Beneath the rim of a royal blue pirate hat, bright red eyes gleamed like the rubies that so easily caught Gabriel's attention. A jade-scaled tail flicked steadily to either side behind the boy, a certain happiness in the gentle movement. Similarly-tipped fingers twitched in his pocket, a soft, almost-metallic noise sounding from beneath the cloth. Between those smoothly shifting fingers were gems; jewels of each and every colour and cut, jewels that he well-knew had no true value. But such was the purpose of them. With these very useless and cheap jewels that he had stolen from a woman at the flea market, he would have the ability to distract a jeweler long enough to thieve something, something that he had had his eye on for a long, long time before now.

For, to him, Ilyrosa was the most beautiful and desirable woman that the young pride spawn had ever met. That wasn’t to say that he honestly knew what basis mates were picked from, and why they should be so desirable, but he was unable to help himself. To this female, he would gladly, selflessly, offer the world without a second thought for any other people who may suffer as a result of this sacrifice.

For her, there was a jewel that he believed was perfect for her. Within its clear-cut depths, it held one of the most beautiful sights to mankind: The Aurora Borealis. Now, allow it to be cleared that Gabriel knew it only as the Northern Lights, and truly knew very little about them. What he knew, however, was that they were a rare thing that happened in the North, and to be able to see them, you were both extremely lucky and would be in complete and total awe. After all, his brother wanted to see them.

Not to mention, someone had managed to catch them within a beautiful, heart-cut diamond. A diamond he needed. A trinket that needed to be around the neck of the most beautiful girl in the world.

With the attention span of a trained hawk, Roman caroused shop after shop with one goal in mind. Under the careful watch of his sister's, he was allowed to look for a present all on his own with his very own allowance. Ten whole dollars! And he knew just how to spend it. Roman had a plan, a perfect plan that needed the perfect piece to top it off. His older sister Tally made all kinds of jewelry, and it wasn't a secret that he wanted something for Kieran to show that he still loved his twin, even if he couldn't stand him.

So, with his hands stuffed in his Capri pockets, the mixed spawn shopped. He didn't talk to anyone and when they were unfortunate enough to approach him, he snapped. Roman was still as temperamental as ever; just more intellectual. And as such he wanted to make his money go far.

And yet, the moment he realized that the weird looking boy with the tail was the same weird looking boy from the flea market, he didn't want to shop anymore. His hands instantly balled into fists and his teeth grated on one another. Who did he think he was? Couldn't he shop anywhere else? And what...."What are you looking at?"

Gabriel wasn't honestly interested in any of the people around him for once, or the stares that he was receiving, the attention that normally fueled his every attempt to be noticed even more. Rather, he was completely enraptured by the jewels that were hiding behind glass in all of the different stores around him. Unable to read, actually finding the place that he remembered was much more difficult than it would be for most people, so the best that he was able to do was look around and around for the beautiful gem that he had seen only a few days earlier.

Of course, that didn't mean that other things weren't allowed to catch his attention. The main thing that did so at this point was a rather familiar form, a boy who looked similar to his brother, although a little more... complete, with wings on his back instead of his head, and skin that was striped from his head to his feet. One of his headwings tipped slowly to the side as he tried to put a name to the face, but was unable to. That was when the other noticed him. Red eyes grew a bit wider, his headwings tipping back in surprise at the immediate hostility put forward by the wrath spawn. Anger was normal for them, that he was well aware of, but his own brother was usually less... immediately furious.

Softly, Gabriel glared back, only enough for it be be defensive. "I'm not lookin' at anything!" he snapped, pouting unhappily, his tail flicking gently behind him. "I could athk you the very thame quethtion!!" he tacked onto the end, knowing that it was the truth considering the fact that the other boy had bothered to notice him as well. It took him a moment to realize, however, that he had reached his destination, the crystal shimmering only a few feet away from him in its glass case, covering the white material beneath it in shafts of blue and green light.

Counting backwards from ten, Roman closed the gap between the two of them. His nostrils flared, wings spreading out defensively around him as his claws tapped on the ground. "I am lookin' at somethin'." He spat aggressively. "Somethin' weird." Openly checking the other boy out, he sneared and turned away to keep from grabbing him by the shirt front.

It didn't take him long to notice the crystal. Beautiful didn't begin to describe it. And yet, it didn't suit Kieran at all. Though, there were alot of promising options close by....

