This thread is to house the regression of Equus and Pappila. All Sun Court fey are welcome to participate.

Title: Shattered Bonds and Shadowy Books
Date: 01.19.06
Setting: The Lake outside of Castellum Argentus
Synopsis: The Grimmerie's sundering spell bursts out and touches two of the sun court fey, regressing them.
Participants: Cervus, Equus, Pappila, and any other Sun Court who show up.

Cervus lowered his hood and let the moonlight play upon the pale bone of his antlers. The Lake was calm and still tonight, and he'd invited the members of his court there casually to discuss the things he had learned during his quest for ascension. He wanted a peaceful place to talk to them about the dire unrest of the woods, and he wished to speak of it away from his queen, for fear his grave news might complicate things so near to the birth of their child.

In the distance, a darker black against the starry night sky, the silhouette of Castellum Umbra stood. He flitted a glance around the gathering to those who had come and then settled on the ground, something done with effort due to his altered legs.

Muris scampered about. She had spent the morning attempting to locate one wayward badger (who was more than likely simply sleeping in one of the stalls) and had found herself in the presence of King Cervus upon his invitation to the entirety of the court. Properly abashed, she lowered her head in respect,
"Hello, majesty," she said quietly, peering up. Her eyes fell on the other castle in the distance, and a chill ran down her spine, unbidden.

Ursa slid over to sit near Muris, bowing her head to Cervus as she did so. "Your magesty..." Ursa murmured, frowning briefly at the visible scars from his ordeal. She could only imagine the mental scars that accompanied them. Glancing up, she noticed Muris looking off across the lake at Castellum Umbra and her hand went reflexivly to the pendant hanging among her braclets, fingering the words written on its surface. She made a mental note to speak to Muris and make sure that she had healed properly from her terrible ordeal in the deapths of that terrible black shadow.

Another figure made her way slowly through the crisp moonlit night towards the small group, warmed and protected from the night in her cloak.

She sat down beside the other two women after curtsying briefly to her King and murmuring, "Your Magasty." In the middle of the night, with the Moon Court's dwellings in plain view... it wasn't very wise to make it obvious who was royalty here.

Filix's eyes drifted to Muris, and from Muris to the castle. In the night, it looked worse. Like a dark gaping hole, ready to swallow up everything that came close to it. She looked away quickly. It wasn't wise to stare at that thing for too long.

((Consider everyone else to be here, and when they are able, they can pose))

Ceruvs inclined his head to each fey in turn. "I am glad you were all able to come. As you know, I was absent for 2 seasons in the quest to merge with my totem. Although successful, I bring back with me grave news. Along my travels I was attacked, often and visciously, but woodland beast that were no longer simple animals, but terrible things infected with some sort of evil magic, leaving them in a state of rage and bloodthirst." He grimaced and looked to the faces of his people to let them soak in the information.

Equus had taken up a spot toward the back of the relatively small party, close enough to defend his liege should the situation call for it, but not near enough to the others that it would force well-meant chatter from their lips. He did not want to admit it, but part of his reasoning was caused by seeing Filix counted amongst the listeners; he wanted her hopeful gaze and kind words least of all.

He crossed his arms over his broad chest, ears attentive on his monarch's words while his eyes shifted along the shimmering lake to take in the dark castle so like and yet so unlike their own. He repressed a shudder at the sight, but was distracted enough to turn startled iron grey eyes back toward the King when Cervus spoke of evil magic and its affect on the animals that populated the wooded wilderness.

The squire's mouth drew into a thin line, and he mentally berated himself for not accompanying and protecting his king. Equus knew full well that his presence would not have been allowed during a quest for Ascension, but the poisonous thought grew all the same.

He waited for the Ascended ruler to go on, squashing the impulse to take the initiative and immediately go out into the woods to find the source of such turmoil. The guard knew that he would like fare badly against an unknown power, no matter how enthusiastic his approach.

Cervus fingered the carved bone amulet at his throat as he spoke. "I have reason to believe I may have inadvertantly led them back towards Argentus. We will need to be on our deepest guard, vigilant, and cautious. No one is to leave the castle alone, and no groups should leave unarmed. Please ride your mounts when you can, and fly as little as possible. There are flying things as well, beasts of legend, mingled bodies of different animals that create abominations."

His gaze flickered back towards Umbra and he squinted. Was that some sort of faint violet light he could see high in one of the towers?

Ursa shifted uncomfortably where she was sitting, her face grim. The more dangerous it was, the more she would be called upon for her services. She just hoped that no one would get hurt beyond her ability to heal. This coming on top of the returns of the Moon Court's manipulations and plots...it was a recipie for disaster. Many of the ones that would be best at defending them were not even fully grown. Equus and Pappila, the guard and mage of the court, respecively, were only teens...

