AMITYVILLE ACADEMY ENROLMENT FORM

Name: Aurian
Nicknames: Ri, Rian, Auri, whatever you can make from it.
Gender: Female
Age: Appears 18, but she's not too sure of her exact age. Aurian knows she's a "young" Reaper, but who knows what that means.

Faction/Race: Reaper > Shadow Being

Personality: Having only herself to rely on for the entirety of her life so far, Aurian possesses solid self confidence and the ability to act on her own. Peer pressure is an entirely foreign idea to her. She's looking forward to making friends at school - it will be a new and interesting adventure - but while she will admit to herself that her life has been a lonely one, she can continue to go it alone if she has to. Sometimes even when she shouldn't - it won't occur to her to ask for help when she really needs it, which will often lead her into more trouble. It's not that she's overly prideful (though it was a bit shameful to realise she couldn't work out how to be a decent Reaper without attending the Academy), she's just used to being alone. Aurian hasn't had anyone to rely on so far in her existance, so if trouble arises or she's having personal problems, since she's never had friends or family to go to, she just thinks she has to deal with things on her own.

Aurian hasn't had anyone to display it on yet, but she's a caring and protective person. A mother-hen in training, she's more like a 'big sister to everyone' at this point (or at least to those she considers 'hers'). A bit too interested and sometimes censoring of what others are up to, she wants to help but can't help slipping into a scolding adult's frame of mind half the time instead of acting as a friend should. Maybe practice as a friend, instead of a big sister, will help? On the plus side, if you ever want hugs, cookies, and all those motherly things, Aurian's your girl.

Since her natural ability as a Shadow Being gives her an affinity for stealth, it wouldn't be unusual for her to slink around after her friends to see if they're following her advice. For those she's already close to, she'll give advice or admonish them first, then slink in the shadows and try to gently redirect them if it looked like they weren't obeying. If she doesn't know someone all that well yet, but has an opinion on what they should or shouldn't be doing, she'll stick to the shadows and peripherals for them. The ones she's close to have the dubious honor of getting her full family mode, complete with 'I know better than you' attitude. Of course her advice will no doubt be rejected often - a plotie but firm refusual would have her mostly accepting it, but getting cookies and hot drinks ready for when things go wrong (since she says they will and of course she must know best ;P ). A rude and snapping reply might spark a fight, and would likely result in Aurian trailing after them in shadow form for a while, ready to interfere if needed.

Easy-going most of the time, the one thing Aurian gets deadly serious over is her role as a Reaper. Don't interfere with her progress towards this. Hugs and cookie times are after she's finished her work, not during. Certainly don't expect her to take it well if you interrupt her classes or destroy/lose/mess up her homework. She's got an icy-cold temper when she enters 'Reaper mode' and, sure, she'd feel terrible about hurting you in any way (physically or emotionally) after calming down, but when she's in business mode it's all business, no big sister.

Picking on her 'siblings' would definitely get you in her bad books. For those she does regard as her makeshift family, too much taking and not enough giving would get her irritated (like any mom, she knows if you're just showing up for free food and allowance, and not actually feeling the love). But in the latter case, she'll blow up at them and then forgive them, since there are already close feelings involved. Thankfully she doesn't hold grudges (unless someone hurts her 'family'), so she's quick to forgive and forget. (Well, mostly forget. She might bring up in a later argument that you didn't listen to her last time and look at the trouble it landed you in!)

Due to her 'sudden appearance' of a birth and lack of any teachers until now, Aurian makes a hobby out of collecting information in the hopes of not appearing as clueless as she actually is about the world. So she takes to skulking in the shadows, collecting gossip and information about others. Her hobbies include some 'mom'-like things, like cooking, collecting comfort drinks likes teas and hot chocolate. She's very open to new experiences - she'd happily tag along to see other peoples' hobbies and find out if she'd enjoy them.

Why are they enrolled in Amityville Academy? Aurian wasn't raised or born, just.. appeared... as a Reaper. As such, she's lacking a lot of knowledge about very basic Reaper things. Attempts to fumble her way through haven't been entirely successful, so as strange as it seems to her, it's off to school to learn to be a proper Reaper.

