Thaddeus Zyane was sitting in his room, the temperature in the room was cooler than normal and that was because he was preparing for his more advanced student to come in. Earlier that day he had prepared the room, furniture was moved out of the way, and the middle of the room was empty besides a rug he hadn't the energy to move himself.

He was an older gentleman and his body was worn out from the excessive amounts of magic he had used in his life time. But he still had life in him...he had many young minds he needed to mold after all.

Today he hoped to move onto more advanced spells with the boy. So far seemingly a passive fellow he hoped to advance through to more offensive spells. The room had been cleared for a magic battle. He was eager for his charge to get here.

As Ligeia and Vorel headed into the classroom the two of them were instantly feeling a lot more comfortable, finding the cool temperature of the room to be quite nice. It had been so hot this summer that he was glad the weather was finally coming down to a level they could enjoy it at. A part of him felt a little guilty though since the weather falling down to where it was comfortable for him and Vorel meant that Chath wouldn't be as comfortable since he didn't seem to do well in the cold.

Really he worried some days about the two of them but it meant that he had to try that much harder so that the two of them could find middle ground, "Hello Mr Zyane." He greeted his teacher, giving the man a smile as he approached him, his breathing showing a bit of fog, "I guess the cold here means I didn't need to bring the crystal that you gave me?" He had it in his bag along with some books that he'd borrowed from D-Corp's collection that he was bringing back after reading them from cover to cover a couple of times over. He took his messenger back off of his shoulder before handing it over to Vorel.

The Frost Dragon took hold of the strap of the bag and moved to the side of the room, setting it down at his feet so that he could guard it. He would love to help out in the class but the last time around he was forced to only watch and was sure he'd be doing the same today, "Do your best, Ligeia." He called out to his owl.

Ligeia turned to look over at his dragon for a moment then smiled, "I will, Vorel." He said, then turned back to his teacher, waiting to see what it was that they were doing in the cold and oddly arranged room today.

The older man gave a laugh, a breath of fog erupting from his mouth at the comment about the crystal.
"You are preciously right my boy, don't need that today. In fact you may want to discard anything you value on your person today. " He commented with a vague gesture in Geia's direction.

"For today we are going to work on your...attack. My boy I am proud that you enjoy using magic for less violent things, at the same time I am required to teach you how to attack. So today's lesson will be focusing primarily on striking an opponent with magic. " He explained as he lightly tapped his cane on the ground, a small rune glowed briefly under the tip and the air grew immensely colder even though the old man seemed un-bothered by it.

"Now," His attention diverted to the frost dragon that had accompanied Geia here. "I don't want you to try and defend your boy. I know you both have a close bond...but there may be a time where he won't have you to protect himself...so he needs to learn how to fight. Don't you agree?"

Ligeia tilted his head when he was told to discard anything of value on his person, "Huh?" He looked down at his things, the silver bracelet on his arm being the thing that was the most important to him. He rested on hand over it in a protective manner, "Wait... attack?" Working on their attack? Striking their opponents? He looked a little confused, "I thought we would..." He had hoped they would work more on learning defensive spells he thought to himself. The idea of using his magic to attack caused his stomach to turn just a bit. He didn't want to hurt anyone after all...

The change in temperature didn't seem to affect either Ligeia or Vorel, both were cold weather creatures and Ligeia was one who walked around in tank tops and shorts in the winter, he did notice his breath coming out as a cloud though which had his eyes going a little wide, "Ahh... wait." He didn't want to fight with his teacher... or really in general, what was it with people trying to get him to do exactly that of late?

Vorel looked at the teacher for a long moment before his teeth barred and he gave a rumbling sound in his throat, a warning of sorts to the teacher. Sure he agreed that Ligeia needed to learn to take care of himself... it didn't mean he wouldn't eat the man if he hurt his owl though. This human teacher had better understand as much.

Ligeia winced at the growl, stepping closer to him, stroking his neck, "Its alright, hes no where near as bad as Auloll." He assured his dragon, sure that was what was on his mind at the moment. How he felt unable to protect those he cared about at that point and as such he'd gotten a lot more protective since then. Ligeia took off his bracelet and hung it off of Vorel, "Take care of that for me, Vorel?"

The dragon nodded, knowing it was a gift from the newt and as such very special to Ligeia.