Ursa shuddered as an inexplicable chill ran down her back.

Muris shuddered visibly. The idea of the creatures she loved being so perverted...bloodthirsty beasts? She didn't want to even think about it.

She had pulled her gaze away from the castle long enough to watch the King as he spoke, but just as his gaze went to it, so did hers.

She quickly pulled it back. Violet light or not, it was the last thing she wanted to look at. Subconsciously, she scooted closer to Ursa. It wasn't that she thought Ursa could protect her so much as that she needed to be closer to -someone-.

"Majesty? What do you plan to do about these beasts?"

Cervus frowned, and turned his attention back to his people at Muris' address. "Firstly, we need to look into the reasons for it. I will task Ardea and Aesculus with beginning some research on whether or not this has happened prior. Equus, I will need to look into reinforcing the castle and it's grounds against attack. Ursa and Pappila, I will need you to research possible cures for whatever disease ails these beasts. Filix and Rosa, I will need you to work on measuring our supplies and stores, and making lists of what we need to gather in the case of a siege. Muris and Lutra, I'll need you to carefully gather said items, from Gaia if need be, as it may be safer. Alces I have a special duty for I will inform him of later.

Despite the grave news, Aes's face was calm and stoic. He nodded at Cervus's words, hoping that Ardea and he would get along better than he got along with Rosa. And that Rosa would not quarrel with her sister once she learned of her engagement. Most of all, however, he was concerned about the safety of those present. Not all of them were adults yet, and few were reall prepared for any sort of battle or violent engagement with a beast. Since he was not skilled with a sword, Aesculus made a mental note that he would practice with his bow more often.

He had kept himself holed up far too long, as Filix had insinuated to him earlier. Perhaps if he had not been so absorbed in trivial strategy games and tomes from Gaia on counseling he would have been more prepared, or would have noticed the beasts for himself.

"As you wish, my liege." His eyes drifted over to Filix's for a moment, resting on hers before looking back to Cervus. She was a brave woman, and he hoped that she wouldn't overestimate her fighting ability and travel alone.

Ursa's expression grew grim as Cervus detailed their tasks. Her task would quite possibly be the worst of all. It would not be enough simply to look in the library for the resources to cure this ailment: if the discription was accurate in any way, it was far too widespread for either Pappila or herself to cure it with a spell, or any combination thereof. It was the source that would have to be countered, much like treating a disease rather than the symptoms.

The other thing that came to mind was the need to obtain some sort of representitive case, somthing that she looked upon with trepidation. If these things were dangerous enough to injure the king...neverthless, it was her duty.

"As you wish, Your magesty," she echoed Aesculus.

Filix listened quietly, eyes resting on the King or on the dark ground beneath her. She didn't trust herself to look at Equus, or at Aesculus. Filix had long ago learned to contain her emotion. But the man and the teenager caused conflicting emotions that twisted Filix's heart painfully.

She didn't need to distract herself long, Cervus's news startled and surprised her. Even the prospect of bearing Rosa's narcissistic ways seemed necessary... usually Filix, as much as she loved her sister in small doses, could find that attiude unbearable if it went on too long. Filix in these circumstances would spend every hour of a day with Rosa, if it were to protect the court and all she loved in it.

Her eyes flickered up to Aesculus, meeting his briefly. The news, just for the briefest of moments, sunk to the back of her mind as the sight of him reminded Filix of the hidden ring hanging around her neck.

Then she looked away towards the King's expression to force herself back to reality. Filix's eyes dulled again. This would mean she'd no longer be able to walk in the forest alone, something she used to love.

Ardea sat crosslegged on the grass, as close to his king as he could manage to be without being in the way. As King Cervus spoke, the scribe's pen scratched away on the paper spread across his lap.

At the order that no one was to leave the castle alone, the Heron twitched slightly, just enough to leave a small blot of ink on the page he was writing. Frowning a little, he wiped it away as best he could with his thumb, and continued to try to focus on the monarch's words.

So he was to research the beasts of the forest for King Cervus as well. Perhaps venturing out to speak with Feles could be considered part of that research. And as for the other Sun Court fey he was to work with on this project.... Ardea glanced over at Aesculus. He did not believe he had met him before. With any luck, this Aesculus would be sufficiently helpful, and not get in his way too much.

Muris nodded thoughtfully to this. She would only have to gather supplies. That, at least, she could easily manage.

Still, it was important, she felt, to note that any trips like the one she had made just a few days ago could be impossibly more dangerous than she had thought at the time.

Perhaps that was why the bear trap had been there in the first place.

"Your majesty, I will do as you command."