FEAR: Shadow Snare
Aurian can manipulate her shadow like a second entity. It stays connected to her feet, but can stretch out as long as it retains the same overall mass (ie. to become very long, it must become very thin and even then there is a limit on how far it could reach). Her shadow can then move into the third dimension, shadowy arms reaching up out of it to grab, hit, scratch, etc. at her opponent. While there are two arms, they can only perform one function at the same time - one cannot hold an opponent in place while the other attacks, all must hold or all must punch/scratch/claw.

Shadow Snare can last for a maximum of two "turns". For example, Aurian's first turn is used to grab the opponent, then the opponent takes their turn, and the arms can claw/scratch on Aurian's second turn, and then her FEAR attack is over. If the opponent evades the grab entirely, the FEAR attack is also over. Alternatively, Aurian can have the arms attack first, then grab (and attack physically with her scythe), or just attack twice. A miss on the first "turn" always results in the end of the FEAR attack. An escape during the opponent's turn still gives Aurian her second turn, but it will be 50% less effective than if the opponent was still immobilised.

Natural Ability: Shadow Form
As a Shadow Being, Aurian can take shadow form. This turns her into a two-dimensional shadow. The shadow's movement is very quick and disjointed, or "jiggly", in the sense that they first may move slowly like a fluid, then rapidly "hop" to another part of a witness' surroundings. It is natural instinct in shadow form to avoid direct gaze, so the shadow "hops" to try and remain on the edge of peoples' vision. Shadow Beings can hide in other shadows while in this form, including moving 'into' walls or objects in shadow.

Physical Description:
Eye Colour: Bright red, with a slight glow. The darker her surroundings, the more her eyes glow. In pure darkness, all you would see is two glowing red eyes.
Hair Colour/Style: The deepest blue-green, almost black but with hints of oceanic blues and greens. Aurian's hair is long, reaching her waist, and she wears two small buns on either side of her head ( img ref for hair buns and colour - bangs and hairpins incorrect). She likes to add accessories behind the buns, her favourites are long Asian-style hairpins made of very thin bones.
Skin Colour: Light caucasian. Not vampire-pale, but she hasn't seen all that much sun either.
Clothing Style/Colours: Black and jade colour scheme. Outfit img ref.
Extra: Her Reaper weapon is a double-ended scythe.

First off; ffff Shadow People! <3 They give me the creeps oh god. >
I like the idea of having the Work-Focused one with a pretty soft underbelly! Reminds me of a Cut-Throat Business woman that goes home to dote on her children after work, it's a fun little image! I also really like how you left it wide open; she just appeared, has a base skill set, and can learn everything else on top of it. It would be a lot of fun watching the way she grows as a character!

I think the only thing that really stands out to me, is that you mentioned she isn't really one to ask for help for her problems. I'm just curious if her not asking for help is related to her own social problems, or if it would extend into her work ethic as well? If it did extend into her work ethic, how hard was it on her to take the hit to her pride to ask for help from the school? If it was hard, is that why she's so focused on it? To kind of redeem herself?

Shadow People are notorious for only really appearing in peripheral vision, and I know you used this more or less as her Natural Ability, but I have to wonder if she'd resort to using it if she ever got close enough to someone to Mother Hen over them. I know you said she'd be interested in what they were up to to the point of censoring them, but do you think would she go and ask them directly, or would she follow them herself, sticking to their peripheral vision? Basically, is she the outright 'no you do this' Mother Hen, or the stick-to-the-shadows-but-gently-redirect-them Mother Hen? I understand that she hasn't had the opportunity yet, I'm just curious. >u
For her FEAR; It certainly sounds like a Shadow Person thing to me (ughshadowpeoplewhysocreepy), but I think for a first year you might need to look at how many arms are there, and how many turns she can keep the arms attacking or grappling. Someone said it was best to think of it like an attack on a pokemon card; (Attack) uses (# of arms here) to (scratch, punch, etc) opponent for (#) turns? I could be wrong, but I'm pretty sure that's the best way to think about it for now.

(Also really sorry if this doesn't make sense!)

No, that's great, makes perfect sense!