Zyane nodded his head, he greatly respected the loyalty in the boy's dragon, but at the same time he wouldn't stop himself from holding back either. He could be a harsh teacher when it came down to it.

"Tell me Ligeia, my dear boy, with all your magic..have you ever felt...useless? Unable to help the ones who love you? Unable to protect them?" He was playing on the emotions he read on the boy's face.

"Defense can only take you so far...in order to protect the ones you love..sometimes you must attack. Now my boy...choose your weapon. We know already the type of magic you specialize in....now we must narrow that field. Do you wish to remain a long rage caster? Do you wish to get up close and personal? "

Ligeia's eyes got wide as he was asked that question and he bowed his head, nodding, "My magic and I... we were both rather worthless when Chath got hurt..." He murmured quietly, giving a shiver, "It if... weren't for his DNA being what it is he would still be down an arm... and I wonder if he would have been able to forgive me then."

He lifted his head to listen to what was being said to him, to have to attack someone in the name of someone else... he wasn't sure about that, he wanted to protect yes but to attack someone else. It seemed as though he would be crossing into Ter's territory if he did it that way, "I... am not built to get up close and personal as you put it." He told his teacher, he was light weight, he had delicate wings, getting up in someone's face was just asking for trouble...

"I would say if anything it would be long range, that is what another teacher taught me. How to summon my ice shards and... throw them. My aim isn't to terrible but its not my favorite spell."

Zyane nodded his head, throwing ice..effective if a bit on the brutish side. Very cave man like. He gave a sigh and then tapped his cane once again onto the ground. The ground froze on the spot and then as if forced it began to spread outward straight for Geia.

It was moving slow enough that it was easier enough to spot, even ponder what Zyane was up to. "My boy, Ice can be a deadly weapon. It can be sharper than any blade, become any size. The problem...with ice...throwing it anyway..is you cannot control where it goes. "

The icy ground continued to go for Geia a straight line before it suddenly gathered in a large circle and then spread out in five different lines spreading like fingers out to grab Geia. Once it had formed a small semi circle around the owl there was a pause.

"Can you guess my boy what I am doing?"

Geia nodded his head, "I know, I have been working with it for a while." Just because he didn't want to use it for bad things didn't mean that he didn't know what it could do from the books he'd read. He would just rather use it to make ice roses to entertain the kids he watched, to turn it into slushies, or that time he tried his very hardest to walk on water...

He watched the way that the ice seemed to spread out from the teacher and toward him, wrapping around him in a semi-circle, looking as though it wanted to catch hold of him. He gave it a look before his wings gave an uneasy flutter, "I could hazard a guess." It looked almost as though the man were trying to entangle him in the ice. He'd thought of doing such things himself to try to slow down opponents, to entangle them meant he didn't have to hurt them.

Though... it couldn't be that, could it? The teacher said he wanted to teach him to attack and entangling someone in ice didn't seem exactly like an attack spell to him. His wings gave a twitch and he started to gather the power that was flowing readily around him into him, focusing it in his hands and feet as he awaited his teacher to act...

Zyane smiled, from this distance the smile seemed almost sinister. His dark magic tended to bring out the worse in him..even if he was manipulating ice at the moment.

Slowly spikes of ice began to rise from the ground. It was moving slowly, to give Geia time to respond. He wasn't so cruel to just have them snap up at him not when he was just learning.

"This particular spell, 'Icey Maiden'...is a spell that is normally used quickly efficiently and without warning. It works by manipulating the water in the air around us...having it collect and gather on the ground. By your will you force it to move where you wish, forward backward, splitting into parts as you see before you. Then when your target it surrounded...like the Iron Maiden used long ago in knights times, the spikes snap up and into your foe."

Ligeia's eyes went wide at the description before he shook his head, "That's... that's horrible! I can't use a spell like that!" He gasped out, sounding rather shocked that his teacher would even suggest such a spell. Throwing a few darts was one thing but to... to bring a bunch of spikes up and into someone? The very thought left him a little bit queasy.

He lifted a hand up to rest it against one of the spikes, causing it to weaken so he could push through it and out, not wanting to stand in the middle of such a spell. Icy Maiden... a rather cruel spell, what sort of maiden really wanted to go around impaling people...? Maybe Zyanya though how maidenly she was he had no idea. He looked at the spell now that he wasn't standing in the middle of it, saw how dangerous it looked from the outside and gave a shiver knowing he was just within its grasp.

