This is my definition of swearing: "To use meaningless words in order to cause offense"
I know so-called 'curse words' have meanings.
But these meanings aren't really offensive, when you take a closer look.
wink For example, the middle-finger curse originates from when soldiers used bows and arrows and they used this gesture to let the enemy know they were still capable of using one.
Now.... how many people do you think even
know how to use a bow and arrow, who have given you that gesture, eh?
rolleyes I understand how religious cursing can be offensive to religious people, but secular cursing is just pointless.
stare I believe people should only be offended by personal insults. If someone were to call me a c***, I would be like "Yeah, whatever. I have NO IDEA what the heck a c*** is, so why should I be offended?
