It wasn't unusual to find the teal haired teenager walking up to the mew filled with multiple falcons. They were all red-necked falcons bred and raised by the Tambe family, mostly Baladeva Tambe. Kiran only trained one falcon, which he had named Aditi when he received her for his eleventh birthday. He did help his father with raising the rest of their falcons, still learning the ins and outs of falconry.
Kiran stepped into the mew and looked about the area. His father had visited the mew earlier in the day to take one of the falcons out for training. Kiran was relieved when he saw which of them was missing. Zibaniz hated him for reasons Kiran could never figure out. He never did anything to the falcon to make it hate him. But anytime he went Zibaniz, the falcon tried to peck off his arm. Kiran often avoided Zibaniz, but that proved difficult when he was forced to clean out the mew as a punishment.
Thanking his good fortune, Kiran pulled on his leather glove as he walked over to the perch where Aditi was tethered. After he undid the tether keeping her tied to the perch, Aditi hopped onto the arm he held out for her. He walked back to the entrance of the mew and stepped outside. Then he closed and locked the door. Aditi spread her wings, flapping them a few time in her eagerness to soar high in the sky. But she folded her wings back in when Kiran kept a tight hold on her tethers, not allowing her to take flight just yet.
"Shh," he said gently as he stroked the back of her neck with his free hand. "That's a good girl. I know. You really want to fly, but not just yet. Okay?" Aditi tried to n** playfully at his hand.

Swinging the incense pendulum was boring work. Today had been considered a holy day from the monks of the temple so Xiu had been wrangled into going along with them. He’d been standing at the back of the procession, pretending to mouth chants as he swung the incense burner to spread good fortune into the air. It was after the fourth shrine that Xiu made his escape.
Very cautiously, he slowed his pace, getting further and further behind the process until he was finally darting down a side street and out of sight. With a jaunty grin, Xiu blew out in the flame flickering within the confines of the burner and slung the thing over his shoulder. He’d be killed it he lost the thing.
Pleased with his ninja like escape, Xiu hurried on down the narrow street, eager to find a food stall or something. At least, he was hungry until he nearly collided with some kid with a musty bird on his wrist.
“Gah!” Xiu shrieked in surprise, the burner dropping from his hand and clattering to the ground. Panting from the near heart attack, he squinted at the falcon, never having seen something like that so close. He didn’t bother apologizing just yet, still trying to get his breath back.

Kiran was on his was back to his house when another Lunarian came darting at him out of nowhere. He stumbled back a step, afraid the other would run right into him. Somehow, they managed to avoid a collision. Kiran had nearly loosed his hold on her tethers but managed to tighten his hold again before she could take flight. He didn't really have reason to worry about her flying off since he often let her soar about freely. But it would have been a pain to get her back after being startled.
Aditi squawked, flapping her wings with fright at the suddenness of their encounter. He made shushing sounds as he stroked the back of his fingers down her neck and back to soothe her. She calmed down after a few moments and settled comfortably back on his arm.
Once he had calmed Aditi, Kiran turned his attention back to the Lunarian. "Are you okay?" he asked, though it didn't look like the other was injured at all.

Xiu blinked and then wrinkled his nose as he bent to pick up the burner. “Yeah, I’m fine.” He replied churlishly, wincing as he realized the bronze burner had been dented. “You almost ran into me!” The student added angrily, but only because he was mad at himself for dropping the burner and nearly smacking into some stranger. Of course he knew it wasn’t the other kid’s fault.
Sighing, Xiu scrubbed a hand over his face, his anger dissipated as quickly as it had appeared. “I’m sorry. Is your bird okay?” He finished sincerely, green eyes raking over the falcon and then the bird’s owner. The boy looked rather uncouth truth be told what with him wearing, in Xiu’s opinion, such revealing clothing. Wasn’t it uncomfortable to show so much skin?

Kiran pursed his lips at that response. He hadn't been the one racing about and not paying attention to his surroundings. And he didn't like the blame being thrust upon him when, for once, it wasn't his fault. But then the boy apologized, and Kiran sighed, deciding not make a big fuss about it. "She's fine," he told the boy. "Just a little startled is all."
Kiran looked the other boy over. His clothes looked heavy and uncomfortable and limiting in movement. Kiran preferred clothes that didn't get in his way when doing stuff, like climbing or sneaking someone's money purse from their belt. He glanced back the way the boy had come. Then his gaze drifted back to the boy. "Were you running from someone?" he asked curiously, though it seemed no one was chasing him. But maybe the boy had managed to shake whoever from his trail.

