Here are my first pieces of pottery, bisque fired.(as in, they're not glazed, and kinda porous.)

I'm taking a ceramics class this semester, and I think I'm picking this all up pretty quickly.
It's been years, but clay used to be my favorite part of gradeschool art classes. It was pretty uncommon, and we'd have to work with a theme, but my mom still keeps my old pieces around the house.
It's really rewarding stuff. Do any of you guys make pottery?
These are both pinch pots, by the way. We don't work on the wheel until after we finish our assigned pieces... The assignment being pretty open here, It's pretty much anything you can hand build, with the basic techniques of pinching, coiling, and what-have-you..
I do use a banding wheel to check the symmetry, also for painting.

It really is.
The class isn't even terribly expensive, because I'm at community college. I had to buy my own materials, but the instructor buys in bulk, and since we buy through her, it's through the school, and tax free.

Those are pretty good! I took a mechanical arts class and got to dabble in ceramics among other things. It's a lot of fun even if you're not that good at it like me.

Well, they won't be ready till some time next week. I might not have pictures until wednesday.
Noone else in my class has started glazing yet, so we can't load the kiln for it, yet.

With the idea in mind that I would only get better at pottery from this point on, I felt free to play around with some of my first fired pieces. I put them on an empty shelf to take the picture. I like how the inside of this one turned out. I was initially going for the effect of vines draping into a basin of water, but the glaze fired up totally differently this time. It was much darker with more variations.

Those do look cool. I've been taking a pottery class at my local rec center for years and years now. It's awesome because it's free, and we can do whatever we want, use as much clay and glaze as we want, and make whatever we feel like. There's not much teaching, but eh. I've been doing it my whole life.
The only thing, we're not allowed to use the wheels. You have to pay extra for that.

I've been throwing on the wheel since then and I've gotten a lot better at glazes. I combine glazes a lot(Layering), actually, which is a science unto itself.

I know a person who is quite good at mixing glazes. I know a little about it myself, but mostly I use Amaco Lead-free potter's choice glazes. It's a good series for the temperature we fire at. (Cone 5-6) by the by:

You should work on making them more even in their thickness and stuff, and more balanced for the round ones (like the cup), but they look pretty good ^^
I like the bowl better 3nodding