The child turned back around to Gabriel, to the crystal, then back to Gabriel before quirking his mouth up.

Though Gabriel didn't have any kind of wrath on his own side, he did have experience enough to stand his ground against one sharing his brother's blood. His own red eyes narrowed, spiked tail flicking to either side unhappily, talons clawing softly at the ground as his headwings and ears both laid back against his head, both for appearance and for their own protection. After all, they were his main weak point, and he'd become accustomed to hiding them from whatever the enemy was at any given time. May it be pointed out in this situation, however, that Gabriel didn't harbor any anger or true hostility; it was simply his more well-developed defense mechanism. Crying didn't work to get people to have pity on him, now that he'd grown, so the best thing that he could do was look scary and hope that they believed that he was.

So far, it seemed to be working in his favor.

"I am not weird-lookin'..." Gabriel grumbled unhappily as Roman turned himself around. His arms folded over his chest and he gave a firm nod when the wrath child turned away, believing that his show had actually worked instead of even considering the possibility that the other had enough common sense not to start a fight right next to a ton of glass. Of course, Gabriel remained as clever-yet-dimwitted as ever, and his confidence was set on the back-burner when a grin split the nearby spawn's striped face.

"Huh...?" he asked quietly, mostly a thoughtful noise as one of his headwings cocked gently to one side. Finally, his gaze fell to where Roman's had been, and his entire face brightened, tail whipping back and forth like that of an excited puppy. There! Ha-ha, he knew that he would find it!! Good thing that they hadn't sold it since then, or he never would have found the store again...

Contrary to Gabriel's beliefs, crying would have been the one thing to instantly deflate Roman. As it was, the wrath spawn was attuned to his 'enemy' like a caged tiger watching a baby. He remembered back to when he had first seen the weird looking kid, and again, it had been near valuables. It didn't take a genius to start connecting the dots.

And when Gabriel's attention turned to the crystal, he just knew it. A thief! Just like in the stories. A robber, bandit, rogue - whatever. But how to be sure? "Costs lots," he asked casually, a little too casually, with a slight rock to his hips. "But pretty. Gonna buy?"

Gabriel was not one to be very finely attuned to social cues - or any cues, for that matter. It goes without saying that anything Roman was trying to figure out flew over his head like a band of vultures, lurking and waiting for an opportunity to sneak its way into his closed-off mind. It was unlikely that it would find one. The pride spawn's hand dropped suddenly into his pocket, and he moved it between each of the gems, trying to count them before deeming it impossible that way. Then, he took them all, dropping them one-by-one past his thumb, counting them out that way.

There were fourteen. Fourteen small, probably worthless little polished rocks that he would have to convince a master of the trade were worth anything. He would have to act, pretend, lie... he would have to do a lot to get the owner of the shop, as well as anyone else, to look away just long enough for him to take the necklace. He would sneak it oh-so-carefully off of the strange little mold that it hung from and into his pocket, dart outside as fast as he possibly could, and immediately dive into whatever crowd of people first caught his attention, wherever he wouldn't be noticed, or wherever it would be assumed that he couldn't be. He already had places in mind. There was bus stop across the street; if the bus came at the right time, he would be on it in an instant. There was a bar about three, maybe four houses down; he could duck into it silently, slide beneath a table, too young to be able to enter it in the first place. There was a group of--

When the other spoke, the pride spawn winced, headwings twitching and ears turning back against his head in mild irritation at the fact that he'd been interrupted while he ran through his plan in his head. His eyes first turned to Roman before his tanned face followed suit. He frowned softly at the question, tail flicking in displeasure at the invasiveness and almost-friendliness of the question, especially from someone who had greeted him so unhappily. Easily, he turned his attention back to the wares in front of him. "Maybe. Maybe not. What'th it to you?"

Roman crossed his small arms over his chest and stood tall, one hip cocked to the side with his eyebrows quirked, a permanent scowl on his face. "Curious. Want somethin' too." He walked closer to Gabriel and looked into the store, his wings flared out at his sides like an angry peacock.

As a generally curious question, he asked, "How much?" With a claw, he pointed to a necklace. It was simplistic enough, with a silver chain and a blue sapphire amulet.

A part of Gabriel had hoped, briefly, that Roman would just continue into the store and they wouldn’t have to stand near each other any longer, but that seemed impossible when the other male stayed outside, continuing to interact with the little thief. Well… maybe they would be able to work together. Maybe. Honestly, he figured that it wasn’t a very good possibility, though; with how much the striped boy seemed to hate him, it was probably much more likely that Roman would rat on him if he tried to steal the necklace. To himself, he huffed slightly; why did stealing from stores have to be so hard?