"When is a spell so horrible really needed?" He asked, not really wanting to know the answer to that...

Zyane tilted his head slightly before giving a sigh, "Perhaps not, but at the same time I recall reading about in an incident that occurred here awhile back, was it ..not something about dragons? Rampaging ones? Yes well...they can be just as horrible can't they?" He murmured his cane lifting again to tap against the ground the icicles melting rapidly before they pooled regathered and then formed a sphere in the center of ice. It looked rough like someone had chipping this particular ice ball into its current form.

"There are many spells my boy that are truly horrible. Ice is a weapon that is sharp and cruel at times. But ..also clean. A wound left by one of those shards would be clean. " He spoke as he then pointed at the sphere behind Geia. "Could you please warn your dragon for me. This particular spell I can't control past this point, and you know how to shield I am assuming."
PostPosted: Sat Nov 13, 2010 11:10 pm

"They had their reasons! And there weren't rampaging dragons there was one female that felt threatened and cornered so she attacked." He said, while he couldn't forgive what she did she had been by no means a rampaging, mindless beast. Then again that might have made her that much more frightening, "If you ask me it was stupid of the people in charge to send a bunch of children in to deal with things so much bigger then we were."

He watched as the Icy Maiden melted down into a pool, gathered together into a sphere, and then he blinked as he looked it over. The ball was rather jagged around the edges he thought to himself, taking a step closer to look it over. It was something he could make... though he found himself wondering what the use behind it was... nothing good he was sure. He gave a little nod of his head, "I can shield, Vorel and I have been training at it." To the point his backside and hands were sort from dealing with so many shields shattering and him being thrown to the ground, so many practice sessions it took for him to be able to hold back one of Vorel's breath attacks.

That the teacher was using a spell he couldn't control passed a certain point was worrisome and almost instantly he was readying himself to pull up a shield when needed for... whatever it was the man was going to do with the jagged ice ball.

"Wonderful my boy, from here on out...we won't be slowing down." He explained when suddenly a shield of his own appeared over his body...and like a bomb the ice ball on the ground exploded. A flurry of small sharp like projectiles suddenly filled the room. Like a hundred thousand of small needles as they filled the room, embedding themselves into anything they hit against. Some desentigrated before reaching their targets, the smaller pieces anyway. The larger ones however went about destroying parts of the room.

"That is called the 'Ice Spray', can be triggered by will or if someone stumbles upon. Much like landmines in wars." He explained before his shield shifted suddenly forming into something much bigger, it looked suspiciously like a cannon.

There was suddenly a loud explosion the cannon shape imploding in on itself when a giant shard of ice hurtled towards Geia.
PostPosted: Sat Nov 13, 2010 11:26 pm

Ligeia's shield sprung up instantly in front of him as he felt the rush of magic as the jagged sphere suddenly seemed to burst, exploding in all directions... His shield deflected what came at him for the most part a of the shards getting through and hit him here and there, leaving little red scrapes behind on his pale skin. He gave a wince before turning to look toward Vorel, worried for him... bit it seemed a strong breath of ice had kept the shards from hitting him. Fighting ice with ice he thought to himself before turning to look toward the teacher once more...

And his eyes went wide as he saw another shard coming toward him, larger this time, and he gave a shriek of surprise, much like the ones he gave when he was younger and got scared by something before he threw himself out of the way of it, losing a couple feathers in the process from one wing, "What in the..." What was his teacher trying to do? Kill him? He turned to give the man a look before he drew more of the power in the air and all around him to him once more, readying for whatever it was the man wanted to do next... and after those two spells he didn't trust that it would be anything good...

"My boy you are not doing what I hoped. You are going back into a defensive mode. You should do like your dragon did...fight ice with ..." The Necromancer stated before more spheres of ice began to form along the ground. "Ice." He stated simply. He didn't want to hurt the boy, hardly he liked this student quite a bit.

"Your shield is weak, what will you do now?" He inquired as there were now about six varying sizes of Ice Spray balls now littering the floor. Suddenly four solid walls of ice appeared around him. A crackle in the air..and suddenly there was ice..no..hail dropping from the roof. Only one needed to hit any of the balls of ice.
