to cover her knees before opening up to the page where she had stuck a bookmark into, Lizzy began to pick up where she had left off, glad that she found a nice place to read.

Arachne had not been in the least bit surprised at the opulence of the common room; if it had been anything less than this she wouldn't have set foot inside. Was she a snob? Well, she was a demon, from a long line and knew of the finer things in life - maybe that made her a snob, but she liked to think of it as the way it should be for Demons. As she wandered in she felt it maybe a tad overdone, but it was comfortable enough.

She moved past one of the grands, a gloved hand trailing across the keys, making a few of them softly sound and pushed back her hood to look around properly. There was no one here whom she really knew, unsurprisingly as she'd not long arrived, and had only really left her dorm room to attend classes. Then it would be back to her room, and this had left her feeling less superior and increasingly at a loose end..or if she had to nail it down to a feeling, boredom and some loneliness.

Of course the latter wasn't easily admitted to, she had her spider friends, and her divination to practice, that should surely be enough for her to be getting on with. She missed interaction though, even if it was just the sharp discourse that her Grandmother so often had to offer. Just as she was thinking that she should head back to her room she spied Elizabeth, and headed over, lowering herself onto a chair. With her chin resting on one hand, elbow propped on the chair arm she regarded the spider demon with a steady gaze, one eyebrow raised slightly as she took in the book that the ghoul was absorbed in.

It didn't take long for Lizzy to realize that she was not alone in the room, having heard the piano. Putting down her book, she looked up, blushing a pale pink when her eyes met with that of a very familiar ghoul, surprised at her presence. They had only briefly been introduced in class, but she got good vibes from the other demon, even before their introduction... Even if she had refused to call her by her preferred name.

That was something she was determined to change, as whimsical and minor as it might sound.

The look of surprise on her face was quickly replaced by a wide smile, however, as she tucked her book back into her bag. She then straightened her legs, allowing them to dangle over the edge of the armchair as she slipped back into her shoes, "Arachne! What a coincidence~"

'A coincidence?' Arachne replied, a thinly shaped brow arching upwards, faintly amused at the blush that had appeared on Elizabeth's face, and that the book had been put away.

'I wouldn't exactly go that far; this is our common room, we were bound to bump into each other again here if not in class. Though I admit,' she said, shifting on the seat, folding her hands one of top of the other on her lap.

'I was going to head back to my dorm room until I saw you seated here, there are few people I have spoken with and fewer still those whose company I would purposely seek out.' her eyes moved from the ghoul to the bag.

'Do you like those sort of novels then Elizabeth?'
Of course she had remembered that the ghoul had wished to have her name shortened to the common 'Lizzy' but she was still refusing to call her that. Her full name was so much more regal.

"But I think hardly anyone use the common room... Most just walk right past it without even looking in," Lizzy chuckled; she could tell that the furniture and piano were hardly touched, and while grand looking (Grand piano is grand looking; see what she did there?), there was dust on it. Well, that or the school's maintainance crew prefer sprinkling dust on the piano rather than polishing it - sounds possible in this school. Then again, if that much dust was allowed to gather, maybe there was no maintainance crew.

"Really? I'm honored!" The Demon smiled, her happiness obvious in her voice as she continued, "I'm glad you did though! Always nice to have someone to talk to."

She then paused, blushing slightly at the question, "Ah, well... I've always liked romance novels, although I guess... It is a little embarrassing." She giggled softly, her blush deepening as she added, "I love reading other forms of literature as well though, that's why I was excited for Literature class! Reading is enjoyable; a good read before bed helps me sleep better too!"

'I hadn't really noticed one way or another.' Arachne replied, and truthfully she hadn't. Dust and cobwebs, especially the latter were normal for her surroundings - she would never let any of the servants whisk away her friends old homes, preferring to let them slowly disintegrate on their own.

'Yes?'
She really was the most cheery demon Arachne had come across and it was quite disconcerting as she wasn't sure how to handle it.

'So you read them because you hope the same thing will happen to you as does the main character?'
How strange, was this a demon that didn't want power?

"Ah, no... Well..." Lizzy's blush deepened as she thought about the question; she had never really thought of it that way... Sure, it would be nice to meet a dashing Demon who is able to sweep her off her feet and then ride with him into the moonlight, but its not like she actually fantasizes about it... Well, not much anyway.

"Um, it would be nice," She admitted with a brief nod, a sheepish smile on her face as she continued, "But right now, my priority is scoring well in school, and getting the family business to new heights after graduation... Besides, Black Widow females aren't known for being weak, helpless creatures are they?" She chuckled, "I don't think I'll be like the swooning, damsel-in-distress heroines found in most of the books I've read!"

Well, maybe minus the swooning.

If it was possible, her brow arched even higher as Elizabeth blush reddened and she seemed unable to answer the question. That was a yes then, even if her words said no. And then when the ghoul spoke again, she quietly thought Ah hah! Thought so, but she refrained from comment, choosing instead to say;
'I'm sure it would.'

She listened as Elizabeth spoke. Well, she at least did seem to have some leaning towards advancement, even if was mostly scholastically. Not that Arachne could talk, or had right to think, she had after all mostly shirked her seer training and was only here on her Grandmother's behest, though the thought of others owing her favours was a small inducement.