“Well, that’s good.” Xiu heaved a relieved breath, looking at the falcon further. It was a curious looking thing that was for sure. The razor sharp beak and talons were rather scary and Xiu wondered how the boy before him was able to control the creature. If Xiu was the falcon, he’d be pecking people’s eyes out.
“And no one was chasing me.” The youth scoffed, hands on his hips now. “I was trying to get away though. The monks were purifying the shrines around here. I had to help.” He held up the dented incense burner and smiled sheepishly. “I was tired of helping needless to say.” He admitted. “Hey, doesn’t your bird every try to get away?” Xiu finally asked curiously.

Kiran stared at the dented incense burner then lifted his gaze back up to the boy. "Are you a monk too then?" His family had never really been very religious, so he didn't know much about monks. "Purifying shrines, huh? That sounds like it would be pretty boring." If he had to help with that, he probably would have sneaked away too.
"All the time," Kiran said with a chuckle. "But I keep a tight hold on her tether until I'm ready to let her fly for a bit." He tried to take her out for a flight every day, though some days got too busy to let him. Aditi tended to get agitated when left cooped up in the mew for too many days in a row.

“Nope.” Xiu shook his head. “I just help out around the temple. You know, running errands and stuff.” Clearly though, he was more interested in the bird than explaining his delicate social standing among those in the Lotus Temple. It wasn’t that he didn’t enjoy living with Master Ziye, but sometime he did wish for a normal family that didn’t consist of twenty brothers getting drunk on ceremonial wine.
“Are you going to take her out flying now?” Xiu asked eagerly, his face getting a little too close to the falcon in his excitement. “Can I watch?”

"Oh," Kiran said, coming up a bit blank after that response. He had thought maybe the boy was at the very least a monk in training. "Do you live there then? At the temple?" He wondered what kind of life a boy living at a temple led. It didn't sound like much fun if he did a lot of errand running. Kiran didn't really enjoy running errands for his parents.
"That was my plan." Kiran grinned widely. Aditi squawked in the boy's face as she spread her wings. Kiran moved his hand back, afraid she might actually try to snap at the boy's nose. "I guess you can." He wasn't really used to having other people around to watch him. Other than his father, of course.

Xiu startled when the bird squwaked in his face and he jumped back in surprise. "Uh, yeah. I do live at the temple." He replied rather distractedly, eyes fixed on the wicked talons and beak of the bird. Those sharp appendages could definitely take an eye out. He shuddered at the thought.
Thankfully his mood brightened once again at the boy's agreement. "Well, alright then. Sounds fun!" The student grinned, already rearing to go. "I'm Xiu by the way. Shi Xiu. What's your name?"

Kiran tried not to grin when he saw the boy jump back, but the corners of his mouth twitched in an attempt to pull off the expression. It wasn't the first time someone had reacted in that manner when Aditi squawked in the person's face. She didn't much like people sticking their faces too close to hers. Luckily, she hadn't tried to peck at someone's face. Yet. "Oh," he responded a little lamely. He didn't know much about temples and monks. But he didn't think it was common for a family to live at one. He didn't think he had ever heard of women living at a monk's temple. But he never really paid attention to that either.
"Kiran," he answered, letting a smile slip onto his face. "Kiran Tambe." He started walked down the street again, checking over his shoulder to see if Xiu was following along after him. "For now, I was just going to let her fly around for a bit." He hoped this wouldn't be a boring experience for the other.

"It's nice to meet you, Kiran." Xiu smiled, chasing after Kiran before falling in step with the other boy. "I'd like to watch either way if that's okay." It was true. He really was interested in the falcon and was not about to let this golden opportunity to slip away.
"So where do you fly her?" The student asked curiously, blinking at the bird again.

"There's an open field a little down that way," Kiran explained, nodding toward a turn coming up along the street. It wound a bit through a small patch of wooded area before opening up into a fairly large field. It was a good spot to let the falcons spread their wings and fly around for a while, and it was quite close to their mew.
Kiran glanced at Xiu as he turned down the side path leading to the field. "What's it like living at the temple?" He never really had much of an interest in that kind of thing. But maybe actually knowing someone who lived in one would make the topic seem more interesting. Xiu was showing an interesting in his hobby, after all.

"Oh, I see!" Xiu grinned looking to where Kiran had nodded to. It was silly, but he was really excited about seeing the bird fly. He felt a little bit like the village idiot at the moment, but he couldn't care less. He was going to see something cool!
"What's it like?" He echoed. "Mmh...well it's really big, so there's lots of space, but that also means lots of cleaning." Xiu made a face just then. "Um I do have loads of uncles and I know many of the people who come everyday to pray. I really love it actually." He laughed, eyes sparkling as he looked at Kiran. "You should visit some time Kiran!"
