Honestly I'm not trying to start a bunch of random threads. XD;
I'm just bringing this up because I'm currently at a loss about what I want to do with my life.
How did you guys know what career you wanted?
Or how did you stumble on it?
Good sides? Downsides?
For me, I was going to pursue something in Psychology but after talking it over with someone who majored in it I'm having serious seconds thoughts. I might end up pursuing art instead.
A downside though is that I don't think the community college here offers the classes I need for what I'm thinking about doing (something having to deal with game designing and such perhaps), and I don't want to go out of state or leave my home town for it. I'm hoping there's online classes or something I can take instead. I want to stay here with my family. D:

I -STILL- don't know what i want to do with my life.
I went to university for astro physics.
I DON'T DO THAT NOW.
I don't even wanna be a for real artist it's all bullshit.
I understand you, COMPLETELY, it's very, very hard to "decide your life path"
I think it'll just, happen when it happens, with me, I just, started my own little shop. That's just what I do now. No business degree, no nothing, I just, decided I hated working for other people and I just did it.
It doesn't have be right at the end of highschool when you decide, sometimes you just get this, moment of clarity. It comes when it's ready.

well, i dont have a career yet.
i want to be a writer.
i discovered that because writing and roleplaying is something i enjoy immensely.

I've thought about doing writing off and on but it's something I never really got into, I guess, aside from the RPing. But I only started doing that this summer so.. I don't know. o-o

few people ever know. Or they'll change their mind half way though.
My piece of advice though, don't let things hold you back. If you want to take something, go out, move out of state, go where ever you need to.
Family will love you forever, the good thing about them is that they're always there.

That's true.
Mm yeah but. D: I don't like being on my own. I'm not sure how to put it but it makes me very uncomfortable? ;;; I'm not sure. I just like being around my family, even if we're not doing anything and are all in separate rooms. XD It's just...how we are I guess since we all tend to do it.
Might be a comfort zone thing. I'm not sure.

after high school, i took a year off to do nothing. I went to university after for astrophysics. That was okay but, it's not like there's a booming desire for french astrophysicists.
then i like, just, worked retail for like, 3 years.
And then i just decided - ******** YOU BOSS- and i bought a little stall in a strip mall area downtown, decided what i wanted to sell (gifts and embroidery and such) and I just, started calling suppliers for items I thought would sell well.
Gettign started was REALLY scary, cause it costs a bit up front, but I figured out what would do well and what wouldn't pretty quick and, that's just, what I do now.
It's pretty boring, but I'm my own boss so i can sit down and be on the computer all day at work if I wanted too XD

It does sound nice though. XD Especially being your own boss and having your own place. That and shops like that tend to have a calming atmosphere, which is nice.

Just a word of advice from someone who's been there:
art design schools and careers are usually like, REALLY competitive. Not trying to deter you or anything, but they are generally pretty hostile and competitive, so keep that in mind if that's not your thing XD

Maybe it's because there is so much competition. I doubt everyone can go where they want to so they fight for it like rabid dogs over a piece of meat.

My career choice just...came to me. For a while I wanted to be a hairdresser but after taking it for three years in high school [literally all I had left to do was take the state boards and I'd be good to go] I realized I didn't really have and passion for it. So after much thought and experimentation I decided to be a mortician, and strangely enough my fiance jumped on the bandwagon so now it all just worked out so well.
I think I've gone through so many different careers that I wanted to do but just said ******** it somewhere along the way. xD

I never really knew specifically what I really wanted to do but I was always drawing and have a pretty darn good knack for computers. And somewhere along the way it just sort of merged with my love for gaming and I decided I wanted to be a Digital Media Animation major xD!
A scary choice because I know I'm not the most skilled in the world and I always heard about artists struggling but really I'm to the point where I can't picture myself anywhere else. I've made quite a few friends in the digital media department at my school (including my advisers boss >.> fk her hard...hate my adviser) My roommates boyfriend just graduated with a degree in Digital Media actually lol. Apparently most people that graduate from my college's digital media department go on to work for Pixar. Last year I even got to meet a group of people that work there (they came to visit my teacher) They say the pay is a lot better than I thought it was and they were able to get jobs soon after college. So seems like I'm set on my career path now and all I have to do is get that shiny degree *-*