Yet the question that fell from the other’s lips definitely caught his attention, and he turned sly red eyes first to Roman, then to the necklace that he seemed interested in. Instinctually, his eyes found the small price tag that was taped onto the edge of it, near the back of the display that it was hung on. Softly, the tip of one of his green fingers tapped the glass as well. “It’th three-hundred-fourteen dollarth. Gon’na get it?” Sure, maybe the question was just a little mocking, but if Roman couldn’t afford it… well, maybe he would be able to help out a bit.

Something about the way Gabriel was looking at him put Roman on edge. He lingered on the others face, slowly turning his head to look at the necklace with Gabriel in the corner of his vision. Then he followed the green finger up to the face accompanied with it.

Roman's mouth dropped open.

"T'ree hun-drud four-teen!" Who did they think he was, a bank?! "No I'm not gon'na get it. I only 'ave ten." And even that wasn't a whole bill! His biggest peace was a five and the vast majority of the money in his pocket was change. The Wrath spawn clenched his fists and looked back into the case. How dare it cost so much. He would have gotten it, too, but nooooooo. Roman growled and kicked the building, then immediately regretted it when his foot throbbed.

Gabriel nodded a couple times. He'd figured that was going to be the reaction; after all, from what he'd noticed about most kids his age was that not being able to afford something always seemed to be a surprise, but they jumped at things in their price range. Gabriel was so used to not being able to legally buy anything that he was never surprised by a prices; they were just numbers in a row, to him they didn't mean a damn thing. And he wouldn't let them influence what he was or was not going to get as a gift for his beautiful Ilyrosa.

"MmKay, tho you can't buy it. Are you thtill gon'na get it?" Gabriel asked suddenly, looking over at the other man again. His headwings flicked softly before turning them back against his head. "Becauthe I could help you if you wanted."

Roman couldn't believe it! The perfect gift was within his sight, and he wasn't going to be able to get it. He didn't want anything else, he wanted that necklace, and now he was beyond pissed because of it. 10, 9, 8, 7, 6, 5...

He closed his eyes and took a deep breath, then exhaled when he opened them. Now what did that kid want..? Roman turned his head with a slightly curious expression. "You mean...just take it? Thats stealing." He already had a rap sheet a mile long with store owners, and he didn't need stealing added onto it. "I knew it. Your a thief."

Gabriel could practically read the irritation on Roman's face. Well, of course he could. After all, he'd have plenty of practice with reading it all over Damien's face almost every time he opened his mouth. Stupid Damien, always being mad at him... That was beside the point, actually. His tail flicked back and forth a little bit, headwings tipping back unhappily at the thought of his brother. Oh, well. Surely Damien would get over it when he matured.

"Big deal. My Daddy'th got no monieth and my brother and I got'ta get our food out'ta the dumpthter every other night," Gabriel half-snapped back, though it was more as a response to the idea of being a thief being such a terrible, immoral thing for him to be. One of his ears twitched softly, and he looked at the necklace that he could only imagine around Ilyrosa's neck. "Bethideth, I have a plan. And I'm not thtealing for mythelf. I only thteal for my brother and my friendth and the girl that I love. At leatht I'm not thelfish about it."

So he wasn't a thief, just a bum? Lissy always got in trouble for feeding the ones she found on the street because they could really hurt her. For that reason, his mother had told him never to go near them. If one talked to him, just politely respond and keep walking. Gabriel didn't look like a threat, but maybe his dad was?

"It's still wrong," Roman pointed out, even as the wheels in his brain were turning. "But if you planned to path them back...then it would jsut be borrowing, and thats not bad." He looked longingly at the pendant. "

"Everything'th wrong to thomebody," was Gabriel's rather illogical reply, sticking out his tongue softly as he stared after the heart-shaped necklace that he absolutely needed for his Ilyrosa. But it was true, regardless; everyone else thought that his daddy shouldn't be able to raise kids, but the kids got food and were better there than an orphanage. So it was all a matter of... perspesive or something like that.

"Sure, I'll pay them back," Gabriel replied idly, not really caring about that fact. If he told Roman that, maybe the boy would believe him and would help him anyway. After all, what he didn't know wouldn't hurt him, right? At least, wouldn't hurt him too much.