For the FEAR, I'm thinking it lasts a max of two turns and she gets one action per turn. If the first action is 'grab', then next turn (if the opponent hasn't broken free), she can then 'claw' them. But then that's all her FEAR attacks used up for that battle. If she 'grabs' and they break free, that's too bad and she's out of FEAR attacks without anything happening. Probably only two 'arms' at this stage. I'll update that into the FEAR section and see what others think.

Personality wise, that's some great things for me to think about. It was definitely a blow to her pride to apply/enter the school. But she'd tried going it alone ever since she appeared and it wasn't working out, so professionalism won out there. It's not so much pride for her (at the moment) as it is being used to being alone. She hasn't had anyone tor ely on so far in her existance, so if trouble arises or she's having personal problems, she's never had friends or family to go to, she just thinks she has to deal with things on her own.

When she's in her 'professional Reaper mode', I imagine she's going to develop some pride there and think she _should_ do her work alone (unless the task specifies otherwise).

Hopefully she'll learn better in both respects, but it will be her instinct to go it alone in trouble/work matters, even though in normal times she's all for company and hugs and helping others.

In regards to the 'stay on the peripheral' thing, I imagine it would give her a natural affinity for stealth. So I can totally believe she'd slink around after her friends to see if they're following the advice she's already given them or not. So a bit of both, there? For those she's already close to, she'd certainly TRY the advice/censoring first, then slink in the shadows and redirect if it looked like they weren't obeying. If she doesn't know someone all that well yet, but has an opinion on what they should or shouldn't be doing, she'll stick to the shadows and peripherals for them. The ones she's close to are lucky enough to get a full family mode, complete with 'I know better than you' attitude.

Some things about the personality (apart from how much I love that kind of archetype) :
1. Apart from interrupting her reaper-mode, is there anything else that would really tick her off? How is her level of patience? Saintly? Long-suffering? Hairpin-trigger?
2. What sort of hobbies does she have?
3. How does she react if someone were to turn her down when she's in mother/big-sister mode? And would it vary based on the way they turned her down (polite but firm, or snapping and rude)?

Those are really great questions, thank you Huni! Definitely things I need to address.

1. Picking on her 'siblings' would definitely get you in her bad books. For those she does regard as her makeshift family, too much taking and not enough giving would get her irritated (like any mom, she knows if you're just showing up for free food and allowance, and not actually feeling the love). But in the latter case, she's likely to blow up at them and then forgive them, since there are already close feelings involved.

Her patience varies. She's a bit of a mood ring, reflecting the patience of those around her. If others are calm, she can usually stay calm. If someone else flies off the handle, she'll follow. Thankfully she doesn't hold grudges (unless someone hurts her 'family'), so she's quick to forgive and forget. (Well, mostly forget. She might bring up in a later argument that you didn't listen to her last time and look at the trouble it landed you in!)

2. Hobbies are something I need to think over. Due to her 'sudden appearance' of a birth and lack of any teachers until now, she'd make a hobby out of collecting information in the hopes of not appearing as clueless as she actually is about the world. So skulking in the shadows, collecting gossip and information about others. Definitely also some 'mom'-like things, like cooking, collecting comfort drinks likes teas and hot chocolate. She's very open to new experiences - she'd happily tag along to see other peoples' hobbies and find out if she'd enjoy them.

3. It would definitely vary based on how they turn her down. Polite but firm would have her mostly accepting it, but getting cookies and hot drinks ready for when things go wrong (since she says they will and of course she must know best ;P ). Rude and snapping might spark a fight, and would likely result in Aurian trailing after them in shadow form for a while, ready to interfere if needed.

"Oh goodie, just what we need," The secretary's tone pretty much oozed sarcasm, which just meant it was another ordinary school day, "A Hellma clone."

Furtively, he looked left and right, before ripping Aurian's application form in half, and then in fourths, happily discarding it into the shredder, just to make sure the pieces of paper didn't find and reattach themselves.

Unbeknownst to Arel, the shredder was actually a time traveling shredder which had swapped the shredded version of the form with a perfectly in tact one, one that the cleaning gnome found later, and placed back into its proper place, the acceptance folder. Too bad the secretary never found out, he could have made millions of silver with a time traveling shredder.