'Generally no. And I should hope not, boils aren't worth those kinds of foolish displays.' she said slightly primly. Arachne really did think that romance was beyond her, or at least something she would get round to when she was good and ready, and that she wouldn't fall foul of her emotions.

'Family business?'

"Most of the ghouls in this school aren't the weak type - at least, I don't see them as being helpless!" She giggled softly; while Arachne's take on romance seemed rather... Harsh, Lizzy attributed that to never having fallen in love before. After all, most of her ghoul friends back home had similar mentalities before getting attached. Now, they probably swooned more than her, even if it was only at one boil!

"Yes, a family business!" She repeated with a nod. It was obvious that she was proud of what her family - well, mother - does for a living, "A boutique, to be specific... The Baines Clothing Store. Most of our wares are tailor-made, but things my mother make is her spare time go up for sale in the shop." Seems like she got her lack of creativity with names from her mother.

'Well you can be outwardly strong and still fall about over a boil.' Arachne said. It was strange that someone with a heart mark on her cheek would be so, so anti-romance but she'd been born with it, and it didn't define her. Nor did casting stones, or reading cards for the lovelorn. No, she'd seen enough of the pining over those that were 'unattainable' or 'don't notice me' to convince her, rightly or wrongly that it wasn't for her.

'Clothing store? And are you yourself a seamstress?'
She perked up a bit at the mention of Elizabeth's store, it had been a very long time since she'd been clothes shopping, or shopping for anything that hadn't been for school and maybe a bit of retail therapy would soothe her prickliness.

"That's very true," Lizzy nodded; well, not that she had experienced it herself, but that's a scenario in some of the books that she had read before! She paused, wondering why the other ghoul seemed to be against the idea of a relationship; could she have been hurt by a boil in the past? While she was curious, the Demoness figured that it would be rude to ask (especially since it was only their first meeting) and moved on to the ghoul's next question.

"I am," She smiled, rather proud of the fact, "I might not be as skillful or work as fast as my mother, but she told me that both will come in time, if I practice more." She had watched her mother work before, and know that she was no where near her level... Yet.

Arachne had no particular axe to grind, just beyond all the lovelorn who came for readings. Maybe she never wanted to see herself so abject, pining after someone who didn't want her, or maybe it was just she thought it was a waste of time that could be spent doing something else..it certainly wasn't because she was insecure, she really didn't mind that her cool demeanour tended to mean she wasn't often approached by boils. Not that she cared. Because she didn't.

'It all comes with time and practice doesn't it?'
It was phrase that her Grandmother often trotted out, well that and she wasn't working hard enough and squandering her demon-given gift.

'So, your family store got anything that would look good on a skinny slip of something like me?' she often mocked her slim frame to herself but rarely said it out loud to another. But she liked Elizabeth already.

..It was odd though that despite Arachne's slender body she did actually have relatively decent breasts. That kind of defied logic but there it was.

"It does," Lizzy smiled with a soft giggle, "Even someone who is talented will not get far without practice!" It was something her mother had hammered into her, since the survival of the family boutique does depend on her... Being an only child can be tough at times!

"Why, of course!" She looked rather surprised at Arachne's comment, although her next sentence explained why, "You have a good figure, really! Great hips that will look good in almost any type of dress." It reminded her a little of her mother's built, but she didn't know how the Demoness would take to being compared with her mother, so she held her tongue.

"Besides, if anything needs to be altered, its done free and on the spot," She continued, "My mother really is a fast worker."

'My Grandmother says all that stuff. Alot.' Arachne looked down at her lap, pulling at the material of her dress, lost in her thoughts. Maybe, maybe her grandmother had a point...but it was so much easier to have others owe her favours when she bullshitted her way through a reading! All she had to do was tell them what they wanted to hear; that riches, or power or even love was going to be theirs. And when what she had 'predicted' didn't work out? Well, she just blamed it on the ever changing nature of the future, and had so far gotten away with it..well, until her Grandmother had shipped her off to the Academy.

'Yes?' she sat up in the chair and poked at her hips. Great was not something she'd ever thought of, she just thought she had a really odd figure.

'So..'
Arachne looked awkward for the first time, wanting to know if Elizabeth would show her the shop but not wanting to sound like she needed anything. Like directions. She was often so pre-occupied with looking weak at anything that it was almost painful to ask for anything. Even directions!

'You wanna sell me some stuff sometime then?' she asked, straining to sound casual.

"I think your grandmother will get along with my mother then," She chuckled, brushing loose strands of hair back as she smiled. A nod quickly followed as she giggled, "I'll be more than willing to! Well, what are you looking for?"

Then, she paused, blushing as she eyed the Spiderkin in front of her, "Or if you don't mind, I could... Uh, try to make a dress for you? I'm not that great yet, but I would love to make you something!" She nodded, obviously excited despite feeling rather shy about asking, "I just need to take some measurements, and figure out a list of what you want on your dress with you."

She smiled with hopeful eyes, hoping that Arachne would say yes; it had been a while since she sewed a proper dress and she was inching to strat on one!
