On the purchase and watching of the new Muse Absolution Tour DVD, watching the extra's, i find something that makes me sick to my stomache.
After every live show, or at least this one, Matthew Bellamy throws his guitars in the trash.
I didn't believe it at first, listening to some guy as he rambled on and walked towards the dumpster at the back of the bar Muse had just performed in and watched him pick out a Custom made Manson.
The guitar alone is worth about $3,000. But being played by Matthew Bellamy, that could easily be bumped up.
But seriously though. He just chucks away a guitar of that calibre. Just like that, after every show. I respect the guy enormously, but that really just makes me cringe.
Discuss - Rich guitarists and their throw-away lifestyle.
Mansons, if you want to.
I would post the clip, but I can't find an online source.

i believe it was either a show for the camera or he was getting rid of the Guitar. most likely a show to camera that slightly back-fired.

I don't understand how newly artists (such as the Vines) can break their guitars on stage and think their rock stars. Also with Nirvana. Theres no need to break your pretty shiney guitars. But hey at least they give people jobs by fixing them... confused

After watching it again, it could be that it was for the camera, or just that particular show. But daym.
You can still discuss the wreckings of Guitars by bands. There's something discussable there.
Wish i could find a Manson in the trash.

it's all part of the show and gets the crowd going really. Peter townsend suposedly had an empty stack he can ram his guitar through when touring as part of the Who.

Personally, smashing guitars is a really bad thing to do. First off, if you do it nowadays, it just makes you like a pathetic little poser, and also, most of the guitars that are smashed are really expensive guitars, that someone else could enjoy, but instead they just get destroyed so no one can enjoy them again. That is how I feel about it anyway. sweatdrop

it's a guitar. they'e wasting their money (or they're being sponsered of whatever). it get the crowd buzzing and it works. it does what the band wants to happen.

Genrally, the only people who get away with smashing guitars are famous people, and famous people don't use shitty guitars. They will smash Gibson custom shop guitars without thinking.

All I have to say is, look at Steve Vai. He still has the same two guitars he got from Ibanez, among others. He loves them to death, eventhough I'm sure he could afford to throw several away per show.
