. . .About Jacques. . .Personality: Jacques is a quiet child who likes to keep to himself. He's pretty layed back, and enjoys lounging around watching the goings-on around him to actually interacting with others, and would rather spend his time frolicing with a dog or some wild thing than playing with other children. When he does interact with others, he's usually the quiet one...however, he's not really shy, he just doesn't like to talk, I guess, and when he does, it's usually just in short interjections. While Jacques may be a bit lacking in the matter of conversation, I bet he could beat any other kid in a staring contest any day! All in all, he's a nice boy though, and he'd probably make alot of friend's if he'd talk more.
Likes: Playing with animals, nature. climbing trees, high places.

A smallish room. It's walls are hung with various tapestries and portraits, and the floors covered in a mottley assortment of patterned rugs. . .it would probably be best if you paid more attention to the walls than to the floor...>.>' . . .Portraits. . . -under construction-

Quote: Ho-boy...Nyao couldn't remember the last time she'd felt so stressed, but it wasn't a bad sort of stress. Rather, it was a hodge-podge of feelings, mainly excitement and anxiety. She never thought she'd end up taking in a kid, but here she was, waiting for her new charge to arrive. The first days after learning she had aquired custody of the child, she had taken to tidying up the "castle" (it was, in actuality, more of a rustic lodge nestled in the woods at the foot of a minor mountain range), and during the nights, she would toss and turn, restless and unable to fall asleep easily. Thus it was that when the boy did arrive, Nyao wasn't in the finest form to greet him, being exhausted from an accumulated lack of sleep. The party approached the castle, cutting through the early morning mist. A young boy riding a small, shaggy pony was sandwiched between two older men, looking surprisingly calm for one his age, given the circumstances. This boy was Jacques, and he was on his way to his new home and guardian. Jacques took in his surroundings, pausing once or twice to readjust his errant headband, which had begun to slide down over his eyes. Trees. Lots of trees. He liked trees...liked to climb them, hide behind them, or just plain relax underneath them. Jacques nodded subconciously, and his two guardians eyed the boy, wondering exactly what might be going through his head, for one never quite knew, with Jacques. The small group traveled on in silence, until, finally, the stone face of the castle peek out from amonst the trees. Jacques had arrived at the place he would now call home. After a few long nights of little sleep, Nyao felt she was able to finally doze off, and was in the process of doing so when, all of a sudden, loud knocking was heard at the heavy wooden door of the castle. Still in a half-asleep state, she rolled over, pulling the covers over her head to dull out the obtrusive sound. Yet, no more than a minute later, there the dratted noise was again, and even more annoyingly persistent this time. A now irate Nyao threw the covers off, forcing herself out of her nice comfy bed. Throwing on her robe and grumping and groaning all the way, she stalks down the hall, down the stairs, and down yet another hall, glaring at the door as it came into view, as if it was making all of that god awful noise of it's own accord. Yet another knock, and a snippy response from the lady on the other side "Yes, yes, I'm coming. Don't bash my door in, for crying out loud!". The click of a couple locks and the old wooden door opened, creaking, to the morning's guests. It would be a lie to say she was completely prepared for what she would find when she opened the door...maybe she was still in a bit of denial that she would be playing surrogate mother to a child she had never seen and knew next to nothing about. She eyed the boy, who seemed to be oblivious of the fact that the door had opened to reveal the one that would be his new mother. The boy was too busy looking around the place, calm as can be. Well, at least one of us isn't completely stressed out, she thought to herself. In fact, she didn't think it was possible for anyone to be anymore nonchalant than this child was acting now. Clearing her throat and drawing her winblown robe tighter around herself, she knelt down in front of the boy. "And you must be Jacques." she stated, a matronly expression on her tired face "Welcome to my home, which will also be your home starting today. I hope you'll like it here. There's no lack of things for a young boy to do here, and if you should get bored, there's a village nearby, though I won't have you wandering off there alone..." . . .was the boy even listening to her? His expression hadn't changed once since the moment she first layed eyes on him, and it was slightly unnerving not even having the slightest hint of what the child was thinking...he could dislike her for all anyone knew, but that was probably just her usual lack of self-confidence speaking. After giving the boy a good once over, she stood once more. "I'm sorry, you must be a bit chilled. Won't you come in and have a nice cup of hot chocolate?" she offered to the men who had accompanied her new charge, but they politely declined, saying that they had business to attnd to in their own village and it would be best if they hurried back. Ah well, maybe it was for the best that they couldn't stay, since it would leave her free to pay more attention to Jacques during his first day settling into his new home. While the few possesions Jacques had brought along with him were unloaded, he took the opportunity to wander off and explore the areas closest to the castle. He could hear the lady calling for him, and then the ones who had accompanied him on the way here explaining to her that "This is normal behavior for the boy." and assuring her that he wouldn't go far. This was his home now, right? As such, he felt it was only normal to wish to explore the vicinity within the walls of the castle, at least. He knew better than to press his luck though, so he returned to the entrance of the castle in short order. There would be plenty of time to look around later, and though he would have much prefered to remain outdoors, he didn't figure it would be a good thing to get on his new guardian's bad side in such a short period after arriving at his new home. The men who had come with him said their farewells to the lady. Jacques simply waved a couple times as they left, and before they had disappeared down the road, he was ushered into the castle. Thus was Jacques' arrival at Yamaban Castle. The remainder of the day consisted mainly of being led around the castle and being shown which rooms were where. Jacques had to admit, this wasn't what he had pictured when he was told that he would be living in a castle. He had automatically assumed that it would be like the castles people wrote about in stories, a bustling place filled with activity at every hour of the day, but he was GLAD it wasn't like that. It was...cozy, and there were lots of places where he could disappear to, inside and out, because he was a kid that enjoyed solitude. All in all, the arrival of Jacques at Yamaban was wholly uneventful. If anyone was stressed, it was Nyao herself. However, a bit of her anxiety was alleviated as she showed Jacques around, and that night for supper, a 'feast" was prepared. Nyao and Jacques dined together in the main dining room. She had tried to strike up a conversation with the boy, but gave up after a series of questions with two or three word answers from him, and the occasional nod and "Mmmhmm...". The rest of the meal was taken in silence, as she didn't want to seem pushy to the boy by trying to make him speak more than he was inclined to, and afterwards they said their goodnights to each other, and both the lady and the quiet boy who was to live there as her adopted son retreated to their rooms to (hopefully) have a restful sleep. ((OMG...did all of that come out of me? >.>'. Hopefully it's ok, and nunsucky in the eyes of the people that might read this...>.>))
